Broadcast Coverage Information For Sunday’s Vikings-49ers Game

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 21, 2012 – 7:53 pm

The Vikings host a NFC team at noon this week at Mall of America Field, which means FOX will handle television broadcast duties.

Kenny Albert will handle play-by-play duties and former Dallas Cowboys fullback Daryl “Moose” Johnston will provide the analysis. Former Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Tony Siragusa will provide analysis from the sidelines.

You can also catch the game on the Vikings Radio Network – KFAN-FM 100.3/KTCN-AM 1130 locally. Paul Allen and Pete Bercich will call the action from the booth and Greg Coleman will handle sideline reporting duties. The Vikings Radio Network pregame show, with Mike Mussman as host, begins at 10:00 a.m. CT.

Finally a game that is being shown nationally on TV! Even here in Hawaii we diehard viking fans will get to see our favorite team live. I am really impressed with how the vikes are playing in spurts, so if they can do it for a whole game they will win.

OK, Vikings, we have a real ‘Barn Burner’ this Sunday. No dumb plenalties, like the Colts game! This means you Kalil, Loadholt, nearly caused us a touchdown,

Ponder was trying his best to get us up the field, only to have Kalil get a late hit penalty. Yes he did it. Next Loadholt on holding. J. Allen, watch the borders!

  22. By TheRealDon on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

Thats easy the Niners have 9 makes sense..

  23. By Vlad19 on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

Ponder is going to be in traction by end of third qtr, OR he will be running in panic, like usual, but MORE urgency as this time it will be REAL danger instead of his nervous spine. 9ers are going to scheme out Harvin, which means he will not likely be the game-changer we need.

Offensive line and running game needs to control the ball and score at least 20 to have a prayer. Neither are likely against a VERY GOOD defense.

We will need turnovers, 2 ints or more, a fumble recovery or two, but this is also NOT likely as our defense is a Girls 4-H club when it comes to takeaways.

Most likely, as Parkway suggests, WE ARE THE PINATA!

I will say that I don’t like the melancholy attitude that Childress had. Frasier shows the same and now Ponder shows it in his press releases. We cannot be so accepting of be a losing team. Ponder needs to have a sense of urgency, and that way of thinking begins with his HC. I’d really like to see a fire in the heart of our team! Am I alone here???

Therealdon, or any other flag-waving Viking fan that feels they MUST declare the realists who speak to the reality of this team and condition as “non-fans”, have your chest-pounding moment, but you are no more a fan, in fact probably LESS SO as learned “fans” and general “football fans” are able to speak their minds about the game based upon TWO things 1) Our Constitutional Rights, and 2) this is a football blog, and talking about your team or football in general is not only allowed, it is encouraged. Because you want to have your pom-poms out, doesn’t mean others can’t talk about the truth of the game or the team.

AND, it doesn’t mean we don’t want the Vikings to win, we do. And that is more precisely WHY we talk about the team’s weaknesses as we WISH they would be corrected, and no problem is solved without acknowledging it first… and in OUR dialogue, we HOPE that the discontent might somehow drift to the right ears, and this might finally have an impact — LOOK, Asher Allen and Ced Griffen are gone… someone is paying attention OR agreeing with me about personnel – and that would make me RIGHT too.

Lastly, remember, we are 1-1 and have played the two OTHER worst teams in the NFL so far, about to play arguably the BEST by many standards and many opinions!

Now enjoy your football as you will, I and the other astute bloggers you referenced in your scathing post will do the same. Game on!

Thanks OTKalil, I am not sure why posters feel compelled to discredit another simply for speaking their minds – and as much good, intelligent dialogue I see on this blog, there is a fair share of silliness. But NOTHING is sillier to me than someone trying to police the etiquette of “Homer speech”…. Like we should all wear purple underwear too on Sundays.

I enjoy hearing thoughtful critique about the team, it shows a knowledgeable fan base, however opinionated it might be. And we can all afford to be wrong once in while as we are not doing Speilman’s job…. although I detect about 6-7 guys on this blog that COULD do better job than Speilman…

Personally I would have started by NOT acquiring Bernard “drink of water” Berrian on the ugly and fateful day! I would have weapons at WR by now too, not just Simpson, and that verdict is still out – cuz HE is.

I only have three words to say– TRUE FANS ARISE!!!

  41. By Vlad19 on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

Spencer, I think it is a rational evolution of the game. The “pocket passer” by and large has been the staple of the game – guys like Fran Tarkenton had been an electrical surge that MANY could not, would not swallow. He was athleticism in an otherwise nonathletic position (the past years standards) – for many years. That discussions STILL prevails – remember the T Jack vs Gus Frerotte discussions on this blog?

The game has moved to a level of athleticism meeting fundamental technique. Colleges are capitalizing on the immense talent in these young men. But it isn;t just a “black QB” thing, as look at Tebow. Very soft in traditional technique but a creative and physical beast. You get the kid who can do it all, it makes all kind of sense.

    Vlad19…

I like Simpson…Hoping he brings back some “smiles” back to this offense next week…

Simpson plays loose, and has fun out there…

The Vikings need more of that the football field…

I’m not saying the game should be taken to lightly…

But it is, just still a game after all…

  44. By Spencer on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

The only reason why I have a problem with it is because I just cant stand watching these option-based offenses.

  45. By Vlad19 on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

OTKalil, I love Simpson in fact. Just angry that a young kid would be so foolish. But yes, he has incredible skill set and LOVES playing the game. It is “easy work” to the kid, while Aramdoshu it is cranial cramps to just not run routes into another guy’s route…

No, I am ready for Simpson like never before. The smartest move this Org has made since signing Sydney…. and they subsequently let their best go. So I tend to wait for the other foot to fall with our group, watching incredulously sometimes.

    But LOVE Simpson!

The option fake hand off, that RG III has been using early this season…Has been working well for him so far…

RG really flows like he is going to hand the ball off, even extending out his hands quite far…Then pulls the ball back and does his thing…

RG III sells the run option…As well as a veteran QB sells a good pump fake, to an opposing defense…

  47. By Vlad19 on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

Spencer, I tend to agree with you as I like traditional game — and there STILL has not been a “running QB” that made his game with his feet more than his arm, while capably standing in the pocket, that has won a Super Bowl.

McNabb missed his 3 shots…. and the nearest to a running QB who manages as a traditional QB too.

Pocket passers and a history of Super Bowls still speak to the value of the traditional game.

  53. By we're bad on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

Let’s face it. The vikings are not a good football team. The d’line is not that good. Allen is over-rated, couldn’t tackle Luck and is not very good vs. the run. LBer’s are average and the secondary is POOR!!!! Offensive line is average to below, running backs are above average, QB – it’s too early to tell, but doesn’t throw down field. Which leads me to the receivers which are below average as a core. Field Goal kicker is very good, about time we got a kicker who can kick it in the endzone. Overall a below average NFL team. That’s the truth!!!!

  54. By Vlad19 on Sep 22, 2012 | Reply

Hey Spencer, was out to dinner with family.

But on Cook, YES, he is a good coverman, and big enough for Megatron, a great combo. He is decent man to man, but has tools to be good. Potential great????

He has a little POP in him, but Winfield at 185 shames him still, so ONLY in run support must he get much better. But having a good cover corner is whole lot different than we have had oppo of Winfield in LONG time. I like him, BUT he is rash and foolish by last year’s event would indicate.

He stays out of trouble, he stays in our starting line-up.

Harrison might be good but getting toyed with by NFL so far, Mistral is capable, so we are BETTER than last year, but LBers are bad other than Greenway. So our middle is gonna hurt more than our corners!

Yuck, we’re bad, that was lousey! I’m thinking of getting the names of the 49ers relatives to tell them what hospital the team will be at, I’m going to try and get them to stop making Purple Punch flavored Whoop Ass just for this game! maybe try and talk the Vikes into only playing 9 or 10 players at a time! its going to be ugly, the Purple Berzerk Gang is going to welcome the 49ers to 2012!!!

My Question for Wobs and His Reply:

With so many of the NFL’s top teams sporting some of the worst ranked defenses, do you think we can be legitimate contenders in this league without some legit field stretching receivers? Seems to me that if the Colts can completely shut down our passing game by running cover 2 we have some glaring holes in our offense. Defense no longer wins championships………Its all about the receivers in todays passing league.

    Wobs Reply:

I don’t quite agree with you. Can you name very many teams that are led by talented WRs? Maybe the Detroit Lions. The Cardinals best player is Larry Fitzgerald. Other than that, offenses stop and start with their QB or with a running game. And I also agree with your contention that defenses have become less relevant. When you look at a lot of Super Bowl-winning teams, they had defenses that were dangerous. They might not have ranked #1 overall in yards allowed, but they created turnovers and were able to rush the QB and/or stop the run consistently.

Long story longer, I do think the Vikings can contend. But they do need to fix a few issues, namely their pass defense and their ability to turn drives into TDs instead of FGs. It will help when Jerome Simpson comes back next week.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Did someone say “sense of urgency”? Here on a Vikings Blog discussion site?

    I nearly died laughing!!

The Vikings have a well known culture of underachieving, and yes, like someone else who pointed out here, the news conferences show it too with how accepting the players and coaches are to mediocrity.

Yes, I’ll be watching the game. Yes, I’ll cheer them on. And yes, I’ll cry in frustration at either the beatdown they get, or choking and melting down and losing.
