Harvin: “See U At Mankato”
Posted by on June 21, 2012 – 7:20 pmThursday was a good day at Winter Park, for many reasons.
The Vikings wrapped up their mandatory minicamp and their successful nine-week offseason program with a late-morning practice under nearly ideal weather conditions. Voice of the Vikings Radio Network Paul Allen hosted his weekday 9-noon radio show from a deck outside of the Wilf office. Zygi and Mark Wilf were in the house to take in the action and visit with some VIPs.
Oh, and Percy Harvin was on the field and in good spirits after practice.
Harvin had voiced some displeasure earlier in the week and did not practice with the team on Wednesday. Vikings GM Rick Spielman met with reporters on Wednesday to address the situation, and Head Coach Leslie Frazier spoke with Harvin to work through the issues.
Harvin, one of the Vikings best players, returned to the field on Thursday and worked sharply with QB Christian Ponder and the offense. Following practice, Harvin (@Percy_Harvin) took to Twitter with a message that settled down much of the buzz.
Here is Harvin’s tweet: “I’m really clueless on the crazy reports…had great prac today ….to all my real fans and real vikes fans see u at Mankato..salute”
Harvin and several of his teammates are featured in this cool highlight video we posted after Thursday’s practice. Check it out.

Alright, back to my Viking comment! Lets give them a awesome nickname, purple people eaters is for the team from the 60′s-70′s, and sometimes the announcer’s call them the purple eaters, why not think up a new name, Purple Punch, Dragon Heads, something knew that can add to the outstanding year they will have? Oscar award winning Harvin, I thought he was gone, some kind of dis information? and (my off season rant) Solomon Elimimien, if he can make it through the text book, just going thru the motions part of training, and make it to where they are using pads, and shows how good of a hitter he is, he is going to clean up on the offenses! seasons comming, closer and closer. Bring on the competition!!!

Hmmm with Percy’s tweet, that almost but confirms my original thought that once again that so-called “source” was full of BS! Probably a Cheesebilly lover in Purple clothing (aka Mark Craig) stirring the pot and fabricating to write a propaganda story! If you are a “source” then MAN UP and say who you are. If you don’t or can’t, then you are either fabricating, or are supposed to be quite on the subject and not to be saying anything on the situation yet! The FCC should implement a regulation that states if you report a story and cite sources, those sources must be named, otherwise, don’t report the story or be fined heavily!

Spencer, get a grip. Stop looking backward. Success always has a future orientation. Do not look at your past to predict your future. The past is only worthwhile for evaluation and learning.
By Vikingsfool on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
I’m of the other school of thought Titus. The past is the only thing that is real. The future can be full of hope and good intentions, but the past is the only thing that is set in stone. Like I said, the past is the only thing that is real, the rest is just speculation.

No fool- the past is gone. It is not real. It is over. Future orientation is the mindset of all champions in any field throughout history– study it out and then get back to me.
By Vikingsfool on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
What insight into our psyche. I understand what you’re saying, but as a history guy, I see the past as the only thing that has happened. The future is only in our minds, it has’nt happened yet. That is why the past is the only thing that is real, so it is the only thing we can go by. ON THE OTHER HAND, as bad as 3-13 was, there were and have been signs (in the past) that things are going to get better. So, one can still have hope for the future.
By sandiamond on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
for the vikings this opening game against the jags is past, present and future. Frazier mentioned it several times like a super bowl coming up. I get the feeling those first few games will set the tone for the whole season
By Vikingsfool on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
Take Ponder for example. Many are thinking that he is a bust, while some are thinking he’ll be fine. Here is why, all his bloopers, are in the past. We cannot make a prediction on him untill we see him do something to change our minds. In order for that to happen, he has to prove it. Those actions have to happen, and once they do, they are in the past. Are you understanding what I’m getting at. What has already happened is the only thing we can truly go by when predicting a new outcome.
By Vikingsfool on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
Absolutely Sandiamond! I couldn’t agree more. I have to wonder how different things would have been last year, had the vikings won those first three games.

By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
I had a so-so day yesterday. Do I look at it and predict today will be the same? Or do I look at my goals and craft today’s schedule accordingly? Fool, I am very well-versed in history– I am talking about the principles and pathways to better outcomes. The only reality is that which you draw upon as you navigate the present time period– always revolving, always disappearing… Are you being pulled toward the future or held back by the past? Vikings will do well this year– I predict at least 9 wins.
By New Vike on Jun 22, 2012 | Reply
@Vikingsfool – I have to agree. Mistakes are going to happen and are the greatest learning tool. I am glad they happened during a season that was pretty much in the books before he took a snap. Now he has to show us something, and judgement can be made from there. More mistakes are inevitable, but he will be judged on how he handles them and how he prevents them from re-occuring. I believe he has some game in him. I dont think he will ever be a top 3 qb in the league, but if he is a perrenial top 10 qb i believe the Vikes will go places, and after a very solid draft, it could be sooner rather than later.

@ Titus, I don’t completely disagree with what your saying. From my p.o.v, the past happens, but still leaves promise for the future. As for the queenies, the past was so bad, that there is hope for tomorrow. Basically, it can’t get much worse, so will likely get better. As far as what is more real, past or future, analysts predict a poor 2012 vikings because they played poorly in 2011. They also predict great things for G.B, NY etc, because they did great things in recent past. In other words, I think we are both right.

I remember Culpepper was huge compared to most players and we went on an offense vs defense scrimmage. It seems to me the charge was minimal if not free, I remember after the scrimmage all the fans lined up along a 4 foot high chain link fence and got autographs from the players. Randy Moss took a child out of the crowd and put him on his shoulders while he signed autographs. Everybody was quiet and polite like minnesotans are, so what ever the price, it was well worth it.

The 49ers had a great defense last year, and I recall hearing that all their starters are returning this year. They also made some major upgrades to an offense that was a part of a team that made it to the NFC Championship game.
They’re one of the best teams in the NFL right now, and some of the smarter bloggers are just acknowledging that with their predictions.

@ Titus. I hope you are just joshing about Cunningham. You have to be, he did not play here very long and only had that one good season. And how can anyone compare any previous vikings QB to Supertark? That one should be so easy, no Vikings QB has ever held a torch to Sir Francis Tarkenton. Favre was good for one year, Kramer was on again off again good, and Dante was only as good as Randy Moss was. So please tell me your kidding.

Let the nickname come after the d proves themselves. And as far as the 49ers not being a good team– need I remind anyone how great their defense was last year? They shut down Brees and really, the Niners were one fumble from advancing to the Superbowl– they were right on the edge. Great D, good, experienced and young quarterback, good running game, and lots of playmakers. They are the team to beat.
By VegasVike on Jun 23, 2012 | Reply
10-4 Titus. They (like the 09 Vikes) are just a player or two away from being the NFC team to beat. We gambled on Favre and it paid off, they’re gambling on Moss…. Will it pay off for them as well??

I don’t understand? J.Allen is in there every play almost sacking the QB, how come the rest of the D line is not getting any better? has anybody played on a team, they are keying on J. Allen, that leaves a lot of opportunity for the other players to make more or stand out plays. I think they are leaning on J. Allen or taking advantage of there situation and taking it easy. That is to bad, they could really excel if they did things right.

Now we know who ruined the Vikings for all those years.
“To Vikings fans of a certain age, Lynn is the dupe responsible for one of the most lopsided trades in sports history. The team’s general manager from 1975 to 1990 acquired washed-up running back Herschel Walker from Dallas in 1989 in exchange for five players and seven draft choices — a transaction that helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls.”

If the Vikings do finish 8-8, it would be a successful season, and a great progression for the future.
Teams do not go 3-13 to 10-6 very often. It’s a good way to get people depressed to expect that.

I believe that with all the high choices at DB in camp we will have a decent defensive backfield. The defensive line should be okay.
We now have two holes at LB. The OL has 3 or 4 holes.
Kicker may be a sore spot.
The Vikings will be fortunate to finish 8-8.

Fred – I must disagree with you on “holes” around the team. We have one at LB, and a weak joint next to it. The OL has maybe 1 hole and another weak joint, but that has yet to be determined.
The biggest hole right now is at the second safety spot. We have high hopes for a rookie on one side, but we have no clue if there’s a capable player to stand along side him. His college teammate is expected to earn the spot, but will likely need a year or two to learn the new position.

DeerTracks – What’s the likelihood that it actually gets to Louisiana? That would really suck for the country to go through another big relief fund for a city that’s udner water more often than not.

New Defense Nick-Name: The Berzerkers
Berserkers (or berserks) were Norse warriors who are reported in the Old Norse literature to have fought in a nearly uncontrollable, trance-like fury, a characteristic which later gave rise to the English word berserk
