Vikings To Host Special Olympics Minnesota Athletes For PPK Clinic

Posted by Mike Wobschall on June 6, 2012 – 7:23 am

The outdoor practice fields at Winter Park will get quite the workout on Wednesday, as 50 Special Olympics Minnesota (SOM) athletes from across the state will join Vikings players for a fun Punt, Pass and Kick Clinic following Organized Team Activity #5.

The athletes will enjoy watching the team practice and then following practice they will take the field and participate in various punt, pass and kick stations. Following the clinic, players and coaches will stick around to sign autographs and appear in photos with the athletes and their families. Players scheduled to put on the clinic include: Christian Ballard, Chris Cook, Fred Evans, Everson Griffen, Christian Ponder, Cullen Loeffler, Matt Kalil, D’Aundre Reed, Jerome Simpson, Blair Walsh and Joe Webb.

The Punt, Pass and Kick Clinic is part of Special Olympics Minnesota’s ongoing relationship with the Vikings, providing new and meaningful opportunities for Special Olympics Minnesota athletes. Since 1973, SOM has been enhancing the human potential and quality of life for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by offering year-round sports training and competition.  By sharing their joy and courage, SOM athletes inspire the human spirit in all of us.

Exceptionally happy to see Chris Cook volunteer his time for the Special Olympics folks, even if someone else “suggested” he do it !
If it was his idea all the better !
Jerome Simpson has so far been nothing short of “perfect”. I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about him.
I had the mistaken impression of him being something of the typical WR “diva”.
However so far EVERYTHING I’ve seen including his college highlight piece where he goes and hands the ball to the ref. after about every play, OLDSCHOOL–I LOVE IT, he has been NOTHING SHORT OF THE PERFECT CITIZEN,NEW GUY ON TEAM etc.
Here is to a VERY long and successful VIKING career for Joe Simpson, Chris Cook, and all of the VIKES…..
Be sure to watch the video clip of the both of them from today’s OTA, they BOTH were doing it the right way, Simpson just made a GREAT catch.

I would like to see a section on the actual training the Vikings are doing.

You know as in running, lifting weights, running hills, and all that other “old school” stuff that helps you win championships!

Vince Lombardi became famous because he placed an emphasis on conditioning. Are the Vikings doing that?

    Oh yeah…I’m sure they are!

Yes fred, with this young group conditioning will be key!! Thou youngsters shall play all four quarters! im still baffled by the pack losing four kickers in one year. good trivia fact.
