He’s Back! Peterson Active and Will Start For Vikings
Posted by on September 9, 2012 – 9:29 amAdrian Peterson, who was listed as questionable on the team’s official injury report, is both active and will start for the team in today’s season-opener against the Jaguars at Mall of America Field. Peterson of course tore ligaments in his left knee during last season’s week 16 contest against the Redskins but, as it turns out, will only have missed one game due to the injury.
Vikings inactives: QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson, WR Jarius Wright, CB A.J. Jefferson, S Andrew Sendejjo, LB Marvin Mitchell, LB Audie Cole, and OL Mark Asper.
Jaguars inactives: WR Brian Robiskie, 21 Derek Cox, LB Daryl Smith, OL Josh Beekman, DE George Selvie, DE Austen Lane, and DT Jeris Pendleton.

A couple of good drives, but this team looks very much the same as last years team. The Vikings should be throttling the Jags right now, not leading by 2 in the 4th. QB has looked average at best, Defense is lucky that the Jag offense is sub-par. Something needs to change with this team. Don’t know what, but know that something has to change.

Spoiler…. one its the first week of the season. Not too much to read from the first game. Secondly, after the double down in 2010, its going to take time to get all of the personnel we need to get back on top. It seems like the rookies are playing pretty darn well for a first NFL game. Blocked PAT, nice kicks, Harrison Smith is in position (needs to drive with his legs more, but otherwise okay.)

By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Cmon Spencer, people have been telling you that Cook is not top tier for some time now. He just proved it today.
By Parkway on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Yup coaching is awful, yeah come on Gruden get off MNF and coach the Vikes

Spoiler, I know– my prediction has been 10-6 for quite some time, and I will stick with it.

@Spoiler Alert,
What are you talking about?
What a game… short of a heart attack… Have to relax.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
No titus, move that six to the left, not the right. 6-10. Hey…At least AD is back. And at least Ponder was pretty clutch today…There are some positives, but I just don’t see us reclaiming the “purple gang” days anytime in the next decade.
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Quit blaming cook. That was a circus catch.Cook got us a huge sack.
By Spencer on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
I think Cook will be fine though, even Revis gives up a few catches.
BAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
By MarcVike4Lyf on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
getting better guys getting better
By Matthias on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Cook played well (sack for 11 yards) and it simply was a “good” throw to the outside by Gabbert… No chance for Cook.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
What a game??? The Vikes should have stomped on the Jags. THE JAGS, NEW COACHING STAFF, BLAINE GABBERT. Give me a break. All it showed me was that the Vikes are only SLIGHTLY better than the Jags. Not something to be happy about. If this re-built team is going to be good, they need to play better than they did today. Young or not, the core of this team just does not have “it”.
By Spencer on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Jared Allen didn’t register a single sack in the 4th Quarter, or OT.
Just throwin that out there….
By SkolVikes98 on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
its a process man. You win week 1 and go from there. Get better every week, and by the end of the season who knows?
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
The front seven played a solid game. Gabbert is much improved.Blair Walsh really came thru today. That is the game of the week!!!
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Spoiler, be a winner, not a whiner.
By Parkway on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Yup we aren’t gonna beat any good teams playing like that, need alll new coaching staff
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Give it a rest Spencer, You are proven wrong on Cook, so you go back to Allen bashing.
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
People stop. Jaguars are an NFL team– they are not kindergartners. We won. Rejoice and enjoy. Look at Philly- getting beat by the Browns. Now that would be something to worry about if you were a Philly fan.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
I hope I am proven wrong, I’d love nothing more than to be proven wrong, guys. I just don’t see it.
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
CMON SPOILER ALERT, THERE ARE NOT ANY EASY TEAMS IN THE NFL. THOSE DAYS ARE OVER!!!!!
By Matthias on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Do you want to tell me that the Jets, Redskins and Browns are way better than the Bills, Saints and the Eagles? … Ponder didn’t play in the last preseason game, too, and at the end he lead the vikings to the game winning field goal. They won and that’s all what matters.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
No, Titus. Whining is not the same as stating the obvious. There were some good signs, I just don’t see the core of this team ever being good enough to bring home the Lombardi.
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
GEEESH. We win and people complain. We lose and people complain. Why watch the game — your reaction is the same.
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
That was an AWESOME WIN! The Vikings the past two years would never have won this game– remember we were beaten with 20 seconds to go. We tied and then won in overtime. Great win!!!
By rocksalt on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
We will take the win, but remember, this was Jaguars at home……
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
This shows strong team character, team chemistry, and resiliency of will.
Sorry– but I have to balance the blog with some positive reality.
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Im with you Mathias. Awin is a win. Every team in the league has improved. There are no easy teams in the NFL!!!! WE NEEDED THAT BOYS!!!
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
It should have not been that close. Opening day, At home, AP is back, against the Jags. The momentum should have been there from the start and just was not. I was expecting something like 28-10, but not winning in overtime by a field goal. The kind of energy the team had at the end, should have been there the whole game. I just don’t think this core has enough heart.
By Parkway on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
@Titus: That is the one positive I’m trying to take away from the WAY in which they won, hopefully it will produce some chemistry and they will bond and the team will be much stronger moving forward.
By habs001 on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
An important win to have a decent re-building season…The team is going to give up a lot of points this year…the team will need to score 30 plus points to win any games in the division…
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Titus, It’s different for native Minnesotans. Since I can remember, the vikings have been a big part of life. For many of us who have lived in the state Since birth, where fall colors are purple and gold; we are impatient. We have waited long enough. I’m glad we won, but I’ve seen wins. I want a championship!!!! And speaking for most native born Vikings fans. I am sick of waiting!!
By sandiamond on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
cook’s coverage horrid but the W is what counts!
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
What are you talking about Spoiler. We are one of the youngest teams in the league!!!!I geuss thats why your name is spoiler.Guys like you always look at the negative.
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
I am happy with the win. It is a good day in Vikings land. Remember last year, we started like 0-6.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
I hope this builds great things for this team, but I’ve been optimistic for too long. I will never hold my breath with this team. Like I said, entertaining game, but if they play like this against the Packers and Bears. OUCH!!!
By rocksalt on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
agreed, spoiler
By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Why is it human nature to complain and find fault? I will swim against that current.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Right on Rock Salt! I’ve had all i can stands and I cant stands no more. I’ll be a die-hard fan all my life, but I’ve had my high hopes thrashed too many times. Even if this team comes to fruition, the Vikings will likely never win the big one. There will be a choke in the NFC championship, Again. Or a choke in the Superbowl, Again.
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
We all want a championship but give me a break. This team is on the right tract. Yes we heve alot of work to do but i see some promise with this young and talented team!!!! SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
It’s because your not a native born Minnesotan Titus. Doubt and negativity has been bred into us. Get into greater Minnesota, it is an attitude many have. I mean people here are super nice, but there is always a shadow of doubt with native Minnesotans.
By JE on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Im swimming with you Titus!!! Way to stand up for your team!!
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
JE-you are setting yourself up for dissapointment. If they ever win the big one, I’ll be bouncing off the wall with everyone else, and my attitude will be changed forever. Yet, for now, I truly believe in the curse.
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
At least I stick with them, Like a fool, i watch them lose and choke faithfully.

Ha, I admire your enthusiasm, JE. But I think It’s called youthfullness and not being as broken hearted as us older fans.
By Matthias on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
True fans don’t care in the end, they always will support their team. Every year you have the chance to win the big game no matter what. Think positive. We might play in the bowl earlier than you fair weather fans might think. Tomorrow is the day for analyzing. Today is a day to celebrate. Skol!

Frazier said he sat down with Adrian Peterson, James Saxon, Bill Musgrave yesterday to discuss role. Thought 10-15 carries would be great.
sorry fred jones but AD was the difference in this one!
By Spoiler Alert on Sep 9, 2012 | Reply
Hey, I still support them, Watched them every Sunday for as far back as I can remember. That’s why I’m so negative on them. I’ve watched waaayyyyy too many seasons that only left me broken hearted.

Maybe i am but im not going to stop. I have been watching all the games since the early 70,s. Im a diehard what can i say. Im not going to give up now. This is the best group of young players that we have had in a long, long time!!

That was the most exciting game I have seen in a couple years. A win is a win and that was a hard fought victory for the purple an gold. The Jags had something to prove and we took it away from them. One team down……NEXT………….Sure we have obvious issues….. This is the NFL WE ALL DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring on the Colts next week @ Indy…..2-0 all I gotta say
