Adrian Peterson, Tom Brady Selected As FedEx Award Winners

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 15, 2012 – 9:41 am

The NFL announced on Friday that Patriots QB Tom Brady and Vikings RB Adrian Peterson were selected by voters as this week’s FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week for games played on December 6-10. Brady completed 21 of 35 passes for 296 yards and 4 TDs in the Patriots 42-14 win over the Houston Texans while Peterson rushed for 154 yards on 31 carries and scored 2 TDs in the Vikings 21-14 victory over the Chicago Bears.

It’s the second consecutive week and third time overall that Peterson has been honored as the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week in 2012, and it’s also the third time Brady has been so honored.

Brady and Peterson were selected from among 6 finalists in Air and Ground categories. The other FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week finalists were QBs Nick Foles (Philadelphia) and Cam Newton (Carolina), and RBs Marshawn Lynch (Seattle) and Knowshon Moreno (Denver).

Fans voted for more than their favorite players. The weekly FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards are also a win for local communities. Along with the player awards, FedEx is making a $2,000 donation in each of the winning players’ names to the local area offices of Junior Achievement in Boston and Minneapolis. The funding is used to help U.S. small business development, by educating the next generation of entrepreneurs on how to start and grow their own businesses.

During the week leading up to Super Bowl XLVII, FedEx plans to announce the 2012 FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year in New Orleans, as well as make a $25,000 donation in each winning player’s name to Junior Achievement offices in the their city.

As the Official Delivery Service Sponsor of the NFL, Super Bowl and Pro Bowl, FedEx is proud to sponsor the 10th annual Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week program. The Awards highlight superior on-field performance among the league’s top-performing quarterbacks and running backs, while supporting small business efforts and providing business solutions that matter to fans and customers alike. This is one of those trap games for us- we should be able to win, but it will be tough– how many times have we won there? Seems to me we don’t do well in their dome, but we need our veterans to step it up. Am so glad we don’t play the Texans after their thrashing by the Patriots– we know how poorly that goes.

    I agree– and Webb will fly around and win the game– and everyone will say, see, we told you, Then they will start Webb against the Texans and after the first half the Texans will have outscored us by 30 points. Webb is great as a change up, but when teams plan for him, he is about a Ponder level QB.

    @Titus,

    My good friend…What do you base your “he’s good as a changeup, but not as a starter?” Joe Webb has started only 3 games in 3 years.

    It’s like Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, and even Tom Brady. Nobody knew how good they were until they had a chance to play!!!

  65. By Frederick Jones on Dec 15, 2012 | Reply

    @Titus,

    Apparently he got in at least one play this year according to Pro football reference because they give him credit for a game.

    But keep reminding yourself that the OLines of 2010 and 2011 were FAR WORSE, than the one we have in 2012.

    GIVE JOE WEBB A CHANCE TO PLAY DUDES!!!

  66. By Frederick Jones on Dec 15, 2012 | Reply

    Ponder will probably start the rest of the games unless he gets hurt.

    But IF IT WERE JONES he would start Joe Webb.

    Even the commentators in preseason said Webb panics and sends anxiety through the whole team– the O line would not be very effective once Webb scampers all about like a giant squirrel wearing a purple, gold, and white uniform and cleats.

    Another thing, one minute you say maybe we should start Webb..

    The next tim minute you say: he scampers like a gaint squrirel!… So?

    At least Joe can make TD’s running, not like your boy Ponder!

    Would you care to name YOUR commmentators tha say otherwise?

    Bluebird, you are funny– commentators? With an s? Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth? Keep your facts in context. THAT WAS THE SAME GAME– the one game against Philly– Philly was overconfident– our team was stuck in a hotel till Tuesday– they were itching to knock heads and release some aggression after sitting in a hotel (game was supposed to be Sunday, but big snowstorm postponed it). I called that game– I knew our team was antsy after being cooped up so long– and our D played magnificently. Webb did decent– but since then, name a game even close to that performance under Webb? That was 2010.
