Catch Coverage Of Vikings OTAs This Week

Posted by Mike Wobschall on May 29, 2012 – 6:24 am

The Vikings launch their first series of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) today, and vikings.com will be there every step of the way to cover the action and provide you with updates. The team will hold one OTA practice each day over the next three days, with Wednesday’s practice open to the media. Since today’s action is closed to the media, vikings.com will be your exclusive source for Vikings coverage.

Be sure to check back continuously today because we’ll bring you constant coverage, from written updates here on the vikings.com Blog to video highlights to player interviews.

Tuesday’s action marks the beginning of Phase 3 of the offseason program. Phase 3 is comprised of the final four weeks of the nine-week offseason program and will include 10 OTAs and a mandatory veteran minicamp in June.

17 DB’s is that right? after what happened last year they should all realize that just making the practice squad is Golden

Right on Wobby! I am ready for some football.

Top 4 position battles I am interested in.

1.RG: Geoff Schawrt or Brandon Fusco who will grab the starting spot?
2.WR: Who will be Ponders go to guy outside of Percy Harvin? M Jemkins, Simpson, Childs, Aromashodu, or Wright?
3.RB: Who will be the #3 back behind AP and Gerhart? Derrick Coleman is a fan favorite. Can he steal a roster spot from Lex Hilliard or Jordan Todman?
    4. DE: The #4 DE spot looks like a war between D’Aundre Reed, Nick Reed or Trevor Guyton.
    5. LB: WOW. This should be fun. Too many to even list.

    Schwartz or Fusco ?

    WR ?

    3rd RB ?

    Safeties ?

    THE EYE TEST !!!!!!!!!

    Sandi-
Triplett was cut in 2010. (bad 5th rd pick)
R Homan was also a bad 6th rd LB pick last year. (cut last year)
Both of these guys are not even on any teams 90 man roster.

Lets hope the Vikings’ late Rd LB this year (Audie Cole) has some game.

There are no linebackers on the current roster with any nfl exp except the 3 on paper starters. ( m i t c h e l l st exp) glaring hole the size of kansas! no possible way to switch the D to 3-4

  15. By sandiamond on May 29, 2012 | Reply

Rick Spielman what the heck? the free agent market was very soft for linebackers and you couldn’t even pick up one OLB for Pagac!

Cole MLB last year at NCSU
    Elim MLB from the CFL

  16. By Shawn on May 29, 2012 | Reply

Sandiamond … Tyler Nielsen is an OLB. Erin Henderson and Chad Greenway are durable. Audie Cole has played OLB and so has Mitche11.

    Jasper Brinkley
    Audie Cole
    Larry Dean
    Solomon Elimimian
    Tyrone McKenzie
    Tyler Nielsen
    Erin Henderson
    Marvin Mitche11
    Chad Greenway
    Corey Paredes

All of these guys are battling for 3 spots …. and if all else fails EJ is still available

Everson Griffen should get a chance at starting at a defensive end position. They talk about him as being this animal on the specialty teams. So why can’t he be the same in scrimmage?

  26. By Frederick Jones on May 29, 2012 | Reply

    @Shawn,

I hate the eye test because it depends on whose eyes were talking about. Last season we had lots of eye tests, very few of them panned out.

Maybe if Shawn did the eye tests, they might have some merit.

What have guys done in scrimmage? Did they knock down a pass? Did he run for 40 yards? Is he making good moves on the offensive line? Is his positioning good? Give me some hard facts.

Fred … I agree. The Minnesota Vikings are my drug …. Im an addict. I need more information. :)

    Pasztor…….OT
    Loadholt…..6′-8″
    WR # 85 Greg Childs….WILL BE A PRO-BOWL WR—-I don’t know how SOON, but put it in STONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WR # 81–is DEFINEATELY going to a huge help to this team. As will #17 Jarious Wright, wonder why he changed from #1

…All of these guys are battling for 3 spots ….

Shawn – No team in the NFL is going to have only 3 LBs on the roster. Historically, the Vikings have had 6 LBs come game day. With Greenway and Henderson locked in, that leaves 4 spots for the rest to be battling for, including one starting spot. Brinkley is the favorite there, but should get no guarantee.

I’m still concerned about who we have at LB, but knowing that we have one of the best LB coaches in the NFL makes that a bit less worrisome. He should be able to get some of these unknowns to really shine.

  41. By Parody on May 29, 2012 | Reply

Celtic – WRs in the NFL cannot wear any single digit numbers. They are required to wear a number from 10-19 or 80-89. Single digits are reserved for QBs and Kickers.

The 5 WR we will carry are:
    1. Percy Harvin
    2. Jerome Simpson, Michael Jenkins
    3. Greg Childs
    4. Jay Wright (Julius)
    5. Stephen Burton

The players I think will be cut are: Arcenneaux, Aromashadu, Kerry Taylor and Bryan Walters.
Michael Jenkins will get cut once Jerome Simpson comes off of suspension.
NFL is a tough game….you can be replaced at any moment.
Possible that one or two make the practice squad.

  45. By kevinwi on May 30, 2012 | Reply

someone asked why Wright switched from #1. NFL Receivers can only wear #’s 11-19 and 80-89
other numbers only allowed in preseason due to lack of numbers available.

  46. By kevinwi on May 30, 2012 | Reply

dern it….I meant Jarius, not Julius.

  47. By Dave on May 30, 2012 | Reply

Hard to say but I think the Vikes will keep 6 WR’s on the roster.
    Harvin
    Simpson
    Wright
    Childs
    Jenkins
and the last one is anyone’s guess.
