Adrian Peterson’s Final (And Historic) Regular Season Numbers
Posted by on January 1, 2013 – 10:03 amVikings RB Adrian Peterson came up 9 yards short of surpassing Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record. But he didn’t come up short of making history this season. Here’s a look at just a few of the incredible and historically significant records and statistics produced by Peterson and the Vikings rushing offense during the 2012 regular season…
– Peterson led the NFL in rushing with 2,097 yards, a total that ranks as the 2nd-best single-season total in NFL history and a total than was 484 yards ahead of the next RB (Washington’s Alfred Morris). He also led the NFL in scrimmage yards with 2,314, beating Lions WR Calvin Johnson by 350 yards. Peterson is just the 7th player in NFL history to rush for 2,000-plus yards.
– In Week 1, Peterson surpassed Robert Smith as the Vikings all-time leading rusher. He finished the season-opener against Jacksonville with 84 rushing yards, giving him a total of 6,836 at the time. Smith’s previous record was 6,818.
– Peterson is the first Vikings RB to lead the NFL in rushing twice (2008, 2012).
– With 2,097 rushing yards in 2012, Peterson now owns 5 of the top 7 single-season rushing totals in Vikings history. Also, Peterson had single-game rushing totals of 212, 210, 199 and 182 yards. With those single-game totals, Peterson now owns 9 of the top 12 Vikings single-game rushing totals.
– Peterson crossed the 8,000-yard rushing mark in 2012, becoming the 45th player in NFL history to do so and becoming the 6th-fastest to reach the mark (85 games).
– Peterson scored 12 rushing TDs in 2012 and became the first player in Vikings history to notch 10+ rushing TDs in 6 seasons.
– Peterson set a team record with 8 consecutive 100-yard rushing games from Week 7 to Week 15.
– With 7 runs of 50+ yards, Peterson tied Barry Sanders for the single-season NFL record in that category.
– From Week 7 to Week 15, Peterson had 1,313 rushing yards, the most rushing yards by a player in NFL history over any 8-game span.
– Peterson registered his career-long run (82 yards) on December 2 at Green Bay, and then matched it two weeks later in St. Louis with another 82-yard TD run.
– Peterson averaged 131.0 rushing yards per game this season, which ranks 1st in team history by an incredible 21.0 yards (Peterson averaged 110.0 per game in 2008).
– With three 2-TD rushing days in 2012, Peterson now has 18 2+ TD rushing games in his career, a team record. The Vikings are 13-5 in games in which Peterson has 2+ rushing TDs.
– With 2,634 rushing yards as a team, the Vikings tied a franchise record set in 2007 for team rushing yards in a season. The Vikings also set a new team record with a 5.4-yard per-carry average.

We are a playoff team. It’s time for the Wilfs to open up the checkbook this offseason. AD is still in his prime, our QB should have his breakout season in his 3rd year. I’ll assume at minimum we will get a 1st round next year for Harvin (writing appears to be on the wall with his time in MN)
Draft:
1st Round:
If we get a 10-15 pick: Dee Millner (CB)
Any Lower: Patterson (WR)
Our pick: Patterson or Banks (CB) (contingent on first pick)
2nd round: Minter (ILB)
3rd round: Gabe Jackson (OG)
4th round: (from Detroit): Wreh-Wilson (CB)
Our pick: Jordan Hill (DT)
Free Agency:
Dwayne Bowe (WR)
Rodgers-Cromartie (CB)
This will be a superbowl contender for the next 5-7 years.

we should be able to get 2 first rounders for harvin, or a first and 2 seconds. but i say let him sit out if he chooses and go hungry for a year, maybe he’ll adjust his attitude when he’s not collecting a pay check for a year. other than that a few b/u in the secondary and OL, a future replacement for jared and loadholt and we’re good for a couple years.

Its so great to know we can focus on other positions in the draft and not QB. Get more talent on the defense and surround the Pond with some weapons. But defense is more important.
We need a defense that can take the ball away and give our O more possessions so we can keep feeding AD the ball!

I watch Chiefs games. There are times when Bowe does not seem to be giving his full effort. Having a bad QB is no excuse. When Ponder was in his slump that did not stop Percy from giving his all on the field.
I actually like what Frazier did with Percy. Make him realize that he is not bigger than the TEAM. Percy is probably sitting at home thinking he could be a part of this but he is not, because of his attitude and that is something he needs to change. I’d say the responsibility lies with his teammates to help him out and get him on the right track.
I’m sure Frazier still wants him on his team. This is reminding me a little of the Cook situation last year. I trust Frazier knows what hes doing.

We should not be wanting percy to go…we will have issues like this with players every single year beacuse of the make up of our society. We should hope that our coaching staff knows how to overcome a hiccup. Percy’s issue is not an effort or criminal problem…its an off the field attitude issue…Bowe is an effort issue….lets get someone like jennings, gerson, or even crabtree…someone to truly teach the position to the youngster

I hated him for the longest time for going there!!! However, he is still one of my favorite Vikings of all time!!!! Packer fans hated it when Favre came to the Vikes and it will take a long time for them to get over that, I’m sure they would feel the same about Greg Jennings if he came to Minnesota!!!!

1996 Draft
1. N.Y. Jets – Keyshawn Johnson, WR Southern California
2. Jacksonville – Kevin Hardy, OLB Illinois
3. Arizona – Simeon Rice, DE Illinois
4. Baltimore – Jonathan Ogden, T UCLA
5. N.Y. Giants – Cedric Jones, DE Oklahoma
6. St. Louis – Lawrence Phillips, RB Nebraska
7. New England – Terry Glenn, WR Ohio State
8. Carolina – Tim Biakabutuka, RB Michigan
9. Oakland – Rickey Dudley, TE Ohio State

14. Houston – Eddie George, RB Ohio State
15. Denver – John Mobley, OLB Kutztown, Pa.
16. Minnesota – Duane Clemons, DE California
17. Detroit – Reggie Brown, LB Texas A&M
18. St. Louis – Eddie Kennison, WR Louisiana State
19. Indianapolis – Marvin Harrison, WR Syracuse
20. Miami – Daryl Gardener, DT Baylor
21. Seattle – Pete Kendall, G Boston College
22. Tampa Bay – Marcus Jones, DE North Carolina
23. Detroit – Jeff Hartings, C Penn State
24. Buffalo – Eric Moulds, WR Mississippi State
25. Philadelphia – Jermane Mayberry, G Texas A&M-Kingsville
26. Baltimore – Ray Lewis, ILB Miami
Well top 5 for sure … Ogden and Harrison only other 2 guys … take Ogden out because he only lasted 10 seasons and Ray finally had a couple bad years.
By Parkway on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply
For sure, I’m not saying they aren’t worth it I’m just saying that’s typically how the draft plays out so we could get more value by trading back a bit to get him instead of using that pick.
And 61vikings, if KC doesn’t like any of the top prospects, they might actually be looking to get out of that pick without there being a consensus #1 guy this year.

Keyshawn Johnson, Jonathan Ogden, Eddie George, Marvin Harrison, and Ray Lewis are the only ones who amounted to anything. Although Keyshawn did it with TB so he could be considered a bust pick by the Jets.

61vikes…. But a 2-14 team most likely has a lot of holes, so trading that pick for more picks or a known commodity in the NFL makes sense. And once again, when there is not a consensus #1 guy it’s likely. Not saying it’s likely that Shawn’s trade would ever happen, but it’s not that far fetched given the talent that is available in the draft this year.
If they were going to get Luck or RG3 this year obviously there is no way they would trade it, but there is no equivalent player this year.

Trade for Fitzgerald…Or build through the draft…
But…Between Jennings and Bowe ???…Jennings is the much better option by far !!!…
Bowe has had bad QB’s throwing to him…But Bowe is the only decent WR on the KC team to throw the ball too…And KC is a team always throwing the ball…Because they are always behind in games…
Jennings has a solid QB throwing to him…But the Packers also have MANY other WR’s to catch Rodgers pass attempts…
If Jennings came to Minnesota…He would not be getting numbers like 1100 to 1200 yards like he is for the Packers…Jennings would be getting about 1300 to 1500 yards here…Because we don’t have as many receiving weapons here…
Why do you think Harvin was leading the league in receptions, before he got hurt ???…
Jennings is a MUCH more polished WR over Bowe…imo…
I agree totally with GDP on this one !!!…
GO VIKINGS !!!…

Griffen is a one of a kind freak– great athlete.

This could be a huge offseason possibly better than last year with depth at the right positions.
Gerhart
Percy
Jared
We will have a good cap space b4 anything happens.

DWayne Bowe.

I like the idea of Fitzgerald– he is getting nowhere in AZ and he is not getting younger. Players will want to come here now because they see we are contenders– everything is looking up and for a long time. Like the Bud Grant era, we should be taking the division crown for the next, oh say, decade.

The fact that the team is no longer at risk of being moved and a new stadium on the way will also help bring in some free agents.

Yes, every player will want to be here– the latest, most modern stadium, good living in the metro, great team contending every year. Yep, looks like we made it…

Fitsgerald would be a perfect fit! is his contract up? a home grown!

Spencer you watching the game? It reminded me of the Jared Allen play against Tampa … SC just got robbed by the refs and Clowney went into beast mode destroyed the RB and recovered the fumble
By RichardA1 on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply
He aint comming, he signed a 8 year contract last year.

The Cards need to dump payrole…And rebuild their offensive and defensive lines…
They have fired Whisinhunt and their GM…
They need money for the basics…Dump big payrole players…And start from scratch…
That is what a new GM should do…Invest through the draft….
That would mean trading Fitz…And getting the best draft picks you can for him…And dumping his big contract numbers with him…
You can’t keep an expensive WR…When you don’t have a decent QB to throw him the ball…Or an O-line to protect that QB…
In other words…”You don’t put the cart, before the horse”…Cards need to start over with a solid foundation in the trenches…

You say trade J. Allen? Clear up cap space? I say trade Adrian Peterson.
Wow, look at the cap space! Trade Percy, Cook, Peterson, ect, all good players.
Then we can start all over again. In ten, fifteen years might have a team again.
Sarcasm works both ways
By OTKalil2012 on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply
The problem is…
You can’t wait too long to trade players…
Because their value in a trade scenario will be totally gone…
I agree with Shawn…If Griffen and Ballard are ready to help along the DE position..Along with Reed and others…
Trading Allen, instead of paying him 15+ million dollars against our cap next season ???…Might very well be thing to do…
Trades are not always easy to do…
But can be very necessary for cap purposes…

Clowney is going to be a fine DE when he comes out of College next year.

BB7, Allen is on the wrong side of 30 and won’t be a contributor soon. It’s smart to get something for him while we still can.
By Immure on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply
I think Griffen’s, B Rob’s, and Allen’s contracts all expire at the end of next season. So the likely hood of us being able to retain all of them is slim to none. So I agree we should at least try to get something for one of them. Preferably Allen (not that I want to see him go) because he is the oldest and probably will be the most expensive.

This is why I liked football back in the ’70′s a lot more than today!! Players stayed with there teams there entire career!! The thought of trading Eller,Page or Marshall was out of the question!! So, no trading of J.Allen, out of the question!!! I can’t even remember the last player we traded and what we got for it!!
By Immure on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply
Last players I think we traded was Sage and Renaud and we got a couple picks for them.

It seems like everyone on here is really leaning toward G Jennings over Bowe. I don’t agree, especially w/ the argument of, “Jennings had A Rod and KC only had Bowe.” I don’t think you guys realize that Jennings had his pro bowl year when he played FROM THE SLOT!! Don’t get me wrong, I love Jennings, but we have arguably the most explosive player in the NFL, Percy Harvin, and I would take him in the slot over Jennings any day of the week and then put the big man Bowe out on the wing. I’m a big fan of Bowe and the numbers he has put up, before having the fear of Texas’ Jamaal Charles in the backfield, despite being their only offensive threat. Jennings has the luxury, maybe not as much during his pro bowl year, of having 3rd and 4th string CBs guarding him due to the packers depth at WR…just as we saw w/ our young PR and KR, Marcus Sherels, having to guard Jennings.
Re-sign Percy!!! He’s too unique and disruptive to trade…when is the next time the draft will produce another Percy Harvin (Don’t say Tavon Austin please…), and Randall Cobb is having a great year out of Kentucky, but he is still no Percy
