What 2 Watch 4

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 20, 2009 – 7:28 am

Here are a few storylines to watch today during the Vikings-Lions game…

– With the start, QB Brett Favre will break the all-time record for the most consecutive starts in NFL history, which Favre currently shares with Jim Marshall at 270.

– With 1 rushing TD, RB Adrian Peterson will move into an 8th place tie for most career rushing TDs as a Viking. Peterson currently ranks 9th with 25 and Leroy Hoard ranks 8th with 26. If Peterson manages to score 3 TDs against as he did last week, he will move into a 7th place tie with Tommy Mason.

– If the Vikings don’t allow a Lions running back to reach 100 rushing yards, it will be the 25th consecutive game the Vikings haven’t given up 100 yards rushing to an individual. The last player to rush for 100 yards against the Vikings was Packers RB Ryan Grant on 11/11/07 (102 yards).

– With 3 points, K Ryan Longwell will move into the top 20 all-time for points scored. He currently has 1,380 career points.

– If a Vikings RB reaches 100 yards rushing, it will mark the 50th career game TE Jim Kleinsasser has blocked for a 100-yard rusher.

– If the Vikings win, it will be just the 3rd time the team has opened a season with back-to-back road wins (‘74, ‘97). The Vikings have started just 5 of the 49 seasons with 2 consecutive road games.

Farwell Questionable For Sunday

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 18, 2009 – 4:16 pm

The Vikings released their final injury report of the week on Friday afternoon, with no real surprises. LB and special teams ace Heath Farwell (hamstring) was limited all week and is listed as questionable.

The only change is that after being limited on both Wednesday and Thursday, G Anthony Herrera (back) was a full participant today. TE Jim Kleinsasser (hand) was also a full participant and is listed as probable along with Herrera.

Erin Henderson (calf) did not practice this week and is listed as out.

First Injury Report Released

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 9, 2009 – 3:15 pm

The Vikings wrapped up practice this afternoon and Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress released his team’s 1st injury report of 2009.

Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, teams are required to list players who are dealing with injuries and what that injury is, along with the players’ level of participation during that day’s practice. On Fridays only, one of 4 designations must be applied to each player regarding the likelihood of that player participating in the upcoming game. Those 4 designations are: out (0% chance of playing), doubtful (25% chance of playing), questionable (50% chance of playing) and probable (virtual certainty).

Three players appear on the Vikings injury report for today. Bernard Berrian (hamstring) and Jim Kleinsasser (hand) are listed as limited participants and Erin Henderson (calf) did not participate.

For the Browns, 8 players appeared on the injury report. OL Rex Hadnot (knee) is already listed as out for Sunday’s game. RB Cedric Peerman (thigh) did not participate. Listed as limited participants were LB David Bowens (knee), RB Jerome Harrison (knee), DT Shaun Rogers (foot) and DB Eric Wright (knee). Full participants were LB Alex Hall (shoulder) and Minnesota native TE Steve Heiden (knee).

Familiar Turf For Vikings Trio

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 1, 2009 – 6:38 pm

The Vikings will practice under the lights at Blakeslee Stadium tonight in Mankato. Blakeslee Stadium is where the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks football team plays its game, and the Vikings utilize the facility on occasion during training camp.

The Vikings have 3 players on the roster who have played on MSU’s Blakeslee field during their collegiate careers – TE Jim Kleinsasser (North Dakota), LB Kenny Onatolu (Nebraska-Omaha) and G Nick Urban (Winona State).

The team is scheduled to practice tonight from 7-9:15. Players and coaches will be available afterwards and we’ll have plenty of coverage on vikings.com.

Vikings Team Introduction Tonight

Posted by Mike Wobschall on July 31, 2009 – 8:28 am

Following this afternoon’s practice (approximately 5:00) the entire Vikings roster will be introduced to fans at Blakeslee Stadium. The Vikings marketing staff does a great job with this event each year. In the past, one player from the offense, defense and special teams has introduced his teammates from those units. Also, players have their hands full of merchandise and throw it to the crowd after being introduced.

A few other notes (courtesy of Vikings public relations pro Tom West) as we get Day 1 of practices under way…

– Happy 25th birthday to WR Glenn Holt. The Vikings signed Holt, who had been with the Bengals for 3 seasons, to a free agent contract this offseason. Holt has the 2nd longest kickoff return TD in Bengals history (100 yards), topped only by the 102-yard TD return that was registered by current Vikings RB coach Eric Bieniemy in 1997. Also, Holt’s cousin, Alan Holt, was a QB for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in the 1980s.

– Did you know that Vikings TE Jim Kleinsasser is entering his 11th season with the Vikings? This makes him the longest tenured professional athlete in the Twin Cities market.

– This year marks the 44th year the Vikings have held training camp in Mankato. The team held camp in Bemidji on the campus of Bemidji State University prior to Mankato.
