Submit Your Pick 6 Questions

Posted by Mike Wobschall on June 12, 2012 – 8:18 am

Our brand-new Pick 6 (video mailbag) segment, which appears mid-week on vikings.com, is off and running. We’ll be back later today with another edition, but we still need a couple more questions to add.

You can submit a question by emailing me (wobschallm@vikings.nfl.net) or leaving the question in the comments section below this entry. Remember to list your name and town with all questions.

If you haven’t yet done so, check out previous installments of Pick 6. Last week’s edition was a WR exclusive version, with Vikings WRs coach George Stewart joining to help answer questions.

With all of the CB’s we have and positions at secondary, who is showing the most signs of progress? I know that there is going to be a lot of competition at these positions and am really wondering where is the toughest competition at these positions right now? Between which players?

Solomon Elimimien the linebacker from Canada, how is he doing? is he going to make the team?

  3. By Mike Wobschall on Jun 12, 2012 | Reply

On the CB question, it’s tough to point to a few individuals who are standing out because there are so many players who have performed well so far. I don’t want to single anyone out at this point. But Brian is right that the competition is good.

On Elimimian, he’s looked good. I really like the enthusiasm with which he plays and I’m looking forward to watching him play this summer both at next week’s minicamp and during training camp.

Thanks for submitting questions, everyone. We have enough for this week’s episode, but are always open for more questions to use in either next week’s Monday Morning Mailbag or next week’s Pick 6.

Why is Joe Webb not starting, at QB? He’s been the back up for four years.

  10. By Mike B. on Jun 12, 2012 | Reply

@Will some plsyers send their entire careers as backups. Joe Webb is a #2 QB a very talented player, but not a starter.

Just because you are in your contract year doesn’t mean you will be better. I would like to hear some real news on how Loadholt is doing. No news is not good news.

I would hate to think that a player plays better just because they are in their contract year. We don’t need part-time players.

Which of the young LBs looks better in pass coverage? Is Brinkley still doing extra work with the DB coach?

How are the young safeties looking? Between Raymond and Blanton who do you think will be starting next to Smith?

PLEASE STFU about Webb bein the starter !!! Everyone knows hes a runner first and passer second. Go whack off to footage of Vick if you like watching a RB try to play QB.

    @@NorthwoodsVikeFan,

Thank you for responding to my post.

The guard must also handle the “speedrusher,” because they do stunts on a regular basis to try to get pressure on the QB. In addition some of those DTs are pretty darn quick.

The Vikings need 5 Offensive Linemen who can perform all the blocks. It does not matter that much whether you are a guard or a tackle, both must be quick and strong.

Wobby being as Simpson will be suspended for the first 3 games does it mean the Vikings will be able to carry a extra man on the 53 man roster?

Wobby did you not respond to the waffle question because Loadholt is a pancake man?

Who do you see emerging as a sleeper to make team at LB. Does young Singletary have a shot for practice squad

I would like to know more about how the rookies are doing in camp (Kalil, Robinson, Blanton, Wright, Smith, etc.) For instance, how’s Smith looking thus far? Does he look like a possible starter for this season? Is Childs practicing again yet? Has Robinson been guarding any first-stringers from last season? …and if so…how did he look? When Robinson played D or returned a punt, what did his speed look like to you?

Going into the draft it appeared that the DB’s and WR’s were the concern as the Vikings main weaknesses. After seeing OTAs, would you say that we won’t be revisiting the same positions in future drafts. Also, who will likely be the starter in place of WR Jerome Simpson for the first 3 games during his suspension?

The Nfc north is arguably the toughest division in the Nfl, With a young secondary, how can we prevent being exploited? Secondly, Rodgers, Stafford and Cutler are three quarterbacks that Ponder will be expected to show up. Do you think we should sign a Veteran QB so our Franchise QB can have a “Role Model”?

With Jasper Brinkely having little playing time in his carreer why hasnt Frazier considered moving Erin Henderson to MLB while Brinkely moves to the right side and stop the run?

Dan, I thought I heard that Singletary was cut????

  33. By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Jun 13, 2012 | Reply

Actually, there is no mention of him being signed at all – must not have impressed at the mini rookie camp.

  34. By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Jun 13, 2012 | Reply

Frederick – I agree, today’s NFL lineman needs quickness and strength, regardless of position, but the LT/RT positions need even more speed because of the open path to the QB on the outside of them.

Unless you assign a TE or a RB to help on the outside, the tackle is on his own.

I’m just frustrated at the lack of information about Loadholt’s current status. I would IMAGINE they are doing extensive speed drills to improve his reading of the defense, his reaction time, and his footwork, but right now that’s all I can do – imagine – since nobody is saying anything about him.

Other than Jared Allen, whom I hope will have a repeat of last season, How has Kevin Williams looked at OTA’s or has he even shown up? Wondering why we haven’t heard anything on him. How does the rest of the DL look? A Viking fan of 45 years I have always believed the DL to be the heart of our football team. I do have Concerns about our DL.

I read somewhere that Greg Childs was considered one of the best recievers for this draft before his injury his junior year. Does the vikings staff expect Childs to be a starter? Considering that Harvin is more of a slot reciever and Jenkins hasn’t been the best, is it possible that Childs could step up and be that deep recieving threat we’ve all wanted?

I like what we doing this year, we evaluation the talent we have. We drafted , picked up free agents, and it no excuses now! If we have a mediocore or a so-so year, we got some bodies on your staff who can’t pick out talent! I expect us to be 9-7 or no less than 8-8-.

There has been rumors that Michael Jenkins could be cut before the season starts. If so, that leaves somewhat of a void at WR because of Simpsons suspension. What WR do you see stepping up to start if Jenkins is cut? Wright? Aromashodu? Childs?

Answer Gabriel’s question. Erin played in most of the nickle defence last year. So it is not far off to think he could play MLB in the base defence.
