Allen, Ponder Listed As Probable For Vikings; Titans Rule QB Locker Out, WR Britt Questionable

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 5, 2012 – 1:36 pm

The Vikings and Tennessee Titans have released their final injury reports for the week, and there were no big surprises for either team. Here are a few of the details…

– Vikings DE Jared Allen (groin) and QB Christian Ponder are listed as probable. Allen did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and Ponder was limited on those days, but both guys were full participants on Friday.
— Listed as probable for the Vikings are LG Charlie Johnson (low back), CB Marcus Sherels (quadriceps) and CB Antoine Winfield (knee).
— LB Erin Henderson (concussion) and WR Michael Jenkins (rib) are listed as questionable.
— LB Marvin Mitchell (calf) is doubtful and both S Mistral Raymond (ankle) and S Andrew Sendejo are out.

– The Titans ruled Jake Locker (shoulder) out for Sunday. Matt Hasselbeck, a 14-year veteran, will start for Locker.
— TE Jared Cook (shoulder) is probable.
— The following players are listed as questionable: LB Patrick Bailey (hand), WR Kenny Britt (ankle), DE Scott Solomon (hamstring), LB Colin McCarthy (ankle) and T Mike Otto (finger/knee).

Better warm up Joe Webb, just in case.

Good news on Kenny Britt being questionable. Usually the big Q results in an Out for the player. I still think even with Britt the Vikings are in a really good position to win this game but having him out will be big for the Vikings as they will be able to put more pressure on the QB.

This is a must win. This team is very beatable. Looking at our schedule we cannot afford to loose this game. It is also a home game and we have to win at home if we want any chance of going to the playoffs.

Hopefully Ponder and Allen worked the kinks out. I like how thorough they are with evaluating on whether to play someone or not. It may not be to the fans satisfactory when your main QB or one of your man Defensive men might not be playing, or at least not firing on all cylinders, but those guy’s health is first and foremost. We need to be focused on this game, and if the Vikings are (which I am assuming they will be.) We’ll have this game in the bag and chalk up another win for us.

I expect Hasselbeck to show signs of his experience. Athough his best days are behind him, he’ll shine in this game. 1 sack, probably 2 INTs, but he’ll make up for it. Vegas is showing -5.5 for MIN. Take TEN against the moneyline, although MIN will win. MIN will win by 3 within the final 4 min of the game. Not a big day for AP or CJ. Ponder will continue to protect the pigskin, but no big numbers. Blair Walsh continues to earn his keep with 100% on kicks in this game. Good win for MIN, as they grow their team. We will begin to nip at the heels of the teams projected to go post season. Will it count later? I never thought so, but…..

Bet your money against the point spread, but look for numbers that should be; MIN – 27 and TEN – 24. SKOL VIKINGS!

This game scares me. A game that they should win. Min should be on a high the way they are playing and Ten is down right now. It seems that Min always let teams like this beat them.. just like Indy did.

  21. By Dueyz on Oct 5, 2012 | Reply

Don’t worry, JB. MIN will have to fight against a hungry team. It will seem like the IND game, but we will win. The larger question thereafter will be; Can MIN take this energy into the 3rd quarter of our season?

    Tenn game plan:

QB Matt H a s s e lback will start his first game of the season for the Titans and could bring more consistency to the passing game – a l b e i t with less big-play flair. RB Chris Johnson busted loose for 141 rushing yards in Week 4. But to prove he’s finding his old form, he needs to back it up against Minnesota’s eighth- ranked defense.

Need to know: Tenn is 21-8 when Johnson runs for 100 plus yards. Pnder has thrown 123 p a s s e s without an interception, dating to last season. The franchise record is held by Warren M o o n(193)

Vikings better not get all nervous like some of these bloggers. It seems Vikings fans hold their breath as if we lose a game or two it is the end of the world. We will lose another 4-5 games, so take it easy. We will win on Sunday, but I am concerned about Tampa and Washington coming up– when we lose, so? I hope “fans” don’t start bashing the team when we lose. We already are way ahead of last season thanks to an excellent coaching and front office staff.

  32. By MrObjective. on Oct 5, 2012 | Reply

This team or nucleus clearly has a form of chemistry some of the power house teams in the league don’t. this is a young team, the defense will improve, ponder will improve, peterson is still not 100 percent and will improve – progressively throughout the season. Simpson was ponder’s favorite target in training camp so I expect that there will be more points out of the offense when necessary. by that i mean when other teams start putting points up on the board. so far, the 49ers and lions could not. Until then the formula that the coaches have put together is working to perfection with the players they have installed to run it. they could still be in first place, heading into their last 6 games, 4 of which include the bears and packers. The only non divisional game that looks like trouble in the next 6 games is in washington. They also have 4 winnable home games and 1 road game in Seattle. this team is built to stay with teams that are expected to beat them and win by small margions to the teams that they are expected to beat. for that reason it is not a guarantee they will lose to washington, beat settle and win their 4 homes games but it is not an unreasonable prediction and, for the same reason, it is not out of the question that they lose to seattle and beat washington. Never the less, if they hold home court and win the 5 of the next 6 games they are favored to – that puts them at 8-2 heading into the last 6 games of the season and in control of their fate. assuming the bears and packers will both be within striking distance at that point, experience may trump momentum but if the vikings can atleast earn a wildcard that would be an incredible benefit for them in the form of experience and that’s when you start looking at them as contenders the following year.

Titus – I’ve seen you mention that you think we are gunna lose to Tampa a couple of times. Washington i can kind of see where you’re coming from, (RG3/@Washington) but Tampa has not been impressive at all this year, and we play em at home on a Thursday night…Why do you think we’ll lose that game?

  34. By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Oct 5, 2012 | Reply

Iowa, not exactly sure, kind of a hunch based on a few things, but it is an intangible feeling. Tampa played at Dallas a few weeks ago and Dallas barely scored enough to win– I don’t know a whole lot except their D is supposedly quite good and I think they are one of those teams that can play better than their record — they were really good a couple seasons ago– IIcould see them coming up here and shocking the Vikes.

I guess the Titans might as well not show up. You guys already have a W marked on your schedule and are looking to the Redskins. That sounds alot like the 49ers in week 3 only it took San Francisco a great year and a deep playoff run to gain that confidence. It took beating them and two special team plays from losing to the Lions for the MN confidence. Dial it back, take a breath and enjoy the good team you have. It does no good to talk about the same thing 24/7. Watch a movie or take the wife on a date night. The Vikings will be fine whether or not you blog about them 20 times a day or not.

Okay we all know there was a lot of racial prejudice in the past. But look at all these great running backs who, if they were coming through now could be great quarterbacks.

    The great Jim Brown (6’2″ 230″) had a 110.1 p@sser rating.

    O.J. Simpson (6’2″ 212′) had a 82.8 rating.

    Marcus Allen 6’2″ 200 had a 106.8 with 6 tds and 1 int

Leroy Kelly 6’0 202 had a 90.9 rating and was tall enough in the 1960s and 70s to play Quarterback.

Brown, Simpson, Allen, and Kelly were never given a chance to play football’s elite position. Why? Because they were black.

Let’s not make that same mistake with Joe Webb give him a chance to develop his obviously enormous skills.

(I believe that we did already make that mistake with Tarvaris Jackson, Daunte Culpepper and several more great prospects.) You don’t know what you had until it’s gone.

Now I know you are going to argue they haven’t done anything since they left here. But they could have been successful here. Prejudice still rears it’s ugly head.

To say that the Vikings don’t start Joe Webb at QB because he is black is ridiculous. out of the last 18 seasons the Vikings have started a Black QB for twelve of them (Waren Moon, Randall Cunningham, Daunte Culpepper and T-Jack). That is 66%. Lets not forget when magic man Gus Frerote came in and got us into the playoffs, but wait I forgot he got hurt and brought in T-Jack who di do pretty well; Not only that but when Frerote was healthy they still started T-Jack. I could make the claim that this was because of racism and sound just as radical as you.

The Viking must prepare like every game from here on out is a play off game and not let up , look no further back than the Colts game and realize that on any given Sunday any team can beat you if you are not prepared and up for the challenge. My hope is the Vikings have gotten pass over looking teams that they are favored to beat and play every opponent as if they were the defending Superbowl champions. This is time that can define whether they are for real or not and ready to challenge for a championship, if not this year, than very soon. The Vikings fans deserve a Superbowl Championship!

  64. By 4eversteve on Oct 6, 2012 | Reply

If the Vikings could get Joe Webb to buy in that he would see more playing time if he was willing to practice catching the football as well as getting spot playing time at QB, he would increase his value on the open market when he becomes a free agent. The more valuable and diverse of a player you are the bigger the pay day will be when you negotiate a new contract . Webb is losing out by being closed minded to the idea of playing wide receiver. He could be better than Calvin Johnson, he is more athletic in just about every way, he has bigger hands, jumps higher and is the same height if not taller and is every bit as fast as Megatron. Webb can catch the ball if wanted to, he just can’t get in the right frame of mind and that’s to bad because a career in the NFL is very short to waste all that talent standing on the side line not contributing to the overall success of the team!

bears and pack have easy wins this week so vikes gotta win this game to stay atop the division

  66. By Alex on Oct 6, 2012 | Reply

I wouldn’t say the packers have an “easy” win this week. The colts head coach just got diagnosed with leukemia and they’re playing at home, its possible that they could pull an upset over the packers because of wanting to win for the coach. The interim coach made a public statement calling the colts fans out saying come out to the game and not let Packers fans take over the stadium. Even though I hated seeing what the Colts did to all the players that made that organization great I would want them to win this game no matter who they were playing for their coach. But since they’re playing the packers I want to see them win even more.

Maybe it’s just wishful thinking but I can see the Colts getting a win, especially with two weeks to game plan for this game.

Anytime a QB can wing the ball for around 300+ yards…That team has a chance to win…Throwing a few ints along the way or not…Luck is learning his craft….

It would be nice to see Ponder sling it, but since the Titans have the 27th ranked rush defense I’m sure we will just go back to our run run pass punt routine and see if it works. AP should get an easy 200 though if we do.

I know we can run the ball…And AP should do well…Maybe even great tomorrow…

It is not like Ponder is a seasoned veteran at QB…He has a ton to learn…Ponder isn’t learning much just handing the ball off to AP…

The schedule just keeps getting tougher…And not the time to start ignoring the pa ssing game…Just because a team has a weak run defense…Their pass defense is just as bad…If not worse…

Nate Washington has the most experience…

Cook on Washington…He is the deep threat…

I like that match up…Should be fun to watch…

Hasslebeck is going to take some shots..He has nothing to lose…

I mean, what are they going to do ???…Put him back on the bench…He is used to sitting there…

    Be ready tomorrow secondary…

No way AP will rush for 200 yds on Sunday because Frazier will not allow him that kind of potential punishment so early on his knee and I agree. Give Gerhart a chance to shine also if AP gets his 100+ game and give AP more time to get to 100%.

JONES WROTE THIS IN 2011! HOW MANY OF THESE BLOGGERS STILL EXIST???

Titus…a steady blogger for years, always has your back, and seems to get along with everyone. I appreciate your knowledge of the game, and people.

NovaScotiaVike…known as much for his dog, Nova also packs a punch with his dry humor. He also is supportive, and we have never had a battle.

DRS…The stadium guy. The DRS does not always agree with me, but allows me to have my freedom of speech.

Shawn…we had a legendary battle once, but now find we seem to have many area.s in which we agree.

Carl K., ….not a frequent blogger any more, but man this dude made sense.

Viking61: I just love the fact that this guy enjoyed the days of Eller, Page, Marshall, and Larsen. He knows what it takes to win football games when it comes to the draft, free agency, and trades.

Parody: Parody actually has helped me with my college cla.s.s.es. He is a cla.s.s.y dude, even though I do not always agree with him!!!

Vegas Vike: Another guy who makes a lot of sense, but whom I have not heard
    much from at all.

  129. By H.M.G. on Oct 6, 2012 | Reply

When I did start blogging instead of just reading it was during the timeouts. So forgot the name I was using. Then later I took Wobblehead as a moniker after RVF swore to blog as himself only. Now I decided to use my first name Holden and a line from Friends as my name. Holden My Groin. or Humanoid Machine Gabber.
May have been other insults to Wobschall between timeouts and Wobblehead.

You can actually write and be read @daily norseman. Strange to say but i get more timely, honest news from other sites…..That is so wrong considering that this is the “Official” Vikings site… Injury reports and updates are non existant here. Who wants training wheels on their blog anyway? The G rating got old fast.
