This is something definately needed. He was supposed to replace Jenkins as a release receiver. In 11 games active he only has 4 receptions, 51 yards and a TD. We NEED to use him more to take pressure off Harvin and Peterson. But today, non of that matters, we have niether Harvin or Burton.

It’s true our D Line has been very quiet. Their backs cut through like butter, and Cutler has “Brady Time” back there.
They have lost 2-3 starters off their O Line since the game began. Hopefully we will see more offense by the Vikings because of that.

Just in passing, don’t know if any of you noticed, but Bears last TD of 1st half, Cutler rolled back to right, his lineman was across the scrimmage line… watch this play again. He was over the line by at least a yd, and Cutler hits the TE for score… Refs missed.

A receiver’s mistakes are grossly obvious when our QB is not good enough to complete throws down-field with any consistency. Each “gem” he throws where he actually HITS the receiver is forever scrutinized because our opportunities are so few. If we had a real QB, we wouldn’t be so over-worried about the occasional drop, because we would have confidence in the next play, the next throw.

A couple drops did not make this game the horrid result it has become.
There IS a couple common denominators if the fan base wants to grasp this honestly – Musgrave calls the game, BUT he calls the gameplan based upon the talent he has.
Then, there is Christian Ponder trying to throw the ball, and he does that so badly, I don;t think I recall anyone so bad in Vikes uni… maybe that year we had Norm Snead.. maybe Gary Cuazo???
But the margin of error is so slim, I can honestly say the commitment to Ponder is and has been a mistake. Move on quickly Vikes!

Not a fan of Musgrave – actually can’t stand his officious, “don’t challenge my authority” attitude in his pressers, like the press hasn’t the pedigree to ask such questions of “His Highness”… the playcalling is also a fact of personnel!
Ponder runs that offense on the field, and we have had a year of excuse making for the guy, and a whole bunch of “remember the first 4 games of the season” as if this was really substantially wonderful achievement.
He has been average at best and most times he is quite bad…. this is what two weeks of rest and gameplanning has done for Ponder. Think about it.
3 drops doesn’t change this disaster. ANY QB needs to complete the next throw, and usually does. Ponder hit an open receiver, we shot our wad, and doubt creeps in we will do it again.

We are missing a few key piece for a winning team. Jones pointed out in pre-season that we need another 2-3 QUALITY O Linemen. It still appears that we do.
We need defensive backs. Perhaps 2 QUALITY D Backs.
What Jones did not realize is the need for D Linemen. We need a Quality DT!!!
Ponder can still develop more yet. He is missing some weapons on Offense.
You have to question the O Coordinator after this game. No excuse for not using your best players for the key PLAYS!

Our players have to make plays. NOBODY came to make a play today except AD. And I mean NO ONE. We deserved to loose that game. You have to tip your hat to Lovie Smith and his players. They all stepped up and kicked our @sses. Our game plan was bad as well,it wasen’t all about the players. We did not play to our strenghts. And we did not try take advantage of Chicagos weeknesses. We did not play aggressive football. If you are going to play soft you have to make plays and nobody could make a play.

This one was over after the settling for 3 on the first TO of the game… harbinger of a “Ponderized” game… can’t convert 7′s, can’t sustain drives, has zero pocket awareness – just watch him, he ALWAYS evacuates over the right tackle, and rarely steps UP into the pocket, and he virtually NEVER runs right to get time.
If we can’t take advantage of opponent mistakes and can’t create enough “downhill momentum” of our own, that is a QB problem. Our marginal success will be nothing but novelty on his best days.
We need a kid like Luck or Griffin… why are these FIRST YEAR kids so much better than our “QB of the future”?
Because they have talent, arm strength, pocket awareness and patience to throw in tough pass rush. Ponder has the support of a D coordinator disguised as a head coach.

Ponder was fine, drops by simpson, carlson, burton and yes rudolph in the endzone. Play calling was the difference in this one. You have 2nd and two inside the five and don’t run adrian. Frazier goes for it on 4rth down, could have cut it to two posessions, with a feild goal.
Adrian should have been a big part of the 3rd quarter but just had a few runs.
Finally, Allen Williams seems to have a serious problem on 3rd and anything.
How many long drives do I have to watch because we can’t get off the feild on third down.

Obviously you are going off Tarkenton’s remark. There is no way we see ANY quarterback for 15 years UNLESS he is a hall of fame type QB.
Joe Webb, because of his extraordinary skills, has a chance to be that type of QB. However we will never know until we give him an extended chance at it.
Ponder is not as bad as he appears, and may be a safe choice at QB. He might be a top 10 type QB down the road. But Jones does not see him as an All-Pro type. He can’t overcome a bad offense.

I believe that this team has many problems.
1. Ponder is just a good QB……will never be a GREAT QB!
2. Our “D” is not up to par with where it needs to be (Secondary). WE face 3 teams in our division that have 3 pro-bowl type QB’s. All have really nice wide-outs or at least 1 really good go-to wide-out.
3. Pass rush!?
I’m tired of being a fan of this team and this organization! I’m 42……I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. Just tired of the constant choke jobs from this team in purple!
I have a feeling that we are going to ride out and WASTE 2 or 3 years on the “Ponder Experiment” and then by that time…………A.P. and Percy will be gone or in A.P.’s case, falling off his prime!

So the 4 drops were the difference in this game when Ponder had HOW many drop backs to throw???
The interceptions??? the wild and bad throws? His missing open receivers, not seeing open receivers??? these things don’t count?
A good QB would change this pattern almost instantly – it comes in confidence players have in the QB and it manifests itself in the game and results. Can you imagine Ponder calling ANYONE out for sloppy play? He is too much a liability on his own that he can’t get guys to bring their best.
The one thing about good to great players is they make everyone around them better. How is this working for Ponder? Peterson is KILLING, and we can’t throw jack.

It is easy, the biggest reason Ponder gets (and deserves) this kind of scrutiny is that position is the singularly most important position on the offensive side of the ball, if not the entire field of play both sides.
A good player would not let a drop or two over the course of 15 to 20 throws make him fail. (or 4 drops out of 30 as it represents only maybe 1/10th at most of all pass plays – he still has nine other drop backs to make plays)
The Average to the bad of the league will suffer this always.

Not a confidence problem for Ponder…And Wright did well today…Just got a little excited on that TD pass…Ponder threw it…Wright timed it perfectly at the top of his jump…He just missed one there…Rudolf had a tougher catch….But a VERY catchable ball right in his hands…
We could use harvin back…Simpson is a lost sole right now….I have no idea about that guy…Shudo and Jenkins are where they have been all season long….Not getting any separation…I did see Jenkins open on one play…But the O-line wasn’t giving Ponder time on every down either….
Weapons for Ponder is a must…Jenkins, Burton and Shudo should have never made this teams 53 man roster…
Hope we have Harvin back for GB…And maybe start Summers and Wright next week against the Packers….

Ponder will stay the starting QB all season as long as Frazier is in charge of the team. He is committed in grooming this young QB into a star. That’s why you don’t see any Webb packages. I stated this at the beginning of the season and it is how it is. Webb is the #2 QB until the point Ponder is hurt. The rest of you need to just face up to the situation at hand. We are not going to win every game with the personel we have currently. If you can’t handle it maybe you need to re-evaluate if you are truly a Vikings fan. I sat and watched after the Walker Team lots of off and on teams and cheered on the Vikings Every game. Still do. Ponder shows a lot of promise and he may just turn into that diamond in the rough, but you have to stick with him. If you can’t do it maybe you need to find another team to cheer. For me I am in it thick and thin.

I have watched this team now for almost 45 years, so I have seen a lot of ups and downs. You can get a read on what is going on if you look at the long run and not just game to game. We are building for the future and puting the pieces together. Is that going to be tough for guys like Jared and AP you bet they just might not ever get that championship, but eventuallly in a few years I see this team getting their first superbowl. You can’t do it in a couple of years or with a single player. That’s been tried and failed here. Time to look long run. In my opinion.

The Vikings have improved from last year and will get better next year but today they had everything going for them(bye week, an opponent that played on monday in a different time zone and had their share of injuries) but came up with a poor performance…The bears ol was made to look like a group of all stars..Most of the veterans gave a shamefull performance….the Vikings wide receivers who have been in the league are interchangeable with probably 50 receivers who are in college today…

Hey guys, revenge in two weeks. A win against the bears is long overdue. I believe if Ponder plays poorly the rest of the season they seriously need to re-evaluate. Spielman said they have a three year plan for him. If they don’t draft a field-stretcher in first round and re-sign Harvin , heads will roll. Let’s let this play out to midseason next year and see what happens. What good does it do to give yourself ulcers in a rebuild year?

@ c’mon …It’s much more than just “ONE GAME”, he has demonstrated “IT” on multiple occasions this year.
Not to mention a record setting college career, that is why Harbaugh moved up in the draft to get him and that is why he is now the starting QB at S.F.
There is MUCH MORE to being a successful winning QB in this league than just managing a game, like Smith did. He had good number’s, 3rd rated in the league, but doesn’t have “IT”….
Brees, Brady, etc. have the OBVIOUS “IT” factor…
A sense of CONFIDENCE, LEADERSHIP, PRODUCTION AT THE NEEDED TIME, THE ABILITY TO PULL A WIN FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT, THE ABILITY TO COME FROM BEHIND BY 20 PLUS POINTS IN THE SECOND OR 3RD QTR. ETC.ETC…..

Ok, not going to be a whiner here like so many others, Today’s game was painful to watch due to the fact that the Bears defense killed our offensive line. Ponder had no time to throw and when he did, our receivers could not catch the ball. Period. The Bears defense won this game for them. The Vikings could never get it going. Ponder did not play badly with the exception of the Interception. He was trying to force it to get something going. People need to realize that Ponder is not the issue- it is our O-line not protecting him and giving him time to run the plays and find the open man. Our OC did a good job at having Wright and Rudolph in the mix, but agan his play calling was pathetic. No creativity or aggressivness and he could have used more of a mix in the running game as they had Peterson pretty much glued-to all day long. He still had over 100 yards, but that deosn’t help when there is no passing game downfield. So, chalk this up to the Bears defense. I think it could be a different ending when they come and play us at home. Hopefully we get Harvin back for next week. Need to re-group. I will say that I have given up on Frazier providing any spark to this team. Sorry, but after 11 games now he should be able to do more than have a blank stare and shake his head. He is like the Borg from Star Trek…So we need to split with Chicago and beat GB in order to stay in it. Tall order, but I think the Vikes can pull it off if they don’t let this game choke their attitudes…

Did it ever occur to ANY of you that the reason Musgrave can’t (DOESN’T) call the type of play’s that you want to see is that Ponder can’t even manage a simple, dumbed down game plan….THE MOST BASIC, SIMPLISTIC OF GAME PLANS?
It was much more than just the one or ten drop’s, he over throw’s short to intermediate throw’s continually, he throw’s behind back’s out of the backfield, or over throw’s them….FORGET ABOUT EVEN ATTEMPTING A DEEP OUT, OR FITTING ONE INTO A COVERED REC. ETC.
OF COURSE THIS LOSS WAS NOT SOLELY ON PONDER….THE DEFENSE WAS HORRIBLE, WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS….THE “GREAT” JARED ALLEN WAS GOING AGAINST ONE OF, IF NOT THE WORST O-LINES IN THE LEAGUE AND PULLED A MORE AND MORE COMMON DISAPPEARING ACT AND ON, AND ON…..

I hope I don’t let OTKalil or Ozzinator down with this comment- but I have waited until now to pass judgement on Frazier and I have decided that he is not dynamic enough to be a head coach. Titus is right on with his comment about Billick. The Vikes are having a hard enough time executing Musgraves plan because it is just to predictable and Frazier is not the inspiring coach to make the needed changes to fix that weakness. This is a huge issue. My take is that the offense is giving it all they have with a sub-par PREDICTABLE game plan for 90% of the season. It worked ok for a time, but the Bears had it all figured out today. I am hoping that aftre watching the film on this game they will see how the Bears D was able to change up how they went after Ponder and that was the reason the won. They did not directly go after Ponder- they went after Kalil and our other ends and then middle-upped Ponder for the pressure. SMART Defensive play… Bad response by the coaches.. That was why we lost. Had our O-line found a way to deal with that change-up then it would have been a differnent game. I was still happy to see Wright and Rudolph more involved. That was one piece they got right today. I think Audie Cole needs to make am appearence next week…. Something to inspire people again…

Nothing wrong with trying to pass the ball on 3rd and 2 or 4th and 2, but its the formation I don’t like, play action was the right way to go here, if you were going to pass. (I would still run the ball, but if you had to pass, that was not the way to do it)

In all seriousness…. Ponder has had a year and a half of starts… Kaepernick was a 2nd round pick and had a year on the bench and 2 starts and you can already tell he is much better than Ponder ever can or will be.
Ponder was just a total miss. It was a reach. We should consider trading for Alex Smith since that is Ponder’s absolute ceiling of talent so we might as well have Alex Smith now than wait for Ponder to develop into him.

Have you seen what Bill O brien has done with Penn States qb and entire offense, it’s unbelievable. The man took over a team in dissaray with a below average qb(who has thrown for over 3000 yds this season) with most of there talent transferring to other schools , HE IS A BEAST . The vikings coaching staff is a joke that lacks intensity ,passion, and attention to detail . Would you want to play for Frazier and company,, They don’t either,,,,,,,,,,,,

I hope they will start Webb, go back in time and get Montana or Elway, the Vikings are so bad you cant evaluate a qb. See below.
-First drive ruined due to a sack from a guard getting whipped no stunt or blitz
-Second drive Simpson ends by dropping perfectly thrown ball
-Third drive AP fumbles
-4th drive 3rd down and 9 completion for 8 yards. Ran a screen to Simpson on 1st down only gains 1 yard in one on one situation. After this drive Chicago went on a 7:59 second drive.
Game was over before Ponder had a chance to blink and not sure how anybody puts the first 4 drives on Ponder. After that your now forced to become one dimensional verses the Bears. Rodgers can’t even do that. Vikings must improve on Defense, desperately need a real WR (see Marshall), and another gaurd that can pass protect, before this is a playoff team.

This was a terrbile game to watch. The Vikings were significantly out coached. It was a terrible game plan too. AP needed 30 carries today. The wide outs were horrific, especailly Simpson. None of the WR’s for Vikings belong in the NFL. I assume the team is out of cash and cannot pay top talent. Ponder does not handle adversity well. Maybe in time, but I doubt it. Leadership at QB is a must, and so far I really dont see it with Ponder. When Percy is out, the team is lost. The team appeared tired. Coming off a win and a bye week, this was totally unexpected. Frezier may need to shake things up a bit and bring in a consultant to help with game plans….. Musgrave appears too stubborn to change. Everything to play for today…..no fire.

Well some of the poorest Vikings football I have seen in a long time on Sunday. The passing game was horrifying to watch, the defense did everything they could I think, but when the offense doesn’t produce it usually leads to a lack of production on defense. The one good thing I think we can take away was Adrian Peterson, who to nobody’s surprise had a good game, despite the obviousness of the Vikings game plan. While I wish the defense could have held them to zero, I still question the offense when placing blame for the loss. That being said, with the obvious lack of production in the passing game most likely at fault for lack of offensive production, what do you think the Vikings coaching staff will be looking to do to correct that situation in the next week. I personally feel like a change in QB is needed, however I do not have the same opportunity the coaches do in watching weekly practices and such.

I agree that Colin Kaepernick is fantastic, and we could have selected him with # 12 overall…and same with Andy Dalton. 2011 was a good QB class.
I’m still Undecided on Ponder…don’t think the Verdict is out on him yet.
I’m confident that Speilman and Co. will continually evaluate and perhaps bring in a Colin Kaepernick for our Alex Smith if needed in the years to come.

You are correct sir…the team lost the game, not Ponder alone.
The radio programs focus on the owners, coaches, wide receivers, and qbs.
But they are missing the big picture.
There are a lot of areas where we played badly today.
Defensive Line.

This was a team loss, the team sucked. the D sucked, Simpson sucked, Ponder sucked, D line sucked, O-line sucked, recievers can’t catch, Ponder missed at least 7 WIDE open recievers including J. Wright, M. Jenkins, K. Rudolf… the list goes one. AP is still a beast but we didn’t give him any help in the beginging… OH YEAH, the play calling sucked! Hmmm I have an idea, 3rd and 2 from the 8… pass yep, lets pass.. hmmm 4th and 2 from the 8, well pass didn’t work, so lets pass. Oh wait you mean to tell me we have to best RB in the NFL and we passed twice… NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I don’t believe it.

This team after yesterdays loss, with all of our short comings…??? No, this is not a playoff team. If somehow magically we did make it to the playoffs, we would lose first round. We don’t have the caliber of players to be there, at least not yet. There is a small group of players on our team that deserve it and would play great if they went. But the majority would not be able to stand up with some of the NFLs most elite.
I still think 9-7 is possible, not playoff caliber, but possible. Packers look terrible, Like really bad, worse then us in fact. That is a game I think we can win.

Since when was Tarkenton a future teller Titus? If he’s so good at telling the future ask him when will I finally get to witness my Vikings win a superbowl because I’ve waited long enough. A lot of people support Ponder only because of his MBA, that don’t cut it in football i can name more then 15 quarterbacks who had great careers in the NFL without an MBA or a high IQ score.
