From Minnesota To Los Angeles?

Posted by Mike Wobschall on March 4, 2012 – 12:52 pm

The title of this blog entry surely grabbed your attention because of the possibility that the long-standing stadium impasse in Minnesota will result in the Vikings making like the Lakers and moving from Minnesota to Los Angeles.

And now that we have your attention, we’ll let you know the real story behind this headline. (Hint: it doesn’t have anything to do with the stadium issue)

For now, the only member of the Vikings contemplating a move from Minnesota to Los Angeles is safety Jarrad Page. The LA Times’ Dylan Hernandez reports that Page was one of a record 125 players who attended the Los Angeles Dodgers open tryout on March 1.

Hernandez also noted that Page, who played college football at UCLA, also played baseball at the school and was actually drafted three times in baseball, most recently by the Angels in the 7th round in 2006.

Page is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent on March 13.

Mike, whats going on with our Cornerback Chris Cook? Tomorrow is the big day. What happens in the court will dictate what we do in the draft, and Free Agency.

And now that I read the story….Who the He|| cares about Jerrad Page?

  3. By vikings4life on Mar 4, 2012 | Reply

Come On spencer, yea Page isnt a household name but for the time being he is a Viking. We all have to be behind every player that wears purple and gold, thats a true fan. But do i agree about knowing more on CC yes but lets think for a second you think the Vikings have not told Mike not to write about Chris and his situation until the legal matter is resolved. You have to remember this is a billion dollar business so there has to be limitations to what mike can write about

Thanks for all the response to my rants. I am not going to be able to respond to everyone.

Mike B., You need to organize your thoughts!!! I’m not sure what you are saying.
Did you say that Kalil is a racist? It might help to make some paragraphs.

Shawn., Thanks for summarizing the “general thinking” on the OL over the last three years. My point was that WE were wrong. Spielman or someone should have recognized the emergency in 2009. They have the inside story.

Shawn thanks for backing me on the “Tebowing” label. It was meant by most to be a glorifying remark.

@Parody., I have saved the info. you gave me on the APA paper, and also conferred with the instructor involved. Thank you.

As far as pulling the “race card,” the only time race card is used is when someone is upset about someone mentioning RACE or factors relating to it. They feel that they have to defend themselves because they feel GUILTY!!!

@Sandiamond, Your point about Mike Mayock is a valid one. Where did this guy come from, and why is he the expert on the Vikings?

So what is the story of this article? I am still trying to get over the last blog article. For example, who can find an error in this sentence? I am so surprised at these errors because Wobble attended one of our premiere Minnesota colleges.

Thursday morning was a busy won for the Vikings, as Governor Mark Dayton was joined by State Legislators, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, business and labor leaders, and team owners Zygi and Mark Wilf at the State Capitol to an agreement to build a new “People’s Stadium” on the current Metrodome site.

    @the DRS,

I have read quite a bit of your writing the last week. The debate you wrote about whether Jared Allen should be traded or not, was fantastic :)

If you are not a professional writer, you should think about becoming one :)

I do not think that Jared Allen should be traded, unless a very unusual trade could be arranged (similar to the one the Cowboys got for Hershel Walker!!!).

  12. By Frederick Jones on Mar 4, 2012 | Reply

..of course Titus is already a professional writer!

  18. By Mike B. on Mar 4, 2012 | Reply

@Fred what i was saying although I agree with you about Kalil. I don’t care for you pulling the race card when you decide it suits you. I do think in fact that you maybe racist yourself. I pointed out awhile ago that the coaches feel that Ponder is a better QB than Webb. You pulled your race card on me. Fraizer himself just said in an recent interview that Webb is a great #2 QB. It’s obvious the coaching staff feels is not good enough for the starting job. I feel you need to evaluate your thinking and see if you are not in fact a racist.

True, but hes not that valuable.

Spencer, from the perspective of holding him a couple more years and losing the future rewards of a trade in the present, you may be right. I know where you are coming from– others on here don’t see it, but you are the vikings.com genius.

Trading Allen for picks could be helpful the team in the long run, but it could set the team back even more then it already is. Allen is the most valuable player on our defense at this point in time.

When, and if the Vikings play the Dirt-Bag Saints, we will need J. Allen..

Some have stated, “Have the Vikings play just as Dirty”…

I say, Let us all wait and see if the NFL is going to do something. or just flap their jaws….Any attempts to rock some heads would only give those “Game Officals” a reason to keep looking the other way (More so then in the past) when our players get smashed on the field..

Keep a happy thought..sooner or later a player will come flying out of bounds smack-dab into Coach Williams on the sideline…oops..No charge Coach!!

Trading Allen could be a good idea for the long run (5-8 years). However, if we are planning to succeed with the group of talented players we have now (AP, Harvin, Greenway) and wish to be back in contention for divisional title in a year or two, it would be a mistake to trade him. Not to mention the fact that he is now one of the faces of the vikings so trading him would hurt the fan base, which would in turn hurt the amount of money that the Vikings would bring in. It would be similar to the steelers trading Big Ben or the Saints trading Brees.

The Hennepin County trial of the Vikings’ best cornerback, Chris Cook, is set for jury selection Monday. The trial is expected to last into next week.

Cook, 25, is charged with felony assault and felony domestic assault strangulation of his girlfriend, who has a ruptured eardrum. His defense will be self-defense.

Cook’s future with the Vikings will be determined by the verdict, the NFL’s response and the team’s response. Cook, who has no history of assault, at worst isn’t expected to get prison time. If found guilty, though, he could receive jail time.

I get what Spencer is saying. Spencer is an elite blogger. He thinks multi-dimensional. He understands all your stats– but Spencer is forward thinking. What is Allen worth in a trade in his prime? Are the Vikings poised to win now, or are we rebuilding? It may be smart to trade him and gain more value in the long term than what he is worth now. Having two or three great players on an otherwise hurting team does what good?

What Chris cook did is never okay never has been and never will be and he should be ashamed of that. Youd hope an event like that would change your outlook on life and have him realize how horrible that was. But people deserve second chances and on a football note which is the business the vikings are in by the way. He is amazing, huge physical and yea he struggled his rookie season but so many corners do. The speed of the NFL takes time to adjust to more so for a corner then any other position.

Heres my conspiracy theory. Cooks’ girl and the sketchy neighbors were all in ca-hoots. She was a gold digger that was trying to get every dollar out of him. So she came up with a plan…

When Cook and her were making passionate love. She told him to slap her around a bit and choke her. The signal to the neighbors to call the police was when she screamed. So once she got Cook convicted she would split the money with the neighbors.

    Hopefully the jury realizes this.

This seems to be the year of the franchise tag. I had hoped the Vikings would sign a high end free agent… but now I think I need change my tune. Sing a new song. Most of the top free agents are getting tagged.

I am officially lowering my FA target to CB Richard Marshall of the Arizona Cardinals. 27 years old, with 17 career ints, 434 total tackles, and has played corner, nickle and safety. Richard was drafted in the 2nd round by the Panthers in 2006.

I also like David Hawthorne at MLB. He has better coverage skills than Jasper Brinkley. David is 26 years old and has started 19 games for Carolina. He was a 3rd round pick in the 2008 draft.

    Jason La Canfora
Cardinals OT Brown likely to become free agent By Jason La Canfora |
Published: March 4th, 2012 | Tags: Free agency, Arizona Cardinals, Levi Brown

It continues to look increasingly likely that Cardinals LT Levi Brown will become a free agent and hit the open market, according to a league source.

Brown has one year left on his deal but will count for $17 million against the Cardinals’ salary cap. Efforts to re-negotiate his contract haven’t proved fruitful, and the team would release Brown without a new deal.

Brown likely will be highly rated by other teams if he and the Cardinals don’t reach an agreement on a new deal and he becomes a free agent March 13.

Brown was the fifth overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. In five seasons, the 27-year-old has started 75 games.

    @Mike B.

Take it from one of your friends on Vikings.com, you must
do something about your writing. We cannot understand what you are trying to say!!!

Here is a sample of what your paragraphs look like:

“And then Allen no actually Brown is better. Why are you guys saying that. anyway you know who is better. Spielman should pick an offensive lineman in the first Okay now about Cook, he is way better than Griffen, I know I have seen him play and Ponder is the best rookie QB have ever seen Webb at quarterback. He is so fast. Rudolph should and also Gerhart. Why does everyone want a cornerback. Anyway you are wrong about that. Stop with all the other stuff.”

Mike I would like to see some spaces between some of the lines occasionally. Check to see that you actually wrote what you wanted to write before you submit!

Then we would know what you are talking about!!!

The following are some of my answers to comments from my posts in the “New Stadium Proposal By The Numbers” blog.

@Fred I said you maybe racists yourself. Once more I said I think you maybe racist. Dude you pull the race card way too much. You need to re-evaluate your thinking on these issues. You might be the one that is racist. Once more I think that it just possible you are racist. You get it.

  153. By Mike B. on Mar 5, 2012 | Reply

I agree with Fred about drafting Kalil depending on what the Colts and Rams do. If they pick Luck and RG3 at pick one and pick two, I feel we should not trade our pick. We should adress our need on the OL and get Kalil.

  154. By Mike B. on Mar 5, 2012 | Reply

@Fred you pulled the race card on me when I stated the coaches feel that Ponder is better than Webb. I pointed out that they wouldn’t have drafted Ponder as high if they thought Webb was the guy. Just recently Fraizer himself stated that Webb was a great “#2″ QB. This confirms what I have said all along. This is from a black coach on a black player. There is no racism there. Get real Fred.

  155. By Mike B. on Mar 5, 2012 | Reply

I don’t agree beyond pick one that we should necessarily draft needs only. We are going to get 10 picks in this draft. We should also address best player at the spot too.

    Rd 1- OT Matt Kalil
Rd 2- WR Stephen Hill/ LB Vontaze Burfict/ S Mark Barron (BPA)
Rd 3- CB Chase Minnifileld/ Stephon Gilmore/ S George Iloka (BPA)
Rd 4- CB Trumaine Johnson/ LB Sean Spence/ DT Mike Martin/ OT/OG Amini Silatolu & James Brown (BPA)

The best out of the three I listed that is available is who we should pick. I have 5 guys listed for 4th round because im hearing thats what round we will have the extra pick.

There is enough depth at WR CB and DT that we can find a solid player at those positions in the middle rounds, Or if in the 2nd or 3rd round one ends up falling to us that is just too good to pass up I say take him.

One thing Ive learned from the draft over the years is players could fall. players that were predicted to go in the 1st could fall to 2nd or even 3rd round. Teams will pass on BPA to get need and that could result in some great players falling to us when they had no business being there in the first place. BPA should be considered when there is just too good a player to pass up. Say for example Janoris Jenkins falling to us with the 35th pick?

As much as everyone would think getting Janoris Jenkins is filling a need that is not completely true. Chase Minnifield and Stephen Gilmore would fill a need because those guys are more familiar with zone than Jenkins is. Im not implying Jenkins cant play zone or cant learn to play zone at the NFL level im just saying that bringing him into a zone defense like the Cover 2 we run might not have as an immediate effect on our d as guys like Minnifield or Gilmore would.

Wow…. Spencer isn’t very smart, is he? Using Spencer’s so called logic, I don’t believe that there is a valuable player on defense in the league. No one guy completely changes the ability of the opponent to score by himself, so they must all be pretty wor.thless. If a HoF caliber WR is on a team with a scrub QB, and only catches 2 ba.lls a game, he’s pretty useless as well. I suppose the only players with any value are QBs, and possibly RBs, as they can most directly affect the outcome of any one contest.

Let’s just hope that Spencer’s last name is Spielman, or we are toast….
