Vikings Sign Punter Conley And DB/Returner McCoy To Futures Contracts

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 10, 2013 – 7:31 am

The Vikings 2012 season ended last Saturday night, and the front office has wasted no time in getting moving on building the roster for 2013.

Earlier in the week, the Vikings signed 8 players who were on the practice squad at season’s end to Reserve/Future Free Agent contracts. And then on Wednesday, the Vikings signed another pair of players to futures contracts.

Wednesday’s acquisitions were P T.J. Conley and CB Greg McCoy.

Conley played college football at the University of Idaho and was an undrafted free agent in 2009. He joined the NY Jets from 2009-2011 and was a free agent in 2012. He was the Jets starting punter in 2011, the only year he recorded statistics, and in that season he punted 92 times in 16 games for a gross average of 42.7 and a net average of 38.8. None of his punts were blocked and none were returned for TDs, while 32 of them landed inside the 20 and 32 were returned for an average of 7.5 yards.

McCoy was a 7th-round pick of the Chicago Bears out of TCU in 2012 and was cut on final cutdown day heading into the regular season. He spent time on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. McCoy had 7 INTs in 51 career college games at TCU and he was named his conference’s special teams player of the year in his final season after averaging 30.6 yards per return and scoring 2 TDs on 37 kickoff return attempts.

The other 8 players signed to Reserve/Future Free Agent contracts by the Vikings this past week are: DT Chase Baker, RB Joe Banyard, TE LaMark Brown, DB Bobby Felder, TE Chase Ford, G Tyler Holmes, OT Kevin Murphy and WR Chris Summers.

Sign or trade Percy, do it now so you can go forward with getting what you need this spring. Why all this waiting, is it because Percy has no clue what he wants to do?

Vikings please get some receivers who can hold onto the ball besides Percy.

Trade or pay percy, stop all this playing around. SKOL Vikings

    DRS…

Snuggle in for a long ride my friend…This Percy stuff could go all the way up to draft day…Maybe even Harvin sitting out in training camp…

I think by the middle of February…We might have a decent idea what is going to happen with Percy…It might be sooner..Don’t get me wrong…But Spielman isn’t giving Harvin away…But if some team offers a good deal early…Spielman might take that offer…To get rid of the bad press and questions also…

This Harvin thing could go on for months yet…Or a deal might be in place after the winter owners meeting in about 3 weeks ???…Who knows…But Spielman isn’t going to rush things with Percy…He wants the best deal possible for Harvin…That means letting teams bid for his services…And that could go all the way up to draft day…Or at least close to it…

OTKalil2012 you may be right though I feel the sooner they take care of this the sooner they can start planning what they are going to do. It may be wise to wait and see who will give the most for Percy, though waiting too long may back fire on the Vikings. We will just have to keep faith in the Vikings management to do the correct thing. SKOL Vikings and btw if they are to keep Percy they should stipulate in the contract that he needs to play a majority of his games to get full pay, Just my opinion.

    DRS….

Keep in mind…They are already talking a little about restructuring K Williams contract…And a little about Allen…Felton wants to stay here in Minnesota…AP wants Loadholt to stay…etc…

Is there any talk about extending Harvin’s contract or about Harvin himself ???…

    No…Not a word…

A punter and kick returner, are they replacing Kluwe and Sherels? or just bringing in competition.

  15. By vikings rule on Jan 10, 2013 | Reply

i Vikings told Kluwe to cool it and he never did, so they will be replacing him

DRS … Those articles don’t tell us anything we don’t already know. The only people that know Percy’s status are Percy and the Vikings Staff, and they’re keeping their cards close to their vest.

I honestly believe that the door is still wide open for Percy. It will be his decision alone if he stays or goes, based on his willingness to participate as a member of the team.

Kluwe did plenty for the Vikings on the field, but it’s clear the Vikings Staff doesn’t want to contend with the media mudslinging. Good Riddance!

    1. McCoy sounds like the Real McCoy!
    2. Will be satisfied that plow-boy Kluwe will be back on the farm. Not to soon.
    3. Stop all this talk about getting rid of Harvin and Webb.
    4. Get ready to root for which ever team plays the over rated Green Packers!
    5. Keep nr. 4 in mind all 2013 and beyond.

The best part about Kluwe is that he holds the ball great for Walsh! I hope we can get a consistent holder for field goals.

lots of gr8 readin this morin … i agree with those thinkin a harvin decision may not happen til draft time … i can think of at least one team out there that just may be willing to giv up a #1 & #2 pick to acquire percy harvin (StL they hav 2-1st rnd picks) that would be worth the swap … Rnd #1 Pick #22 (from StL) … Cordarrelle Patterson … wr … tennessee … 6’3″ … 205# … Rnd #1 Pick #23 … Barrett Jones … c/g/t … alabamma … 6’4″ … 305#… i know i know i am gonna get some greif about Jones … seriously this athlete is like gettin 5 1st rounders in one body… has played LT for an ncaa champion , has played right guard for an ncaa champion and as you watched last monday has played center for an ncaa champion … put jones beside kalil and the purple will hav their next HOF duo … now to address the kluwe thing he has been a very good purple punter … there is only one purple punter for the next 15yrs and an this man will be a game changer in every game for his entire career … Brad Wing … p … lsu … 6’3″ … 197# ,,, wing and blair would be the best pair of kickers ever!!!!!!! i pick wing with
Rnd #2 Pick #52 … Brad Wing … p … lsu … 6’3″ … 197# … i know i know ya all gonna say that is a reach until ya see him kick indoors for the next 10-15 yrs … thx for allowin this grammatically challenged die hard old time purple fan to ramble

Get a free agent qb and have some competition…
Webb isn’t the answer and Ponder is a backup qb at best…no franchise qb on this roster.
Go after alex smith…even Vick is better than Ponder.
Better yet Move up for Matt Barkley.
I’m sure he can match ponders 87 yrd per game avg.

I think we retain Harvin after all said and done, sure there will be drama but he stays put, the concern should be playing healthy thru the year and postseason.
Give Ponder targets who can actually possess the ball with a potent running attack and mix plays for Webb who also can be a weapon. I also like the idea of having a veteran qb in the fold just in case of injury or performance. Looking forward to next season. The season we take the division. GO VIKES!

Say no to Percy !!! Hanging on isnt a professional attitude….either hes a viking or he isnt. We can get 2 quality WR for him hopefully. Keeping Jarius Wright of course.
