A Few Vikings Storylines To Follow
Posted by on February 13, 2012 – 7:13 amI’ve been away on vacation the past few days, but that doesn’t mean I’m not keeping up with Vikings-related developments in the news. Here are a few storylines I’ve taken note of over the past several days and how they impact the Vikings.
Feel free to chime in on any of them by providing your thoughts in the comments section below this entry…
– The Oakland Raiders released CB Stanford Routt on Thursday. This news becomes relevant to the Vikings immediately because the secondary is an area of the team that could use an influx of talent. I addressed the question of whether Routt would fit with the Vikings in this week’s Monday Morning Mailbag, so check it out to read more about this possibility.
– Staying in the secondary, it was reported that Alabama S Mark Barron will have surgery to repair two hernias, which will prevent him from participating in the Combine and could cause his draft stock to fall. For his sake, hopefully these developments won’t adversely impact his NFL career. For the Vikings sake, I wonder if a big drop in Barron’s draft stock could put the team in position to nab the best safety in the draft with the 3rd pick of the 2nd round. My sense is that would be a huge steal for the Vikings. This is complete speculation on my part, but isn’t that what we’re supposed to do at this point in the pre-draft process?
– The Pittsburgh Steelers restructured the contracts of CB Ike Taylor and LBs Lawrence Timmons and LaMarr Woodley to create cap space. Don’t be surprised if we similar news from the Vikings this offseason, as they face several of what I call “50-50” decisions on veteran players. CB Cedric Griffin, LB EJ Henderson, G Steve Hutchinson and CB Antoine Winfield are just a few examples of players with whom this tactic may (or may not) apply.
– Kevin Acee of UT San Diego writes that the San Diego Chargers are likely to cut LT Marcus McNeill to clear cap space. LT is another position often speculated about regarding the Vikings, but most of the speculation centers on acquiring a LT in the draft. Obviously LT is a premier position in the NFL, so it’s rare to find a good one available in free agency. But McNeill would be a good one and he could be available in free agency. He’s 28 years old and is a two-time Pro Bowler. Something to consider at least.

Routt gave up 9TD’s last year for the Raiders. Why should we go after this guy again?
By Spencer on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
Please, for the love of God…..Cut Cedric Griffin Leslie. You ignorantly released Bryant McKinnie before the season to make a point. So why not cut the player who routinely did NOT perform on Sunday? Week in and week out Cedric gave up TD’s that hurt the Minnesota Vikings chances of winning. WR’s were eager to be matched up against Griffin because they knew they had an advantage.
I want somebody to give me TWO reasons for why we should keep the guy.

And somebody tell Winfield to move his A– to Strong Safety. 3-4 million a year to be in the slot? Please, Benny Sapp is a good Nickel Cornerback in his own right. If Winfield still refuses to play safey, Cut Him.

These were our Secondary players in 2010. Their Pass Defense was ranked 10th…yes, 10th. And that was the year when Jared Allen and company got absolutely no pressure on the opposing Quarterbacks.
Husain Abdullah FS

Lito Sheppard CB
Marcus Sherels CB
Frank Walker CB
Antoine Winfield CB

The release of Briant Mckinney was not an ignorant decision.. He was lazy and came in too over weight. He would have continued this until he got a wake up call and unfortunately for the vikings, that wake up call was his release.. Leslie made the right decision.. Sometimes players need events like this to get their stuff together.
By OTKalil2012 on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
Lisa…Your blog couldn’t be more correct…McKinney was told by Frazier after the 2009 season to come back to training camp for the 2010 seaosn in better shape and a playing weight lighter than he was at during the the 2009 season…Instead of losing weight…He put on a ton of weight…And came in totally out of shape…Not taking any of Frazier’s advice was foolish on McKinney’s end…The mistake was not in getting rid of McKinny…But that the Vikings might have gotten something for the slob in a trade…If they would have tried that route before releasing him…
By OTKalil2012 on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
When a team is rebuilding…That team has “one shot” at releasing veterans and just going totally on youth…Veterans are still going to complain on players released…And if they do…They should be traded or released also…And that means ANY negative comments or players to the new system being put in place…So I am hoping the “restructured contracts” don’t happen at all…Vikings tried the “all in” veteran roster to win a super bowl…That almost worked but didn’t…Now the team is left with a mess…Its time to get young and grow as a team…With a very young team…I expect big changes this season…And expect it to all be with a total youth movement…

Cedrick Griffen was recovering from an acl tear in both his knees, hes a solid player who came on strong towards the end of last year, why get rid of him if we have nobody to replace him? And Spence, Finnegan isnt going to happen, Vikings wont go after him it seems.

Moss is coming back lets sign him! On NFL.Com it says Randy is coming back and had decided to take 2011 off due to some personal issues. I’m sure we could get him for an ok price and god nows he can stil play football! I’d offer him a contract in a heartbeat! Even if he doesn’t play at full speed Randy just being Randy he’ll probably still get double coverage which would more than help out percy and Aromashodu.!.

Chargers OT Marcus McNeil was good but with nagging injuries his skills have droped quickly. FA OT Jared Gaither also played for the Chargers and he played better than McNeil and is younger.

The Front Office should target FA Wr Dwayne Bowe he is the best available and he draws double teams. If they miss out on him they should try to get Wr Stevie Johnson yes he is a No. 2 who acts like a CLOWN but he puts up good numbers and will not cost as much as Bowe, V. JAX, or Colston.

So let met try to wrap my head around this- A player who is told during the OFF-SEASON to keep his weight down simply ignored the coach and as a result gets cut. But players DURING a game ignore the coaches play-calls and as a result they get to stay on the team?
Not keeping your weight down is worse than Ignoring plays the coach called?

Winfield should be moved to safety in my opinion he still has a big place on this roster. They need help at CB there is no doubt but dont give up on Cedric yet. The guy had huge potential before that double ACL tear, he can still be a good corner plus he was in the top 5 in tackles this year. I would love to see Justin Blackmon in purple next year with the #3 pick. CB and OL are also big needs. If cook comes back and we draft a CB with winfield at S i think the secondary will be solid.

Spielman needs to sign Moss,if he still has the ability to play the game then great,if he can’t go,it sure would be nice to see him retire as a Viking. He deserves that much i think.
Mckinnie had to go,not only because of the weight it was also a fact he was playing his position lazy.During the AFC championship game Mckinnie showed his true self again, playing like a turd.
It would be nice to see activity in the free agency, but it ain’t happenin’ if the state doesn’t get crackin’ and take the stadium issue with some urgency.
D. jax will be franchised… so you can forget that.Landry from the ‘skins and Grubbs from the Ravens would be sweet.
Vikings need to trade down. Here’s how it gonna work.Colts take Luck,Rams will either trade down or take Kalil or Blackmon.I believe with Coach Fischer at the reins they will take Kalil(USC connect) The Vikes will trade with the Browns, receiving in return the 4th and 24th in the first round.Browns take RG III and the Vikes draft either Claiborne,Blackmon,or Reiff, alot will depend on the combines in ten days.

Spencer- Dont worry the Vikingis will release Cedric Griffin. It will happen and we are still waiting for the court on March 5th for Chris Cook. Obviously if he gets away either way the coach will have alot of desclinpary to him on the offseason to make up his mistake for the off field behavior.

Now back to Bryant McKinnie conversation earlier. He is 10 times better than Charlie Johnson and we are pretty much stupid to released him even when we could just put him in speical programs to help him lose weight. The Ravens team did just that to Bryant McKinnie, he didn’t play the first NFL game as a Ravens team until his weight is caught up. After he became a starter in Raven’s 2nd game, he was one of the greatest Free Agent steal since the SuperBowl in 2001 (not sure what year), and he is 5th Among best LT in 2011. So compare any of our O-LIne against him, Mckinnie beats all of our O-Line. So basically we made a fatal mistakes for releasing him, even worse we could just trade him and pick up a few picks off of him. Vikings is a mess, not Mckinnie.

I will be the first to say what he did is unacceptable just as a human regardless who he is or anything like that.
But people make mistakes especially young people most of us probably don’t know what its like to be 22 23 and making millions you just think your untouchable.
He should get another chance and hope that this changes him as a person so that he never will do this again because he has the skills to be the best corner in the NFC no doubt 6 2″ and when he is confident he can stop anyone.
Thats why with him and we need to draft claiborne or trade back and get dre kirkpatrick first round and get the saftey from alabama second we would have a superbowl defense. Toby gerhart will rush for 1500 yrds cause ap wont be back and we wont rush him because we wont need him….. till the superbowl.

What is the point Moss Fans? He assaulted the police officer in downtown Minneapolis. Just beacuse he wasn’t as bad as Chris Cook is because he made 120 million dollars. Chris Cook made 575,000, it is easier to put him in jail or suspended him when we can’t do that to Moss because then it will cost us MONEY. WAKE UP MORON
By LarsonFamily on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
Chris Cook is cheaper to get suspended and to get himi benched. We can afford that but to Moss, we COULD NOT AFFORD HIM TO BE BENCHED. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BENCHED ENTIRE YEAR, FOR HIS BEHAVIOR OFF THE FIELD. ARE YOU A CRACK HEAD? ITS THE MONEY CRACKHEAD.

By Moss Fan on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
Larson … what part of Moss plays 16 games per season are you missing?
By LarsonFamily on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
I personally like Randy Moss but for the fact of the Vikings they will not sign Randy Moss and never will. Now for the sake of your misleading concepts about Chris Cook how he never shows up, he was benched. If he was not benched he would of played every single game. He had no choice but being benched due to his off field behavior and I wish the Vikings had the guts to do that to Randy Moss and maybe, just maybe he would learned his lesson and change his behavior like he is now. He is 35, being cut by the Vikings, and Titians QB never threw him the ball, and then no NFL TEAMS wants Moss last year was his wake up call. It is part of his decplinary as of 1 year being benched for off field behavior. Same thing for Chris Cook , he got benched for 8 games last year and we had the guts to do it.
By LarsonFamily on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
Again, Moss Fan you obviously dont understand. Moss is supposed to be suspended for a year but we could not afford Moss to be suspended because he makes 120 millions and he is the only WR we have at the time. If we benched him then the Vikings team collasped it is like he is putting Vikings in hostage. Chris Cook, he makes 575,000 and it doesn’t affect us to have him benched him. We have multiple CB and our team are in Rebuilding Mode so it is like it don’t matter if he shows up or not. He still got benched 8 games last year for his off the field behavior.
By LarsonFamily on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
I am trying to be more basic and easy for you guys to undersand. Here is what Moss has done below.
Who received a 30-day jail sentence because of a fight?
While serving that 30 day jail sentence who tested positive for weed?
Who served 60 Extra days in jail for violating his probation?
Who was fined 25k for squirting an official
Who was fined 25k for touching an official in the same month?
Who was fined 15k for verbaly abusing Vikings staff?
Who takes plays off and says “I play, when I wanna play”?
Who was arrested after knocking over a traffic cop in his car?
Who was fined 5k for his role in a fight vs Chicago?
Who was fined 5k for spiking the ball at the foot of Dre’ Bly?
Who was fined 10k for mooning the Packers?
Who cowardly walked off the field with 2sec left against Washington?
Now has Moss learned a lesson from it? He has continue to create problematic for the teams and not once he was suspeneded from the games.
Now Chris Cook-
He choked his wife and got domestic abuse charges.
That is only 1 mistake he has done and he end up getting benched for 8 games, included paying big fine. Will he learn his lesson? Absolutely.
Now compare these two, who will learn their lesson, Moss or Cook? Obviously not Moss.

Larsongang, listen up. Not one of that laundry list on Moss is about hitting your significant other in your home. Squirting an official with a water bottle and mooning Green Bay fans is like a high school prank– take those off the list. Cook is a full grown big muscular athlete who showed strength by smacking a woman around? To think that was his first time is quite naive. The man needs help and I hope he gets it, but don’t compare lemons with pumpkins. Moss may have done some sour things, but Cook’s mess is much more haunting. And who are you to say Cook will absolutely learn from his mistake? Men that are abusive need serious long term help– deep anger and insecurities abound in his psyche.
By LarsonFamily on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
So it is okay to drive your car and run over a police officer in down town in Minneapolis? That lady is a woman and you are saying Chris Cook is bigger than Randy Moss’s car? So is it ok if we used Moss influence and run around in downtown running over all the police officers because Moss does it? No it is not ok. She went to the hospital and received speical care just like Chris Cook’s g/f has received. Randy not once got suspended from it while Chris Cook got suspended. How did Chris Cook finally get suspeneded from the Vikings is because we learned from Moss mistakes. We were smarter enough to stop him now and give him assitance help from all the options we gave him such as, counseling, thearphy, pscyhologist and etc to make sure he is going the right path. We did nothing but bend our knees and obey Moss terrible role models in the State of Minnesota.

While I respect the opinion of those who think that bringing in a 35 year old receiver in the middle of rebuilding a franchise (you know, trying to get younger) is a good thing, I feel the need to say this:
What the heck are y’all smokin’ and can I get some?!?
While Moss MIGHT be able to play yet, how many more years does he have in the tank? IMO the Vikes would be better served in acquiring a younger receiver in free agency (Stevie Johnson, as an example) or through the draft (*hint hint* Justin Blackmon). We’ve seen the Vikes bring in or hold onto veterans, but I think they need to make a concerted effort to get younger and more talented.

LT … Kalil or Reiff in Round 1 of the draft
RG … Charlie Johnson vs Anthony Herrera
MLB … a position that must be priority and will cost 8+ million for a long term solution
CB … draft is deep at corner but you must know a rookie corner will struggle
SS … probably find a good one for 5million dollar range
FS … Abdullah should be the solution. and shouldnt be too expensive with Raymond still learning the pro game and a solid #2
WR … Just like MLB it will be in the 8million dollar range, i think MLB is more important since we have Percy, Rudolph, and Michael Jenkins for weapons

Back to the point about Ponder. I’ve read tons of opinions and disloylaties from the Vikings Fans about Ponder. Already you guys has lot faith about Ponder in his first year as a QB. How could you!?!? Tom Brady, Peyton Manning are the best QB is because they have the best OLine while we have the worse OLine. Imagine that if these 2 QB is in our OLine will they be the best QB as they are now? Sadly to say, but no they wouldn’t be. Now to those disloyalites Vikings Fans, you need to understand Ponder has tried his best with the OLine we’ve got and he still proves he can compete to these 2 champions QB as their first year as a rookie. Here is the stats.
Peyton Manning … 326-575 = 56.7% completions … 3,739 yards … 26TD-28INT… 71.2 QB Rating
Eli Manning … 95-197 = 48.2% completions … 1,043 yards … 9TD-13INT … 55.4 QB Rating
Chr1stian Ponder … 158-291 = 54.3% completions … 1,853 yards … 13TD-13INT … 70.1 QB Rating
By the way, Ponder has only played 9 games while they had full season. Now if we have their OLine, his stats will be 2 times greater than it is now.

I agree that Moss did some stupid stuff while he was on our team, but he did some outstanding stuff for us too. If it weren’t for the stupid, he could have easily made himself a first-ballot hall of famer. However, the mooning incident should not, by any stretch be part of his list of misdeeds. He was simply mocking the other team by mimîcking something that they had done to him and the entire team every single year for his entire career. How is that any worse than pretending to hog-tie the QB? It has the same meaning, but uptight prudes are so terrified of children seeing anything that could have the slightest sèxual connotation, that they blew Moss’ one-time act way out of proportion.
Personally, I loved it. I thought it was hysterical, and well deserving to our biggest rival. But, the next thing you know, they’ll start fining and suspending players for slapping teammates’ rear ends after a good play.

By the way I looked up at the person who Moss hit is a woman. Funny thing is it is from Kare11 News.
Viking star Randy Moss will be charged with two misdemeanors following Tuesday’s run in with a Minneapolis traffic agent.
The agent, 27-year-old Amy Zaccardi, stepped in front of Moss’ car to stop him from making an illegal turn in downtown Minneapolis, and Moss used his car to slowly push the officer along the street, stopping when she fell to the ground, police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said.
Barrington said 27-year-old Amy Zaccardi is a city police officer.
By LarsonFamily on Feb 13, 2012 | Reply
Here is what the witness said.
One witness, Jerry Hullerman, said he was parked near the intersection when he saw Moss driving his car.
“I saw a really decked-out Lexus pushing the traffic person along,” said Hullerman, who was also interviewed by police. “It was really surreal.”
He said Zaccardi was facing forward while sitting on the front of the car with one hand on the hood and the other hand on her radio as the car pushed her along.
After a few seconds, Hullerman said, Moss tapped the accelerator and knocked her down.
“She fell flat on her face,” Hullerman said, adding that the driver didn’t get out of his car.
Hullerman said squad cars arrived seconds later and officers took Moss into custody.

I haven’t heard either side give their own explanation, but from the news I have witnessed on the subject I am certain that Cook is guilty. Zaccardi, 27, was directing traffic in downtown Minneapolis on Sept. 24. Police said Moss used his Lexus to push her a half-block, finally knocking her down, during the afternoon rush hour.
Zaccardi, of Coon Rapids, accuses Moss of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
Moss pleaded guilty in December to careless driving, a misdemeanor, and obstructing traffic, a petty misdemeanor. He was fined $1,200 and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service. A petty-misdemeanor marijuana charge was dismissed.

But I agree. From the info we have right now, Cook’s action is more dispicable. But how much of the information do we have? WHY did Cook strangle her? The simplest answer is that he got mad at her for something, lost his temper and went ape on her. But is the simplest answer the right one?
What if she pulled a gun, knife, or some blunt object on him in the middle of a dispute. Instead of backing down to her demands, Cook retaliated by attacking her before she could do anything to him with the weapon. Then, after Cook had disarmed her, he continued to exhert himself over her in his rage, strangling her to the brink of death. In this scenario, Cook obviously still did something dispicable, not backing down after he had controlled the issue. But it gives a much different light to the accusations against him, and could result in a significantly different end to the story.

i heard that Routt can’t play zone, so unless the Vikes revamp their HORRIBLE zone and play more MAN (UP) DEFENSE, we are not going to benefit from his services ( if that rumor is true) either way down with weak- a55 zone defense! Use it sparingly to get int’s. That’s why we never intercept; our zone is predictable and over-used. MAN UP, VIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moss is wanting back in the League and of course Vikings fans want him back. I don’t expect that happening. First Moss isn’t going to a Vet minimum pay to come back. He’s going to want a good pay day at least one with lots of incentive clauses. This is his 14th year, so I don’t see Vikings picking up a WR that will play one or two years max. You add in his baggage this is a no brainer stay clear of Randy Moss.

PLayers to cut:
1. Cedric Griffen
2. Antoine Winfield (if he dosnt move to Saftey)
3. Remmy Ayodele (waste of a DT)
4. Asher Allen
5. Husain Abdullah
Our needs at WR should come through FA
I dont see us getting vincent jackson, too much money and we are not really an attractive team unless we offer big money but i dont see us doing that, I see us getting Robert Meachem, Dwayne Bowe, Marquese Colston etc.
we need a DB from the draft, I want us to get the guy from LSU rated #1 DB out of this class. OR GET MATT KALIL either one would help

http://minnesota.sbnation.com/minnesota-vikings/2012/2/14/2797943/vikings-stadium-update-relocation-metrodome-mark-dayton
The Minnesota Vikings will likely go another year without any kind of plan on the table whatsoever. While it’s unlikely that the team actually moves forward with potential plans to relocate for 2012, they have until Wednesday to notify the league. It’s not likely that they’re able to get something done in that regard though, as there doesn’t seem to be anywhere for them to go.
This realization that there isn’t much of a threat of the Vikings actually leaving has basically made the legislators completely ignore the situation for the time being. Despite the fact that important stadium issues can still be worked on, it looks like everybody is happy to put it on the back-burner, as they have for the last decade.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Vikings-losing-momentum-for-new-stadium.html
A stadium plan for the Minnesota Vikings could be headed to the back burner for state legislators with more pressing business to attend to, including elections in new districts this coming fall.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the push for a new stadium at the state capitol has waned and now there is doubt it will come up any time soon without a site or financing plan nailed down. The Vikings have until Wednesday to inform NFL commissioner Roger Goodell if they plan to move for the 2012 season. That certainly isn’t expected, but the Vikings are a team without a lease right now.
“We’ll see what happens,” Vikings vice president Lester Bagley, the club’s point man for a new stadium, told the Star Tribune.
Some legislators have seemingly grown weary from the issue.
“The Vikings have tried to create the impression, through somewhat subtle threats, that they could move,” Rep. Ryan Winkler, a democrat from Golden Valley, said. “I think there’s a growing realization that the Vikings have nowhere to go.”
It is expected that the next plan to come forward will be one to build a new stadium adjacent to the Metrodome. That would ultimately allow the Metrodome site to be turned into an outdoor plaza that could hold concerts, shops, a parking garage and more.
The plan would be to have the stadium ready before the end of the 2016 season and would force the Vikings to go away for only a handful of games during the construction process, well short of a full season on the road at a place like TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
But right now it’s just a plan. There are no numbers. No financing and no legislators banging the drum to get it done.

Minnesotans tell Vikings to take new stadium and shove it
A new poll of Minnesota registered voters finds that nearly two-thirds think the Vikings should stay put in either the Metrodome as-is or a renovated building, with just 28% saying the team needs a new stadium.
The story on KSTP-TV, which commissioned the poll, naturally reports this as “Minnesotans remain split on the Metrodome.” For good measure, the ABC affiliate ran a second story proclaiming, “Minnesotans appear ready to accept an expansion of gambling to help pay for a new Vikings stadium” — which is marginally true in that 50% said yes to “Should legalized gambling be expanded in Minnesota to raise revenue to help finance a new stadium for the Vikings?” (vs. 39% no), but not so true in that 68% said any stadium should be built entirely with private money, which would preclude the use of gambling taxes. Though given that the station’s main story reports a total of 110% of respondents for the main question, we probably shouldn’t expect too much from them on analyzing the rest of the numbers

Stevie Johnson is an interesting FA option, I am glad that others have noticed. I have watched a lot of Steve Johnson, and he is a very good receiver. His vice is that he has some celebration Diva in him, but outside of that he is everything you want. He plays though injuries, he helps the other receivers, and does not cry about not getting the ball (he did cry when he dropped that pass that would have won the game and put the Bills into the 2010 playoffs, but just that once)
If we hitch up to the Moss traveling Carnivale again I just might just kick my neighbor’s dog (I don’t have one)

Latimer notes that St. Paul residents resoundingly rejected a sales tax increase for a Twins stadium in 1999. Just two years earlier, in 1997, Minneapolis voters changed their city’s charter to prevent Minneapolis from spending more than $10 million on stadiums without a public vote. As part of his plan, Rybak would ask the Legislature to override that charter rule

Fred, actually there are several reasons the Vikings couldn’t do it. Two of the major ones are the fact that the NFL would never permit it, because these fields don’t come close to meeting NFL standards. Secondly, I don’t think the Wilfs would be very happy with their team drawing “sell-outs” of 6000.

Cook missed games due to injures and his legal situation.
Not once did he quit DURING an actual game like Randy Moss!

I’d love to see the Vikings get after Marques Colston and Cortland Finnegan. They can dump off EJ Henderson, Antoine Winfield, and Cedric Griffin to make the cap room.
I can’t wait for free agency to start. This could be a great free agent year for the Vikings if they play their cards right. They have to land at least one marquee player on offense and defense this year.
Forget about Stanford Routt, Brent Grimes from Atlanta would play better at a lower cost.

Don’t know what goes on there in Minnysoda, but it is quite obvious, that you folks just flat out don’t like your sports teams there in the land of Paul Bunions and where hockey is suppose to be the king of sports, but yet you lost that team as well, to Dallas,Texas!! Hockey in Texas, what a slap in the face. You nearly lost the Twins, but the politians there decided to build a new stadium for the Twins, because they were worth keeping, being that baseball is the number one sport in America, NOT!! Football is the number one sport in America, and if you don’t get a new stadium done soon, you will lose another team to LA.

Moss plans NFL return after physical rigors of retirement begin to wear on him
Six-time Pro Bowler Randy Moss, who walked away from the NFL before the start of the 2011 season, announced his desire to return to football this past weekend, insisting that he couldn’t sustain the physical demands a life of retirement places on his body.
“I just can’t do it,” said Moss about retirement. “In the NFL you get to take breaks. A few plays on, several plays off. Sit down when you want to, head to the locker room early, mess around with the fans and reporters. Retirement ain’t nothing like that man. It’s tough.”
Moss cited instances in which he had to prepare his own food, seek out his own medical care, play with his children, entertain his girlfriend and pick out his own clothes as some of the unwelcome aspects of retired life. “I didn’t have to do any of that in the NFL. I got my paycheck and people took care of that for me. If I didn’t like the food I was given, I bixxxxx about it. What am I supposed to do now, bixxx to myself? No way.”
Moss grew even more incredulous when he discussed the topic of financial compensation. “Get this,” he said growing more vocal. “I made more money in the NFL than I do having to put my body through all this physical torment in retirement. Why would someone do that? Way I see it, I’m going to stay in the NFL for as long as I can. Figure playing the way I play, I can go well into my 80s.”

I am not surprised one iota Moss came out of retirement– he wants redemption. The way he exited tarnished his legacy– he wants to go out on a high note. One thing we can agree on is Randy Moss has a huge ego. To think he will not have a breakout year is naive.
By Mike B. on Feb 15, 2012 | Reply
Titus that I agree on if Moss has all his skills and the gas. He could have a break out year. If he could reign in that ego like 50 percent, he would never worry about his legacy. I don’t think the Vikings should touch him though. He is too disruptive. We are not in a position yet to make a playoff run.

NFC West:Seattle,San Francisco,Arizona and the newest member the Los Angeles Vikings
We again would like to thank the state of Minnesota for another great sports team, we realize that no free agents will want to come to Minnesota, because of no stadium deal, but once they move to LA you will be able to attract many free agents, with an outdoor stadium and state of the art facilities and you will be able to date the hottest woman on the planet

Mike B– I agree in theory about his disruptive behavior and that we may not be in the playoff hunt, but who really knows? If we draft and trade well enough to have a good to very good O line and AP makes it back– with our schedule, we could get back to winning all our home games and get to 10 or more wins. @LA unfortunately the NFL is forcing the issue now and the Vikings will stay in MN so long as a stadium deal is possible. Will the Vikings hold off signing a contract with the Metrodome for 2012 you bet this keeps the pressure on the legislature. LA is off the radar this year and the NFL made sure of it. The NFL doesn’t want to lose this market. LA has had their football teams and lost as the market there is not great for football. Maybe in the future they will get a team in LA, but I don’t think it will be the Vikings.

http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Vikings_optimistic_financing_plan_for_stadium_will_be_ready_in_days021412?t=2
The Minnesota Vikings are optimistic that a financing plan for a new stadium on the site of the Metrodome will be in front of legislators in a matter of days.
Lester Bagley, Vikings’ vice president of public affairs and stadium development, said Tuesday that talks between team officials, state and Minneapolis leaders and the NFL have “intensified in recent days.”
“There are still a couple of issues that separate us, but I think by and large the economics of an agreement are there,” Bagley said. “Meaning how much does it cost? Who puts in what? What are the operating costs? Some of the major issues.
“There’s nothing to announce yet, but we’re all working hard. I think there’s opportunity and appetite to resolve that this session.”

What you do off the field is a reflection of what you are truly made of– when the lights are not on you– it is important to find players of character who exhibit self-control or you will have a lot of problems on the field—poor team chemistry, no self-control, lots of stupid penalties, etc.

BTW if you didnt read the Harvin story its MOSSOME
More details are coming up about the little practice dust-up between Brad Childress and Percy Harvin on Friday. Previously, we had been told that Chilly and Harvin got into a “heated argument” after Childress questioned Harvin’s effort on the practice field. Now, ESPN’s Ed Werder is saying the altercation between coach and receiver actually went beyond a mere exchange of words. Sources say Harvin and Childress came close to getting physical with each other, and had to be separated.
Here’s the amusing part for those who’ve made a hobby out of hating Childress: after the near-fight, one of Harvin’s teammates reportedly went up to him and said, “You just did what a lot of us have been wanting to say for years.”
Clearly, Harvin said something that got under Childress’ skin. As we saw during the Randy Moss debacle, Chilly doesn’t take kindly to be criticized by his players. Harvin may deserve points for having the nerve to say it to Chilly’s face, unlike others who’ve gone through the media. What a friggin’ mess P)

Vikings’ plan for new stadium hitting snags By Arragon Perrone
Wed, Feb 15th 2012 8:44 am EST The Minnesota Vikings continue their search for a new stadium, while a deal with the state of Minnesota and the city of Minneapolis remains elusive. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak’s plan calls for the construction of a new $1 billion stadium next to the aging Hubert Humphrey Metrodome. Having a building adjacent to the current facility would allow the Vikings to host games during construction, missing only a handful of games in 2016.
Mayor Rybak’s plan funds the project through a combination of tax increases and extensions. Three percent liquor and restaurant taxes will be implemented downtown. According to TwinCities.com, 1,000 parking meters will see rates spike to $25 on game days and the city will impose a $30 mandatory fee on just under 2,000 parking spaces. These fees are expected to generate $31 million. Projections show new revenue streams netting $31 million. Hotel and sales taxes will cover the new stadium as well as the nearby convention center and the Target Center, home of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves. Projections suggest that the ticket sales tax would increase revenue by $60 million over a 30-year period. Property taxes set to expire in 2020 and 2024 would be extended, collecting $55 million in revenue.

Vikings Commit to Playing 2012 Season in MN
Updated: Tuesday, 14 Feb 2012, 11:15 PM CST
Published : Tuesday, 14 Feb 2012, 11:15 PM CST
ST. PAUL, Minn. – On Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings made a commitment to play the 2012 season in Minneapolis, ending fears that the team would make a move in the near future.
Even though the move shows the team is willing to spend more time in the state, the effort to get a stadium deal done to keep the team here in the future is intensifying.
Dayton held a conference call on Tuesday with Ted Mondale, the point-man on the stadium who is working hard to finalize a deal with Minneapolis that would involve building on or near the Metrodome site.
Still, there are challenges in financing the stadium in Minneapolis — especially since City Council support remains in doubt.
The Vikings said they have no intention of telling the NFL they want to relocate for the upcoming season, and they remain focused on getting a stadium deal done in Minnesota.
While working on the stadium details, Dayton also has been working on improving the tone with Republicans in the Legislature by holding a breakfast meeting with GOP leaders

I remain very skeptical about our politicians. For over a year I have been seeing stories that “the team is close to finalizing a stadium plan” but it always get pushed back. They’re all worried about getting themselves re-elected, but if ground hasn’t been broken by the time the election comes around, I don’t care what the other issues are, I’m voting for whoever isn’t in office right now.

So the Vikings are going to play one more year in the dome with the hope that the state of no will say yes someday soon. It is good that the Vikings will be in Minnesota for at least one more year. So how long will we the fans have to wait one more year to see if the legislatures will get the Vikings a new stadium? How long will this go on, forever? There will always be an election just around the corner; there will never be plenty of money in the state’s coffers to pay for everything. The longer the state waits the more the cost goes up. How long must the Vikings wait to get a new stadium, how long must the Vikings take this BS?

First off, BMB!!!!! Bring Moss Back!!! He started a Viking and i dont see him finishing out his career any other way!
Ok now that i got that off my chest, Wobbs you are right landing Barron with the 35th pick would be a huge steal and would meake me so happy. I swear if this team drafts a corner before a safety im going to lose it. Steelers D is not the same without polamolu. The Cheifs D was amazing with eric berry, not so much without him. The colts D fell right off when Bob Sanders (who is from my home town of Erie PA btw) couldnt stay on the feild. Charles woodson goes out int the SB and the packs d still got it done. Why? because they have safetys who can actually make plays. I cant stress enough how important it is to actually have a good player out on our last line of the defense.
I believe OLine should be before anything. I can wait on a corner. Im tired of seeig the best RB in the league underperforming because the guys up front cant do what they get paid to do.
Im not for cutting Ced Grif. restructure his contract but releasing him is not going to solve anything. I should be seeing cut asher allen coments bfore i see cut griffen comments. Griffen as a safety would be interesting. as would winfeild. but i doubt it will happen. that should have happened 1 maybe 2 years ago.
in the 2nd round and beyond. we should draft the best player available. for several reasons. 1.) i dont trust taking a chance on a player because of need over taking a player you know is the best available. 2.) its that type of thinking that was the reason we stole rudolph and everson griffen and joe webb and percy and AD and a guy named RANDY ‘the freak’ MOSS. and 3.) I WANT THE BEST DAMMIT NOT PLAYERS WHOLE ARE ONLY THERE TO FILL A ROLE.
I would only draft a Corner if you kno for a fact he is the best player at his position than any other players at their position left on the board. Its about winning not trying to fix a position that was set up to fail since the start of the year. ENOUGH WITH THE COVER !!!!!!!!!!!!
GODD NIGHT VIKINGS FAITHFUL!

@DRS and the rest of you Viking fans:
enjoy your last season with your beloved Vikings, because it will be your last!! Why this owner is wasting his time on a city who could care less about it’s football team, is beyond me!! We here in the City of Angels, will take good care of our new football team!! When we move the Vikes to LA, we will leave the likes of Chris Cooks’ and Randy Moss’ behind, because we will not tolerate the players dictating how we will run our team, “NO THUGS”!!!!
This will probably end up being like the Quebec Nordiques moving to Colorado and winning the Stanley Cup the next year!! The Vikings will be so glad to be in beautiful California, that they will play over there heads and win the Vince Lombardi Trophy!!

It’s great to see the passion that you guys do have for your team, it’s to be commended!! I have always been a fan of the Vikings, but it always seemed to me that this team is somewhat jinxed!! Maybe a move is what is needed to break this curse!! The Vikings are right there with the Cubs and any other team that has never won a championship or hasn’t won a championship in a long time. We will change that here in LA, turning the Vikings into a winner right away.
I’m impressed with the knowledge you all have for your team, except Spencer, that poor kid seems to be lost. Someone needs to choke some common sense into that kid. Keep up the passion for another year.

Many Minnesotans have told us that they are not satisfied with any of the Vikings stadium funding schemes that have been offered so far. We are creating a solution that not only would pay for the public’s share of the stadium, but would generate money for critical state priorities.
All revenue from MinnesotaWins would stay in the State of Minnesota.
Net revenue would be split 50/50 between the White Earth tribe and the people of Minnesota. The casino also would pay property taxes and sales taxes.
A new casino would create about 2,500 construction jobs and up to 2,000 new and permanent jobs.
A new casino would be a job generator for Greater Minnesota. Revenue from the casino would come back to northwestern Minnesota where it would fund investments in housing, economic development, health care and education.

Despite significant political momentum throughout California for a downtown Los Angeles stadium that would house an NFL team, the league had a recent message for people involved with the project:
Right now, no thanks.
During a Sept. 6 meeting at the NFL offices in New York, commissioner Roger Goodell told Los Angeles Councilwoman Jan Perry and political aide Bernard Parks, Jr. that neither the league nor any team interested in moving there would agree to the business proposal set forth by Anschutz Entertainment Group, according to three sources with knowledge of the conversation. AEG is the private company that has offered to build and operate a retractable-roof stadium, which would be named Farmers Field, on the site that is currently part of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

GDP, your draft philosophy has one huge flaw in it. Well, a couple huge flaws, actually.
Take the best player available at the time, regardless of our needs? Just imagine if the best player available each time the Vikings’ number comes up is a QB. So, we just keep selecting QBs, because they are the best player available at the time. How’s that going to plug holes in our secondary? How’s that going to make our O-line and D-line stronger?
“Did you see Griffen give up those 7 TDs for over 70 yards each? New NFL record.” “Yeah, but we’ll pull through…. we have the best 14 QBs in the league!!!”
As far as Moss goes, tell ya what – I’ll send him my Moss jersey so he can retire in a Viking’s uniform. He probably doesn’t have any of his old ones hanging in the closet. That way we don’t have to waste any time, effort, or money on a lost cause.

Los Angeles as a bargaining chip
Cynics also claim that the National Football League teams do not truly want an NFL franchise in Los Angeles, as it would remove the threat of actually moving an existing team to Los Angeles, a major bargaining chip in negotiations for new stadiums.[23] Building, renovating, or even maintaining a stadium to the caliber of most NFL teams can cost over US$100 million, and teams that need such work done can often convince municipalities to foot some or all of the cost of this work, preserving the teams’ profits; this, however, hinges on the perceived threat of the team moving elsewhere. A team in Los Angeles leaves those teams without a major relocation option, giving the municipalities greater leverage over the teams (and, by extension, the league).

Rocksalt, in my opinion you always seem to blame the republicans for any and every thing that is wrong with the world, I bet you blame them when you get the sniffles or you bang your hand with a hammer by mistake. I bet you think the Democrats are saints and do no wrong; they do all they do for the people and not for powers sake. Why is it good to go to war when there is a democrat in office and not when the Republican in Office? Oh I bet it is because the Democrat wants to save the people and the Republicans wan the oil? My point is that there is Good and Bad in both parties, and all politicians care about the next election and not what is truly need by the people.
By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply
I don’t know about that Tim. Every time I hit my thumb with a hammer it hurts, and I have every reasonable expectation to continue to think that way. The Vikings’ curse shows no signs of lifting – they’ve used the same strategy for games and drafts for the past 2 decades. It’s only the people that have changed, not the mindset.
If they draft to fill the weaknesses this spring I might change my thinking, but I’ve resigned myself to hear the words “With their first pick, the MN Vikings select QB……” THEN, “With their second pick, WR……….” Maybe throw in a flashy RB and a couple more TEs after that.
I hope I’m wrong.

I think the Vikings have already changed their drafting philosophy. We all remember last year’s draft, right? Did anyone think that Ponder was the highest value player at pick #12? No. That was the biggest reach of the draft.
I really don’t think that the best player available mindset is the right way to go though either. We should be drafting for best player available at a position of need. This year, that doesn’t exclude many positions. QB, RB and DE are the only positions that we should completely ignore in the first few rounds. Probably TE too. But if that’s all we see as quality players at our pick, then there’s always the option of trading down and getting the BPA at a position of need a few picks later.
By Tim on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply
I kinda think WR Dwight Jones would be a good pick if he is still hanging in there in the third or fourth round.

I am back!!! LOL, had to take my little one to school. NorthwoodsVikesFan, so the Vikings are not worth a couple of pennies on that Big Mack. See Rocksalt even some of the Fan’s of the Vikings do not want to pay any taxes to keep the Vikings in Minnesota, and you want the pollinations to face the raff of the Voter when they raise the taxes on them to keep the Vikings in MN?
As for all this class envy, all I have to say is that I am for a fair tax system that taxes anyone who makes more than $50,000 dollars a year @ a rate of 10 to 20 % of their income, no matter where it comes from. There should be no deductions for any reason. In this case the more you earn the more you pay and everyone would all be paying in to the government @ the same rate and no one would be taken advantage of anyone else. 10% of 50,000 is $5,000 a year and 10% of 1,000,000 is $100,000 a year, that sounds fair to me.

By DRS on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply
GrandDaddyPurp, you have to fix what is wrong with the Team before you can win, that is the truth of the matter, so just getting the best player available in the draft is incorrect thinking. If the Best player available is a QB and you need an O-Lineman or a D-Lineman you are not fixing the problem and there for you will repeat the previous year and lose.
By DRS on Feb 16, 2012 | Reply
At 10% income tax on all incomes someone making 100,000 a year would be paying 20 times more in income tax to the government then someone earning $5,000 a year, that sounds fair to me, and I am a conservative.

With a 10% tax rate someone making $10,000,000 a year would be paying 2,000 times more than the person making $5,000 a year. So the rich would be paying their fair share. As it is now they are paying a large part of the Burdon with about 50% of the nation not paying any Federal income tax. My point is that with a 10 to 20 % tax rate with no deductions, everyone with a income of more than $50,000 dollars a year would be paying in their fair share to the Government.
Have a great day.

If you look at past Viking teams that made the NFC championship games and Superbowls, they had great OL and DL play!! The OL on this Viking team needs lots of work, but I also think the DL needs some upgrading as well!! Quinton Coples would be an interesting pick if Matt Kalil is gone to the Rams!! I would trade out of that spot, down to the ‘Skins pick (6th), and pick up an extra pick or two and still end up with a top ten player, say Claiborne,Coples or Reiff, making your 2nd round a great draft for your organization!!

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield is ahead of schedule in his efforts to return from a broken collarbone, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
Winfield reportedly thinks he could play now if he were needed. He is finishing off the final stages of his rehab routine at the Vikings’ team facility.
Winfield was ruled out for the season after breaking his collarbone in a Week 10 game against the Green Bay Packers.
The three-time Pro Bowl selection played in just five games in 2011.
The Vikings also plan to start contract negotiations with linebacker Erin Henderson at the NFL Scouting Combine. Henderson has said he wants to remain with the Vikings.
Henderson had a career year in 2011, posting highs in tackles (70), sacks (1.5) and games started (11)

However everytime I turn around there is a new Republican bill being submitted and usually passed that attacks the middle cla’ss and lower cla’ss …

It’s not the best situation we could hope for at the MLB position, but I think it’s the most realistically workable solution for now. OK, Im not that stupid ofcourse im not talking about drafting a QB if hes the best player available. This Draft is said to be rich in OLine a DLine Talent so what i was referring to is if the if the best player available is a lineman why the hek wouldnt we take him over a cornerback? a position we aparently so desperately need. It seemed like most of you questioned the pick of rudolph last year because tight end was not a need for us. I new it was the best pick because he was the best player available at the time. Now i bet most of you are happy we did draft him.
I am going to rephrase a little so none of you get confused. Draft the best player available FOR THIS TEAM. Not the player who best fills a need. Filling a need doesnt always walk hand in hand with talent and ability on the field. Having had our coaching staff in the senior bowl, look for this team to target alot of those player that played in the game.
As for Ced Grif. He had one bad year. That was the first season after that serious injury he had in the championship game. What do all the doctors say? He will not return back to his normal speed until the 2nd year after the injury. So like I have said in the past. Next year will be his chance to prove he is back to his old self. But lets take a step back and talk about that 09 season. Ced was having his best year of his career that season and in that game against the saints he showed up and played his best. Drew Brees was 17-31 for 197 yards ad 3 TDs. And may i remind you our DLine was applying rarely any pressre that whole game. Ced Griffin was having the best game ive ever seen him play in the BIGGEST game of his career. What more can you ask of the guy? He gave his body for this team and that resulted in a very serious injury and most of you want to praise chris cook? Talk about LOYALTY. Yes those stats are right our defense held the great Drew Brees to under 200 yards. Not even the 49ers Great D could hold him under 400.
Ced Griffen is a true Viking shame on those who want him cut and call themselves fans of this team. By the way most of you are talking about him, it would seem you only started being fans just this past season which I know is not true.

I’m one of the few in the middle of the idea. I’m not passing final judgment on him before the courts do. I know that CB is a big problem for us right now, so if we can get Cook’s talent back and get him straightened out, I want to give him a second chance. But right now, he’s not a part of this team. Griffin is. So I agree with you that we need to give him the chance to show if he can fully recover from that brutal injury.

Parody- I wasn’t talking about supporting Cook as much as i was talking about people not supporting Griffin. I am a big fan of Cooks ability on the field. Its just for some of these fans to praise somebody who has done more harm than good to this team over someone who has actually showed up, worked hard, gave his body for this team and has bled purple and gold is just ridiculous.
Northwoods- Did having Rudolph better us this year? Cant say yes. Its not up to him whether he plays or not. Try this question, Did obtaining Rudolph solidify a position for years to come for us that is becoming the premiere position on offense in the league? I believe so. So your saying we shouldn’t have drafted him? Which would probably have resulted in us drafting a bust. Speilman made it clear when asked whether he would pursue Randy Moss. He wants this team to get young. I think that is the right mindset to have. Oh and we did sign a LT last year just not to our liking. This is the year we solidify that position as well tho

If we beat the saints in 09 its not the DLine that gets the credit, nor is it the offense. It would have been Griffin and Winfield that got the credit they played amazing. The RBs of the saints had a better receiving game than their WRs thats on our LBs for that. Drew Brees only had 197 yards. THIS IS DREW BREES WE ARE TALKING ABOUT Spence. Ced has produced. I agree with Spencer, the bottom line is production and for whatever reason the entire DBF has not got it done. Winfield has got to move to safety or go and as far as the other DB.s are concerned the coaches know what kind of talent they have and they know what talent they need to win in this leauge. I heard it said many times during the season that the Vikings just didn’t have the talent at the DB and S positions, This is on the coaching staff and front office, if u have the talent develope it, if you don’t cut the players and replace them with more talented players. It has been proven over and over again that the team that don’t get to attached to vets and let them go when they don’t get it done are more successful.

Rocksalt, and Shawn, All I posted was that 10% of $10,000,000 is more than 10% of $5,000 and that a flat tax would be a fairer tax and simpler tax then what we have now. This entire BS you two are spewing is c-r-a-p. I did not advocate any of it; you two are so blinded by your liberal religion that you cannot even read a simple posting. Like you asked me once Shawn, copy and post where I attacked the middle class or the unions in my last few postings, as for you Rocksalt I never once posted that what you and Shawn have posted was an invalid ideal and that you or Shawn do not have some good arguments, what I posted was that you did not want to debate, all you want to do is shout down anyone who disagrees with you. Rocksalt I have not advocated for anyone to have a lower tax rate than anyone else. Once more all I have posted was that a flat rate tax for anyone making any income above $50,000 dollars a year, or if that is too low of a number for you then how about anyone who is earning $150,000 a year or more, pay a flat tax of 10 to 20 % and do away with all the deductions and loop holes. I do respect that you two have strong feelings about what you think are injustices done by some of the people in the U.S.A, but trying to cut and shout down them who disagree with you is just wrong in a debate. You would be surprise to know that I to believe that this country has wronged some of the people, (and that is not the rich I am talking about), and that we all should do better. The past is the past so do not dwell on it and try to do better the next time; that is what I believe in as well as freedom and liberty for all.

BTW Rocksalt I make less than $30,000 a year, and I have a family of 3. How about you?
I just want the tax rates to be fair for everyone, maybe someday my ship may come in and I would want to pay a fare rate.
Have great night everyone, and God bless you all, that includes you Rocksalt and Shawn my friends.

@the DRS,
When I think about the Vikings 2011 season I do think of Ponder running for his life, and “Running Back Sacks.” (I do mean “Running Back.” You know, when the RB gets caught for a 4 yard loss behind the offensive line. That is almost always the fault of the OL, and should NEVER happen.)
But, even more I think of how easy it was for any team to whip 20 yard completions against our team.
The defensive backfield is HORRIBLE!
