MSFA, Vikings Introduce 5 Architectural Firms Bidding On New Stadium

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 6, 2012 – 4:45 pm

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) and the Minnesota Vikings introduced Minnesotans to the five architectural firms bidding on the State’s new multi-purpose stadium tonight at Mall of America Field. Representatives from AECOM, Ewing Cole, HKS, HNTB and Populous gave attendees a look at their firm’s previous sports projects before allowing guests to ask questions in an open house setting.

“A top priority for us as the public body has been to keep the people of Minnesota informed throughout the stadium design and construction process,” said MSFA Chair Michele Kelm-Helgen. “Tonight’s event was a perfect opportunity to introduce Minnesotans to some of the top stadium architects in the world and give the public a sense of the expertise these firms can bring to the project.”

“This is a critical moment in the stadium process,” said Vikings Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development Lester Bagley. “Selecting an architect is a paramount decision to ensuring this stadium works for the State, the Vikings and our fans. We have no doubt each of these firms can deliver a first-class facility for Minnesota.”

Each of the five firms will have a chance to present their proposals to the Stadium Authority and the Vikings in the coming days. The joint selection of a stadium architect will take place later this month, after which the vision for this multi-purpose facility will begin to take shape.

    Hopefully the best one is chosen and not the cheapest.

    This needs to be the greatest stadium ever to be built. No cutting corners.

    The Fan Rally date is still in question. The link above states that it occurs on 9/8, but the only date referenced in the article is the game on 9/9. At the bottom of the article it says the time that the rally will occur, but does not make clear which day it is on!

    The fans should have a say in this, were the people using it! they should be asking what the fans want in a stadium! make us happy!

    IMPOSTER-I really thought you were done with this behavior. Those last few posts were not mine-they were from the imposter-and I don’t believe Rock Salt to be behind this.

    Give it a break Titus. We all know that the imposter is really you posing as an imposter, posing as yourself. You just need attention, that’s all. Man, this site sucks.

    Ready for some Vikings football. Glad to hear the stadium is moving along. Thinking it should be moving a bit faster for a 2016 opening. Go Vikings.

    @Titus,

    It’s probably time to change your blogger name…for good. I am sure I have reacted negatively to some of the “Titus” posts. I don’t remember Titus being a big bragger, yet on a lot of the Titus posts he is!

    You always did make lots of predictions. Jones is okay with that because he does the same!!!

    The stadium needs to look attractive. Don’t make it so that the outside looks horrible but the inside looks fantastic. Both sides need to show that appeal that will attract Viking fans to the stadium. The Stadium needs to look 2012, not 2002.

    Er, I guess 2016 and not 2006…

    I really miss all the open space for tailgating, they built too many parking ramps so I quit going. Because the ones that were left jacked their prices, sometimes it went up the following home game at the exact same lot. We the working class support the team fully. Sure some corporations buy tickets and give them away for the tax write off. I buy them to use myself. So we need way more full tailgating that we can cook, eat drink and have fun all while being responsible adults. So please make this new stadium a world class building that will last at lest 50-75 years. Do not let a few irresponsible intoxicated fans ruin the whole tailgating experience for the majority. Thanks.. Tim & SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!!

    Rocksalt, do not hide your head in the sand, something may come up and bite you in the A-S-S. If that is you and not the imposter, I will be off line all day from this time on so any more posting will not be me.
