Vikings To Resume OTAs On Tuesday

Posted by Mike Wobschall on June 4, 2012 – 6:56 am

Last week the energy level ramped up at Winter Park, as the Vikings launched Organized Team Activities (OTAs) with practices on Tuesday-Thursday. This week the OTAs will continue with three more practices on the same days.

To review last week’s coverage, click here.

We’ll cover this week’s OTAs in similar fashion to last week, with exclusive access to Tuesday and Thursday practices. The Wednesday practice is open to the media, and we’ll have coverage for you that day as well. We’ll record a Wobcast early in the week and then another edition of Pick 6 – this edition is a WR exclusive edition with a special guest on-hand to help answer questions – will be posted mid-week.

This week is the seventh of the team’s nine-week offseason program and it’s the second week of Phase 3 of the program.

I don’t know, wouldn’t 24 hour lock down until season starts be better, I mean they get paid enough, 24 hour football. Noone can cover Harvin & Simpson at the same time.

  3. By Mike B. on Jun 4, 2012 | Reply

    @DeerTracks a whoopie qualifies as a first.

Try to cover Harvin (flanker), Simpson (splitend), Rudolph (TE), J Wright (slot) and AP out of the backfield all at the same time.

Holy Cow! The Vikings’ O could be outstanding. Frazier and Musgrave have some quality playmakers to work with..

please report if J. Felton is at OTA tomorrow. thanks

I just don’t understand how you can be out drinking all night when you are trying to make an NFL 53 man roster?

I can understand letting your hair down after you make the cut… but out all night during OTAs????

everybody in camp is at least 21 so take the purple taxi!! (free ride) coaches shouldn’t care or look down on you if they make it available to players

I think some players believe they are above getting busted stupid mistake probably wasn’t going to make team anyways we dont need a FB AP is better with no fullback back there to be honest.

Justin Blackmon got busted too (2nd DUI) what was he thinking being such a high pick?

  10. By Viking-ology on Jun 4, 2012 | Reply

Carl K-yes the coaching staff has some exciting playmakers to work with. Lets hope it isn’t the traditional vanilla run-run-pass offense. They need to be creative and put a scare in opponents defenses.

I wonder if we are limited to how many postings a day– some form of control with the idea everyone gets an equal share of expression.

It would be interesting to count the number of postings you do and see if that is the case– part of me thinks my hypothesis is off, but just a thought.

AP might be better without a fullback but Gerhart is better with a fullback.
D’imperio had a solid game at fullback against Denver and that just happened to be Toby Gerharts brake out game of his career.

It appeared Toby was better later in the year as D’imperio got more playing time???

Maybe we can dig up rushing stats for both of our RBs with and without a fullback in the backfield?

I understand that these players are all human and have faults and vices that befall them but GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK!!! Partying, drinking and that type of behavior is not acceptable- especially if it is going to effect the ability to play and to contribute to the team in any aspect. Save the freaking party’s until the off-season. Big difference between having a beer with the guys after work and pulling an all-nighter of partying. Justin Blackmon is now showing his true colors… Hmm, Let’s hope the Vikes can reel in any players who are tip-towing around this issues. Vikes do not need any more drama, especially when things are progressing. Time to focus boys. GET R DONE! I bleed purple… Nuf said…

Before you can use a FB, you have to have an effective O Line, folks. The FB is supposed to lead the ball carrier through the gap and hit the first guy he sees in the defensive backfield. If there is no gap, or as was often the case for the Vikes, the D Line was already in our backfield as the FB approached the line, their usefullness is limited.

IF our line can open up some gaps to run through, of COURSE a FB is useful. If there is one less LB to tackle AP, I would think he’d have more success.

It ALL starts with the O Line.

I don’t know why anyone couldn’t expect everyone else to be able to do the same, (or shèll out the money for a cab, call friends/family for a ride, or just ask the bärtender if you can spend the night in the back-allëy). I had seen a special on TV about Blackmon a few months before the draft that made it appear as if he had turned his life around and became a cläss-citizen. At that point, I was excited as to our potential of drafting him. Now I’m disgüsted. This is his second offense, and you can bet that he’s gotten away with it MANY more times than he’s been caught. One of these days, he’s going to mangle or kïll somebody, and then it will be too late.

He’s a repeat offender, so it’s ignörant for anyone to believe he’ll change his ways after getting caught a second time. Fõõl me once, shame on you…

    YAY CISPA

House Pas’ses Controversial Cybersecurity Measure CISPA

The House on Thursday approved cybersecurity legislation that privacy groups have decried as a threat to civil liberties.

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, sponsored by Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Michigan) and Du’tch Ru’ppersberger (D-Maryland), pas’sed on a vote of 248 to 168.

Its goal is a more secure internet, but privacy groups fear the measure breaches Americans’ privacy along the way. The White House had weighed in on Wednesday, threatening a veto unless there were significant changes to increase consumer privacy. The bill was amended to provide more privacy protections, but it was not immediately clear whether the Senate or the White House would give the amended bill its ble’ssing.

The measure, which some are calling the Son of SOPA, allows internet service providers to share information with the government, including the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency, about cybersecurity threats it detects on the internet. An ISP is not required to shield any personally identifying data of its customers when it believes it has detected threats, which include attack signatures, malicious code, phishing sites or botnets. In short, the measure seeks to undo privacy laws that generally forbid ISPs from disclosing customer communications with anybody else unless with a court order.

The bill immunizes ISPs from privacy lawsuits for voluntarily disclosing customer information thought to be a security threat. Internet companies are also granted anti-trust protection to immunize them against allegations of colluding on cybersecurity issues. The measure is not solely limited to cybersecurity, and includes the catchall phrase “national security” as a valid reason for turning over the data.

CISPA also allows ISPs to bypa’ss privacy laws and share data with fellow ISPs in a bid to promptly extinguish a cyberattack.

Moments before the vote was taken during a daylong hearing, Rogers urged his colleagues to “stand up for America. Support this bill.” He said those who were opposing the measure — groups that include the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation — were practicing “obfu’scation.”

The bill’s supporters include Microsoft, Facebook, AT&T, Verizon, Ora’cle and many others.

The ACLU quickly bla’sted the measure’s pas’sage. They and other groups said Americans’ private data should not be shared with the military, and that data sent to the government should be anonymized as much as possible to protect privacy.

“Cybersecurity does not have to mean abdication of Americans’ online privacy. As we’ve seen repeatedly, once the government gets expansive national security authorities, there’s no going back. We encourage the Senate to let this horrible bill fade into obscurity,” said Miche’lle Richardson, ACLU legislative counsel.

Some last-minute amendments included making non-national-security data subject to the Freedom of Information Act, sunsetting the measure after five years and barring the government (.pdf) from reviewing library, firearms, tax and medical records.

Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mas’sachusetts) during the debate seemingly agreed with the ACLU. “Could the government use that personal information to spy on Americans? Yes,” he said. Rep. Dan Boren (D-Oklahoma) wasn’t convinced: “The government is not the enemy,” he said.

Amendments to remove language allowing the information-sharing in the name of “national security,” and to remove the NSA from the agencies receiving the data, never made it to the House floor.

The measure is now headed for the Senate. If it pas’ses there, it will go to the White House for approval or veto

How can any changes to this blog make things worse? The best story we get in 3 days is OTAs to resume on Tuesday. Really? That is it? 89 guys on the roster… coaches, players, trainers and scouts all at Mike’s finger tips… and he gets paid to tell us OTAs will continue on Tuesday – in what 50 word or less.

Then again, maybe it was Fred’s fetish with the Copy-paste function that instigated the change. Somebody in power got tired of seeing Fred repeat everything – word-for-word and now we’re all paying for it!

Green Bay Packers Players Urge Wisconsinites To Vote In Recall Elections
The Huffington Post | By Amanda Terkel

Green Bay Packers players are helping to get out the vote in the Wisconsin recall elections.
On Monday, wide receiver Tori Gurley and tight end Jermichael Finley tweeted their support for the labor movement in their state, noting that they are members of unions:
Cornerback Charles Woodson has also been an outspoken supporter of collective bargaining rights.
Six recall elections are being held in Wisconsin Tuesday, including one for governor. Republican Gov. Scott Walker, who backed controversial anti-union legislation in the state, faces a challenge from Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

I just completed an e-mail conversation with Wobby. It appears that he is unwilling to let us know what is causing our issues and/or wants to make us think that they are entirely our own fault. Here are a few exerpts from our conversation:

Wobby: Just talked to a couple of people and nothing has changed on our end…any comments that contain multiple links have a tendency to be filtered…So perhaps that’s the reason some of the readers’ comments are being blocked.

Me: Nope – My comments had no links in them when I got blocked…what other ends are there in the system that could contribute to the issue?

Wobby: The only other controlling entity with the blog is WordPress. Typically if they make changes to our account or to the blog itself, they will send an email notifying us of the change. No such email has been received…It’s nothing that’s been done on the back end…it’s something with the users…

Me: That’s ridiculous Mike. There’s no possibility that something changed with all of the users at the same time…That leaves me with two possible conclusions. First is that someone on your end is not telling you everything. The second is that you yourself are lying to me.

Wobby: I’ve told you all that I know about it.

Me: That’s not convincing Mike. If you had told me all that you know, I would have a comprehensive list of the rules of the blog…

Wobby: …There’s no chance I would give you the information you mentioned in your last email, much in the same way I would never email you and ask for the same information that applies to your place of employment.

Me: How is it detrimental to share the rules of the blog

Wobby: It may or may not be detrimental, but it is not necessary and won’t happen.

Mike, thanks for the changes. I like a clean house without all this partisan pollitics. I only wish they had cleaned house on the head coaching.

Here was Mike Wobschalls response to my earlier post …

To be honest with you Shawn we haven’t changed a thing on our end. This is the first time we’ve encountered a problem with the comments section of the blog. And to be frank, I went back and read the last 50 or so comments under the latest entry and I’m not surprised something has gone amiss. Many of the comments have nothing to do with the subject of the entry, or with the Vikings at all. I appreciate that you guys are active on the blog, and I’ve expressed my appreciation to you and others in the past, but I don’t appreciate how the discussion many times deviates away from the relevant topic and away from the Vikings in general. Some of the comments (not pointing a finger at you) are downright in appropriate as well.

I don’t know what to do to fix the problem, largely because I haven’t done anything to cause the problem. I will bring it to the attention of the appropriate people to see if they have a solution.

Thanks for taking the time to write,
    Mike

    OOPS ….

If Mike Wobschall is being honest than …. the new CISPA bill has had an effect on the web service = CENSORSHIP

If Wobschall is being deceitful then we are being CENSORED

EITHER WAY ITS CENSORSHIP CAUSED BY A FEW WHINERS WHO DONT LIKE FREE SPEECH, AMERICA, OR THE COSTITUTION …. WHICH TELLS ME WHO THE WHINERS ARE

Maybe if he had put forth the effort to provide an interesting subject, this wouldn’t be the case. Somehow the subject of “[Vikings won't be doing anything today]” doesn’t inspire much further discussion.

Shawn – Thank you for including me in your demonstration of how a topic-centered blog entry would go. I feel like I’m becoming part of the group.

  257. By Mike B. on Jun 5, 2012 | Reply

@Martin Webb must understand the situation as it stands or he would request a trade if he feels he’s been slighted. The fact remains that Webb is being regulated to a more traditional back up role. This is appropriate to give Ponder the leadership role he deserves. He should not have to worry about looking over his shoulder after any slip up. The coaching staff and organization are behind Ponder.

  258. By Carl K on Jun 5, 2012 | Reply

Rocksalt- i don’t oppose free speech, but I believe some things are better off left un-said.

I have no problem with differing points of views. And I have enjoyed seeing the personalities of some of the regulars here.

My beef is very simple… If Wobby would post 2 interesting blogs a day, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Webb has already stated he is aware of his backup QB role.
