Happy Memorial Day, Vikings Fans

Posted by Mike Wobschall on May 28, 2012 – 6:24 am

Today is a day off for many of us. It’s a day to spend with family and friends enjoying the great outdoors or a ballgame or a preferred indoor activity if the weather is a bear. Today, for many, is the unofficial start of the summer vacation season.

But more importantly, today is Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed each year on the last Monday of May and it’s dedicated to remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It’s because of the bravery and courage of our service men and women that we as American citizens are able to enjoy luxuries such as freedom, security and even football.

So before you take the time to consume great Vikings content on or relax with family and friends on a day off, please take a moment to remember and honor the brave men and women who’ve given the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our safety and freedom.

Your thank you to the familes of miltary?

Too Bad your United States Government doesn’t feel or think that way! Are you and the rest of the country aware that when a Retired Miltary Verteran, such as myself dies, the widow has her Social Securty taken away? WHY?

Because she would then recieve half of his sorry amount of Retired Pay,Even tho she did earn the SS! These lying treacheous government pentilizes her for having been married to a Retired Military Comat Veteran!

Billions for Wall Street! Billions for Banks Bailout, Billions for Worthless Third World Countries!

And for Widows of Retired Veterans? Zero, Zero, Zero!!!

Deer Tracks– I am very very AWARE of the poor, disgusting lack of treatment afforded our veterans– I have a long history in my family of military accomplishments/heroes. What has poor government policy have ANYTHING to do with me thanking the families?

Did you know (I’m sure you do) that it’s NOT only Widow’s etc..
My Mom worked at the dept. of the Navy early in her life, and her last job was for the post office (don’t get me started) when she was FORCED TO RETIRE she LOST ALL HER ACCRUED RETIREMENT PAY, SOCIAL SECURITY, from the dept. of Navy because those _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _’ s CREATED A LAW AND CALLED IT “DOUBLE DIPPING’…….. While of course increasing their own at every turn……….

Deertracks, it is all cool. On some of my cycling I ride past the vet homes near Minnehaha falls and I think is that where someone ends up who puts his or her life on the line– who may be crippled or emotionally scarred? Ticks me off. And, really, I know some of you might get mad, I wonder then how we pay these kids to catch a pigskin millions while the kids (and the seasoned vets) are given a few pennies.

It’s backwards, I agree Titus, it has become normal reward those who provide us with entertainment (athletes, singers, actors, etc.) much more than those who provide necessary services. The only profession that is necessary and rewarded as such is the doctor.

How can you be proud of a killing machine that are and has through out most of history fought wars half way around the globe away from your shores.
What’s so special about the ”freedom” that your so proud of? What’s different between it and other nations freedom. Canada, Australia, NZ, Most of Europe.

Your not the best country in the world probably the worst. Poverty, racism, crashing economy and power-madness is what describes america best.
It’s not hard to see why people hate you.

monnes—-YOU should probably learn alittle more history before “speaking”.
A wise person once said ” it is wiser to keep one’s mouth SHUT and thought the FOOL, than to open it and remove all doubt”.
Just to address one of your absurd “arguement’s is that ALMOST ALL, IF NOT ALL those contries and continent you mentioned EITHER FOUGHT WITH US, SIDE BY SIDE AS BROTHER’S IN ARM’S, OR WE WERE FIGHTING FOR THEIR FREEDOM’S TO BE KEPT FROM BEING TRAMPLED AND DESTROYED FOREVER.
Totally classless piece of garbage………..of course we’ve made, and continue to make mistakes…………but for you to write that on THIS DAY……..!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those we HONOR on this holiday are the ones who made the sacrifices, the SOLDIER’S AND THEIR LOVED ONES.
THEY do NOT make this countries policies, nor do they declare the war’s in which they participate. What they do is selflessly put their lifes on the line for the FREEDOM’S of other’s, NOT JUST THEMSELVES !!!!!!!!
Whatever FREEDOM and LIBERTIES we enjoy today were garnered from previous and greater generations.
We AMERICANS are our own worst critics, we are fully aware of our fault’s and shortcoming’s, and it is PRECISOUSLY those FREEDOM’S that allow us to challenge our government to do better, without fear of being shot or imprisoned for life for those belief’s.
This country began a revolution of sort’s in 50’s, 60’s & 70’s, precisously because we recognized so many of our emerging faulr’s.
If you indeed hate us so much, and have the GALL to say the thing’s about us that you did on such a precious and meaningful day, then you are FREE to stay off our website, and STICK IT WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE !!!!!!!!

@monnes Cause when you are whining that someone is hurting you or the big bad Germans took over my country You call on the US to save you from tyranny. The same tyranny that was used against this nation over 200 years ago. We chose to rise about the monarchs and establish a free nation. Sure you all followed suit, but it has always been the US showing the way. It was the US that prevented Spain from dominating Central America. It was the US soldiers that made the difference in the trenches to beat the stalemate in WWI. That was very unpopular here. It was the US that came in and fought a two ocean war and again turned the tide and defeated Hitler.

  36. By Mike B. on May 29, 2012 | Reply

It was the US with it’s constant actions to prevent the Soviet Union. Korea, Vietnam Grenada. We were always there ready to stop communism. The result as the break up of the Soviet Union and the collapse of the Berlin Wall. The Reunification of German all due to the fact the US was ready. We made our mistakes along the way all countries make mistakes. When Sadam Hussien threatened to bully the Middle East and invaded a neighbor, the US rose to the call. When even after being defeated Saddam continued to bully his own people and prevent others from see if he was developing illegal weapons, he obstructed us. The US took action and eliminated Saddam Hussien. The US stood against Extremist and killed Osama BinLaden and his deputies. The US has always protected freedom and is protecting the freedoms of everyone around the world. I am proud to have been a Cold War warrior and my tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. God Bless the USA

As my family and I visited the graves of our daughter and other family members yesteday, it was very apparent to me as I watched families doing the same activities that the spirit of freedom in our country is alive and thriving and as I continue to build those traditions with my children, they will know the importance of sacrifice and continue these same traditions with their children and respect those that serve our country in any capacity. It was a great day. I am a Scout Master and we woke up early as the sun was rising and planted 80 flags in the yards of our neighborhood. As I drove back through to make sure we had not missed any, it was a great feeling to look down the street and see each flag and each house. Looking at the post from Monnes above just makes me even more proud of those sacrifices. Thank all of you on this blog who have served and for your insights. Keep bleeding purple fellow Vike fans!… Nuf Said….

I just learned a new word……………….”monnes” (n.) a cowardly moron who does not live in the United States of America.

  41. By monnes on May 29, 2012 | Reply

haha I really like how people talk about history here. like if you din’t fight in the ww2 Europe wouldn’t be free (btw think we would cause the nazis couldn’t resist the red army when they got their weapon production under way) but then I can say that America wouldn’t be a country if the Europeans woldn’t have settled it. And I love the thing Mike B wrote ”The same tyranny that was used against this nation over 200 years ago. We chose to rise about the monarchs and establish a free nation” haha you mean the same tyranny that you used to steal the native americans country right?
Please americans of the kind that seem to hang out on this site.. please educate yourselves in your s.c. freedom, your country’s situation, why your actually a part of all the conflicts that you are.

And I really wish Americans would stop using the word freedom as if its something hand delievered to their door every morning by a man in a blue white and red pin striped suit….your actual freedom is and has been chewed away from under your feet more so than any time in history, problem is most of you have no idea and just keep marching to whatever beat is being drummed. I genuinely feel sorry for the Americans who have watched their country fall down the gutter with Bush /rant

And BTW the frase ”god bless america” is well overused people.. god doesn’t exist and if he does he has forgotten about america a long time ago.

@ monnes how can a person from europe even bring up the issue with native americans in this country. Europeans have a extremely long history of eliminating any tribe they can overcome all over the world. It so our manifest destiny happened in recent history. If we followed the european example there woudln’t be a native people left anywhere. The native women would have been enslaved and the lines merged with european to propagate more slaves eventually diluted to more europeans. England itself has a long history of conquering and being conquered. The Roman empire. should I continue. Get real monnes.

The reason you have the US so much is that you can’t beat us so follow along now our economies are blended
