Vikings Begin Arriving At Ford Field

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 13, 2010 – 3:37 pm

The first set of buses have dropped Vikings players, coaches and personnel off at Ford Field in downtown Detroit for tonight’s Vikings-Giants game. There is Vikings script in both endzones, a Norseman at midfield, Vikings graphics on the big boards and a whole bunch of Lions personnel/staff helping all of us out.

A big thanks to the Lions operations, public relations, security and many other departments for their help in hosting this game tonight under rare circumstances.

Although the last 34 hours have been unusual to say the least, the next 5 or 6 hours should feel somewhat normal. We’ll go through our normal pre-game routine here on vikings.com, coaches and players will do the same and soon enough we’ll be kicking off tonight’s game. At the end of the game, though, it’ll be back to unfamiliarity and weirdness.

On top of all this, the big question will be about QB Brett Favre’s status. Will his consecutive games streak end tonight? Or will he be able to go thanks to the extra day caused by the postponement of this game? All of that is not even to mention the fact that this is a huge game for the NY Giants as they battle to remain in-step with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East race.

It will be a wild ride in Motown and it all starts now. Stay tuned to vikings.com through it all because we’ll have the most comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of pregame developments, in-game action and post-game recap. We’ll be back a bit later with more…

Vikings-Giants Game Moved To Monday In Detroit

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 11, 2010 – 9:41 pm

The NFL has announced that the Giants-Vikings game will take place from Ford Field in Detroit on Monday at 6:20 p.m. CST due to the Metrodome / Mall of America Field’s roof collapsing early on Sunday morning.  More details will be posted soon…

PREVIOUS UPDATES:

Statement from Greg Aiello, NFL Senior Vice President of Public Relations:

We were notified this morning by the Metrodome / Mall of America Field authorities that the dome will not be available for the Giants-Vikings game on Monday or Tuesday. We are currently exploring alternatives to play the game Monday night at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium or another domed NFL stadium. We will continue to provide information as it becomes available.

Stay with vikings.com for more info as it becomes available.

Update: Here is another statement from Aiello:

The Vikings and University of Minnesota have worked cooperatively and diligently on the re-location of the Giants-Vikings game. The university, however, has informed the Vikings that unfortuately its stadium was shut down for winter and would take several days to prepare for an NFL game. We are continuing to explore options at other NFL domed stadiums to play the game Monday night.
