Opening At Home, Late Bye, Challenging December Highlight 2012 Schedule

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 17, 2012 – 5:00 pm

For the first time since 2007 and just the second time since 2005, the Vikings will open their regular season with a home game. The Vikings will begin the season with a contest against the AFC South’s Jacksonville Jaguars, and they’ll also conclude the season with a home game against the Green Bay Packers.

And there is plenty of action in between those games as well, including a Thursday night NFL Network Game in Week 8 against Tampa Bay, consecutive road games against Chicago and Green Bay in Weeks 12-13 and four total road games in the season’s final 6 weeks.

The Vikings bye week falls in Week 11, immediately after their second and final game against the Detroit Lions and right before the team embarks on what appears to be a challenging final 6 games. The Vikings have just one divisional game in the first 9 weeks of the season, and the Week 11 bye is the latest bye since 1999.

Other highlights include a Week 3 matchup against former Vikings WR Randy Moss (who is now with the San Francisco 49ers), visits to play presumed top draft picks Andrew Luck (Colts – Week 2) and Robert Griffin III (Redskins – Week 6), only two potential cold-weather games (Week 12 at Chicago, Week 13 at Green Bay), and of course the season-closing contest against division rival Green Bay.

Sneak Peak At Vikings 2012 Schedule

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 17, 2012 – 6:50 am

The NFL will release its full schedule of games for the 2012 season at 6:00 p.m. CT this evening, an exciting event in the NFL offseason because it’s the first tangible piece of the upcoming season. And we’re all excited for the upcoming season.

While we’re waiting on pins and needles for the dates and times of this year’s games, we already know the opponents and locations of those games. So while we wait for the rest of the equation, let’s review what we already know.

The Vikings home opponents for the 2012 season are: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.

The highlights of the home schedule include WR Randy Moss coming back to Minnesota as a member of the 49ers and several elite RBs visiting Mall of America Field – Chicago’s Matt Forte, San Francisco’s Frank Gore, Jacksonville’s Maurice Jones Drew and Tennessee’s Chris Johnson. There’s also a chance Trent Richardson, this year’s top RB prospect in the draft, visits if Tampa Bay pounces on him with the 5th overall pick.

The Vikings road opponents for the 2012 season are: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams.

The highlights of the road schedule include (presumably) seeing Andrew Luck in Indianapolis and Robert Griffin III in Washington, and a showdown (hopefully) between Arian Foster and Adrian Peterson in Houston. Also, potential cold-weather games are limited to just Chicago and Green Bay.

Stay tuned to vikings.com today because we’ll post the schedule as soon as it’s available, and we’ll also have reaction to the schedule from Radio Voice of the Vikings Paul Allen.
