Daily Improvement, Developing Young Players Among Frazier’s Priorities In Camp
Posted by on July 26, 2012 – 12:45 pmVikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier beat most of his coaching staff and players to Mankato on Thursday as the Vikings reported to 2012 Verizon Vikings Training Camp on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. This is Frazier’s sixth training camp with the Vikings, but he enters this season with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for a variety of reasons.
“It’s great to be back in Mankato,” Frazier said. “It was great for our football team to have an offseason to be able to put some things in place before we came back.”
Last year as this time, NFL teams embarked on compressed training camp schedules plus plenty of unfamiliarity because of the work stoppage that eliminated offseason programs. This year, though, offseason programs resumed, which was beneficial to all teams but especially to teams featuring young QBs and young rosters in general.
“We have a lot of work to do, as well all know,” Frazier said. “We have a lot of new faces that are going to be on our football team that are going to be starting for us and playing for us, so as a staff one of the things we’ve talked about and leading up to training camp some of the things we’ve talked about were developing the young players on our football team and trying to get those guys to be ready for that Jacksonville game and to help us throughout the season.
“And then just working to improve throughout training camp. That’s the goal, to try to improve every single day in some phase. If we can do that, we’re hoping everything can come together and we can get off to a good start and have a good football season. We have a lot of work to do, but we’re excited to be down here to kickoff the 2012 season.”
Frazier was quick to credit Vikings fans, the city of Mankato and the University for their support of the team each year during training camp.
“This is my sixth year coming down here, and the fans have always been great,” Frazier commented. “We’ve always had great participation and the people here in Mankato have been just tremendous in their support. We had a chance to get to know some of the people here on campus as well, and they’ve been so supportive.”
Frazier said the Vikings will take care of administrative duties, operational issues and physicals with the players today, followed by the first team meeting later this evening. The Vikings will hold a walk-thru Friday morning and then their first practice will be on Friday at 2:45 p.m. CT.

I dont understand the “analysts” criticisms of the Vikings? They say we have taken step backwards, that we are the worst team in the league, and that Ponder is a bust. But i see the complete opposite. We improved our O-line, I believe we had a good draft, and added better WRs than last years roster.
I cant wait to get on the field. I truly believe that we have made improvements and our record will show it.
We just better not get swept by the division again!!! Although the two games against Detroit were total bull so was that last game against Chicago, and if our secondary didnt blow so many coverages against the Packers we could have won that first game in Ponder’s first start.

The beginning of the season is so critical for the Vikings. I’m sure hoping for maybe a 3-1 start. With so many young players, their confidence is key early on. Coach seems to be fielding alot of questions about Percy. I sure hope his mind is in the right spot. If they start out well, I see 9 or 10 wins.

Spencer, I asked the same thing on another blog..
Will Mike W. show us some video on the training camp? Would like to see what is on, without traveling all the way to Mankato., Don’t have the time or monies.

Just can hardly wait to see footage of Kalil mixing it up with Allen one on one in practice too see if the kid can hold his own against the big dog in Allen. Last season Jared just abused C. Johnson at LT in practice and for that matter anyone else that lined up against him in practices or games.
By Bluebird7 on Jul 26, 2012 | Reply
QB, You say a 3-1 start? That means we beat the 49ers and lose to Detroit?
By sandiamond on Jul 26, 2012 | Reply
pad practice starts monday with 1st pre-season game only 11 days after… wow!
By QB on Jul 26, 2012 | Reply
Bluebird7, I’ll take either one of those or both. An early division win on the road is huge, but I like the Vikes chances at home anytime, even against the 49ers defense. I think if the Vikings have any playoff hopes, a lot of tie breakers will come in to play so that said, if I get my wish for 3-1 start, I’ll take a non conference loss.

The 49ers play at Green Bay week one and the Lions at home week two. They most likely lose to GB, and the Lions will want revenge for losing to them at home last year. It’s possible the 49ers could come into Metrodome 0-2.
Is three weeks enough time for Randy Moss to completely poison that locker room?
Is Alex Smith gonna play like Alex Smith 2011 or Alex Smith 2005-2010?
We might catch them in full meltdown mode, or at least desperation mode.

Spencer, that is poor reasoning because it is superficial at best. I will make it a little more complex. Just because the Bills have not been in the playoffs for a while precludes a multitude of intangibles. First off, they have a proud heritage and have been working feverishly to rebuild their team to get back to the playoffs.
They are an outdoor team in a more brutal environment which gives them a significant edge over the Falcons, especially as a catalyst to reach deep into the playoffs. Except for the Saints, the Falcons do not have much competition in their division– Buffalo must play the Patriots and Jets every year– both Superbowl contenders the past several years. The Bills improved their team in the draft and free agency, especially on defense. And last year, the Bills beat the Patriots– almost twice. They started 5-0 and this year I expect they will go much further. Wait and see– Titus is not joking on this one.

WE all need to be positive ONCE in a great while on here instead of looking for the bad all the time.
LOOK FOR THE GOOD IN EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING!
Why? Because that is what winners do. You have a choice to pick the positive or the negative, why not pick the positive. It will cost you nothing.
