Reports Link Vikings To Free Agent TE, MN Native John Carlson

Posted by Mike Wobschall on March 14, 2012 – 7:04 am

Free agency opened on Tuesday and Vikings fans quickly grew frustrated because their team wasn’t mentioned among those pursuing some of the best available players. Well, it looks like Wednesday is off to a much better start for those who want the Vikings to dip into the pool of available players.

Several reports have linked the Vikings with former Seattle Seahawks TE John Carlson, a 27-year old athletic and versatile player who is from Litchfield, MN. Carlson spent the first 4 years of his NFL career in Seattle, but missed all of the 2011 season with a shoulder injury.

There is reportedly a big market for Carlson’s services, with the Bears, Buccaneers, Chiefs, Colts, Cowboys, Seahawks and Vikings supposedly all interested. Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com reports that Carlson will be visiting the Vikings today, although vikings.com has not confirmed that this is the case.

In 3 seasons on the field, Carlson has appeared in 47 games with 36 starts, and has 137 receptions for 1,519 yards and 13 TDs. Carlson played college football at the same place current Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph played – Notre Dame.

TE is a need, although we have more pressing needs. Hopefully as FA and the draft unfold we will see Spielman’s strategy and realize we were worried about nothing.

Unfortunately, after years of disappointment, I’m resigned to the fact that we’re going to sign the bruised and battered, the slow learners that didn’t live up to their “potential”, and as many 3rd stringers as we can afford.

This is the only news in the FA a recovering TE. Is Spielman looking to rebuild the team on the cheap. TE was a need as we weren’t going to bring back Shank, but to bring in a dinged up TE is not big news.

I would welcome this signing with open arms as a Vikings fan. That would be a nice 1-2 punch at tight end both in the passing game and both are great athletes, and also in the run game as both are big bodied excellent blockers. I am kind of refreshed that Spielman isnt throwing the money around and over paying for any free agents. I would like to see this franchise be facelifted from the ground up and i believe the way to do that will be through the draft. Take those 10 draft picks and either use them to trade up and get the guys you really covet, or trade pack and stock pile picks. That is the best way to build special teams and find eventual starters. I would welcome a signing of LaRon Landry or Reggie Nelson or both! Would be a great duo at the safety positions. Great tackler, hard hitter, and Reggie is a ball hawk.

We could have just as easily picked up a TE with potential at end of the draft. We have our starting TE in place and really didn’t need a Vet in this position. OL, WR, CB, Safeties, and LB are positions of more serious need. It troubles me that this guy wasn’t even on the NFL tracking list and Mike W is pumping him up so much. I think it is more due to inaction by Spielman and co going after Tier one guys.

  5. By Mike B. on Mar 14, 2012 | Reply

Ok today I see him on the actions list for NFL showing cheifs and colts interest in this TE.

Mike B another disturbing aspect of all this is the lack of effort from the front office to sign/ renegotiate cheaper contracts with our experienced players that have landed in free agency. Sure we will sign a few back in the coming weeks but are they the players we want to suit up and start next year?

we really dont need a te if we bring back shank we got kyle we OL DB and WR there are still good players on the FA that the vikings could get like william gay from the steelers is up for grabs why not we need better connerbacks and free saftey and strong saftey ahser allen hasnt done nothing niether has sanford or tyrell johnson

I suspected that very few of the FAs on the Vikings list would be signed. I think personel and coaching want to place the blame for last year on the players and that’s why they didn’t sign many back. Last year’s problems was an entire organization failure. I still think we would have been better off if the Wilfs would have cleaned the entire house. Front office down.

i don’t understand the Sage signing either. He is a high dollar number 3 QB and the fact he hasn’t started many games doesn’t increase his value as a vet. I think our OC may have more NFL starts that Sage.

Let’s call it what it is, the Vikings organization has always been penny-pinchers and therefore always one step forward and two steps back. I do understand free agency is to supplement for the draft. Supplement means you find quality players with leadership capabilities that can mentor and mold the drafted players for continued continuity, which propels the team to the next level. The Vikings have not done that, over the course of the years those drafted after five-years of service are not offered contracts that will sustain continuity and they are jettisoned and other teams acquire them making them better, whereas the Vikings continue the cycle of mediocrity. Check our roster. Of all those drafted where are they now? There are just a few exceptions left from drafts past to even add credibility to this article. For every highs the Vikings have experienced, 1998, 2009, etc. there have been even longer lows. Time to break the cycle and try something new. Time to compete on a consistent level.

@ NorthwoodsVikesFan That’s a good point we don’t know, but since they only signed one out of the bunch would support that there wasn’t much trying to resign.

Carlson is a good player that can help the team. Do you guys ever stop to think that maybe the top tier guys dont want any part of the Minnesota Vikings right now? Think of it from their perspective, the best player on the team is coming off major surgery, the d sucks, the qb is unproven, the coach is unproven, first time gm, never won a super bowl. To be honest the franchise is pretty sorry, and i didnt even mention the stadium issue. Is there any proof out there that Spielman isnt making phone calls to top tier guys? The Vikings need to show that they can win and are on their way up going forward. They wont get top tier guys until they do…

@ sandiamond. Do you have wiretaps into the Vikings main office? How do you know they didn’t try to renegotiate? I love how people just assume so much without having any clue of the facts. And if they didn’t, we the fans need to realize this is a business not some recreational team. I hate to see certain veterans leave as well, but this is the animal that is today’s sports. You need to leave your 1970’s thinking go. This is an inevitable by-product of today’s workings.

Now, to my real reason for commenting: John Carlson offers a solid resume. He is more athletic than Shiancoe, and if he is able to fully recover from his injury issue of last year, Vikings fans will laud this acquisition. If he sits on the sidelines with injuries then we can gripe about lack of judgment on the GM’s part. That’s the way it works. One need only look at FA performances over the past years to see that like the draft it’s a roll of the dice, sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. It’s the nature of the beast. Besides, maybe this is mgmt’s ploy to throw a red herring out there for Shiancoe to take less money and return to the VIkings. Again, I don’t know because I have not wiretapped the Viikings front office.

Why are us fans asking for the Vikings to grab all these average CB’s and WR’s in free agency…There are reasons these players have been released…When the draft is chuck full of super talent in the WR and CB positions in the draft ??…

The one area that is really bad in this springs draft is a the TE position…And Shaincoe is leaving…Spielman going after Carlson is the smart move…Not a foolish one..

I’m not surprise as this is what the vikings always do during the off season other than the trade of allen. We need CB, Safties, OL, LB, DT…wow and we sign a TE? I know we need a TE but that need is not a big of a need as the other positions. The notion of building a team through the draft is somewhat right but look at what we have done through the draft: Asher allen, Cedric Griffen, T. Johnson, erasmus james, dustin fox…to name a few that did not help us at all. should I add in troy williamson too?? We should try to improve the team in both FA and draft.

I thought that was a democrat issue, not subsidizing a private business, Oh well, what a world we live in, who knows what will be. With the stadium issue in question and with the team being at rock bottom it must be very hard for someone to sign with the Vikings.

I was hoping that having a GM would get the Vikings to move in a positive way when it comes to reforming this team, balancing the need for younger players with the need for the comprehension that a veteran player brings to a team.

How is a TE who is averaging 500yds per season a third-tier player? Many teams don’t have a starting TE that gets that many yards.

Shiancoe averaged 485 while he was a Viking.
    Kleinsasser averaged 130.
Rudolph, who is already being listed as a top-ten TE in the NFL got 250 in his first year.

So Carlson sounds like he’d be a great add for this team. It would create a good receiving TE combo with him backing up Rudolph. We have other, bigger needs…but the process is just beginning. Don’t expect all our needs to be solved this season. There are too many. Plus, as others have said, how many top-end vets want to come to MN? We have the advantage with Carlson because he is from here, so hopefully would like to play for the team he grew up worshiping.

North metro business group: Vikings stadium belongs in Arden Hills
Posted by: Mike Kaszuba under Funding, Minnesota governor, Gov. Mark Dayton, Minnesota legislature, Minnesota state senators, State budgets Updated: March 13, 2012 – 6:02 PM

The North Metro Business Alliance has five words for anyone thinking a new Minnesota Vikings stadium should be built in Minneapolis – Do not forget Arden Hills.

On the eve of the first state Capitol hearing on a proposed $975 million stadium in Minneapolis, business leaders in Ramsey County touted the advantages Tuesday of moving the project back to Arden Hills. “We’re trying to refocus it back on Arden Hills,” said Tim Roche, the president of the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce.

Roche said many officials still believe the proposal to build the Vikings a $1.1 billion stadium in Ramsey County’s Arden Hills was dealt with unfairly by state officials, and that the plan to build it in Minneapolis not only has not been subject to the same scrutiny but contains significant disadvantages.

In a four-page comparison of the two stadium proposals, the business group said that the agreement between the state, city and the Vikings to build in Minneapolis was a “sweetheart deal for the team” and “provides major concessions to the team that were not included in the Ramsey County proposal.”

The White Earth Tribe said Tuesday that a private analysis showed the state would receive between $726 million and $1 billion in new revenue from a Twin Cities casino during its first five years. The tribe has proposed building a casino in the Twin Cities, possibly in Arden Hills alongside a new Vikings stadium, and said the state could use its share of the casino’s revenue for the stadium.

Easy, folks. Here are reasons not to panic just yet about free agency
Posted by: Mark Craig under Quarterbacks, Vikings, NFC, Super Bowl, Jared Allen, Percy Harvin Updated: March 13, 2012 – 6:25 PM

Closing in on the completion of the first 3 1/2 hours of free agency and, well, zzzzzzzzz.

Those of you in Purple haven’t had much to smile about as receivers and cornerbacks — the Vikings’ top two needs — have either flown off the board or have visits planned elsewhere. Meanwhile, amidst the giant splashes taking place, the Vikings have dropped two pebbles into the water: They locked up two of their own players — agreeing to terms with a No. 2 defensive tackle (Letroy Guion) and announcing the signing of a No. 3 quarterback (Sage Rosenfels).

But let’s not go crazy just yet. The Vikings never were a logical candidate to go bananas on Day 1. They have too many holes to fill and a youth movement that will take a few years to execute properly. Their big picture goes beyond three hours on Day 1 of free agency. To build lasting success, all the pieces have to fit together over years, not hours. They have to think about things like next year when the contracts for guys like Jared Allen and Percy Harvin expire.

This also is a marathon. Not a sprint. So we probably should wait to judge the Vikings at the end of the offseason and not three hours into it.

A year ago, one of the consensus “losers” through the first wave of free agency were the Giants. They were absolutely RIPPED for doing nothing but signing backup QB David Carr. And all the Giants did was win the Super Bowl while the Eagles went from free agency “Dream Team” to missing the playoffs entirely.

That’s NOT to say the Vikings will do what the Giants did last year. It’s just meant to point out that today’s hoopla and pats on the back often don’t translate into success in the fall.

Here are some other reasons to take a breath, unclench that jaw and firing off angry emails and tweets about the Vikings being so quiet on Day 1 of free agency:

•Considering the Vikings’ current state of rebuilding, do you really want to give receiver Pierre Garcon $42.5 million over five years with $21.5 million guaranteed? That’s a crazy deal and could come with future cap issues.
•Remember who signed Garcon and other receivers Eddie Royal and Josh Morgan. It’s the Washington Redskins. If the league handed out trophies in April, the Redskins wouldn’t know where to put all the hardware.

    • The Vikings never were in the running for Vincent Jackson, who appears ready to sign with Tampa Bay. And, at 29, Jackson never would have been a good fit for when the Vikings are ready to compete for Super Bowls.

•The Vikings still have the No. 3 overall draft pick. And considering the top two picks are going to be quarterbacks, the Vikings will have their choice of the league’s best rookie non-quarterback.

•Free agency goes on forever for awhile. There will be some helpful players left after this initial wave ends.
    Other highlights:

•Ryan Slaton, the agent for Vikings free agent Lorenzo Booker, said Booker and the team have left open the possibility of re-signing. That doesn’t mean Booker won’t test the market, but he doesn’t have anything lined up yet.

•The smartest free agent of the day is Marques Colston, the Saints receiver who re-signed with New Orleans. He’s sharp enough to know you don’t leave Drew Brees and that offense.

•Minnesota native John Carlson, 27, is one of the top tight ends, if not the top one, on the market. A Seahawk his entire career, it looks like Carlson might end up with Kansas City. He’s going to visit the Chiefs. Kansas City tight end Tony Moeaki is coming off a torn ACL.

•Harold Lewis, the agent for Cowboys free agent receiver Laurent Robinson, confirmed a trip to Jacksonville for tonight. Robinson is among the remaining second-tier receivers who might be a good fit for the Vikings

$18.5M/year? Sounds like a pretty nice payday! The Lions are going to have trouble keeping under the cap pretty soon with deals like that one.

Maybe they’re just exstatic that they finally found a WR after so many years of trying. Since 2003, the Lions have used an early first round pick on a WR 4-times! The lowest of those picks was Mike Williams at pick #10 in 2005.

Bears WR Marshall accused of punching woman in NYC

NEW YORK—New York City police say a woman has accused NFL star receiver Brandon Marshall of punching her in the face at a nightclub.
The woman alleges the incident occurred at 3:50 a.m. Sunday outside the Marquee in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

Police are investigating a complaint she filed Monday evening.

    Marshall hasn’t been charged.

Marshall was traded Tuesday from the Miami Dolphins to the Chicago Bears.

Both teams said Wednesday they were aware of the alleged incident before the trade.

Marshall’s attorney didn’t immediately return a call for comment.

Last year, Marshall’s wife was arrested after he was stabbed in the abdomen during a domestic dispute. Charges were later dropped.

Marshall was involved in a 2007 fight in Denver that led to the drive-by slaying of the Broncos’ Darrent Williams.

Carlson to visit, would make intriguing TE combo
Posted by: Mark Craig under Vikings, Bears, NFC, Vikings fans, Anthony Herrera, Visanthe Shiancoe Updated: March 14, 2012 – 9:43 AM

It’s not the splash that Vikings fans were hoping for, but Day 2 of free agency will bring possibly the best young tight end available to Winter Park for a visit. The news was first reported by TheSidelineView.com.

John Carlson, a Litchfield, Mn. native who has played his four NFL seasons in Seattle, would make an intriguing tight end combination if he chooses to return to his home state. A second-round pick of the Seahawks in 2008, Carlson, 27, would team with fellow Notre Dame alum Kyle Rudolph, a second-round pick of the Vikings in 2011.

As Vikings fans know, the Vikings love multiple tight-end sets. Carlson would replace Visanthe Shiancoe, who turns 32 in June. Shiancoe is a free agent and won’t return because he’s on the wrong side of the over-30 purge taking place at Winter Park.

Carlson, like Rudolph, is considered a pass-catching tight end. Carlson had 55 catches and five touchdowns as a rookie in 2008. He had 55 catches and seven TDs a year later. He then had 31 catches and one touchdown in 2010 before a shoulder injury caused him to miss the 2011 season.

In other free agent news, former Vikings right guard Anthony Herrera will visit the Bears. This is a no-brainer visit. Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice basically discovered Herrera in 2004. Tice was the Vikings’ head coach when Herrera was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee.

Herrera’s NFL success has been fueled ever since by the snub he felt on that draft day eight years ago. Although Herrera doesn’t mesh with the youth movement at Winter Park, he could definitely help a Bears line that has struggled, to say the least

Eagles Give Ben Leber A LookMar 13th at 12:46 pm by danzinski

This isn’t the kind of free agency update Viking fans were hoping for. Nope, Erin Henderson’s not about to get a new deal. Brandon Carr is not on the radar screen. There’s nothing to report except that Rick Spielman wants to get younger and build with the draft. That’s what he just got done saying on the radio. He probably mutters that to himself all night in his sleep. His wife must want to punch him.

So with no news to report on current or potentially future Vikings, we turn to former Vikings looking for work elsewhere. Here’s something on a guy who left town during the mini-purge of 2011. Ben Leber. He got a work out from the Eagles. He played for the Rams last year until they cut him. At this point the 33-year-old Leber is looked upon as a back-up option. He was a solid player for the Vikings when they had a decent defense. Now they have a weak defense with a really overpaid guy at strong-side linebacker. But at least they’re GETTING YOUNGER

Mike B….The Vikings were in tough shape last spring…There was no off season…New head coach…New offensive coordinator…Veterans didn’t know the new offense and couldn’t get together because of the lock out…Ponder had a grab a play book on the fly after the draft…It was a mess !!!

Then Frazier brings in McNabb with all that going on to save the day…And Frazier also puts his own personal stamp of approval keeping BB around…It took the Vikings half the season to admit the McNabb and Berrian idea was not a good investment…Then McKinney came into camp way out of shape…Cook goes from waving guns in a neighbors face last spring…To getting into some kind of physical trouble with his gal in strip clubs…

So the Vikings end up 3-13….I think if Frazier would have just went with his gut feeling early and just started the season with Webb and Ponder at QB…The Vikings would have been a much better team that 3-13…But who knows ???

Obviously, if they extend Allen and restructure KWill (by basically guaranteeing some of his money) they can create some more space. Why they have not done that yet or may not do that at all is another topic. For right now they have about 23 mil to use to add some free agents. They currently have about 18 free agents plus they just released 3 players. They expect to have 10 draft picks once they announce the compensatory picks. That means they need to sign about 11 players somehow to just fill the roster…

The Vikings aren’t going to be competitive this year. There’s just too much rebuilding to do. We have 2 starters that need to be replaced on offense, after cutting both Guards. Speculation seems to be that the other 3 will be kept as starters in the process by reworking the line. Two tight ends who have been contributors in every game for years are also leaving the team.

Defensively, we’re short 5/6-starters, depending on how you place Tyrell Johnson who began last season as the starter. That includes 2-LBs, 2-CBs, and 2-Safeties. (Cook will be included in my count until he is approved to play in the NFL again).

That makes for 11-players who were expected to be frequent contributors to every game who need to be replaced. There’s no way we can accomplish that in one off-season.

So hopefully in free agency and the draft, we will be picking up players who are capable of making large improvements. Guys who wouldn’t be starters on most teams the second they put on a uniform, but have the ability to learn and develop into solid starters in a year or two.

  131. By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Mar 14, 2012 | Reply

    Overlooked –

Remember, we were a TD away from winning 9 more games last year, despite a cruddy O-line, cruddy secondary, washed up QB replaced by a rookie QB, and a vertically-challenged receiver corps. Just a couple of minor upgrades on the O-line, secondary, and WR corps would have put us in the playoffs last year.

The flip side of that comment is our rivals have made significant improvements on their rosters, and minor upgrades on our part won’t cut it this year.

Although FA is not the way to build a team to win in the long term, it does seem like the Vikings have a lot of open gaps, that even the draft can’t fill. And even with 10 picks, rarely do you see 5th, 6th, and 7+ round picks be shining stars.

Would it really be so bad to sign some of the younger crowd from FA to fill our gaps, and let the FA take care other the other spots? As of now, young FA prospects could be:

    S Tim Zbikowski (Ravens)
    LB Dan Conner (Panthers)
    WR Mario Manningham (Giants)

Just those three positions from FA could be mid-long term solutions, so we can focus on our OL and CB in the draft (primarily).
The potential signing of TE John Carlson would not be a bad thing, in fact it might be decent (or at least fill a gap until next years draft)

    Thoughts?

Mistral Raymond and Brandon Burton have been in the background their entire rookie years. They now both have a huge opportunity to earn positions on the field this year. There was talk after the draft that they both have potential to be good players in the NFL.

Can either of them live up to the potential? Well, with 3-CBs and 2-Safeties hitting free agency, we’ll soon get a chance to see how these two young DBs measure up.

Why do people keep on bashing Carlson as a worthless TE? When he got injured, Seattle brought in Zach Miller. A player who had been averaging out a bit better than Carlson in his career, but turned in a poor performance in his only season with the Seahawks.

Regardless, Seattle decided they didn’t want two starting TEs, and let Carlson walk since they still have Miller under contract.

The coaches obviously see an advantage to having two TE sets for Ponder to throw to, so signing a player who has been averaging 500-yds per game sounds like a logical choice.

If they can get Ponder some protection, we just might get a chance to see how good of a choice it was.

After a horrible season, and only a tight end signed in Free Agency so far, I see no change. Now there is reports on them passing on the best available player and the best tackle in the draft. Seriously what are they thinking? Can’t imagine why Spielman was fired for his wonderful job in miami! A deal has been reached to finance and build a new stadium in downtown Minneapolis, just east of the Metrodome, the Vikings’ current facility. While a deal has been reached between the team, the Governor of Minnesota and the Mayor of Minneapolis, that deal still needs to be approved by the Minnesota Legislature and the Minneapolis City Council. The bill must make it first through the Legislature’s political committee system, then be voted on by the full body. if it makes it through all that, it still needs city approval. I just don’t think it will make it though and we will see the team move to Los Angeles.

With Percy and Blackman or Flyod would be a nice squad of young players. We still need to fix the O-line. If we don’t make some more moves in FA, I’ll be scratching my head as to why we let Hutch and Herra go this year. It’s a start, lets see who else they will target.

We threw John Sullivan (6th-rounder) into a starting role in his second year, and we won the division in his first two-years. Hopefully the team can fill offensive line gaps once more with second-year players, picked up late in the draft.

2012 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings Clear to Take Matt Kalil

At the third pick, there’s no margin for error. There’s a reason the Vikings are drafting No. 3. They stunk in 2011. If they don’t draft well, they’ll be on pace to suck again in 2012 (might underwhelm anyways).

Kalil is the best value. Franchise left tackles protect the blindsides of high-paid quarterbacks. They make the quarterback’s life easier. In making the quarterback’s life easier they make the lives of the receivers easier and open up holes for the running backs (making their lives easier).

Yes, a cornerback can be excellent in coverage providing more opportunities for the linebackers and defensive linemen to make plays, but they do not make others around them better the way an offensive lineman can. And given that the Vikings released 40 percent of their 2011 starting line, they need to make a grand gesture to solidify the line for 2012.

Selecting Matt Kalil would do just that.

@DRS- I am with you. They have to draft Kalil number 3. It shouldn’t even be questioned, in fact, they should be focusing their energy on the 35th pick right now. Too much negativity surrounding the Carlson signing. It was a good move, people just want to see the Vikes sign dbs, ol, and wr’s. The Vikes are smart not to over pay and I believe Carlson may be one of the more under the radar moves of the offseason.

I want new toys when the Vikings choose players in their most important areas of need !!…That means picking WR’s and secondary players in the draft…The Vikings second teir of players of need are TE and DT…Spielman just grabbed the best free agent TE…And signed Guion to an extension so far…Signing another younger DT would go a long ways to taking care of the secondary needs for the Vikings in free agency…So when the draft starts…The Vikings can concentrate on their biggest area of needs…

    LT,CB,S, and WR…

And fill those positions with brand new shiney toys…With tons of upside !!!

They just said the Vikes signed Carlson to a 5 year 25 million dollar deal. We run a lot of 2-3 TE sets so having Carlson paired with Rudolph I think they will make a great combo and become two of Ponders favorite targets and a safety net for him. Go Vikings!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vikings’ Cook denies ever choking his girlfriend

Article by: ABBY SIMONS , Star Tribune Updated: March 13, 2012 – 9:33 PM

When they got home, he said, he confronted her, and she threw a lamp in the bedroom and punched him. She struck him in the back of the head with a high-heel shoe, he testified. He turned instinctively and smacked her on the side of the head, causing her to trip over a suitcase and fall face first on a nightstand, resulting in a swollen face and ruptured eardrum. She got up and continued to punch him. When he held her down by her wrists on the bed, he said, she broke free and pulled out three of his dreadlocks. The argument continued downstairs until police arrived, called by a neighbor who heard the fight.

A lot of you are trashing John Carlson. As a hardcore Seahawks fan, I’m sad to see him go.

He had one fluke shoulder injury in camp that required surgery and cost him a season, but was otherwise healthy. His lack of productivity after his rookie year was based more on continuous coaching changes (Holmgren, Mora, Carroll) and new offensive schemes. He was asked to block more than catch as a result of a poor offensive line and a frequently injured starting QB. The guy is squared away and has great hands. With some offensive consistency and a good QB he will earn his money.

Go back and watch the Hawks win over the Saints in the 2011 playoffs for what Carlson can bring to the game.

@Mark B & KalilOT – It’s good to see some people excited about adding John Carlson to the offense. This is a good pickup and not a high cap number. We basically subtracted Ced Griffin and added Carlson. Who do you think benefits the franchise more? Carlson is still young and can really blossom in this offense and take some pressure off of Ponder. I wouldnt mind the Vikes taking a look at Chaz Shillens and a few of the safeties out there. LaRon Landry, Jimmy Leonhard, Reggie Nelson.

Chris Cook case goes to the jury

Article by: ABBY SIMONS , Star Tribune Updated: March 14, 2012 – 2:55 PM

After hearing closing arguments in the morning, a jury began deliberating the Chris Cook felony assault case shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Cook, 25, a cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, testified Tuesday on the fifth and final day of testimony in his felony domestic assault and third-degree assault trial. He’s accused of choking and hitting his girlfriend of 10 months, Chantel Baker, 21, a college student from Virginia.

Cook and Baker testified that an argument after a night out on the town led to a fight in Cook’s Eden Prairie town home on Oct. 22.

Baker initially told authorities that Cook tried to choke her during the fight, but later recanted. On the stand, Cook denied that he tried to choke her.

The case is being heard in Hennepin County District Court in downtown Minneapolis.

Vikings need to trade Jared Allen

Before I was more against than for it but now it seems this would be in the best interest for the Vikings.

Jarred Allen is just coming off a record year and the Vikings can get a max/quality trade from him. A 1st and 3rd (maybe 2nd) round selections.

If the Vikings are going this far to get younger by releasing any close to their 30’s then just stick with the trend.

The Vikings didn’t get aggressive for big free agents because it would be a waste of money because not only would they have to EXTRA spend but the Vikings are NOT…… I repeat…. NOT one or two big players away from being a contender.

By the time the young movement rebuilding Vikings become relevant contenders, Jared Allen will be at the end or done with his career.

So why not maximize on a player coming off a record season and SELL HIGH to get the most out of a player. This will allow the Vikings to not only grab a young talented player with its 1st rounder and any additional picks but also explore with whatever young talent they got on the team at the DE position and hopefully get that locked with a solid young player by the time the team is a contender.

This is putting feelings beside because I love Jared Allen and will go down as one of my favorite Viking ever. However, I love the team more than any single player and moving Jared Allen before the draft would be the best thing for the future of the franchise.

If they do, i’ll be scratching my head….

I like Carlson, but I don’t think he is worth the 5mil a year. I also am not “excited” about him coming here, although Im not mad at the Vikes for making it happen. However, seeing Grubbs signed, or Carr signed here, or even Landry, that would make me pretty excited. The Vikings are rebuilding, but if your in that mode, go out and rebuild. Getting a guy or 2 with 4-5 years under their belt is a good start. I think its even more disheartening when we scour reports for who some of these players are working out with, and nobody that we feel would be a huge impact is even reported to be being looked at by this org.

Couldn’t agree more…Trading Allen would be the best for both involved…I too wish only the best for Allen….And would love to see him get a super bowl ring before retiring….And his value for the Vikings right now in a trade could never be higher also with a team rebuilding…The trade would make sad…But would be in both parties best interests involved…I think also…

I have to agree with others this postion or even this particular player could have been picked up either later or through the draft. What a waste of the first day. But we don’t know Spielman’s strategy on FA is. Not sure I want to know it. I just hope we don’t sign lot of mid level talent players and then have the coach and GM come out and say that “we have improved the team to a point where we can compete” translation we will be no better that 8-8. Which in turn means we won’t see a decent team for years to come. Just think of it this way football is the only sport where they can blackout a game. And if they put really bad talent on the field, at least we probably won’t have to see any of games.

Vikings fans seriously also need to realize the situation the Vikings find themselves in terms of Free Agency.

    Let me explain.

Let say the Vikings decide “Hey we got 23 million in cap…. lets go after a star!”

Well now there are probably 4-6 teams also making bids on the same players. This only drives up the cost even more than if you were to attempting to resign someone already on the team. If you get someone in Free Agency you will pay more…… there is almost no way around it. (exception: after free agency has dragged out for an extended long period of time a player will sign for cheap just to have a job….. that is the only way. Often they are not great either)

It doesnt stop there because since the Vikings are NOT contenders….. coming of a 3-13 season…… getting significantly younger….. the Vikings would have to pay even EXTRA to get a player here in MN. Why? Because if they came here is wouldnt be for the opportunity to win…. it’d be for the money. So if any team was even close to the Vikings offer the player would go there so the Vikings would have to overly spend to lure a player to the team.

    Example:
    — WR V. Jackson – Bucs signed him to a 5 year 55.6 million dollar deal. Vikings would have to go at least 5 years 60+ million with even more guaranteed/bonus money.

That would take up on average 12-13 million cap hit every year.

That is just one guy! You would then have roughly 10 million to sign draft picks and the rest of free agents to fill in the holes.

    — CB Eric Wright – Take a good (not great) CB in Wright. He got signed for 5 years 37.5 million. Vikings would have to pay at least 41-42 million to get him to MN. No way would I ever want the Vikings to pay that much money for a player. If they were on the fence and playing for a title…. yeah maybe but not in the state the Vikings find themselves in now.

As you can see since the Vikings are NOT one or two players from being a playoff contender so there is no need at all to break the bank and not have any money to build other parts of the team.

Many of you are being absolutely absurd in your thought processes and comments thinking the Vikings would fly out of the gate signing 2 big name players and then attempting to sign a couple other 2nd tier players.

So please see things more clearly before you get all worked up. One day into free agency doesn’t ruin the team. SKOL!

Another way to look at things is to take your bruises this next season.

Go through your roster, get all sorts of players some playing time, and find out EXACTLY what you have. Who is good and who is not.

Going into the 2013 season you will know EXACTLY what positions that young talent can hold down and other positions that need to be addressed. Not saying throw away the next season but at least see what you got.

Not only will get probably another high 2013 draft position but will have tons of cap space because the Vikings didn’t go crazy this year in Free Agency.

Im a season ticket holder and would love nothing more than to see a winning product every time I step into the stadium but I also understand the nature of the beast. Im will to take the pain/hit to provide a brighter future for the purple and gold.

I’ve said all along that Viking fans that have been with the team for 40+ years must be the most loyal fans in the NFL by far….. easily. Just because of how deep you have to go to stay with the team. Its one thing if your team is awful like the Lions because you have no expectations or hopes to be crushed….. instead the Vikings have been so close more than any other team and have come short from getting the big one. So I will say thanks for sticking with the team.

For everyone who thinks we paid too much for Carlson, take a look at these stats of the highest paid TEs in the NFL (salary based on 2009 cap hit, stats added up from beginning of career through 2011-12 season).

    Dallas Clark – $6.8M, 42ypg, 543ypy, 5.1TDpy
    Daniel Graham – $6.7M, 18ypg, 249ypy, 2.5TDpy
    Todd Heap – $6.4M, 40ypg, 525ypy, 3.8TDpy
    Kellen Winslow* – $5.2M, 53ypg, 806ypy, 3.8TDpy
    Vernon Davis – $4.9M, 43ypg, 634ypy, 5.8TDpy
    Jason Witten – $4.7M, 55ypg, 879ypy, 4.6TDpy
    Heath Miller – $4.7M, 36ypg, 552ypy, 4.4TDpy
    Randy McMichael – $4.6M, 30ypg, 449ypy, 2.4TDpy
    Tony Gonzalez – $4.5M, 56ypg, 889ypy, 6.3 TDpy
    Bo Scaife – $4.5M, 27ypg, 397ypy, 2TDpy
    Averaging out to: $5.3M, 40ypg, 592ypy, 4TDpy

And how does John Carlson Measure up? Check it out:
32ypg, 506ypy, 4.33TDpy. Right there in line with the average. A good estimate for his first year cap hit, (according a comparison of 4-year contracts signed by other players) would be $4.8M.

*Kellen Winslow played in 2 games in his first two-years, so those years were not counted, for the same reason that Carlson’s 2011 year was not counted.

Here’s a new one just for you Nova – with the story as it was told UNDER OATH in a court of law after swearing it to be the truth BEFORE THEIR GòD. If you’re going to decide which story is a lie, you should take circûmstances such as that into consideration.

    We had a fight,
    We started to yell,
    He called me a slüt
    who should go to hèll.

    I raised my fist
    and punched his face,
    He looked pîssed,
    But didn’t match the pace.

    I threw a lamp
    Which shattered on the wall,
    He called me a trämp,
    That sure took some gall.

    He turned to leave
    And I saw my chance,
I stabbed him with my shoe,
    For accepting that lap dance.

    He finally reacted,
As he hit me in the head,
    And while I fought back,
He threw me to the bed.

    He held me down,
as I pulled out his hair,
    then I started to cry,
just to make him the bad guy.

I told the cops my lie,
    Knowing that they’d buy,
    The story of a slüt
    Over any he might try.

    Now under oath,
    I tell the truth,
    But they reject it,
    Calling it uncouth.

    At least now I know,
No matter how wrong I am,
    Society will always throw
    The male in the can.

I have a friend who proposed to his fiancee in a department store parking lot. I thought that was pretty weak too, but I’m not going to end our freindship because of that. How shallow would that be?

Okay people who want S Laron Landry! We do not want him!

Yeah he would be an upgrade but how much? Not enough to make the money we would throw at him worth it.

Not only is he injury prone but he is NOT a deep backfield player. He never was, is, and never will be! Yes, he has got ‘little’ better and will get ‘little’ better as time goes on but the word “better” can mean just one tipped pass improvement.

He plays his best near the line of scrimmage and is a good tackler with good speed. With the exception of top end speed the Vikings can find that easily in the end of the draft or a very cheap free agency pick up! The further away from the line of scrimmage he get the worse he becomes. He is not a rangy ball hawking saftey.

THE VIKINGS TO NOT NEED A LINE OF SCRIMMAGE HOVERING TACKLING SAFTEY!!!!

The Vikings need a safety with deep backfield range that can make plays on the ball in the air.

So quit making uneducated chants “Come on Vikings….. Get Laron Landry!…. What are you thinking?”, “THE VIKINGS NEED LARON LANDRY!!!”, “LARON LANDRY WOULD HELP OUT THE TEAM SOOOO MUCH!!”

    JUST STOP!

Yes, he would be an upgrade at the position but in the end would be hurting the team overall because he would be eating up cap space and prevent from the team testing out other younger safetys that could do the same job if not better for cheaper.

    For the last time……. WE…. DO… NOT… NEED… TO… GO… AFTER… LARON LANDRY!!

He makes awful personnel moves and has not made the smartest draft picks in the past outside of the no-brainers (Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, Chad Greenway). He needs to get fired STAT!

The Vikings AREN”T expected to retain Johnson, a second-round draft pick in 2008 who has played in 49 games over four NFL seasons, starting 27. But there should be a market for the 26-year-old’s services once he’s healthy.

Viking’s will continue to let the big money players find a homw elsewhere. The Carlson signing is good, only if they use him…It would be nice to grab an up and coming player that shows promise but doesn’t fit the system they are in, it happens often.

It occurred to me that Spielman saw that Carlson would be freed up and would be quite happy to come to Minnesota. We have, in essence, replaced Shank, who I really liked, with Carlson. Carlson is younger, for sure, and hopefully a better blocker. All in all, an upgrade at TE, if you ask me. You didn’t ask me, I know, but that never stopped me before. Now, let’s upgrade at least one more position tomorrow, then think about some other position on Friday. If we can upgrade 3 positions in FA, wouldn’t that be nice!?

I don’t think we’ll be looking for a WR quite as hard as most people want us to. The signing of Carlson gives me a strong impression that the team wants to mimic the Patriots offense. I looked over their 2011 roster, and found that they only had one productive, big name WR. That was Welker with 1569 yards. The next most yards by a receiver was Ochocinco with 276 yards. He’s a big name, and probably helped a bit by keeping a DB or two occupied, but he did little else.

Their TEs, Hernandez and Gronkowski combined for 2237 yards. This all happened with little for a running game, as the top-2 rushers got fewer all-purpose yards than AP got just in rushing yards in his 12-games last year.

I know, I know; Ponder is no Tom Brady…yet. But we have our 2-TEs now to work with, and a Wes Welker-style receiver in Percy Harvin. Harvin is 2-inches taller, 7-years younger, and significantly faster than Welker (4.41 40-time compared to a 4.65 for Welker). After looking at those numbers, I’m shocked…I think Welker must have sped up somehow since his combine.

We don’t have a big-name Ochocinco player, but who says we need one? Couldn’t we get just as much/more production out of Arceneaux and Jenkins? 276 yards isn’t that tough. Jenkins got 466 for us last year by himself.

So overall, I think if we can get our O-Line on task, our offense has the players to rival the Patriots offense after they get a year or two to gel.

  586. By KoN on Mar 14, 2012 | Reply

That’s a pretty good break down parody. I like it, hopefully our D will be better than the Patriots though. I mean, I know ours was bad last year, but the Pats might as well have not fielded one. ANd they still got to the Superbowl, I wish we were in the AFC.

  587. By Parody on Mar 14, 2012 | Reply

Careful with that wishing KoN. If the team moves to LA, they’ll probably consider rearranging the divisions, which could easily land us in the AFC West and hook the Chiefs up in the NFC North…

Speilman just wants to wait until both of Adrian’s knees give out, Ponder to get post traumatic stress disorder, and for Percy to have enough concussions that he is going to need to be put in a Psych ward before he decides the team is moving in the right direction to compete. What a joke!! The man couldn’t even draft a competitive WNBA team. The Lynx are the best team we got now WOOOHOOOOO!!! I mean for crying out loud Carlson was already in KC and cancelled his visit when you called because you were offering him twice as much as anybody else. What happened to the conservative non overspending for player approach you have been preaching this whole offseason? The dude didn’t even play last year!! We already got enough injury prone players as it is. People wonder why being a Minnesota Vikings fan is so hard and this is the reason why. We don’t play to win the games, we play to just be competitive….In 4 or 5 years that is.

  590. By Parody on Mar 14, 2012 | Reply

Ty – Maybe he cancelled his trip to Kansas because he wanted to play for his hometown team. Wouldn’t the Vikings be your first choice of teams if you were in the NFL?

Parody – I like your analysis. All I would add on the offence is an upgrade on the blocking back. I am not sure we have that covered. We need to do a better job of picking up blitzing CB’s and OLB’s.

The thin line between recognizing fault and supporting under-developed talent has become blurred. It has resulted in investing in players well beyond their potential, and missing opportunities. If MIN is to succeed, they must do a better job of moving past what does not bring success and recognizing what will.
There is merit with the idea that some players/positions develop slowly. There is also merit in recognizing what does not work.

-Ponder needs to produce or be replaced

-The O-line needs to offer that window

-The HC needs to show passion or be replaced

-The GM needs to show competency or be replaced

Without these basic components, MIN will not move forward.

It seems like the free agency period gets shorter and shorter each year. Apparently it only lasted a couple days this year. My point being that just because the Vikes haven’t really added anyone yet doesn’t mean that don’t plan on signing anyone at all.

  596. By Matthias on Mar 15, 2012 | Reply

The 40 yards dash is totaly over-rated. During a game you have to sprint more than just 2 times and therefor the factor “stamina” is much more important.

Bernard Berrian seemed to play good for the bears and everybody knows how he played for us…. Don’t be mad that we won’t get somebody “good”. You never know how somebody pans out in a different system or under a different coach.

I think most of the free agents weren’t singed, because they weren’t that good like some of you might think. Have faith in Spielman at least this year.

I had not read of any such plea bargain being offered from the state to Cook before yesterday ??…After hearing the offer…Surprised Cook turned the offer down….

  603. By Mike B. on Mar 15, 2012 | Reply

@OTK I think the assumption there is that the Vikings will never get the ball as our Defense is so bad. This is a reasonable concern as the team has yet to address the issue in FA. 4 starters were cut or released to FA from the Defensive backfield alone. LB, CB, and Safety are issues that need to be addressed. There has been no movement by the team in those areas. The most disconcerning fact is they kept Asher and Remi, when it is obvious they are not cutting it. Add in the fact the team addresses TE position in FA which wasn’t a dire need. Someone needs to poor the gatoraide bucket on Rick and wake him up.

I don’t think it was appropriate was to pay him while it was being worked out. His behavior off the field is questionable at best. Off field behavior is accountable to his job as a Viking and member of the NFL. Once the decision is made he should be cut or traded by the Vikings and be punished by the league. His conduct is not acceptable in professional sports where children look up to sports figures.

    Round 2: Chase Mannifield CB 6’0 185
    Round 3: Harrison Smith S 6’2 214

The Vikings are sitting pretty in the drafting order…And will have (most likely after the compensatory picks are handed out) 6 picks alone in the first 4 rounds of the draft…A draft CHUCK FULL of talented WR’s and CB’s !!!

Why do fans want Spielman going hog wild on players from other teams have released for some reason or another…But mostly because lack of talent or injury concerns ??…

Example Spielman should not listen to media and fans…

Fans and media wanted Frazier to grab a guy like McNabb last year….A veteran leader…A polished veteran to lead and mentor young Ponder…Frazier folded under the pressure…And fans and media got what they wanted…McNabb…How did that work out ??…

Spielman wanted NO PART of McNabb…nuff said…about that one…

OTK – How many fans really wanted us to go after McNabb? I thought the general concensus was against it. It wouldn’t have bothered me if we got McNabb to mentor Webb, but the fact that we spent a 1st round pick on a QB told me that we didn’t need to waste extra effort on a Veteran. I felt it just delayed the development of a player who was deemed “most prepared to start in the NFL” among the QBs in his draft year.

Overall, I still feel that the Ponder signing was the wrong choice. We would have been in a much better position if we signed Fairley, Amukamara or an offensive lineman in the first. We could have tried to build Webb into our starter, and still would have been in a good position to go after RG3 this year. But now that we have Ponder, hopefully we’ll be doing what it takes to turn him into a star.

I believe the Vikings are not going to believe their eyes this season…When they see what kind of QB Ponder will be when he gets protected…If the Vikings grab Kalil in this springs draft…And get him a few more weapons…This young man is going to light up the football field this season…If AP and Gerhart stay healthy…Carlson is a big pick up for the Vikings…He is one of the targets that was needed on offense this coming season with Shancoe leaving…

I am not expecting a super bowl trophy this coming season..Don’t get me wrong…But things could look much better after the draft…If fans are a little patient and let Spielman do his thing…

Landry I like…Just the guy is always off the field with injuries..

More than free agencey…I like the lists of players that are dropped after the draft…Players that are solid and good enough to keep on the teams roster…But are dropped because of youth and talent coming in…

Vikings won’t need much help after the draft to fill the roster…Spielman is doing it right to nab veteran players released after the draft…Or undrafted players from the college ranks…

I suppose fans will be mad if (or when) Spielman gets that contract done also…Even though most fans would like to see it happen…It just wouldn’t look like its enough or expected…idk..

No…That was the head coach…Childress at the time…

Did Spielman get angry at McKinney and release him without even trying to get a draft pick for him ??…(good move..just handled incorrectly at the time)…

No again…That was head coach …Frazier at the time…

Did Spielman want anything to do with McNabb ???…

No …another head coaching decision…Frazier at that time…

Has Spielman EVER had a chance to run a draft for the Vikings ??…

No…The head coach has always had final say on players being selected…Spielmans job has always been having a list prepared of best players available at each position for the head coach too “maybe” look at to pick a player from…

Most bad decisions that have happened to the Vikings in recent history stem from the head coaching department…Not Spielman…

So why do fans blame him for decisions…That Spielman has never made…

And Spielman also explained why the team didn’t jump in checkbook first on some of the high-priced individuals.

“I don’t think we’re a player or two away to go out and spend the money that’s being spent on all those players that have gotten contracts early,” he said. “I think what we’re trying to do is find some players who we think are going to help us win ballgames, who are going to be able to contribute and then build this through the draft. Keep adding draft picks and keep our roster competitive year in and year out that way.”

Shortly before 3 p.m. the jury sent a note to the judge that read, “Is there a CD player to play CDs?” As part of their case, prosecutors entered into evidence recordings of Cook’s jailhouse phone calls and Baker’s original interview with an Eden Prairie police officer.

Hennepin County District Judge Robert Small brought jurors into the courtroom and told them a Minnesota Supreme Court case prohibited him from giving them a CD player; the precedent held that if a jury were given the equipment, the panelists might give less weight to other evidence.

Jurors talked among themselves, and then their foreman told Small they wanted to listen again to Baker’s initial interview with police. It was replayed, and they returned to their deliberations.

Ex-Viking Tarvaris Jackson might face new QB competition with Seahawks

RENTON, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks will host free-agent quarterbacks Chad Henne and Matt Flynn on visits this week.

The team confirmed that Henne would visit on Wednesday, March 14, with Flynn schedule to arrive and meet with team officials the following day.

The Seahawks are in the market for a QB with only two on their roster, including last year’s starter, former Minnesota Viking Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson played well at times during his first year in Seattle, but has just one year remaining on his deal.

Flynn impressed with his performance in Green Bay’s season finale when he threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns against Detroit. Henne started four games last season for Miami before having season-ending shoulder surgery.

Vikings stadium: Dayton presses GOP for quick action as bill stalls in committee

    March 15, 2012 4:59 AM GMT Updated: 03/14/2012 11:59:39 PM CDT

Mondale described to the committee the jobs, activities and amenities it will provide. He said the state would get $450 million more gross dollars over time than it puts in if things like taxes on player salaries are taken into account.

Sen. Katie Sieben, DFL-Newport, expressed concerns about cost overruns during construction. But Mondale said protective provisions are included in the bill, stressing the numbers built into the stadium bill are conservative and solid.

Several spoke out against the stadium bill, including Tom Goldstein of St. Paul. The Vikings actually aren’t paying nearly as much as the team says it is, he said. Naming rights, parking revenue and NFL funds will help the team make back its contribution.

Tom Prichard, president of the Minnesota Family Council, said he opposes using gambling revenue to support construction because of the threat of gambling addiction and its costs to the public.

“You are voting to establish 2,500 mini-casinos around the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sen. Pam Wolf, DFL-Spring Lake Park, asked what would happen if gambling didn’t raise the needed money.

First saying the anticipated revenue “numbers are real,” Rosen said other backup user fee options, such as fees for memorabilia, could be employed.

But now that he is rightfully back on this team, a question looms. Will Roger suspend him?Personally I dont think Cook should be suspended. You cant really say he put the league into a negatively light because Nobody even knows who Cook is. This doesnt compare to Big Bens situation because everyday of every week people were talking about if he raped that women. He made the league look bad so they felt they need to punish him.

Plus, Cook was practically suspended from the team last year for 10 games.

    Anyways, Welcome back Cook.

Here lies a big problem…Cook strictly plays Left Cornerback, so just like teams did when game planning for Nmadi, they will move their best WR to the opposite side of the field. I fully expect teams to be giving Cook the “Nmadi Treatment,” and what I mean by that is teams will rarely go after Cook. They will attack Allen, Winfield, and Burton early and often.

Remember when you guys vilified me for saying that “Talent” is more important than “Character?” Well guess what, the Bears Knew Marshall punched a girl and they Still decided to go after him.

Owners and GM’s think just like how I do. If a player can produce results on the field, then they arent too concerned about what they do off the field. This happens on a consistent basis guys. Im not the only person who thinks this way.

They are football players First, role-models Second.

Looked up Miami’s 2004 draft, with 6 picks Spielman picked 3 O-lineman (1st round OT, 6th round center (didn’t have a 2nd or 3rd round pick that year), and a 7th round OT) as well as a 5th round safety and a 4th round cornerback. Their needs that year were supposedly Offensive line and defensive backs. So everybody get off the fire Spielman train, he hasn’t done nothing has happened yet, definetely not enough for anyone to consider firing him. At least give him this year, then make your decisions.

Spencer there is a difference between innocence and not guilty, he was found not guilty, it is called jury nullification. He is a big NFL player; you or I would be in jail, that would be for sure, that being I am happy the Vikings will have one more on the field good defensive player. His troubles are not over yet, he will have to face the NFL and any civil case that she may bring.

Rock, please at least read my comment. I said that TE was NOT one of our top needs, I feel that OL, DB and WR are more important (I still believe that the vikes will resign Erin Henderson). However, to claim that we need a DE more than a TE is ridiculous. The only TE we have is Rudolph, whereas at DE we have Allen, Robison (based on last year’s performance I would take him over Peppers), and Griffen (who, by all accounts, is a very talented, young DE with great speed, size, and strength). I will, however, give you that it was a little over the top to say that Peppers sucked, but he didn’t play up to expectations whereas Robison played beyond them.

Nobody changed their game plans last year because of Peppers either. A few years ago, definetely, but last year he had 37 tackles, 11 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. Robison had 44 tackles, 8 sacks (keep in mind that he was splitting sacks with the leading sacker in the NFL), and 3 forced fumbles. So based purely on LAST YEAR’S performance, I would take Robison.

I don’t have a problem with getting a TE, but we already have 2 TE and could draft a TE later in the Draft. I also think that Spielman is over paying Carlson and not sure why.
