Vikings Representatives Visit 49ers New Stadium Site And Sales Center

Posted by Mike Wobschall on August 10, 2012 – 5:29 pm

Several Vikings executives took advantage of tonight’s first preseason game in San Francisco by spending the morning at the 49ers new stadium construction site and corresponding sales center in Santa Clara. The 49ers, approximately two years ahead of the Vikings and the stadium project in Minnesota, expect to open the facility in time for the 2014 season.

With construction in Santa Clara well underway, the excitement among the 49ers fan base is building. In order to give fans a true feel for the new home, the 49ers opened a sales center near the construction site. Vikings officials toured the interactive space that includes a full mock suite and a complete model of the open-air stadium. Similar to Minnesota’s new stadium, the 49ers facility will boast much wider concourses, a significantly larger footprint and many new fan amenities. During the tour, fans get eye-opening comparable views of the 49ers current Candlestick Park to corresponding areas in the new Santa Clara facility. One particular point of interest for team executives was a touch-screen map depicting all the various transportation routes from fans’ homes to the parking lots at the new stadium.

Vikings fans can expect a similar setup in Minnesota in the coming months and years. With an RFP set to be issued for an architect in the coming week or two, the Vikings and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) are quickly moving ahead to ensure the project opens on time and on budget in 2016.

That was not fun. Defense was terrible and Offense, not much better. Our best receivers were Tight Ends Rudolph and Ellison. Only bright spots were Ponder, and Toby and a few others. How can you not score a TD in a preseason game.
Very dissapointed, but still hoping things will improve.

  134. By Vikes4Life on Aug 10, 2012 | Reply

not a horrible outing by the 1’st team O. They looked fairly poised. Can’t say a lot about the D, since the best D-men were out. Overall, Ponder looked alright, Webb stunk the joint up, Audie Cole may have a place on the team, and McLeod John Bethlazar Bethel-Thompson, might take Joe Webbs Job. Ponder needs to keep doing what he’s doing. Webb needs to stop doing a McNabb impersonation, and Paul Allen needs to replace Joe Buck.
Not a great showing, but showed us who is who and who is not.

I was happy with the first team offense tonight. I was really happy with Ponder to Rudolph, that might be a common sight in 2012. Liked what I saw from some of the young guys, especially our two first rounders. I also think we might have a couple of diamonds in the rough.

The Defense looked bad, but so many of the quality guys were out. Allen, Winny, B-Rob, Williams, Greenway, all did not play. I wouldn’t expect a bunch of backups to stop the SF running attack. Let’s hope the Vets can step the D up when they suit up. I did like what I saw from Smith and Cole.

I still thing Webb has a lot of talent. Watch the game and note the guy had no time in the pocket, no time to throw, many of his throws were with his feet not set as a result. Give him time with the 1’s and I think he has a shot to do just as much as Ponder can.

  149. By Mike B. on Aug 10, 2012 | Reply

Vikes4Life Although I am a big Ponder backer I wouldn’t read too much into the first game of the Preseason. I would just look at the good things and those things we need to get better at. The bad things make changes. We weren’t going to show the Niners our entire offense as we replay them in the regular season.

    @Mike B,

    Thanks for recognizing me.

Hopefully 5 good offensive linemen will come forward out of the group they currently have on the team. Perhaps some of the young guys will get better.

With lack of money…that is all we have.

Way too early to make firm evaluations, but Webb is doing what he has been prone to do for two years. And this new QB looks really good. Imagine if he were behind Kalil, Sullivan and the rest of the starting O Line– and give him a year to develop.

    RichardA,

Here’s hoping Eliminian and Cole get better and better before the first regular season game.

8-8 is still possible, we might not beat the SF’s of the NFL this year.

We will beat the Niners at the dome. I guarantee it.

This game was more than I expected. Frazier wanted to see his talent, but not play his best players on defense and keep his offense healthy. 10-6 baby!!!

And now it appears I’m on timeout just for trying to figure out what it was that was being blocked….

…and now it’s lifted. Whatever, I’ll figure out how to post what I was intending on a future blog that’s not so overloaded.

Not exactly excited about this game…I DO NOT like the way Aldon Smith breezed past Matt Kalil right away and sent Ponder running for his life, like last year. He’s supposed to be our cornerstone.. supposed to be manhandlin dudes out here. Can’t win em all I guess but still…Simpson drops a simple pass…ok, only a 4 yard gain anyway….WAIT!!!!
Where the F#$K is our run defense AT?
oh wait….nice completion to Burton…Actually it was more of an impressive catch than throw….
    Gerhart is a beast.
Elimimian is our guy. That’s all I will say.

The entire defense was scared of Brandon Jacobs. Especially Mistral Raymond How are you a safety but afraid of hitting the RB. All in all, the offense looks better, well the first team offense. The defense will give up a lot of points this year I can tell so I hope the offense can get in to gear this season. And by that I mean I hope Adrian Peterson can get back as soon as possible.

San Fran looked good from 1st string through 4th both offense and defense. . Vikes looked OK 1st string offense. Either Vikes have considerably less depth, Vikes players wishing to make the team not fired up,or team not prepared.
