Ponder Produces Best Game In Biggest Moment

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 31, 2012 – 7:36 am

Sunday’s win-and-in, season finale against the Green Bay Packers was a big moment for the Vikings organization. Having won just 9 of their previous 32 games entering the 2012 season, the Vikings won 9 games in 2012 alone and needed a 10th victory in the season’s final week to qualify for the postseason.

They did it. The Vikings registered a thrilling, instant classic 37-34 victory that included a walk-off 29-yard FG from their rookie Pro Bowl kicker – Blair Walsh. The game also included a historic performance from RB Adrian Peterson, as he rushed for 199 yards and a TD on 34 carries. In the effort, Peterson became just the 7th player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards.

In mentioning the individuals who were instrumental in guiding the Vikings to victory, Peterson and Walsh should be near the top of the list. At the top of the list, though, you’ll find QB Christian Ponder. He’s been much-maligned at times in Minnesota, producing uneven results in 25 career starts entering Sunday. He’s had ups and downs. He’s been criticized plenty. Some say he cost the Vikings a victory earlier in the season at Lambeau Field with costly 2nd-half interceptions that spoiled a 210-yard rushing output by Peterson.

But on Sunday, in what was the biggest moment yet in his young career, Ponder gave us his best performance. He was 16 of 28 for 234 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs, good for a 120.2 passer rating. He took just one sack, had no turnovers, and made clutch throws in crucial moments. On 3rd downs, Ponder was 8 of 11 for 87 yards with 1 TD, no sacks and no INTs. Of the 8 completions on 3rd downs, 6 resulted in 1st downs.

“He made so many big plays at the quarterback position, some of the throws,” Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier said. “He’s playing at a high, high level at this point. We needed that today against a high powered offense with an excellent quarterback. He did a terrific job. He’s playing very good football at the right time for us.”

The key moment of the game came at the 2-minute warning, and all the pressure was on Ponder. Facing a 3rd and 11 from the Minnesota 27 with 2:00 to play and the game knotted at 34, Ponder dropped back, pump faked, and found WR Michael Jenkins in between defenders for a 25-yard completion. That led to the eventual game-winning FG by Walsh. Earlier in the 4th quarter with the game tied at 27, it was Jenkins who was on the receiving end of a 3-yard TD toss from Ponder after the QB had avoided pressure and scrambled to his left to buy time. That Ponder-to-Jenkins TD play also came on a 3rd down.

“He’s grown a lot,” Jenkins, a 9-year veteran, said in the locker room after the game. “A lot of people outside of this locker room have written him off. That was tough to see him kind of go through that, but he persevered through that. He battled. It was probably his best game today.”

It was definitely his best game. As I wrote in the Monday Morning Mailbag, Sunday was certainly a Top 3 performance for Ponder when you look at the raw numbers. He’s thrown for more yards on seven occasions, but he’s never had a higher single-game passer rating (120.2) and the performance against Green Bay is the 2nd time he’s had 3-plus TD passes in the game. But when you consider the circumstances in concert with the raw numbers, there’s no question that Sunday’s win over Green Bay was the best performance of Ponder’s career. Given what transpired before the Vikings even kicked off, with both Chicago and the NY Giants winning, the Vikings were in a true win-and-in scenario, where there was no way for them to qualify for the postseason with a loss.

This game will go down as one game in his entire body of work as the Vikings evaluate him going into the offseason. But the quarterback position, more than any other, is evaluated with careful consideration to “clutch moments,” and Sunday’s game against Green Bay represented as clutch a moment as Ponder has seen in his career. Ponder played his best game in the biggest moment.

    Great game by Ponder.
So happy to NOT have to listen to haters this week

ONly 9 yards short huh? Man, That is so close it hurts me. Still one of the best if not maybe even the best running season in history, keep ion mind D-ickerson had about 30 or so more carries than AP did. AP would have CRUSHED with the same amount of total carries. And NO RB in the history of the league has EVER run for more yards in December than AP did this year!!! AP FOR MVP BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ponder did play very well yesterday. Hit a few big pass plays, the 3rd and 11 to Jenkins was probably the play of the game for Ponder. There was also a few good hits over the middle and I of course can’t leave the long one to Jarius Wright out. All great throws and great game.

The D went a little slack in the game towards the end, but played decent. They picked on our young guys and we picked on their less reputible Dbacks.

Going into Lambeau now might be even harder with Cobb coming back to play next week. But I think if the Offense can play the way they did yesterday and the D can elevate their play a little from yesterday, we could easily come out with a win. The D has to step up a little bit more and make sure then finish Rogers when we have the chance to do so. We got there 5 times yesterday, but it didn’t seem to slow Rogers to much. If they want to split 5 widem. I say go for it. Our D line is better than their O line, and Griffen is possesed right now. Had three of our 5 sacks yesterday. Beast.

The game is winnable, just need to keep confidence up, If Ponder keeps playing like he has been, there should not be anyone out there (even me) that thinks we don’t at least have a shot to take it to the house. We just need to keep playing complimentary football and we can go far in this league!!!!

    Great team win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clutch game by Ponder. I’ll admit I was definitely doubting him during the terrible slump that he had.
We already knew how he could play after the game against the 49ers.
I’m glad he’s improved at the best time possible.
I think AP had a perfect game, yeah he didn’t break the record but that’s ok.
He’s gonna go down as the best of all time.
Gotta bring it at Lambeau next week.

On that throw to J Wright…

I knew something good was about to happen !!!…Because Ponder dropped straight back…Planted both his feet…And “stepped into” that throw down the field…

To tell the truth…When I saw Ponder release that trow…I was thinking TD from the moment it left his hand…(it wasn’t…but close to it)…. :-)

Why do people have to display stupid screen names “Ponder AKA SUCK IT HATERS” So people take notice to things that other don’t see, they have their opinions on what they believe will make the team better and that makes them haters? Really! I am one of those people that has had negatives to say about the young Ponder. Guess what? I own his jersey, do you have his jersey? If your the fans calling others haters cus you don’t agree with their opinions will then I call you non Ponder jersey owners HATERS. Stupid is all I can say, You all think Ponder is good enough to call others haters, but you don’t think he is good enough to buy his jersey then shut your faces.

Rogers is a piece of cr ap and I hope we make him eat dirt next week. He can’t even be proffessional is his own Profession. What a D -bag!!!!

This week…Expect things to get physical…During plays…After the plays are over !!!…etc…

Packers are whiners and poor sports !!!…They do not care about rules (even if they do….they have refs that will change them in the middle of games to fit the Packers needs)…

These Packers will be making penality hits all game long…And pointing there fingers at the Vikings…Saying they caused the penalty…And the refs will listen to them…Because Ted Thompson pays them a higher wage…Than R Goodell does…

Ever wonder why the Packers do not have one owner running the team ???…Because with the city running the team…And when Thompson finally gets caught with his cheating ???…The city doesn’t get a bad name…Just Thompson…So they fire him…And life as a Packer fan goes on…

Why are the Packers…The only team in the NFL allowed sell “stock” in their team ???…

WHY ARE THE PACKERS SPECIAL ??? …AND ALLOWED TO DO ANYTHING THEY WANT !!!…

They even have refs change rules(yesterday) that were in effect a few weeks ago ???…When the Packers played the Lions…

I did not hear of any special owners meeting to change that rule…That lost a game for the Lions…A few weeks back to the Packers !!!…

    WHY !!!…Roger Goodell…WHY ???…

  19. By OTKalil2012 on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

There were so many bad calls by the refs when the Packers played the Lions in both games…I thought it was them…

Point is…It was the exact same situation as the Lions game…

That play was UN-reviewable…Because of the penalty flag thrown…When McCarthy threw that red flag…

It was called a fumble recovery for the Vikings on the field…It should have stayed that way…

  20. By 61Vikings on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

Aaron Rodgers is the biggest cry baby in the NFL!!! Every time he gets hit he looks at the ref and expects to get a flag!!! Most protected QB in the NFL!!! I’m glad we sacked him five times and forced a crucial fumble!!! Looking forward to the rematch on Saturday!! The only thing I don’t like is that the game is a night game!!! The Packers can not stop AP!! He has over 400 yards in two games against the Packers!!!

  21. By OTKalil2012 on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

What about the TD earlier in the season…That was reviewed…Ref raised his hands announced the TD…Points went up on the board…

But the refs come back and change their minds…Because that could…Because the other team had not ” kick off yet ” ???…

    Total bull !!…
There is no more reviewing allowed once the TD has been announced…And points go up on the board…

Didn’t that ruling help the Packers also ???…

What the Vikings are doing the last few games is finding a fine line balance based on AP’s running prowness and it’s working. Ponder has resilience and toughness and shows he has the skills, mindset, and team backing to orchestrate this club all the way.

  27. By 61Vikings on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

They don’t get enough credit, but here’s to the offensive line of the Minnesota Vikings who played a heck of a game yesterday and for the season, helping AP reach the 2000 yard mark!!! Most of the runs was just AP being AP, but you still need a great offensive line to block for you and open up those holes for AP to run in!!!!

I’ll post this one about 20 times. We are a playoff team. It’s time for the Wilfs to open up the checkbook this offseason. AD is still in his prime, our QB should have his breakout season in his 3rd year. I’ll assume at minimum we will get a 1st round next year for Harvin (writing appears to be on the wall with his time in MN)
    Draft:
    1st Round:
If we get a 10-15 pick: Dee Millner (CB)
    Any Lower: Patterson (WR)
Our pick: Patterson or Banks (CB) (contingent on first pick)
    2nd round: Minter (ILB)
    3rd round: Gabe Jackson (OG)
4th round: (from Detroit): Wreh-Wilson (CB)
    Our pick: Jordan Hill (DT)
    Free Agency:
    Dwayne Bowe (WR)
    Rodgers-Cromartie (CB)
This will be a superbowl contender for the next 5-7 years.

3rd and 11 with 2 minutes left…..we all knew if we had to punt that ball the game was over but some how some way Ponder found a wide open Jenkins kinda reminded me of that 1st pass Ponder threw to Jenkins last year in his very 1st start…what a clutch play….Ponder played great under pressure in a do or die situation…..I think next week we can run the ball and ride the beast in those cold winter conditions………..BEAST MODE………………Peterson for MVP!!!!!!!! poor lovie just got fired cuz the vikings won

We cannot afford another great player to leave here, its time to pay one of your best players, do the right thing!!! The best pick the Vikes can end up with in this years draft is between the 21st -32nd pick, hopefully the last pick!!!

I agree, If he wants to play in Minnesota, likes his coach and teammates, pay him what he’s worth. But no team needs bad juju…(.i.e a Randy Moss) no matter how talented a player may be. The Vikes have a good team chemistry. Don’t want to mess that up.

Had he stayed healthy, he would have made the pro bowl!!!!

  47. By ccfan80 on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

On another note the Packers are the biggest cry babies and cheaters in football. Aaron Rodgers is the worst of them all if anything bad happens to him he looks to the ref and when the ref doesnt call anything he gets in the refs face and tries to intimidate him until he calls a penalty. The league should look at the game and seriously think of some reprocussions toward the packers. I didnt think a player could touch the red challenge flag but Jordy Nelson ran and picked up the flag trying to hide it from the ref, he should be fined for that.

    Harvin is a fool…

If Harvin would have behaved himself this season…Listened to his head coach..And just kept his big mouth shut, and played football….
Harvin would have gotten a HUGE contract extension from the Vikings this off season…Most likely 55+ million dollars…

Now, Harvin will most likely be traded…And get far less money…After causing problems here in Minnesota…I bet he only gets a contract now of about 30 million from some other NFL team ???…

    Harvin is a fool…With a bad attitude…

Well, we don’t know exactly what happened with Harvin behind the scene. Maybe he’s hurt, maybe he’s got a disagreement with the organization, probably a little of both.
What we know, however, is that he is a tremendous player and that his absence actually helped the development of the passing game for the Vikings, forcing Ponder to get out of the confort zone and target somebody else.

At this point, if there is any disagreement between Harvin and Frazier, I would expect Percy to look at what the Vikings have accomplished without him, think about what could be done with him and settle everything.

I guess the main question is to know if Percy can actually be satisfied being the second best player on an offense and not the prime star. I sure hope he can.

That’s where the coach comes into play!!! When Dennis Green was the coach here, he had control of his team, then the Vikes hired the likes of Mike Tice and Brad Childress, who never had control of their teams!!! Leslie Frazier seems to have control of this team so far, but winning cures all!!! This team was 3-13 last year and turned it around big time at 10-6 this year with average talent in some positions like WR, DB’s and LB’s!!!! That tells me that the coach knows his talent and how to utilize them to the best of there abilities!!! Another great draft like last year and the Vikes will take over the NFC North division!!!!

In a heated rivalry game like yesterday, your younger players are going to make mistakes (Loadholt). This happens. I’m sure Frazier will be in his grill about this. As for Harvin–let him go if he doesn’t want to be a Viking. There will always be someone to come in and take your place. The NFL has no second stringers. They are all starters waiting for their chance.

We took the Packers A game and survived. Next week will be tough for sure. But if you look at the history of the last several super bowl winners—all these teams get on a run. It looks like destiny. Why not us?

Ponder showed he can kick ass! a little rough on the edges on the long ball, and it would help if we had a well known deep threat!! Getting better with experience. Harvin B.S. should clear up soon, well they pay him because he wants to stay or trade him because he wants out! something has to be done with Harvin, don’t want it to turn into the R. Moss thing in the lockerroom, and I just read Harvin and Moss were really close buddies, come to think of it he wants out!

If I was Spielman…I would trade players for draft picks this off season…Harvin would be at the top of that list…Allen would be second on that list…

Unless Allen is willing to take less money…And will restructure his contract to play 2 years for that 15.2 million…Instead of just one year…Like it is set up now…

Griffen and Ballard are up and coming stars…Guion is playing okay also…

Fitzgerald is the “only” big name free agent…I would consider signing…If not Fitzgerald…Build “totally” through the draft…In all areas…imo…

excellent game by ponder. nice to see him throw an accurate deep ball! This season has been a pleasant surprise.

I think the Vikings should trade Harvin for some good additional draft picks this offseason. They could probably get a 1st and third rounder for him. Wright may not be as good as harvin right now, but he has proven he is good. He would play the slot receiver nicely as Harvins replacement and the extra draft picks would allow the Vikes to draft at lease one receiver in the first round.

Harvin’s attitude has started to stink and trading him while he still has high value might be smart.

All that said… GO VIKES! kick some GB butt!

Last week it was all Packers and Seahawks.Ponder was like a nobody to them.
Ponder, that kid played his heart out yesterday.
It was like David against Goliath meaning crybaby Rodgers.
I can’t believe I just read on this blog that Rodgers didn’t have the descency to shake Ponder’s hand after the game.
The refs definitely blew that call on the packer t.d his knee was down and the ball didn’t look like it broke the plane of the goal line.
That’s ok because the Vikes showed a lot of heart by not letting that get to them. They came back. Peterson better get the m.v.p.
Ive been a Vike fan for over 40 years. They made me proud yesterday and for my nine year old son who loves the vikes made me feel good.
Ponder prove those nay-sayers wrong. With Peterson and the Unsung Heroes- Ponder,Wright,Simpson,Jenkins,Rudolph, and the defense let’s take this team to the bowl. Go Vikes!

We are a playoff team. It’s time for the Wilfs to open up the checkbook this offseason. AD is still in his prime, our QB should have his breakout season in his 3rd year. I’ll assume at minimum we will get a 1st round next year for Harvin (writing appears to be on the wall with his time in MN)
    Draft:
    1st Round:
If we get a 10-15 pick: Dee Millner (CB)
    Any Lower: Patterson (WR)
Our pick: Patterson or Banks (CB) (contingent on first pick)
    2nd round: Minter (ILB)
    3rd round: Gabe Jackson (OG)
4th round: (from Detroit): Wreh-Wilson (CB)
    Our pick: Jordan Hill (DT)
    Free Agency:
    Dwayne Bowe (WR)
    Rodgers-Cromartie (CB)
This will be a superbowl contender for the next 5-7 years.

What I dont see you guys talking about is the “catch” Wright made after the ball bounced off the ground. Good job by the refs on that one. Also, how in the wolrd do you explain them ruling that James Jones fumbled that ball? Not in any universe was that a fumble. You guys got help from the zebras, had to play absolutely perfect, got help with some penalties by Green Bay’s DBs and still just barely won. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald publicly rebutted statements from his father that the team had “quit on its season.” Fitz was adamant that his team would “never” quit. The Cardinals are the first team in NFL history to win their first four games and then lose nine straight. The 29-year-old star was also clear about stating that he was happy in Arizona and did not want to leave by saying, “I enjoy playing for the Arizona Cardinals and I want to continue to play here and try to win.”

I’m sure deep down he’d like to be on a more stable team, and sure he is from MN and that would be a great story. But I don’t think it is even a remote possibility.

    A turnover…Is automatically reviewed…During that review process…McCarthy threw the red flag…

If the review has not yet been announced to its out come by the officials…To the outcome of said review ??…

Our brass will know when it is time to trade our veteran players. I feel we are on our way. Our youth movement is ahead of schedule already.

If Harvin wants out—-hold the door open for him. Get your draft picks and replace him. Disgruntled players bring too much drama to a team. Look for athletes with character (they are out there) and you will stay in the top tier of competitive organizations.

Thank you to the Wilfs, the coaches, the front office, the players– and everyone in the organization. Move over Green Bay– the Vikings are back and will have the title next year.

Though in the past I have thougt that Greg Jennings would not be a good fit here through FA. I am starting to retract that thought. Though he is a Packer, He has charchter. He was asked in an interview if he wanted AP to break the record. Jennings said “yes, even if it is against my team, I want him to break it yes”!!! He also showed charcter after the seattle game when they lost, though sarcasm was easy to spot. He did not piee and moan like the rest of the Fudge packers.

He also has great talent and is getting older, so Money should not be to huge of a issue with him. I think he would also come here just to get back at the team that let him slip away.

i say we might see G. Jennings in the real gold contrasting color PURPLE!!!! not snot green…

@ Purple Monster. After the first Green Bay game this year—–honestly, I did not think so. To remain our QB, he will have to stay consistent. He does need a few more pieces around him for sure. I feel next season will let us know. The coaching staff will have had more time to gel, more players will be added, the players will be more familiar with the system, etc. Kind of hard to argue with the results this year. 20 other teams are home right now. I think we are going to be there battling the Pack for supremacy for the next few years. It would be kind of cool if we could make a run in the playoffs this year. To me, all this is bonus. Keep in mind… TJack had good games too, even beat the packers a few times when they still had Farve. Doesn’t mean he was the QB of the future.. But The more Ponder plays like that, the more I will mosy on over to his corner. But still has a lot to prove in my mind.

It’s like having your wife cheat on you, and deciding to forgive her for it. Then when she goes out to the bar and comes home to tell you that she didn’t do anything with anyone else. Does she expect special recognition for doing what she should have been doing in the first place???????? Same thing goes with Ponder. Prove to me you can play consistently and I will consistently back you up. We probably wont know till next year.

Q: Can Ponder be the QB of the future???
A: If he plays like that he can be the next Tom Brady of the future!!!

In my mind he has not earned the right to be called the CLEAR starter for our football team. BUT, he defientely earned the right to stay there for now. We will see what happens next year.

Ponder showed up he did more then manage the game I give him credit for that.
I will not crown him yet its to early I need to see consistency first but if he can play like that more often it will only make us unstoppable.

If Winfield can’t go Jefferson will be in line for a long day Rodgers like attacking him and Sherels is to small.
I’ve said I believe we’re the best team in the division when we show up to play and the Packers learned that yesterday

I hope the coaches come up with a good game plan to get by the Pack. Win 2 out of 3 with them and move on in the playoffs! If that doesn’t motivate the team I don’t know what will. We will need more than AP to beat them at their place. Can’t afford youthful mistakes. Got to be smart and bring our A game for sure.

A college analyst had to say this about WR D Bowe…And I tend to agree with him…Walter thinks KC will choose a WR in this springs draft…Giving what KC might do..In the D Bowe situation this off season…He thinks KC will take a QB in the first round and ???…

    _______________

Kansas City’s new quarterback will need a new receiver if Dwayne Bowe leaves. I wouldn’t spend the money on Bowe; he’s overrated because he’s inconsistent and piles up most of his stats in garbage time. He was responsible for both of Matt Cassel’s interceptions against the Ravens.

Speed up the game and lighten up on the rules. Get rid of the referees. Have a 200 man team roster– rotate players throughout– have no time outs and 15 seconds rather than 30 seconds to get the next play off– rotate players constantly– finish the game in 2 hours rather than 3. Have fewer fines– let the players battle.

Ponder should be the starter next year hands down. 4 games ago lots of people were calling him done! Worst quarterback in the nfl! Where are the calls for Webb now? You START Ponder first game next year and if he is deteriorating after a few games you put the backup quarterback in to replace him for the rest of that game. You need to have another capable quarterback as a backup in case Ponder goes down. Seems to me you need to concentrate as much on having a quality backup to Ponder as much as you do ensuring that Ponder keeps going forward and does not regress.

Unless Ponder totally falls apart in the playoffs, you start him next year and keep the momentum going from this year. The worst thing you can do is pull the rug out from under him and desintegrate his confidence. What if Frazier had pulled Ponder in week 13?

Come on guys – we are grooming a franchise quarterback! The biggest question I had on Ponder before Sunday was “can he complete the long pass IN STRIDE”? Well he desintegrated any questions I had about that with his 65 yard completion to wright. So, does Ponder just sit back during the off season and bask in whatever it is you bask in when you get full of yourself? No. He should take a month or so off (get in a nice honeymoon etc etc), then work harder in the off season than he has ever worked before to improve on weak spots that he and the coaching staff identify by studying film.

I think the Vikings will beat the Packers next week and go deep into the playoffs. Whether they will be in the super bowl, I dont know? Regardless, this season has been a monumental success – VIKES RULE!

  196. By habs001 on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

From 3-13 to 10-6 and playoffs is a great result…In the playoffs anything can happen but lets not be fooled the Vikings talent/experience level is below most of the other playoff teams…If posters take out the Vikings as their team equation and looked at the talent/experience on the other teams in the playoffs the Vikings would be near the bottom….This is why AP has to be the mvp as i cannot recall a single player in any of the 4 major north american sports having such an influence on their team…..Key in GB will be the running game, chewing up the clock and turnovers….The Vikings secondary is just not good enough not to give up points…On pure talent vs talent the Vikings cannot win this game….that may change in 2 years….but for now error free football and some breaks are needed…

Happy New Year Minnesota Vikings. 2013 is off to a great start. Let’s win it all and hush all the national media doubters. We beat Green Bay, Chicago, San Francisco, and Houston, yet we get no respect fron NFL, FOX, NBC, CBS, or ESPN. I know they are wrong for only talking about AD’s run for history (as deserving as it was) and not talking about out defense gelling, our receivers stepping up, and the best rookie of the year, Blair Walsh. Please Vikings stop making mental errors, we can not afford 100 yards in penalties on Saturday and it would be shame if that was why our season was cut short. Glory is within our grasp, enjoy the ride.

We will truly see what Ponder is made of on Saturday– Samantha better keep tutoring him– she will tell him he could make or break his future as the Vikes QB on how he plays– if he does well, and we win, watch out. Last year, Ponder was decent in Atlanta.

  200. By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

Well, a lot of naysayers a few weeks ago. We started the season great at 5-2 and then slumped– I think partly what happened was based on two dynamics– both feeding upon the other. The team was a little giddy and got ahead of themselves– even Ponder said at that time, what sucks is we could have been 5-0. So they were a bit over confident — secondly, opposing teams were now preparing harder for us– at the start of the season, we looked like an easy W. During the slump the team played hard and the coaches and veterans worked hard– and we came through it to win our last four, including two road wins– this team has heart and chemistry. I won’t be surprised if we win a game or two in the playoffs– nor would I be surprised that we win the division next season.

  201. By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply

I just watched a dumb short segment on the playoffs– they talked about San Fran and Seattle– but no mention of the Vikings– but they did mention the Bears and Giants missing out– then the one commentator said that taught him you have to start well at the beginning of the season– what the…?? Who are these experts? Chicago was 7-1 if I recall correctly. Geesh. No respect for us.

We are a playoff team. It’s time for the Wilfs to open up the checkbook this offseason. AD is still in his prime, our QB should have his breakout season in his 3rd year. I’ll assume at minimum we will get a 1st round next year for Harvin (writing appears to be on the wall with his time in MN)

    Draft:
    1st Round:
If we get a 10-15 pick: Dee Millner (CB)
    Any Lower: Patterson (WR)
Our pick: Patterson or Banks (CB) (contingent on first pick)
    2nd round: Minter (ILB)
    3rd round: Gabe Jackson (OG)
4th round: (from Detroit): Wreh-Wilson (CB)
    Our pick: Jordan Hill (DT)
    Free Agency:
    Dwayne Bowe (WR)
    Rodgers-Cromartie (CB)
This will be a superbowl contender for the next 5-7 years.

As I have been stating all year. Be patient fans and you will be rewarded. Ponder will be successful if he has the time to grow. No matter what happens in the playoffs, this team won. They beat the analyst, the critics, and their opponents. This has been a wonderful year for them and they realize that they are a great team full of great people, not just players, but people. Frazier said it best, they are a team of high character people who have developed a great chemistry. If Percy stays he has to fit the dynamics of the team. Win or lose, this team defied the odds and came out on top. Ponder did a great job carrying the mid season criticism and then excelling when it truly matter. So he will be our franchise QB as he grows. This is his first test in the playoffs. One of many to come. Great job Vikes.

Sad to say but we will be saying goodbye to Percy, He wants to be the number 1 cog in the offence, but never will be here. Does any of this remind you of the stephon garnett situation? Steph aka Percy wants to be number 1 but he has someone a lil better in front of him, so he feigns like he is hurt so he doesn’t have to compete with our true #1 we need to trade him and get as much as we can for him, this is just my opinion, would love ad and percy to work together and built possibly one of the most explosive offences of all time.

They could put a “soft cast” on Winfield’s hand; been done before. They should be practicing outdoors for this next match-up. We can’t afford to come out of the gate and not get some points regardless if it’s on the ground or in the air. Ponder needs to be able to throw a “frozen” football and the runners need to carry around a “frozen” football as well. This is not going to be an easy game to win; much like Sunday’s game. They need to stay FOCUSED and do what they have been doing for the past 4 games. Kalil needs to block “Sister Golden Hair” better and O-Line will need to protect Ponder as long as possible is/when he needs to throw the ball. We certainly have to remain aggressive with coverage of Jennings,Nelson,Jones. Broken coverage will kill us is its not fixed. BLITZ AND BLITZ some more on “Snookie Rodgers”. Get 10 sacks instead of 5 and hopefully, get some turnovers. Ponder played well on Sunday and I hope he can play well on Saturday because I think it will require both running/passing just like Sunday to win this game. Happy New Year to all the Vikings Nation/Team. Our mission isnt quite accomplished yet. Play as ONE unit, dig deep inside yourselves. Don’t give up and continue to prove the naysayers are wrong about this team. They never have given this team the RESPECT that it so rightfully deserves. WE WILL PROVE THEM ALL WRONG come Saturday night!!! Nothing would be finer than to see GB fans/Packers crying in dismay over their loss. GOOOOOO VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A few side notes:
    – Ponder is not truly a “2nd year QB” he had no training camp last year and only played 6 games? I think? He is essentially still a rookie*
    – O.J. broke 2000 yards in 14 games. That is amazing and a greater acomplishment that Dic kerson or AP’s numbers.
    – Winfield must play if we have a chance at winning
    – Jefferson had tight coverage most of the time but took penalties or receivers made great plays. He will be targeted all day long again.
    – Special teams must play better
    – Need 5 sacks minimum.
