Kiper Projects WR Terrance Williams As Vikings 1st-Round Pick

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 16, 2013 – 11:19 am

No, it’s not time to launch this year’s Mock Madness, where we select a handful of draft prognosticators to follow on a weekly basis. That will happen once we get into March and the 2013 NFL Draft is fast-approaching. But we are in the offseason, so it is time to pay more attention to this year’s NFL prospects and what the prognosticators are, well, prognosticating.

We  got an early jump on this front last month when we pointed out that ESPN’s Todd McShay had already released his first mock draft of the season and projected the Vikings to take DT Sylvester Williams. McShay’s colleague at ESPN, Mel Kiper, Jr., is now officially on the board with his mock draft. Per usual, Kiper disagrees with McShay’s assessment (not surprising, though, at this stage in the process and with the Vikings selecting 23rd). Kiper sees the Vikings addressing the other side of the ball – offense.

Kiper projects Baylor WR Terrance Williams as the Vikings pick at #23 overall. Here’s what Kiper wrote about Williams:

“Last year, we saw both Josh Gordon and Kendall Wright taken out of Baylor, and Williams has the skill set to join them as a player drafted with the potential to make an early impact. Williams is first a player who can use his size and speed to stretch the field and take the top off a defense, but he also can make big plays on the sidelines, where he’ll tiptoe and make the catches as well as any pass-catching target in the draft. Williams also will beat you with the ball in his hands as a nifty runner with good size. Minnesota needs a dependable pass-catcher next to Percy Harvin and Kyle Rudolph.”

Terrance Williams, Jeremy Reeves

The part of Kiper’s analysis that stood out to me was Williams’ ability to make plays on the sidelines. As I stated earlier this week in providing thoughts about Atlanta’s victory over Seattle, a receiver’s ability to make plays along the boundary does a lot for a QB. If a QB knows his receiver has the ability to pull down a pass along the boundary, that presents more opportunities for big plays because that QB will be more willing to throw that receiver a pass even in coverage.

Williams, who measures in at 6-2, 205 pounds, is a senior who averaged 18.9 yards per catch and had 12 TDs last season, and for his career at Baylor he hauled in 202 catches and 27 TDs while averaging 16.5 yards per reception. He is scheduled to attend the Senior Bowl next week in Mobile, Alabama, and I’m slated to arrive on Monday so he’ll be one of the many players we keep an eye on next week.

Anyway, we might be getting ahead of ourselves. But it’s fun to speculate on the draft, and we’re now officially underway for 2013 draft season.

I guess not first. anyways this guy wasn’t considered with the top 3 like like allen or others. Wonder why him? Would he be available in the 2nd round?

  4. By H.M.G. on Jan 16, 2013 | Reply

Not likely to be around in the 2nd.
I do not like his route running. He is good at running GO routes but needs more work on learning the rest of a route tree.
Going defense first would be for the best. Because you can get similar WR in the 2nd-3rd.

    I like WR Hopkins…

I guess seeing as the site I am putting up with a new mock draft is predicting the QB I thought the Vikings might take in the first round…Have that QB going number one in this mock…

I thought QB Tyler Wilson would be a solid back up to Ponder and solid competition to push Ponder, and replace Webb with the 23rd pick in the first round of this springs draft…

    Agree on points about Patton.
Get something on defense be it MLB Alec Ogeltree, DT Sylvester Williams, DT Sheldon Richardson, S Matt Elam, or CB Johnathan Banks.
The D was starting to look soft against the run so DLine or MLB are the most likely of those options.
Plus Ogeltree can drop in coverage. Which the Tampa 2 defense needs to be more successful.

” But maybe Ponder’s lack of progress rests squarely on the shoulders of Bill Musgrave, whose unimaginative offense doesn’t adhere to the skill set of our young quarterback. Musgrave has proven he can’t adapt to utilize the talents of Joe Webb at quarterback for one game. How do we know Musgrave hasn’t hindered Ponder’s development by not working with him on an offense that works best for Ponder (and not one that Musgrave believes in, is comfortable running, etc.)? “

    The Musgrave Offensive Theory:

    1. Do not have your best players in on 3rd down
    2. Run the same offense regardless of the players you have
    3. If a deep pass works once in a game, DO NOT try it again in the same game
    4. Always run on 1st down
    5. If a play isn’t working, keep trying it anyway
    6. Do not have more than 7 plays on your play napkin at any given time

DRS- I don’t think Musgrave needs to be fired because of 1 or 2 games.
I don’t think we need to reinvent the wheel right now… But I wouldn’t mind seeing the Vikings bring on Mike Mularkey to help Musgrave improve and develop Ponder. Mularkey and Musgrave worked together in the same Atlanta system. Mularkey needs a job and Musgrave needs help….. Spielman and Frazier should connect the dots!!!

Was pretty close last year with my predictions…. hopefully this year I am close again! (Note: I did have other odd and somewhat crazy draft debates last year but that was to get other topics going… more fun that way.)

By Northern Norseman on Mar 28, 2012 | Reply
In an interview with Leslie Frazier that I was reading, I was able to pick up on a couple of crucial bits and pieces that he said.

    One quote:

(about Charlie Johnson) “Not necessarily leave him at left tackle. I want us to get some competition there and maybe even be able to take a look at him at left guard. He’s done it. He’s done it well in Indy, and we think he can do it at our place as well. So, if that’s going to make us better by getting a better left tackle than Charlie was at left tackle and be able to move him to guard, then that’s the way you do it…..”

(about Ponder) “He needs time, and we’ve got to surround him with the right weapons in key spots and make sure that our offensive line is the way we need it to be so that he doesn’t begin to get happy feet and lose confidence if he feels like he has to get rid of the ball sooner than he needs to and I can’t go through my reads, can’t do the things that a quarterback has to do.”

    — Those two would heavily suggest OT Matt Kalil will be the selection at #3

    Another quote:
(about Safety position) “We’ve got 10 picks, but you wonder how big of an impact they’ll make in that first year as a whole. So, hopefully, the safety position — whoever we take at safety — will be one of those that has a big impact on our team, and some of that depends on how high you take the guy sometimes. But whoever we draft at safety probably needs to come in and have an impact for us.”

    — This would suggest that the Vikings will be very interested in landing either S Mark Barron or S Harrison Smith because he said its a huge area of need and whoever they draft will need to come in and contribute right away….. you’ll need a good safety to do that and those two are the prospects that can be just that.

What about WR…… read this next qoute:

(about WR position) “It’s a pretty deep group. Watching them at the combine and now from our coaches going out to visit some of them. We think we’re going to be able to get a real good receiver in this draft. The fact that we’re picking as high as we are in each round and now we’ve got these multiple choices in the fourth round, we think we’re going to have a chance to get one of these good receivers.”

    — Since he mentions “deep group” and addressed having multiple 4th round selections…… we could very well see the Vikings address the WR position within the 4 selections we have in rounds 3-4.

Bottom line the top of the draft could look like:
    1st – OT Matt Kalil
    2nd(or trading into 1st) – S Mark Barron or S Harrison Smith
3rd-4th (4 picks) – combination of WRs, CBs, and BPA if someone is too good to pass up that has slipped in the draft.

We should trade Joe Webb (and probably a seventh round pick) to the Eagles for Vick….he could come in and start so Ponder can sit back for the next three years and study defenses and learn how to read and anticipate coverages because he is not very good at that yet…We need him to be able to check out of plays if need be and I didnt see him check out of a play once all season…kind of weird from a “Franchise quarterback”..Just my non-professional opinion.

Also draft Ogletree…Patterson….”Honey Badger”….Ezekiel Ansah from BYU…or whoever else looks good

    Ha hear me out!

Bring in the worlds best and some would say conditioning is a concern but they would be a rotational role player. Goal line, short yardage, throw in a couple 1st or 2nd downs through out the game.

Sumo wrestlers typically weigh between 280 and 450 pounds. They practice their whole lives to have perfect positioning to explode into another large man and knock him back.

My top 2 favorites at the WR position both reside in the color orange from Tennessee:

1st- Cordarrell Patterson (STUD!! He has gone from 3rd round consideration to top-15… not sure if Viking have a chance he will be at 23)

Also, lets just say he is innocent… how on earth do you not know after a year or so of dating her.

If T’eo was behind this just for attention than I have lost tons of respect for him. Seriously how messed up do you need to be to pull that off?

Entitled to your opinion you are but who are you to say that someday a freak star sumo wrestler couldn’t make some sort of impact in football as a DT/NT? I wasn’t entirely serious because there are so many reasons why that would be completely impractical. So would it happen…. probably never BUT there have been so many crazy stories and events that have happened throughout the history sports that to say itd be entirely impossible is foolish. Using the word ‘impossible’ in sports is ‘nearly’ impossible. (eyy see what I did there ha) If you were remotely a sports fan you would get what I have just said.

Ha I find it so funny how, without fail, in every comment section their is one person that takes life wayyyyy too seriously.

How do people feel about the possibility of trading up or down in the 1st round?

Trade up to get a legit stud like the Falcons did a couple of years ago with Julio?

Trade down to get extra selections for next year and ammunition to move up later in the draft?

Or would you rather just stay put at 23 and take whatever falls to the Vikings selection?

Got it. Just checking me boy. Hard to tell when reading text you know.

Also with Webb they should trade him… like you said. Tho at most in return we would get a 6-7th rounder (most likely 7th). Besides in your example I don’t think they would like Webb or Vick anyways with a 7th round pick tossed in. I think they should just push all their chip in him being a WR and see what happens. By then if he fails his contract will be up and he will be given his walking papers.

    (Going back earlier again)
The Vikings would never trade for Michael Vick nor would I back them to do it either.

-His contract is horribly huge and would drastically limit what the Vikings can do in free agency and the signing of our own players that have contracts ending or about to end.

-They are completely committed to Ponder next year

-It would bring unneeded media frenzy to MN that Frazier and Spielman wouldnt be happy about.

-Ponder being a back-up for 3 years would only hurt him at that point. If he has been in just let him keep playing because that is how he will learn the most the fastest. The Vikings will also know sooner if he is the guy or not.

-No way the Vikings are giving up draft picks for a questionable QB that is on the wrong side of 30

I shouldnt have to explain any more. This simply will not happen nor (again) would I ever ever ever want it to.

  140. By Northern Norseman on Jan 16, 2013 | Reply

    @Jeremy

Teams surrender nearly everything to stop Peterson.

Percy is just another headache they would need to constantly keep track of and Patterson would just make everything absolutely overwhelming.

The 3Ps would gather so much attention that Ds would nearly forget about Rudolph who could have big plays because of it.

Simpson could even get a few splash plays with all the attention on the others…. not to mention Wright or even Childs if he makes a smooth return.

Things can look very bright but a big key to that is getting Patterson. Might have to trade up but why not…. just give up a little to get a lot.

I wouldn’t be upset though if he does go early and an Ogletree falls to us or some other stud.

Even if that Alabama G Chance Warmack falls to the Vikings I would pull the trigger on him. People didn’t think Stanfords G David Decastro would get even close to falling past the top 15 and he went to the Steelers around #26…. so you never know.

Yeah i actually like simpson but do agree that for now he is only good for a few big plays here or there…

Our line would be set with Warmack but i doubt he makes it out of the top 15, if not top 10…

I would love to see Ogletree he definitely has the speed and coverage ability that our defensive scheme badly needs..he was a former safety that transitioned well and still has room to grow..

I would love to see us go for two first round picks again…Ogletree and Patterson should both be mid to late in the first round..Would also like DeAndre Hopkins WR from Clemson in 2nd or some beast DT but dont really know many good ones.

Johnson and at the same time develop behind him so when A. Johnson calls it quits they have someone already to take the rains.

As for NDSU. They are a very good team but they simply dont have the same caliber players that are in the Division 1-A. I bet a few of their guys could crack an NFL roster but they will most certainly not be drafted and will be camp walk-ons that try to make the team that way.

I like AJ jefferson. He just needs time to grow into his career at corner. He is very young yet and is a raw player that needs refining… that takes time. Great size, nice fluid hips in transition, well above average speed, and a good overall personality.

Jeremy I am not talking to you specifically but in this dumb knee jork world everyone wants to get rid of something when it is not the best NOW. Just as a seed needs time to become a plant to show its true colors…. us people are no different. Jefferson just needs time and I believe he can be a quality corner in the NFL. Will he be a star?…. not sure. Will he be a complete flop?…. its possible. At the end of the day I will bet Jefferson will end up on the right side of things.

With that said I hope he gets resigned and stays with the team a while longer.

    Just my opinion.

Another WR couldn’t hurt, but I think fans will be disappointed with them on the Vikings. We have some good WRs right now but have not figured out how to use them. QB, coaching, or game plan may be the reason, but there is something about the Vikings passing game that is out of balance. 2009 we were pretty good throwing the ball, but that was only for one season.

Ponder is not a legit running QB. Why Fran is talking up Ponder is beyond me, but he needs to give it a rest. No QB in the NFL is better at running the ball than Webb. As one of my coworkers who saw the playoff game said “Webb is a beast”. Webb’s failure in the GB game is a clear indication that the coaches are unable to make adjustments and devise plays that utilize their players skills effectively. We will have more than one game next season where Ponders future will be questioned. If the coaches can make some progress next year in their play selection, we will see a new starting QB. Webb or a veteran FA QB. Ponder is just not good enough…

    Gun control…

So when did the wackos in America start targeting schools..Instead of corrupt politicians and Judges in their minds ???…Most likely because the government controls to much of the media now days…They do not draw attention to themselves as targets…By not reporting those incidents in the news…
Instead…Put our children in danger…Blasting news across the country…Of demented minds finding public recognition and sick fame…Going after total innocents…Like our children is schools…

So why not blame a minority group of citizens…People who choose to protect themselves with guns…Any make or model of guns…We have to blame somebody !!!…Right ???…

So if society really wants to save children’s lives…Why not reduce the speed limits nationwide by 5 miles an hour in every zone ???…You would save THOUSANDS of lives across the country each year !!!…Children and adults…

Oh..Wait a second…That would involve EVERYONE in the country making a sacrifice to save children and adult lives…And frankly would not happen…Because, even though dropping the speed limit would save lives…It would be to much of an inconvenience in our daily lives…

Why are cell phones still being used in cars ???…
What happened to the regulations of putting “daytime running lights” in vehicles…Drivers know all to well…When the sun is setting or rising..Looking into the direction of the sun is so blinding…You can not see anything coming…But you CAN see head lights from a car if they are on..
.So why isn’t day time running lights mandatory ???…

Who is “convenient” to blame for the problems in the nation ???…When something bad happens to innocent people…
And when it is “inconvenient” for everyone…
Which major problems are overlooked ???…

    Guns are not the problem…

With this years draft being so Defensive heavy, I think we need a WR first. There are so many Dt’s that we can get in the 2nd or 3rd that will still be quality players. Did you hear the speech— I ask you (to Congress) – will you put the gun lobbyists in your state before the peace of mind of a parent who just dropped his or her child off at the first grade (Titus paraphrase– but pretty accurate– and he did say first grade).

  230. By OTKalil2012 on Jan 17, 2013 | Reply

Do parents and society really want to declare a war on drugs ???…

Then make laws where young adults after the age of 15…If they are caught using drugs…They can not get any government aid, grants, or loans to go to college…

Make it so colleges across the country have severe guidelines against any drug usage of any kind…Or police records involving ANY drug activity…

There are two ways that young adults wish to escape the boredom and reality of their hometown communities…One is to take drugs…To relieve boredom…Until they are old enough to go to college…Have more fun…And get themselves into more trouble taking drugs and alcohol….

If these young adults LEARN leaving their hometowns is not an option…If they take drugs or get into trouble with the police…And see their future ruined in the process…

Maybe young adults make better decisions ???…Instead of mommy and daddy just paying to get them out of trouble with their big billfolds !!!…These young adults are not stupid !!!…

Problems have answers…All answers are not “convenient”…

Make stronger regulations to get into ALL colleges…And stronger regulations to have a clear police record to get government money to pay for those colleges…

If these young adults find they have no way out of their small town or big city boredom…Because they have to behave to do it…
They will take the lesser of the 2 evils…If that evil is just being bored…And wanting something new to do…

Going to college and a career will keep them patient…Because they have too…

We will never stop violence this side of heaven. The problem is people look for physical solutions to spiritual problems. Locking up a gun is not going to stop the intentions of someone who has gone wayward– it may limit the degree of the destruction, but you can see in some Asian countries, even a lone person with just a knife can savagely attack many people– sometimes as many as if he had a gun. People can try all they want– the only way you truly stop any violence is through complete domination of every individual– because any one can snap– any one.

    2nd year: GP: 16 | Yds: 1759 | TD: 15 | INT: 9 | Rating: 87.8
    3rd year: GP: 16 | Yds: 3565 | TD: 19 | INT: 12 | Rating: 88.4

    — Christian Ponder —
    1st year: GP: 11 | Yds: 1853 | TD: 13 | INT: 13 | Rating: 70.1
    2nd year: GP: 16| Yds: 2935 | TD: 18 | INT: 12 | Rating: 81.2
3rd year: TBD (To Be Determined)

So you and others need to quit being to short sited and need to see how things play out over time.

Will Ponder become a star?… maybe.
Will Ponder become an absolute flop?… its possible

We simply dont know and need to give Ponder a couple of more weapons and another year before we know to move on or secure him long term.

Regional probation and parole administrator Dawn Handa told the Great Falls Tribune on Thursday that Leaf was terminated from the Nexus Treatment Center in Lewistown after violating the conditions of the placement, including threatening a staff member.

Leaf was charged with breaking into two houses and stealing prescription painkillers. He pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. He was sentenced in June to five years with the Department of Corrections with the recommendation that he spend the first nine months in a locked drug treatment facility.

Leaf also faces the revocation of a 10-year probationary sentence for a 2010 drug and burglary conviction in Texas

What are your guys thoughts on signing some LBs in FA. There are some pretty decent ones that could become available like: J. Durant, D. Levy, B. Jones, R. Maualuga, ect. If we could sign a couple of those guys and then draft a DT within the first two rounds and some CB depth in the mid to late rounds we would have a pretty solid defense.

  252. By Northern Norseman on Jan 17, 2013 | Reply

    @Immure

    Im with you on that.

Although I wouldn’t be upset going into next year with Brinkley and Henderson. They neither are elite but I think they are average-above average at what they do.

Signing them back for a couple of years will buy the team some time to stack up at other areas.

I think outside of WR that DT is the biggest need. The Vikings need to get one solid DT this offseason.

There are some very good DT’s in the draft and free agency.

My prediction is that the Vikings will get a decent DT in free agency that wont break the bank and another DT in the draft within the first 3 rounds.

As for LB I just find it very hard that the Vikings will get a LB in the first 2 rounds in this draft…. maybe even 3 rounds unless someone is far too good to pass up that falls to them. I can see them signing Henderson and possibly going after Maulaga to man the MLB position. I wouldn’t be suprised either if Brinkley is brought back again. Long term I feel the team will eventually put Audi Cole in at middle.

Peterson and Felton already outfront to block. Patterson kicks on his speed and boom. 6 on the board for our Vikes!!! I want this. You could hand the ball off to Peterson, let Percy keep it, or even let Patterson throw it to Rudolph after the reverse. In his highlights, he throws the ball pretty well.

i’d prefer we go after a WR because our defense has shown this season that they can hold it down most of the time. problem is our offense on 3rd downs mostly have suffered because our WRs (besides Percy Harvin) have not consistently come up with big catches, are generally slow, run bad routes, and simply cannot beat press coverage from CBs…

i really hope the vikings are @ least considering dewayne bowe or mike wallace…that would free up that 1st round pick for a big defensive tackle which i personally think we should use that pick on….adding a veteran wr would bolster ponders confidence more than bringing in another young guy to develop…it takes a few yrs to get a wr up to nfl speed (with a few exceptions) and we need to make a statement now….we have a good team with the ability to take over the devision for the next 5 or 6 yrs or however long ap is gonna play, and we are only 3 players away from being that team

  287. By Parkway on Jan 17, 2013 | Reply

Yeah there are 3 or 4 mid-tier OGs that are FA this offseason that would still be a big upgrade over Johnson and/or fusco/shwartz.

I could see us making a few small moves like that again instead of any big name. I really don’t see Spielman making any attempt at Bowe/Jennings/Wallace/Cruz etc.

I’d like to see us go after Grimes or DRC for a solid CB opposite of cook since we probably won’t go for one in the draft til the 4th round if at all. It’s still a position of concern.

There is a mostly unknown wr free agent named Ramses Barden who would come cheap. He`s been a giant for a few years, and had one start this year when the rest of their guys were hurt. He had a big game, like 130 or so yards, that we could sign cheap. 6`5″ or so. I saw him locally in college.

I think Speilman will bring in 1-2 mid tier WR in F.A. and then grab a couple in the draft in hopes of grooming of them into a true #1 WR.
I also have a feeling that we won’t land one of the big name WR in F.A.

  297. By Northern Norseman on Jan 17, 2013 | Reply

Yeah Spielman wont go super aggressive after some big fish in free agency but they will still throw out offers.

Just like college recruiting when things are going great then it is easier to show players your wonderful sugar coated world and they are more easily lured on in.

The vikings situation now is a lot better this year with a new stadium, playoff birth, rising young talent. So maybe a couple big fish do bite.

My favorite would be G Andy Levitre

All the teams were probably doping, so in his mind he felt he was not cheating— and you have to watch the tense of the language– everything was asked– did you feel that way at the time– he said No. He was so bent on deception, he believed that deception. Study the Eastern bloc — they were very good at that. Or in Orwell’s 1984, it is known as doublespeak– you get to a point where you believe your own lies as truth.

Didn’t we sign one of GB former receivers to the practice squad last year. I heard that he was a freak and we should also be getting the big wideout from Arkansas back as well. So I would probably not go WR until the third round (depending on what we get in free agency). Our two top needs are DT and MLB.

I really hope we do not go with a WR in the first round. This guy had a great season two years ago because he had RG3 throwing to him. He had an average year this year. With so many elite receivers in the Free Agency this year, why would we gamble with a weak receiver draft year to find someone who could possibly be an elite receiver. We need to address the D line with Kevin getting old and Guion being sub-par. I think there is less to lose in drafting a D-linemen in 1st round instead of a receiver this year. so many GREAT d-linemen in the draft this year while there are very few good receiver, no standouts.

OTK- good post on the East West Shrine Game!

RB Ray Graham is a must watch!
If Percy gets traded… Ray Graham doesn’t have the straight line speed that Harvin has (he is still can fly) but this kid has hands like a wideout and very quick. I think he might be a better WR than Harvin is.

    I like Ray!
J Wright in the slot, Graham in the backfield and Cordarelle Patterson or D Bowe out wide would be sweet. Ponder would have some

Graham has 98 career rec for 799 yards… 8.2 yards a catch out of the backfield OH MY…he also has 3271 career rushing yards.

I will be watching to see if he is solid in pass protection.

If you don’t know Ray Graham from Pitt, you need to find his you tube highlights.
Great hands with quick moves… not as physical as Harvin, but fun to watch.

    1) Columbine School shootings – April 20, 1999 – thirteen premeditated murders by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebolt, too young to vote but both from families who were progressive liberals and registered Democrats.

    2) VA Tech shootings “ April 16, 2004“ thirty-two premeditated murders by Cho Seung-Hui, a registered Democrat who had written hate mail to President George W. Bush.

    3) Fort Hood shootings – November 5, 2009 – thirteen premeditated murders by Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim and a registered Democrat.

Draft spot 2. QB/CB, either take (Alex) Smith as free agent for Ponder competition or draft one, he has to keep moving forward or drop him. Heard this is a bad draft year for QB’s though. That is what is troublesome Oz– I still think what he did was monumental. He said last night he did not dope when he came back in 2009 and 2010— if that is true, at 38 years of age he finished third without doping– I think he could have won before– ironically though his teammate who took first in 2009, later was accused of doping and lost one of his titles– 2010, or 11, can’t recall– so they were all on something.

” The Vikings coaching staff and front office are in the process of fully evaluating their roster as they plan for the opening of free agency in March as well as April’s NFL Draft. As General Manager Rick Spielman, head coach Leslie Frazier and their respective staffs put their heads together, the Access Vikings team is doing the same. 23. Minnesota

McShay: Sylvester Williams, DT (at No. 18 overall)

    Rang: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR

    Brugler: DeAndre Hopkins, WR

    Cherepinsky: Keenan Allen, WR

With things beginning to look cloudy regarding Percy Harvin and his relationship with the team, the expert panel sides with the wide receiver position for obvious reasons.

If Keenan Allen is available at No. 23, the Vikings could immediately bolster their receiving corps with a guy that can step in right away and provide Christian Ponder with a reliable target.

Digging a little deeper into McShay’s prediction, Kevin Williams is 32 years old and set to make $7 million next season. Drafting a young and explosive defensive lineman like Sylvester Williams to learn behind Kevin, or perhaps take his spot, would be a wise decision moving forward.

  498. By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Jan 20, 2013 | Reply

Motivation seems to come naturally me if I do two things– one, I keep a calendar for my endurance and one for my weight training– so I keep track and know exactly where I am at and if I have missed a day or two– and second is related– I never go long without working out– I might take two or three weeks off a year– period. If I were to take too much time off, it is hard to get back into it. But if it part of your natural existence, the opposite is true– I have to make sure I do NOT exercise and rest properly.

  499. By BigHorn on Jan 20, 2013 | Reply

First, we need a shut down cover CB in this draft. Next we could really use a good DT to help provide fresh feet through out the game to rush the QB. We can address WR in FA.

Trade Percy for a 1st round pick (somewhere in the upper to mid range) to get a good DT – either the kid from Georgia or the German kid coming out early from Florida St. Then with the 23rd pick try and get shut down corner Xavier Rhodes from Florida
    St (if he is available)

I would like to see MBT practice with the first team to see how he does. He could possibly push Ponder. Get a QB in FA (such as Alex Smith) or in rounds thru 7 to help MBT push Ponder, or in case Ponder is hurt.

    over the summer the coaches
and coordinators will devise a plan to better use Gerhart and Felton
in certain situations that will greatly improve our chances for
    surprise “Big Plays”.

On defense Greenway, Allen, and Winfield will lead the team in
believing that next year will be the year for them to win the Super
Bowl and so the other vets and the younger players will be motivated
and hyped up – and will not need much other motivation to play their
best; Harrison Smith will improve to a Pro Bowl caliber S and we
will draft a shut down cover corner to go with Smith and Mistral
Raymond and Josh Robinson will be greatly improved at their
positions giving us solid first string and backup secondary players
who will make our secondary one of the most feared in the NFC.

Botton line: We will be in the 3rd year of a rebuilding campaign
that will successfully culminate in a Vikings team that pulls it all
together and competes for the Super
Bowl. We’ve got lots to look forward to!!!…….GO VIKES!

If only there were more players like AD, This man was rewarded with a 100 Million contract by the Vikings, He played every game hard and left it all on the Feild. He then gets injured, A career ending type injury for a RB, So what did he do, He worked and worked and gutted it out, and made it back on the Feild, but after a few weeks, He began running like a man Possesed, He Proved that he is still the best RB in the NFL, And he showed the Vikings what kind of man, and player he is to this Franchise. And that will never be forgotten.

  599. By MistaVista on Jan 23, 2013 | Reply

Umm… get that Patterson guy from Tennessee first round… make sure we resign loadholt as he is not only a huge man that can block for AD but a project guy who can learn alot and be a relatively cheap RT for a few years and perhaps a star in 3 or 4 years to come. Ponder can also develop, but I think picking up a veteran free agent such as Alex Smith could really help his development and create a good competition at quarterback. Defensive secondary is also a good position to work on in the draft. We need a little more depth at the CB and Safety positions. But…. if a guy like Manti Te’o is still available at #23 I think you could definately throw him in that linebacking core of ours. We’re also getting a little old and slow at DT… so there’s alot of work to do in alot of positions. I’m confident in Rick Spielman as he has drafted pretty well in the past.

I don’t know guys… Have you watched the film on him? I DO NOT think he’s the guy we’re looking for on the outside. Three reasons:

1.) Traps the ball against his chest, call em chest catches. This is his preferred style and it’s flooding his highlight reel. Granted, he seems to understands the sidelines, but I’m questioning his hands.

2.) Agility, speed, and playmaking… All big questions for me. Doesn’t like to get hit (willingly falls to the turf) and doesn’t seem light on his feet.

3.) What’s the difference between him and Michael Jenkins? Answer: age.
