Vikings Return To Work Monday, Begin On-Field Preparation For Seattle

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 29, 2012 – 6:17 am

The disadvantage to playing on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football is that you must quickly move on from a Sunday game and prepare for a Thursday game in a manner of 72 hours. The advantage to playing on Thursday night is you get a few extra days over the ensuing weekend to A)recover from the previous two games over four days, and B) prepare for the next opponent.

The Vikings have moved on to the “B” part of the advantage. After licking their wounds from a Thursday night loss to Tampa Bay, the Vikings will return to work on Monday and begin on-field preparations for their game this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. The Vikings will hold a mid-morning practice at Winter Park on Monday, have their customary day off on Tuesday, and then resume a normal practice schedule on Wednesday-Saturday before flying to Seattle on Saturday afternoon.

Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier will meet with reporters after Monday morning’s practice at approximately 11:15 a.m., and we’ll of course have that for you on vikings.com. So stay tuned for that as well as other updates today and throughout the week.

They better put in some extra time installing some new plays in the passing game!

  2. By Muskyfever on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

I am not sure new plays for the passing game is going to matter… Their shortest corner is 6’2″ that is bigger than Cook, and that is their shortest. I look for this to be a low scoring game, but I think we are going to get out clocks cleaned in this one. SEA 17 —VIKES 10. I think both Seattle TD’s will come from the D unfortenatly

I see AP and Harvin both having big games, but I think turnovers in the Redzone are going to kill us this week. That is my prediction. IO hope I’m wrong. Would love for Ponder and O line to finally find a weakness in the REdiciulous SEA secondary.. Which is the best in the league right now

Ponder has got to keep his game simple as he did earlier in the season and rely on his running game and throw to his TE’s, running backs and of course, Percy!!!

    @Muskyfever
I’ll give you the fact that Seattle has a good defense, but this team is 4-4 and should be 3-5, thanks to the refs in the Green Bay game!!! Have faith in your team!! I see the Vikes playing the type of game that they did against San Fran. Minny 23- Seattle 14

@61, Ponder also needs to consider running when is chased out of the pocket. I’ve noticed ever since the td run up the middle against San Francisco, he seems more willing to run up the middle, and has stoped running out on the sides.

Past few games he has rolled out of the pocket, tried to lob the ball and is getting intercepted. Tuck it and run, even if you don’t get the first, it will pull those corners up.

Running Game – Running Game – Running Game……….I should not have to say it again.

We’ve beat some pretty good teams this year and lost to some very average teams!! Eliminate the turnovers and play more consistent ball!!! Keep the game simple for your 2nd year QB and allow your running game to open up your short passing game!! Go Vikes!!!

    Next 4 games…

    1. @ Seattle…Grass field…
    2. Lions at home…
    3. @ Bears…Grass field…
    4 @ Packers…Grass field…

Blame Ponder,Musgrave,Frazier,O-line,etc, all you want…But the Vikings as a TEAM, do NOT play well AWAY, or on GRASS fields…

I plan on cheering for my Vikings…No matter what the outcome…Because the Vikings as a TEAM will have their work cut out for them the rest of this season…Especially the next 4 games !!!…

If Vikings lose to the Seahawks, Frazier can blame it on Musgraves, AND
Hurricane Sandy. The other side of the country will have nothing to do with it.

    Seattle – 24—Musgrave – 6

This feels like a game, that will come down to a field goal try for the win…With 4 seconds left in the game…

Will it be AIR BLAIR making that field goal try ????????…

Final score prediction 17-14….Not sure who wins ???…

What are you talking about Vlad? Didn’t watch the game to the end? Didn’t see the hurry up offense?

I would say give Ponder the chance to move around as he wants… Do it like this… 50-70 % playcalling by Musgrave and 30-50 % playcalling by Ponder. He has to develope the feeling for Blitzes so start ver there. In the end it’s just an idea.

Vikings defense will need to blitz in this game…

Like I said earlier…I expect the front 4 on defense to have trouble on grass, getting to young QB Wilson…

But Wilson is a fast little bugger…Not the best idea taking chances of him getting outside…

I bring the blitz from outside of Robison and Allen…But I would blitz…And often…

Let QB Wilson test our CB’s with Cook being out…I think we can hold up there…Sherels in a great little tackler…And think AJ Jefferson can do his job…And Robinson is doing well also…

Go after Wilson !!!…Create turnovers !!!…

We cannot trust in Ponder. The Vikings have to be, who they truly are and place their faith, in the Cyborg known as All Day Adrian Peterson and No Mercy Percy Harvin. Just Let those 2 run the offense. Do that and the Vikings should be fine.

Every game we have won this year ,we have gotten a fast start scoring first, games we have lost we have started out 3 and out 3 and out,Our offense seems to be so predictable, seems like other teams are figuring out our game plan quite easily,I feel like were just stuck at such mediocre play calling, where is the short pass, and where has Rudolph gone?Guess there are only two players to cover PERCY AND RUDOLPH,that part of our problem, hopefully this offense wakes up and can control time of possession, and we have to stop turn overs they are killing us,Defense cannot be on the field 15 minutes longer than opposing team,We have alot of issues to FIX, and hopefully soon,Against Seattle we will have to dominate the run game, follow SanFrans game plan ,Seattle seems to wear out in second half against a good run offense ,so there is our game plan, run the ball and wear them out……..and NO TURNOVERS

You gotta figure the `Hawks will come out and try to pound away with Lynch. We need to shore up what had been a very good run defense. If we can put the brakes on Seattles running game, put `em in some long yardage situations, then we can harass the rookie Q.B. Hopefully, we can get a few sacks, and maybe some turnovers. On the flipside,we will also slug it out with A.P.between the tackles. Should be able to set up some play-action to take a few shots downfield. Vikings 24- `Hawks 20. Skol!

  23. By OTKalil2012 on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

There are 2 weapons the Vikings could use against the Seahawks they would not be prepared for…

Adding a VERY fresh set of RB legs in the back field in Gerhart to help AP pound the running game at Seattle…

Another is…The Vikings have NOT tried one trick play yet this season ??????????????????????…NOT ONE !!!… : /

Give special teams a chance at a fake punt…Or an onside kick…

How about Harvin rolling out on a running play after a Ponder hand off…Plant his feet and throw the ball DEEP to Rudolf standing in the end zone ???…

Offenses need to get creative against very good defenses…Especially very good defenses playing at home…

The quickest way to divide a locker room…Is to change QB’s mid season…

Then after a head coach finally does give in to foolish fan pressure…And that second QB fails miserably (like Webb would)…Then when all heck breaks loose all over the team…

What do “fair weather fans” do next…Blame the head coach, and asking for his head on the chopping block…

What are fans going to ask for next…More Drama, maybe have Cook back in strip clubs ???…Love boat tours ???…

Cheer for your team…Quit pointing fingers of “blame” in every direction…

It’s CRUNCH time in the Vikings tough half of their schedule…Any changes that needed to be made…Have been made to the best ability of the head coaches in charge right now…

So fans need to just sit back…And ride out the storm, and see what happens ???…Ready or not…Here it comes… : /

“Trading for an outside receiver or picking one up off the street is not the answer, in my opinion. If Bowe or Steve Smith or whoever is out there that people want the Vikings to trade for were the answer, then their teams would be better at moving the ball down the field. Kansas City has the NFL’s 29th ranked passing offense, so it’s not like Bowe is the ultimate key to unlocking a great passing game.” That’s about the most foolish thing I’ve ever heard you say.

Seriously, Mike? You’re actually going to try and make us swallow that?

We’ve got Percy Harvin…..you’ve heard of him, right? The Vikings are #26 in passing offense. You can’t tell me that any other team wouldn’t SNAP him up if we went insane and decided to trade him….oh, nooooooooo….they would pass on him because “obviously Percy Harvin isn’t doing anything to make Minnesota better at moving the ball down the field.”

The other receivers have had 8 games…..12 if you count pre-season…..to become better at getting open. Hasn’t happened. Ponder starts scrambling and most of them look like the little plastic guys on the electric football game when you turn it on.

The fact that “those other teams are having difficulty moving the ball down the field” doesn’t negate the fact that Bowe or Smith are top tier receivers (same as the fact that because we are #26 in passing offense doesn’t mean that Harvin is stinking up the field), and adding one of them to the Percy Harvin Show would pay off just about immediately.

Being the hardline defender of Ponder that I am. I would have to say that comparing Sanchez to Ponder is a pretty bad argument.
    WRs Sanchez has had:
Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Plaxico Burress, and now Stephen Hill.
    Wrs Ponder has had:
    Harvin, Jenkins, Aromashodou, and Simpson
Yeah Ponder has 1 target that call play at an elite level. While Sanchez continues to get weapon around him. Yeah Edwaeds and Burres are gone and Holmes is now injured but Hill is better than Jenkins, Aromashodou, and what we have seen from 7 catch Simpson.

What ever happened to a quick on-side kick after making a TD? Other teams have tried it it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Called a Trick Play.

Are you guys kidding me? Shawn aka Spencer, or whoever these turds are.. Are you saying Romo is better than Ponder? Are you saying Andy Dalton is better than Ponder? Are you saying Stafford is better than Ponder? Are you saying Jay Cutler is better than Ponder? Are you saying Cam Newton is better than Ponder? LOL! Ponder has better stats then all of these QB since game 1. Romo has the highest INT in NFL. He is going to break Brett Favre’s record in INT in NFL History. Ponder will never get as high INTS as Romo. I’ve watched Romo, he throws like a turd QB. Jay Culter blames his Offense Linemen like it is their fault for his mistake, actually it is Jay’s fault because he sucks just like he was when he was in Broncos. Stafford, the Lions QB, he couldn’t even throw, he continue to have INT every game. Andy Dalton, keep getting bench during the game when he play bad. Cam Newton, first round PICK WOW a TOP 10 QB like you said, is the worst QB in NFL and he will never success like every analayst think he will. Andrew Luck is suffering the same conquences as every first round pick QB. Robert Griffin is not as good as you think, just because he ran 60 some yards against us for a touchdown has nothing to do with Ponder, it has to do with our defense. Every other teams got him when he tried to run and look at him? He couldn’t even beat a easy team like the Lions last night. Griffin sucks just like every first round pick. Now all the popular names up above is having trouble throwing the ball because the defense is fast and they are smarter than they were 10 years ago. Brees is having some struggles its not Bree’s fault. THere is every reason for the mistake, for the struggles and nobody is perfect. You can’t compare him of him being perfections. I bet you both, Spencer and Shawn are the worst QB and you shouldn’t be judging him in the first place. I am a former QB and it is a hard position to be in. Alot of responsiblity, alot of stress and worrying about what is gonna happen around me when I plan to throw. I’ve got MCL, ACL on my right knee from one bad mistake that my O-Line made and end my career due to injury. Dont tell me you know what you are talking about because you obviously DON’T!!!

Ponder does not have an elite OFFENSE LINEMAN. NONE. Number 1. Matt Kalil is not all that good like we thought he is. He is an average, not that its his fault because he is a rookie. Charlie Johnson, omg, the worst linemen I’ve ever seen but hes still better than Brandon Fusco. John Sullivan, the Center, he has snapping problems, he has problem pass blocking. He can’t block a Nose Tackle, he is too small. Phil Loadholt is having problem reading blocks. He missed alot of blocks. I would trade Phil Loadholt, Charlie Johnson for a WR and DRAFT 1st round RT and RG.

Minnesota Vikings: A run for the Playoffs?
After losing the last 2 games in an ugly fashion many fans have started to criticize Christian Ponder, our starting QB, to be at fault. Somehow I have to agree with them, because Ponder simply played OK at best. But is it only his fault or are there any other major factors contributing to the loses?
Everybody knows that we don’t have the best receiving corps, maybe one of the worst. Most of the time nobody is open and it doesn’t help if you drop easy p4sses. Heck, your job is to catch everything thrown to you. It doesn’t matter if the throws are ugly or beautiful. Just catch the ____ ball! By the way Percy Harvin gets double and triple teamed on nearly every single play. Maybe the playcalling is to predictable. Maybe our Receivers lack “elite” talent (everybody playing in the NFL is talented) to get the much needed seperation. Maybe the team is affected by the hype of the last few weeks. Who knows?

  87. By Parkway on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

Keenan Allen is the best looking one and I agree he doesn’t look like the next coming of megatron by any means. That’s why, like I said before, our scouts need to be telling Spielman that and that is why you go get Dwayne Bowe or someone who can contribute now because we don’t need another “upside” WR project. We need someone now.

  88. By Matthias on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

Let’s move on to another area of concern. What the ____ happened to our Oline? Christian must feel like Justin Bieber surrounded by a group of girls hitting puberty, but with nobody protecting him. Well not everybody is playing badly, but in the end everything is reflected on the group and this group is playing poorly right now.
A.D.is A.D. and Gerhart starts to play better. Good blocking by the way.
Defense… Defense… Defense… Is it just me or do I only see the Defense on the field? Is that an excuse for their bad play in the first half? No, absolutely not. Our run-D has to do better job, easy as that. And what the____ happened to the tackling? Missed tackles everywhere! At some point I wanted to throw stuff at the TV…
Bad play by the Special Teams as well. So frustrating…

  89. By Matthias on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

Overall I am disappointed by the ludicrous play over the last 3 weeks. But in the end nobody would have thought that we would have a chance for the playoffs, right? I really hope that this team gets all the things together to go to the playoffs. To be honest… Beating the Packers would be like going to the Superbowl.
This team showed that they are able to beat every team and this season every team is a little bit shaky. This might be the chance for a big surprise comeback. The team has to play better though to make it happen. Stay optimistic Viking fans and support your team no matter what. Skol!

LarsonFamiliy : Stats mean nothing, in determining, if your a good QB or not. Also, ponder’s stats are a lie. First off, in his first 5 games. The reason his stats look better, then they should be, is because a few throws in each of those games were thrown right to the defender and the defender simply dropped it. 2. Most of his throws have been short dump offs to a receiver (mostly Percy Harvin), or AP running like the mad man that he is.3. The defense had been playing staler ball, for the most part. most of the time, it doesn’t take long, to determine, if a QB has what it takes to be great or not. There are exceptions to every rule, but we’ve seen nothing to show, that he can be a great QB in this league. If I were to compare Ponder to a QB right now. I’d have to go with Alex Smith. Ponder is just an average QB at best, that can only be a game manager. He cant be depended to win it, if the Vikings get into a shoot out type situation, where they need him to win the game. With Ponder, the Vikings can only win, by letting Peterson and Harvin run the ball.

Ponder is a great QB. I know the game shows that he looks like he is not but you have to remember what caused that to make him look like that? You forget the people around him. You need OFFENSE LINEMEN to protect him otherwise of course it is going to make him look bad. Thats what O-LINE represent is for. They get awards for protecting their QB and if they dont, they wont get one.

SOMETHING needs to be done with Webb. If that means trade him so be it, but not for less than a 4th round which I doubt we could even get since he’s a backup that no one has seen much of. Let him return punts, kickoffs, anything. Have him run the triple option with harvin and peterson in the backfield. It’s a waste of talent to have him be the backup QB.

Your media would appear free, but would secreetly be controlled by one person and his family. You could wiretap phones. You could torture foreign prisoners. You could have rigged elections. You could lie about why you go to war. You could fill your prisons with one particular racial group, and no one would complain. You could use the media to scare the people into supporting policies that are against their interests.” – General Aladeen

You are a pawn and tool of powers you are so ignorant of– at the end, the revolution will collapse and you will be controlled by them. AT least now, if you stop whining and blaming — and put that energy into becoming financially literate and slowly start saving and investing, you will become wealthy. Then, with your wealth you can help others and enjoy the good life. But NO, you want to remain a tool.

@ LarsonFamily quote from “LarsonFamily” “Shawn/Spencer, same person. You are the one that comes in here and create make up stories, a unknown football expereince by judging Ponder about how bad he is when it is not his fault. You have no QB expereince you can’t judge him period. I was a former QB and it is easy for me to judge him. The answer is it is not him! Our OLine needs to revamp!! They stinks!” quote generated by “LarsonFamily”

I understand that this does not include me.. But I have jump in on this because of how asinine this comment is.

So because you were a QB you have the “right” and the “privalage” to judge Ponder? but the other guys who never played QB don’t? REALLY? you can’t be this F**king stupid…. So I am going to guess that you were never the President of the United states… (just a hunch) That being said apparently… by your logic….. you have no “right”, “privelage” or otherwise to judge either Presidential canidate to find who would best suit our country? Cause if you never played the postition then you must not know and thus should not be allowed to question anything that they do or don’t do. Just like Fans of the same team you are a fan of, that they have no right to express their opinion or pass judgement based on what they see through “THEIR” eyes? Personally I think if someone wants to judge FOR ANY REASON!!!!! they have a right to do so under the consitution of the United states, and being that this is a free country. But according to your logic, non of us should be on here blogging about what we thing cause I GARUNTEE you that no one on here played every position on the football field. Next time, think before you type stuff, you look like a complete D-BAG.

You know your an Idiot right???

Oh and Ponder is not and never will be a franchise QB. What U see is what U get with him……this year, next year, whenever. Webb could manage just like Ponder AND be a running weapon….so why not use him. He is being wasted which is a disgrace (for not using ALL resources you have).

Just like Charles Barkley says, this is just like a car stereo, ya base and ya got terrible and this is just terrible.

  216. By Muskyfever on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

@ LarsonFamily – I however did play QB through High school, I also played FS and WR.

I think (from a QB perspective) that Ponder is not even close to being a good QB. I have said that I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and let him play through this and next year before I pass judgment.

But at this point… His stats are a lie, 76% completion after 4 games. Not one pass over 20yrds… My coach would have benched me and you… This season. 4 plays over 20yrds and non over 50 yrds. Has thrown almost 2 INT’s every game since week 5. You can see if his eyes that he is scared. I see terror and fright when I look at Ponder. I dd NOT see confidence at all. He looks like he is just trying to get off the field. And that has only been the last 2 or 3 games… not all the time. I would take (at this point) almost every QB that you noted above Ponder. Dalton got benched?? sounds like his coach is trying to light a fire under his arse, but NOOOOO Frazier seems to coddle Ponder like a child.

Have you read some of his answers on the “Frazier Ponder” quotes. GENERIC..!!!!!! Seems as if he is not even sure what to say half the time.

Is the losses all Ponders Fault??? No, OK your right I’ll give you that, but it is not Just the Oline sucking (which they actually dont) 5th in the league for sacks allowed.. OUt of how many.. Oh that’s right 32 teams. not that bad their buddy… Receivers can’t get open (except Harvin, hes a beast) And Ap is taking the pressure off Ponder by running it. I think the comparison between Sanchez and Ponder are pretty right on! Both hide their lack of talent behind the Defenses. Both have one good receiver to throw too and the rest are chum. Both have a defensive head coach, Difference… SANCHEZ went to the AFC championship TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Granted Ponder has barley played a full season. There are some mistakes that he makes that I say…OK “fine a rookie can makes and will make some of those mistakes”

Then there are some things that he does… EVEN under pressure I didn’t do in high school when I played…???? You can’t tell me that everything he does on the field that you (if you were in his shoes) would also do? No, because if you really were a QB at one point in your life you know that certain things just don’t go that way and you just don’t force that throw!!!!!

As a QB you should know that some of what Ponder does is Elementary. Missing swing bubble screens and over throwing p@sses that are less then 6yrds away. Rookies do make some of these mistakes, but not at this frequency.

Is Ponder the guy for the Vikings in the long haul… IDK, but I do know that he has a lot of catching up to do and a lot of stuff to prove to me and most of the rest of the fan base if he expects us to trust him. Right now I see the same developmental process going with Ponder as I did with T-jack, who is no better than a back up in this league. Ponder has till next season to step it up.. That’s three seasons, if he still needs help, its time to say Good Bye

I aggree with missed the boat above that if we get behind lets throw Webb in. I look at it this way, we loose next game then pretty much can write off playoffs as I don’t expect we will do anything but maybe split with Chic and GB, Lions ?, Rams we SHOULD win but in Stl (will be at that game). And the Texans will prolly mash us.

    Auto, Missed Boat .

That is what I think, but it will NEVER happen. Frazier will let the score run to 90 points for Seattle before he will even admit Webb could be useful in fighting back.

  226. By missed the boat on Oct 29, 2012 | Reply

than we need to get rid of Frazier, because i don’t plan on watching Ponder bleeding off losses for the next 15 years. Ponder couldn’t take us to a superbowl even with a #1 defense!

I know that after 18 games it’s not fair to judge C. Ponder, So what do we make of A.Luck after 7 games, with a winning record. There is no doubt in anyone who has been around football over 40 years, that we can see every week what kind of progress the QB is making. Ponder started out looking so much more confident, and was being the team leader that he has to be. And after 4 games he was getting all this attention about how good he was playing, getting interviews every week, and maybe getting caught up in his press. But in the last 4 games He has made the same type of mistakes as a Rookie last year, Does not drop back and fire the ball with any confidence, and when the rush is on, he is not making quick decesions, throw it away, or run. At first it looked like the games slowed down for him, and he was getting it. But time will tell. Please C. Ponder, there are Hundreds of Thousands of Vikings Fans across this Country that watch you play every week. We are dieing for you to be the QB for the Future. We want to embrace you, and in return we will have your back. Minnesota Fan’s can be brutal when your not playing well, and you continue not to play well. And once they give up on you, that’s it. Your to smart to let that happen, Play Football. Anyone know where that shirt L. Frazier was wearing can be obtained. Gray long sleeve with Viiking in middle, Purple name below that. NFL logo on one sleeve, and nike logo on the other. Thanks Go Vikes.
