Upcoming Back-To-Back Home Games Provide Bounce Back Opportunity
Posted by on October 15, 2012 – 6:14 amAfter each of the Vikings four wins so far this season, Head Coach Leslie Frazier insisted his team keep their focus centered on preparing for the next challenge rather than basking in the glory of victory.
It only makes sense, then, that after his team’s loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Frazier was just as adamant that his team turn their focus to preparing for next Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, rather than anguishing in the misery of the 38-26 defeat.
The Vikings must take ownership of their most recent loss, but it’s also true that this most recent loss does not define the Vikings. Frazier’s team has proven tough to defeat so far in 2012, and that was the case once again on Sunday. But Washington found a way to do it.
Now the Vikings must find a way to bounce back. The opportunity will be there. After opening the first quarter of the season 3-1, the Vikings now sit at 4-2 overall after going 1-1 to begin the second quarter of the season. The Vikings will play two home games in a matter of four days next week, hosting the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following Thursday night. If the Vikings, who are 3-0 at home this season, hold serve at home over the next 10 days, they’ll do in the second quarter of the season what they did in the first quarter – go 3-1.
That will give the Vikings a 6-2 record after half the season, not a bad place to be in the rough and tough NFC North and the very deep NFC. Off this most recent loss, though, Vikings coaches and players will be the first to acknowledge there are improvements that must be made before the next game.
Those improvements will begin in earnest this week.

These are two winnable games for the Vikes.
Maybe a little imagination by the offensive coordinator will get us to 6 and 2.
By David Plowman on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
it is bad when you get beat on the field but getting outcoached there is no excuse for it. The vikings coaches did not adjust well and if they continue to do the same playcalling as they did on Sunday the homestand will be 0-2 and a 4-4 record. Also what do you think now about not having a deep threat receiver? Maybe after this coaching staff and GM are gone that will be addressed.
By Mike Wobschall on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
Offensive coordinator is not to blame. Vikings scored 26 points on Sunday, had 421 yards of offense, 27 first dows, etc. Will be helpful when Jerome come back…hopefully that’s soon.

Simpson returning is a plus, but he is not enough.
Does Pnder have the authority to over rule the play calling from the O.C.?
I know he has the brains but can he audible when he sees 8 in the box and there is a run play called?
This conservative play calling has been in our system since the Dennis Green debacle against the Falcons in 1998.

I’m gone say it like this, seem like the vikings do good at getting dwnfield.. but when we get to the redzone our play calln gets slowed down… and we tke percy and harvin out…. I think we need to work on our play calling in the redzone more then anything… and rather or not jerome simpson be back or not we still need to sign a reciever before the next game… Plaxico burress is a good redzone guy and we have redzone problems so why not sign him at this point and then we wuld have plaxico, harvin, and simpson as starters. And then we will have a decent bkup group,. Jenkins aromashadu and jarius wright… I think we should release burton cus he never show up on the stats sheet….
And start rhette ellison over john carlson…. and at goaline opperrtunities. Y nt run gb sneaks or give it to felton up the gut…

We can’t just sit back and “wait” for Jerome Simpson to get better…
This team is full of talent…EXCEPT at WR…
Vikings have 9 draft picks for this coming spring draft…
This young team does not have room for 9 new players on this talented team…Maybe 4 to 5 ???…And 2 of those positions should be used to get WR help…
Point is…Why WAIT ???…
Spielman should make a trade now for a WR…Harvin needs help !!!…He is not going to hold up under being the ONLY person to throw too !!!…
What is this team going to do…Wait until Harvin is beaten into the ground…THEN go find another receiver ???…
Simpson will be guess work the rest of the season…If he can
Again…Why WAIT finding Ponder another weapon at the WR position….Jenkins and Aromashudo are NOT getting any separation…Against TERRIBLE defenses !!!…
The problem is so OBIVIOUS…Why not make a trade ???…

Stop beating your head against the wall.
I have been saying that we need a big time down field number one WR since
August. But someone in management thinks Harvin is enough with the 2nd rate WR’s we have.
I watched Sydney Rice and Randy Moss each catch ball for over 50 yards yesterday. I am not saying that they belong on our team, but we need a guy who can go down the field and catch a 50 yarder.

OT kalil2012., Aromashudu & jenkins are doing a decent job. But time after time we let burton be active and he does not show up on the stat sheet. Why everygame we have Jarius wright inactive. He has the speed to separate hsself frm recievers,. I think if we get Aromashadu to go deep more often I think we can… how about this tho for u vikings fans,
How about the vikings trade their 2nd round pick and John carlson for Dwane bowe or Mike wallace…

Well dwane Bowe wants out of kasas city, I’m sure that the wouldn’t mind trading him for 2 draft picks or 1 draft pick and a good player.
And next year I think that our 2 biggest needs in the draft is a WR and a hard good fast hard hitting linebacker or a shut down corner that’s very physical .. but if we sign trade for a reciever nw all we have to worry about next year is Oline and on Defense. And mayb 1 more reciever like colbi hamilton

And if we get that deal done with Bowe. I think nexxt year in the draft we should trade down and select Manta Te’o. Because the long run Rg3 ran I think Te”o would’ve stuffed him on tht play… that was on our defense that play

Ponder was 35-52 yesterday…352 yards…
Jenkins had 6 catches like 67 yards and a TD…(huge day for him)…Average across the league…
Aromashudo had one catch for 13 yards…(average for him)…Ridiculously below average across the league…
Burton had zero catches…That is just Burton…
Ponder was throwing all over the yard yesterday…And the WR’s outside of Harvin, had 80 yards and one TD of Ponders 352 total passing stats…
That is a HUGE day Jenkins and Aromashudo as a duo at WR…
There average per game is much less…
These kind of WR stats are not…”okay”…They pretty much stink…

Everyone relax, the Vikings played well, true the coaches reverted to their old ways once more, the Vikings are 4-2 and have the talent to have a winning season if the Vikings coaches can prove they can think and chew gum at the same time. The Redskins are a good team, so I give them the credit for the win, they will be contenders this year, and do not over look the Seahawks this year. I will be happy with a winning record of 10-6; it would be a dream to be 2-0 over the Packers this year, and by what I have seen, very achievable. Go Vikings.

Our defense is good in covergae.. right when we get the coverage down packed that’s when rg3 run because noone is open… its not the cornerbacks fault…. Put Jarius wright in the slot, and percy and simpson on the outside and there u go,
Jarius wright-7catches for 89 yards 2tds
Percy harvin 12 catches for 125 and 1td and 5rushes for 47yards and 1td
Jerome Simpson -9 catches for 107 yard
Those are my predictions next game..
And I also think we need to make sum improvement on our playcalling on offense…
I think we should go to a 3-4 defense.
Jared allen -right defensive end
Kevin williams -nose tackle
Brian robinson-left defensive end
Everson griffen-right outside linebacker
Erin henderson inside linebacker
Jasper brinkley inside linebacker
Chad greenway leftoutside linebacker

The problem is predictability on offense when Peterson is in the game. Defenses automatically put 8 or 9 in the box. Watched that several times in yesterday’s game. When Gerhart is in they back off. We are missing a critical part of the Offense here to keep opposing offenses honest, a WR that can get open and run to the house at any play. Simpson might be that guy, but we need to get another if Simpson can’t play. The OL was also having problems with Washington’s Defense there was a lot of defenders in the back field with Ponder running to make plays.

I also noticed that on the p@sses RG3 was making it was in those soft middle area. The same area they were p@ssing in all last season. I think RG3 had our Defense confused and some of the old mistakes came to play yesterday.

This is the key to any game for us, FINISH drives with TD’s!! Have to move forward, next 2 games are very winnable for us, and their QB’s are not nearly as mobile as RG3.

I think yesterday exposed the youth of this team. Being on the road in a hostile environment is no easy task to overcome in the NFL and the Vikes got rattled in the second qtr and never fully got beyond it. Ponder showed he still has some nervous jitters when the heat is turned up and what about the defensive secondary. Receivers where flying around the field wide open…reminded me of last years secondary. Reality may be setting in for this team….it takes more than a little talent to win on the road in the NFL. It takes great coaching a steel nerves like the Giants displayed yesterday in dismantling the 49ers. Maybe this team will start getting there before the season is up because that final 6 game stretch is going to be brutal if they dont.

Just a thought, but I think we ought to use Rudolph like we used to use Kleinsasser. Not sure if you remember, but he was our leading receiver at one point. Rudolph was open a number of times yesterday in the middle with room to rumble. We have got to mix it up. We need to look downfield more. I agree- throw Wright into the mix.

What I am saying Wobs, is that many do not agree with your take on Musgrave. Yes, we had a lot of good offense yesterday, but when it came to the plays that would turn the game, the play-calling was sub-par and PREDICTABLE. Kinda like getting a triple on a par-3… 4 red-zone Field goals in a row the first half???
By Parkway on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
@Trout, Wobby, basically everyone else. Yeah sure we had 26 points, half of that came at the end with the Redskins using our same “bend don’t break” defense. So those are garbage points. If we had the play calling to get us 21-0 instead of 9-0, the skins would have been demoralized and wouldn’t have even had a chance of getting back in the game.

I figured all it would take be a loss at Washington to get all of you negative Nancy attitudes back on here. Everyone said the team would be terrible anyway so I really don’t get everyones attitudes. They will be 6-2 after the Tampa game and will be 7-3 at the bye week. They are fine, RG111 is a stud! But the Viks kept coming back, and thats a testiment to the teams character. Nothing to mad about being 4-2.
By Parkway on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
Last year our defense was at the bottom of the league. We have nearly the same talent this year with a few upgrades and now we are a top ten defense. We have a new DC, coincidence? I think not. So with our talent on offense, a competent OC would have our offense scoring all kinds of touchdowns instead of all these field goals losing us games.
By Kathy P on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
The problem was that they didnt do their homework. Yes, they got off to a good start but (3) trips int the red zone and can only come away with (3)pts. each time!.We had a very soft center of the football field and RGIII was getting not 5yds.but 15yds or more each time he hit it. It wasnt being defended like it was for the Detroit game.By the time the Vikes had figured it out it was tooooo late to do a whole lot. Yes, they made a valiant effort to stage a comeback, but they were acting like they had “all day” and no sense of urgency until the last 5mins. of the game. I agree with all of the fans who support putting JWright in the slot as well. We NEED a full receiving corps and we dont have it right now. They depend way to much on Harvin/Peterson to carry the load it seems. And didn’t they pay good money for Simpson who just sits on the sidelines jumping up and down? Seems pretty limbered up to my eyes. GET HIM ON THE FIELD COACH!!!

Not so, unless Musgrave and Fraizer start postive play calling, The Vikings could very well end up at the bottom of the heap. Again.

427 net yards is nice but when the first 3 trips into the red zone end in field goals. That is the coaches fault. The name of the game is to score TD’s in the red zone. If the vikings would have scored at least 1 TD in those first three trips the game would have been different. I got to give it to you Mike. You will go down with the ship I guess. Musgrave is what got Fox fired in carolina. it will happen to Fraizer in Vikings country.

Exactly Bluebird. I’m not sure what parents are teaching these days if it’s just to be okay with mediocrity… but teams don’t win superbowls by just saying “good enough” and not striving to get better and figuring out what holes or problems there are on their team.

You know I see all these people talking, saying that we had open recievers on the field that were missed. Yeah cause our QB is not confident in what he sees thus is not making the throws down field. And even thow his confidence is up from where it was last year… he has a LONG way to go before he is a star QB… Not saying that he is bad cause I don’t think that. But I do think that he needs to work on a lot of stuff prior to be called good, or great for that matter. Also he needs to get rid of the ball and trust his eyes. I think part of the reason that we are not getting explosive plays is that Ponder is not trusting his instincts or his recievers. Unless your name in Harvin. Harvin is the only trusted one.
Once he firgures that out, I think it will be hard to stop us… Unfortenatly we will have to wait to next year for all of that to come to fruition, Rokkie QB’s don’t really turn on till their 3rd season. Ponder is no exception

I think this team has the opportunity to be one of the best in the league. But Ponder needs to trust what he sees and we need some more down the field talent before Harvin gets seriously hurt. We can’t only throw to him all the time, which they pretty much do. I do think, however that we need to get the ball in his hands as much as possible. But not to the extent that we are starting to risk his value and career from taknig so many hits.
He needs help! bad!
By Parkway on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
That’s where we need a big trustworthy receiver Musky like Favre had in Rice where he knew if he just gave him a chance to get it Rice would win more often than not. That will need to be our focus this offseason, unless we can somehow make a trade before the deadline but Bowe is about the only one I can think of right now and I’m not sure how likely that is.
Agreed on Ponder as well. Most QBs come into their own in their 3rd or 4th year so maybe with some extra help next year it could really be a break out year.

Try putting Percy and Simpson on the outside and Jarius wright in the slot..
This offseason
Add a big fast physical wide reciever in the 1st round
Add the best safety available in the 2nd round
Add a defensive tackle in the 3rd round
Since we have 2 draft picks in the 4th round. Add a linebacker and a corner
5th round add another wide reciever or a offensive lineman

Harvin is adding big numbers to his new contract he will sign this off season…

Percy will get paid…And Zygi will pay him top WR money to keep him here…
So all can stop with the “Pay Percy now” chant…Because it will happen…But not until after the season is over…

So why are fans asking for that distraction ???…
Percy knows he will get paid…

Why are we only using Kyle when we HAVE to and not when we WANT to? 3 redzone trips and not even chances at getting a TD??? It’s one thing to get to the redzone, try to score a TD and be stopped by a good redzone defense, but the Redskins are NOT a great redzone defense and Kyle and Percy are not even getting chances.
Sometimes you just have to take shots to the endzone. Even if they don’t make the catches, the way the league is set up now, there is a good chance a defensive passing interference might get called and now we have AP 1 yard away. Kyle is leading the league with 5 TD’s at the TE position but almost all of them come at the end of the game.
AND seriously, where is J. Wright??? Is it injury, his not ready, what is it?

I’m thinking that we might have won the game if Frazier would have kept his head in the game. Early in the forth quarter he was hanging his head a number of times (on camera) like there was no hope…..and that we had already lost.
It’s hard enough trying to win when you play with no wide receivers, but don’t let your players see you hanging your head in defeat with 8 minutes to go.

@OTKalil2012
I respect your opinion, but in no way do I agree with you. It was not every down that people were WIDE open. I’m not talking about blown coverages here. It was little spots on big downs. For example there were Two Different 3rd down instences where Peterson had no one around him 10yrds down the field. One we didn’t convert and punted, the other he scrambled instead of throwing it. There were a few other tiems during the game where receivers had OK, seperation…NOT great… But decent enough for an NFL QB to make… and he didn’t. I understand fully that, he is young and will grow over time. But I am not gunna be the guy to throw all of my eggs in his basket yet. Still has a lot to prove. Not all his fault though. Partially front office fault for not putting enough talent around him, or the talent that we have (besides Harvin and AP, not talking about them here) has been hurt or unproductive.
It is crucial situations under durress that ponder is either dropping his eyes, not seeing it, or not trusting what he IS seeing. He is not a great QB yet… YET. Maybe he will be…. HOPEFULLY HE WILL BE!
I BLEED PURPLE I always have, but I am not going to be one to sit here and say that everything is great just cause were winning a few games. Are things better? you bet your ARSE they are! WiIl things continue to get better? DARN RIGHT THEY WILL! Will the front office surround Ponder with more Talent? Gosh I hope so.

OTK the reason for “paying Percy now” is because we don’t want it to go till the end of the year. Once that day comes he is a free agent and is open to offers from other teams. How many teams off the top of your head could use a guy like Harvin…HMMMM I can think of at least ten… AT LEAST. We don’t want it to go that far, just encase a team that has more cap space then we do offers him somthing bigger than we can. I don’t even want to take that chance. People think that all these players want to stay where they started, and that is just not the case. This is there Pay check, they want to go where they will be PAYED. Not saying Percy is one of those guys, I obviously don’t know him on a personal level… BUT I SAY PAY PERCY SOON!!!!!

Should we have won this game? Sure we should have. But we didn’t do it because we didn’t execute. We turned the ball over when there was no reason for it. We had a TE move too early on an AP touchdown late. A young team will make mistakes. Ponder made a two to three too many. KR made one. However, this team will get better. These two players will be making big plays for years to come. They are playing as a team and to trade for some retread WR or one known to upset the harmony in the clubhouse isn’t worth it. This team will eventually get WR’s, but until they do, they are at least being competitive and they will be getting better. If they win the next 2, they will be 6-2. Before the season started I stated this would be a best case scenario for us and would be pleased to be in that position. The coaches will make their adjustments or else … Go Vikes!

Nothing to feel bad about, we going to win some and lose some. They just step up and out played us. Their defense did better as well as their offense! We must get over it, and we MUST score towndown in the red zone, we didn’t use AP much at all in the redzone? Why? To be honest, i’m proud of what we doing so far! Good job, coaches, staff, players and even to the waterboy. We just got to find away to score touchdowns, and find away to be running QBs. Don’t take the next two games likely, they hungry!

Musky- Percy’s contract isn’t up at the end of the year. It expires 2014 so they’ll probably give him the extention in the offseason.
By David Plowman on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
By the time the vikings get a WR AP will have retired and the defense will be on life support. GM and the vikings’s coaches are wasting the talent that we have now. I think the vikings are a 9-7 at worst but if the play calling is like it was Sunday they will be 4-12. Wake up, smell the coffee, create better plays in the redzone, get a WR with spped and hands and STOP RUNNING WHEN THERE ARE 8 IN THE BOX.
By Troutdaddy on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
@ Digger- Not being negative- just sayong that many of us did not like the play calling when we needed the yards in the red zone. I love the way the Vikes have gelled this year and we have a lot to cheer about. I am still so stked to see how we finished. Just making it a point to call out what the fans an analysts are saying…
By Immure on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
We do need another WR to help out Percy and Ponder, but I don’t see us making a trade for one this season. I don’t see the GM trading a draft pick/picks to get on. We’ll either draft one or sign one in F/A this offseason.
I believe Jenkins, Aroma, and Simpson are all on either a one year or the last year of their contracts.

Who’s to blame? are you kidding? HI, were the Vikings and every time on offense we will be giving the ball to Percy Harvin! not only that there beaten him into the ground, give me a break! why does’nt everybody else on the team come out and say, hi we haven’t the slightest idea what to do with the football, we just give the ball to Percy Harvin!, we are hoping the other team doesn’t catch on to us, shhhh. We can’t count on Simpson, we got to do something, the other team does’nt even need a safety, we don’t throw the ball down field!
By Muskyfever on Oct 15, 2012 | Reply
I am not going to start to question Harvin’s toughness on te field. but when we are giving him the ball as much as AP, I am slightly concerned about his longevity for our team. It seems like every game is is limping or sore or something is wrong. I understand fully that he is our best player and we need to get him the ball when we can. But is it worth letting him take shot after shot after shot. If we continue like this he is going to get hurt. I know that he is the one laying the BOOM down on opposing offenses a lot. But I don’t want out best player to be hurt because we have no one else. We have to think of something to give this guy a break. If people were invincable I would want them to give it to him every play… but were not.
I hope Harvin holds up all year, but 15-20 touches a game.. Thats a lot of big hits in this league. Look, our star RB got the ball 17 times yesterday. Harvin was not far behind, IF he was behind at all. This concerns me

(I know that he seeks out the hits a lot of the time) Im just saying, potentially it could be bad

Here are a few head coaching decisions that bother this fan…
When Harvin an AP are your “workhorses” on offense…And are doing more to carry the team, than anyone else on the team…
Why is the head coach allowing more of a load for them to carry each week…As the season goes…
Last Sunday…Harvin took over “3″ Kick off returns…And got dinged up on one of those returns…Why ??
Didn’t Sherels show plenty of ability returning a punt the week before ??…
Gerhart had 6 carries 2 weeks ago for 41 yards…
Gerhart only have one carry this last Sunday…
While AP carried the ball 17 times playing with a slight ankle injury…Why ???…
Why is a “healthy” Jarious Wright (and Summers) sitting on the bench on the “inactive list” ???…When the WR’s (besides Harvin) on the field right now…Get no separation on their route running ???…

FICKLE FANS. Six weeks ago everyone whining about this team– arguing over quarterbacks, screaming over wide receivers (or lack thereof), calling for a new coach, crying we would be at the bottom of the division, predicting gloom on the doomsday when San Fran enters the dome, doubt over AP’s comeback— then we go 4-2, AP looks great, San Fran got whooped by us, and everyone is cheering saying we will be in the Superbowl. NOW, one loss, at 4-2, everyone is whining again. WHAT IS WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!??? Are you sane? Do you understand life?

Some of you guys are losing sight of one thing that makes this team great but is going to hurt us on the road. We are a very young team, it’s hard to win on the road with a young team because of the crowd. Do we need to fix the redzone offense? Yes. Does one ROAD loss mean it’s time to panic? No. If we continue to play well at home and pick up a few more road wins we can go 11-5. Which is pretty impressive considering how last year went.
The redskins are a very good team and they will challenge for the NFC East division title.
To me the problem was that our players stopped playing in the second quarter and it cost us the game. Mistakes were made on both sides of the ball in the second quarter and if we had played better in that one quarter we would have won the game.
As far as WRs go I said it before we should trade up in the draft for one and with the way Spielman handled the last draft I think he will do this. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take two WRs in the first three rounds. To whoever said we should trade down to get Manti Te’o I’m not quite sure where you think were going to finish in the standings but at this point we would have to lose out in order to trade DOWN to get him(even this is a stretch), we could trade up but down…no.

As for trades. D Bowe is my favorite choice. They dealt Jared Allen to us why wouldnt they be open to trading Bowe? Especially since they used the picks we sent over for JA on thier franchise CB and LT, so it worked out wel for both parties.
Here is a thought. What if we can get Dez Bryant for the right price? Being on America’s Team doesnt seem to be helping his maturity. Put him on a team with AD and Percy, a situation where he isnt even 2nd best on the offense. I just feel that would straighten him out having to take a back seat to a guy who is already taking a back seat.
Or do I need to ease up on the cough medicine?

Nice to see some fired up fans here. You should be upset. Your team pi-ssed away their game yesterday and there is not one thing to be proud of.
For those of you who deny the predictability, your delusional or in denial.
Rather than accepting mediocrity, like that dimwit Titus dolt, continue to make noise and overturn your culture of underachieving. The vikings are an embarrassment to the NFC North.
Rivalries really are much more fun when teams are well coached and prepare good game plans. This rivalry is a yawn. I can’t believe the Lions are more interesting to play than you guys. That’s just sad.
You guys can beat Ariz, but they will shut your predictable offense down and then there will probably be riots.
The TB is too tough to call.
The Seattle game, I absolutely 100% guarantee they will beat you, and badly. Write it down here and I’ll remind you. They win by 3 TDs and their defense completely shuts your predictable offense down.
And lastly, my favorite:

First Off, I want to say I’m not being negative. We are off to a great start & I love it, but there are a few things I don’t understand! #1 Why doesn’t Frazier have the final say on all of the Offensive Plays? That is the HC’s job he doesn’t do it because every play call goes as planned that tells me that Musgrave calls anything he wants! #2 Why doesn’t Ponder get to audible at the line especially if he sees a different scheme from the defense? #3 We are not utilizing all the talent on this football team, we have 3 QB’s so we can use whoever why not not throw Webb in there for a play or 2 every now & then I gaurantee if any combo of Webb, Peterson, Gerhart, & Harvin were back there the defense wouldn’t know what was coming! We have to get creative too this will keep the defense guessing! #4 When is Jarius Wright going to play? This guy hasn’t even seen the field & Frazier said we have no injuries so why is he not playing Les? We drafted him as an “Impact Right Away Player” so what’s the deal!!! Just a few of my thoughts!!! Let’s take it to the cardinals this sunday! Skol Vikings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first of all I hope the Berrian thing is a joke, cause that guy is terrible. Dez Bryant also… Not very good. He like to drop the rock in big situations. That two point converstion last week should have been caught. He complains and has big issues off the field… Terrible idea! Bowe is the best option. But we are looking for certain guys with certain character on our team… And trust me Bowe does not fit that trend… AT ALL. He is like Moss… Complain complain complain. ask for a trade and complain some more.
I think we need another WR as well if Simpson can’t go, but if he can I guess we will just have to see. But I guess see what the record ends at without a deep threat and draft some young talent again. Speilman will get er done, I’m not worried. Was peed off yesterday about the loss, but we really arn’t sitting bad at all right now… SKOL VIKES
By DrinkHeavy on Oct 16, 2012 | Reply
Let’s lighten up on the criticism guys.. and that’s coming from someone who was all over the Vikes last year for showing absolutely no guts and heart. This is a very young and inexperienced team that has managed to beat some very good teams and get to 4-2. If they manage to finish at 8-8 this year in the NFC North, I’ll take that as a good sign of progress.
As bad as the Vikes played on Sunday, they still had a chance to comeback against a well-coached and talented team on the road. That said, my biggest problem with Sunday wasn’t the conservative offense, but an overly conservative zone defense that underestimated RGIII’s abilities to consistently make plays passing the ball. RGIII took full advantage of the Vikes prevent defense by finding all the holes in the two deep zone with quick slants to move the chains. It didn’t look like they had anything in the gameplan to mix up coverages to confuse the rookie and we paid the price. I know alot of that has to do with making the offensive and defensive game plans simple enough so that the young and inexperienced guys can execute and learn on the job while avoiding the big mistake. But I would have felt better with the defensive scheme that Frazier used vs Phil a couple of years ago to contain Mike Vick that used a lot of corner and safety blitzes.
The AZ offense has not been playing all that well and this is a Vikes home game, so I expect that the team should win a close one. GO VIKES..
