Heading To NYC For Nike NFL Launch

Posted by Mike Wobschall on April 2, 2012 – 9:55 am

I’m definitely not the type to travel to the glitzy and glamorous New York City to watch a fashion show. But there are exceptions to every rule, and thus I’m off to NYC today.

But the fashion show I’ll attend on Tuesday is not what you’re thinking. It’s much better. On Tuesday afternoon I’ll be attending the Nike NFL Launch, where Nike will unveil the new uniforms it has designed for all 32 NFL teams in 2012. Reebok had previously held the NFL apparel license, but Nike is the new provider and a new era of NFL uniform and apparel design begins on Tuesday.

Allan Brettman of The Oregonian has a story about the launch and about the details of the agreement between the NFL and Nike. This is a big deal for Nike from a business standpoint, obviously, as they are set to enter into business with the most popular sport in America. But it’s also a big deal for the NFL and its players because Nike is constantly on the cutting edge of uniform design and technology. I don’t anticipate drastic changes in the appearance of NFL uniforms, but I think there will be subtle changes to the design and I think there will be tremendous enhancements to the technology of the uniform.

We’ll know much more about the new uniforms a couple of days from now. In the meantime, though, I’ll be sure to take notes and pictures from my trip to NYC and the Nike NFL Launch. I’ll provide as many updates as I can right here on the vikings.com Blog, and I’ll also be providing constant updates on Twitter. You can follow me here: @wobby.

Will they be selling Chris Cook jerseys?

WOW. Bleacherreport ranked the top 64 DE’s and Jared Allen is ranked 4TH!

First Bleacherreport failed to recognize Chris Cook as a top 100 cornerback, now they have the nerve to say Jared Allen was only the 4th ranked DE? Im Jared Allens biggest critic, but even I know that he was the best DE in the game last year.

Already got a Ponder and AP jersey. Just need a Rudolph.

Bleacher Report is dumber than DOG$H1T. Any ranking that doesn’t have Allen no. 1 is total garbage.

I understand the NFL does not have to go along with the new nike NFL uniforms, If any team doesn’t like them they can have then made to the teams exact specifications which of course will be made by nike. I’m hearing there’s going to some drastic changes to some of the teams uniforms. BUT, being a diehard vikings fan for 30 years the vikings should not agree to a far fetched hideous looking uniform!! They’ll look ridiculous!! The vikings really should go back to the exact uniforms they wore from 1996 thru 2005 (helmets, jerseys, pants, home and away!!!) Those were the best uniforms in the entire NFL!! Whoever changed them to the current ones should be fired!!! Go back to the 1996 thru 2005 uniforms (including the horns on the helmets, cause they were slightly changed too!!) and they will sell like hotcakes plus the vikings will once again have the best looking uniforms in the NFL again instead of the worst!!! SKOL VIKINGS!!!

@Ohiovikesfan I would like to see them bring back 1960’s uniforms and make them the official uniforms, maybe modify them a bit but the deep purple on the jerseys and helmets were the best.

WR’s, CB’s, DB’s in the draft with tons of kick return EXP. Why can’t we fill the void with a randall cobb or devin hester type? asher allen can return kicks, Brandon Boykin CB georgia has 2000 kick return yds in college!

Have cheaper jerseys of Harvin, Greenway, and J. Allen. The just cost to much to have all authentic ones of your favorite players.

  28. By Rogerthevikefan on Apr 2, 2012 | Reply

    They not the.

  29. By Rogerthevikefan on Apr 2, 2012 | Reply

Ryan Broyles is a very good receiver who is good at kick and punt returns. Likely a late round pick because of his acl injury.

B.Walters and J.Carlson workout together during the offseason. So Carlson may have put in a good word for him. Walters went undrafted and has really only played in preseason were he ran a kickoff back 103 yards for a TD against the Seahawks.

  31. By Rogerthevikefan on Apr 2, 2012 | Reply

Hopefully this takes presure off of Harvin so he can focus on offence and have less of a chance at injury.

@Titus look at “draft expert” Todd McSay he believes that JaMarcus Russel is the greatest Qb he has ever scouted. Is it true no but he believes it and so it is his reality.
