The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) and the Minnesota Vikings introduced Minnesotans to the five architectural firms bidding on the State’s new multi-purpose stadium tonight at Mall of America Field. Representatives from AECOM, Ewing Cole, HKS, HNTB and Populous gave attendees a look at their firm’s previous sports projects before allowing guests to ask questions in an open house setting.
“A top priority for us as the public body has been to keep the people of Minnesota informed throughout the stadium design and construction process,” said MSFA Chair Michele Kelm-Helgen. “Tonight’s event was a perfect opportunity to introduce Minnesotans to some of the top stadium architects in the world and give the public a sense of the expertise these firms can bring to the project.”
“This is a critical moment in the stadium process,” said Vikings Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development Lester Bagley. “Selecting an architect is a paramount decision to ensuring this stadium works for the State, the Vikings and our fans. We have no doubt each of these firms can deliver a first-class facility for Minnesota.”
Each of the five firms will have a chance to present their proposals to the Stadium Authority and the Vikings in the coming days. The joint selection of a stadium architect will take place later this month, after which the vision for this multi-purpose facility will begin to take shape.
