Chris Doleman Answers Fan-Submitted Questions From Facebook and Twitter

Posted by Ryan Cardinal on February 9, 2012 – 5:01 pm

In this post, Ann Carroll recaps the questions fan submitted for newly named Pro Football Hall of Famer Chris Doleman via Facebook and Twitter for a video that you can watch by clicking here.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Chris Doleman came into town from Atlanta Thursday afternoon to spend time with the Twin Cities media  here at Winter Park.  His first stop, the Sports Authorities studios here at the team facility.   We asked fans via Facebook and Twiter to send us questions for Doleman. We then  selected a handful of them for the Hall of Famer. Here are those questions with Doleman’s answers

Twitter Questions

@mnviksfan4life:   What was going through your head when they say you would be in the 2012 Class of the Hall of Fame?

Doleman:   I was really  numb, later on that day I got a sense of what was happening. You get a call from the hall when they announce your name to make sure you know that you are in. You go down to the hotel and they start the process. It’s a big process.

@chappynewcanaan :   Is Joey Browner a Hall of Famer?

Doleman:   I don’t know, I don’t pick. I believe Joey Browner…well, he is definitely the greatest Safety I have ever played with and that includes Ronnie Lott in Probowls and Dennis Smith out of Denver.  Joey is definitely one of those premier guys.  I would love to see him in the Ring of Honor  along with Henry Thomas and some of the  other guys I played with because they are great players

@jgarrettbaker  What was your favorite move to rush the QB?

Doleman:  My favorite most was probably a post move where that I just plant my left arm in the offensive lineman’s chest. Soon as he reaches out to balance, I would knock down his outside arm and take the corner. It worked a lot

Facebook Questions:

Jacob Schneider:   What is the best defensive end in the league today?

Doleman:       I would say Jared, Mario Williams, and Peppers in Chicago

Sahib Dambam-   Who was the toughest QB you ever sacked?

Doleman: John Elway, toughest. John is a fighter, he is a big guy, he can take a hit.  By far, John Elway

Chrisitian K:  What did you think about Jared Allen breaking your Vikings sack record?

Doleman:  You want your team to win. You want Jared to be successful.  Anything I can do to   help Jared or anyone else on the Vikings be successful I am going to do it.  Records are made to be broken .  He still has the Ring of Honor and he still has the Hall of Fame that he has to accomplish

Jeff Cagle: What was your intial reaction when Cris Carter was not included in this years Hall of Fame class?

Doleman:  I felt sorry.  I felt sorry for Cris. I felt sorry for all the guys.  These writers and selectors  spend a lot of time, I hear 7hours and 37 min picking 5 guys. So I think they got it right.  I would have said they got it wrong if they didn’t pick me you know that right??  They do things are their own pace, they have their plan.

Does Carter belong in the Hall of Fame? He defntiely belongs in the Hall of Fame. They are in the same postion they are in next year. Who is going to go in? Cris, Andre? Cris might be out two more years.  Cris went to finals list right away, but now he has been sitting there. But I do know anybody that has been on the finalist list has a 97% chance of getting into the hall. That’s a stat that they tell you. I don’t think he is in that 3%.   I think it is going to happen, he has to just be patient.  Hate to say that but what else can  you do?

Mike Schmitz  What Vikings team that you played on do you feel was the best or had the best chance to win the Super bowl

Doleman:   1989 team, no question

Jeff Go Vikings Vine   Who was your inspiration as a young athlete and why?

Doleman: Hollywood Henderson, the orginial #56

Vinny Hagen: What QB did you love sacking the most?

Doleman: Any QB that played for Green Bay!!

Thanks for all the questions fans!  If you see your name or your twitter handle, you are the winner of a Chris Doleman autographed Game Day Program from his Ring of Honor Induction!  Send your name and address to @vikingsweekly via Twitter  or to my facebook page : http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ann-Carroll/68990992177?ref=tn_tnmn

Sonja will now be selling authentic replica #56 Dolberman jerseys for a limited time. But if you order in the next 20 minutes ( because we can’t do this all day ), she will pawprint them for you at no extra charge.

Duluth is now yet another city to be a possible site for the new Minnesota Vikings stadium.

In a letter to Gov. Mark Dayton Thursday, Sen. Roger Reinert, DFL-Duluth, proposed the stadium to be constructed southwest of downtown Duluth, on 500 acres formally occupied by the U.S. Steel/Atlas Cement work site.

  3. By DRS on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

NovaScotiaVike What do you think of Duluth as a site for the new stadium?

  4. By NovaScotiaVike on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

Well, technically I guess it’s closer to me. But it’s also closer to Wisconsin, which means that the smell might drift into the stadium.

  5. By NovaScotiaVike on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

Seriously DRS, as long as it’s in Minnesota, I don’t care. I have to fly there anyway.

Same here, I would like to be anywhere in Minnesota, anywhere but Minneapolis or Saint Paul.

Another factor that could potentially boost the Duluth site is the Northern Lights Express, Reinert said. The NLX is three months away from completing an environmental a-s-s-e-s-s-m-e-n-t, after which primary stages of engineering may begin. The 155-mile track is expected to be operational in 2015

So sending a thoughtful card is the least we could do for Our Hero.

I think a stadium in Duluth high on the hill overlooking Lake Superior would be awesome– and no roof.

  19. By Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

But would it sell out? Duluth metro is a tenth the size population wise of Minneapolis- St. Paul– and a significant part of the Duluth metro is in Wisconsin– other than the GB games, will they buy tickets? On the other hand, I think a lot of people would love a week-end trip to Duluth, especially in the fall– go up Friday or Saturday, then leave after the game — or stay overnight Sunday.

I went to the Chris Doleman football camp when I was between my junior and senior year of high school. I used my money to get there. I went to Doleman seems like about 5 times to get an autograph. He asked me the second or third day How many autographs Id gotten and I was like I know but this one is for my uncle. He was a nice guy.

I also met Scott Studwell, Randall Mcdaniel, and a couple other less memorable guys. Less memorable because I dont remember. I played OL so I didnt hang with other positions. Randall McDaniel was my guy.

I really like the Duluth idea– I researched it and found a new article with a blogger who said– think of 50,000 fans in 30,000 cars going up to Duluth each weekend– does sound a bit ridiculous. I don’t think it would ever happen– no political clout.

  52. By Spencer on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

Shawn, where did you go? Can we now just put it to rest…Cedric Griffin is terrible. Cook is the better Cornerback by a mile. You are literally the only person who thinks otherwise. Admit your faults so we can move on.

  53. By Shawn on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

Well Spence I guess your right … he should retire and by the time hes out of prison he will be in the hall of fame. The greatest corner of all time. If only Jared Allen had 1/2 the talent of Chri Cook … WOW could you imagine AP being on Cooks level.

  54. By Shawn on Feb 9, 2012 | Reply

In the American Jokestice system if you have enough money you can kill your ex wife and her new friend …. in our system there is a value for everything. Cook should have enough to get out of this one. I just dont think he’s smart enough to learn from it. He pulled a gun on a neighbor then 6 months later he tries to choke his gf out … the progression doesnt look good

That defensive line that Chris Doleman played on, was one of the best in Vikings history, only second to the Purple People Eaters!! With the likes of Chris Doleman, Henry Thomas and one of my personel favorites, Keith Millard, who, had he not got hurt, may have made it to the HOF!! Love that team, with the likes of Joey Browner and Anthony Carter!! They made it to an NFC championship game, only to lose to the ‘Skins and we had Wade Wilson as our QB!!!

  131. By 61vikings on Feb 10, 2012 | Reply

The 1989 team that Chris Doleman talks about in his Q&A that he said should have won the Superbowl:
    8 All-pros-Chris Doleman,Keith Millard,Joey Browner,Carl Lee,Anthony Carter,Steve Jordan,Gary Zimmerman and Randall McDaniel!! Doleman,Zimmerman and McDaniel in the HOF!!
Starting OL that year:LT-Zimmerman-LG-McDaniel-C-Lowdermilk-RG-Kalis-RT-Irwin-all built from the draft by the Vikings except Zimmerman and he was picked in the supplemental draft!!
Starting DL that year-LDE-Noga-LDT-Thomas-RDT-Millard-RDE-Doleman-all built through the draft in the 1st and 3rd round!! As the starting DL,they had 60 sacks and as a team, they had a total of 68 sacks,14 interceptions and 15 fumble recoveries!!
Every starter on defense drafted by the Vikings except Mike Merriweather, free agent,Steelers!! Only 4 starters not drated by the Vikes-Merriweather,A.Carter,G.Zimmerman and Herschel Walker!!
He’s right this team should have won a Superbowl, but if memory serves me right, the ‘Niners kicked our ass everytime we played them in the playoffs, except 1987,when we pulled off the huge upset!!!
Draft OL and DL and DB’s-we need another Joey Browner here!!
By the way-Defensive backs coach that year-Pete Carroll!!
Every OL and DL picked in the 1st-3rd round except RG Todd Kalis-4th round!!

Based on the draft value chart, here are some realistic trades the Vikings could expect if they traded down and stayed inside the top 10:

–Trading down with the Redskins could net the Vikings the No. 6 pick (1,600), the 38th pick (520) and a fourth-round pick (92 points).

–Trading down just one spot with the Browns could net the Vikings the No. 4 pick (1,800) as well as picks in the third (250), fourth (100) and fifth (40) rounds.

–Trading down with the Dolphins could realistically net the Dolphins’ first-round pick — either eighth overall (1,400) or ninth overall (1,350) — as well as picks in the second (about 500), third (about 230), fifth (about 38) and sixth (about 24) rounds. The Dolphins also could opt to trade a higher pick next season rather than give up four picks in the second through sixth rounds

The Vikings have signed offensive lineman Pat Brown to a one-year contract extension. Brown was set to become an exclusive rights free agent next month. But that designation basically means that, due to Brown’s two-year tenure in the NFL, the Vikings would have been the only team in the league able to sign him for 2012. Which they have now done.

Brown saw limited action last season, playing mostly on special teams. He was originally undrafted out of Central Florida in 2009.

The Vikings now have 17 players due to become free agents when the market opens on the afternoon of March 13. The most notable players on that list are linebackers E.J. Henderson and Erin Henderson, tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, safeties Husain Abdullah and Tyrell Johnson and receiver Devin Aromashodu.

Running back Lorenzo Booker and linebacker Kenny Onatulu are both set to become restricted free agents, which will give the Vikings an opportunity to match offers that come from other teams.

  135. By 61vikings on Feb 10, 2012 | Reply

Neither one of them (Cook or Griffen) would start on any other team, that shows you how depleted we are at DB!! Look for Cook to spend time in prison, then be released and Griffen to be released in the offseason!!

  136. By Viking-ology on Feb 10, 2012 | Reply

I like Shiancoe, but I don’t think the Vikes will resign him.

  137. By Viking-ology on Feb 10, 2012 | Reply

EJ Henderson had a down year, so I doubt he will be back. Erin is not as good as his brother is but they may hang on to him.

I checked out those Defensive grades – thanks Spencer. From the looks of things our DT’s are not good at all – in turn affecting the play of the Linebackers and Defensive Backs. Strengthen our DLine – LB – Safety in that order and our Defense will be better. Pick up a CB in FA – looks like we will be at least a man down there.

Vikings Stadium Update: Another Day, Another Potential Site, This One In Duluth

Feb 10 2:43p by James Brady

    Read More: Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are no closer today than they were several months ago in regards to a new football stadium. We’ve had multiple stadium proposals, with seemingly viable options (that are preferred by the Vikings) being shot down in favor of a stadium in Minneapolis, which is what Governor Mark Dayton prefers. Unfortunately, Minneapolis doesn’t have the funds to do all that would be required to build at most of the potential sites at and around the Metrodome

Or is it just me????

    @SPENCER, Great Video man!!!

As much as Iike Peyton Manning, he has had success mostly because of the people around him.

He has TIME…even your highlight video makes this obvious.

He can STEP INTO HIS THROWS. (note to reader: Viking QBs cannot do that!!!)

His receivers are not only open, they are WIDE OPEN.

Peyton Manning is a great QB, so was Archie Manning. Yet Archie Manning rarely won in the NFL. WHY?

FOOTBALL IS A GREAT TEAM GAME.

    We must must must must…

…continue to push Defensive Backs and Offensive Linemen on Spielman.

The reason? The media will continue to hype Wide Receivers, QBs, Running Backs on offense, and Sack Makers on defense.

Count on it. Know that it has been happening more, and more every year.

The NFL Pro Bowl has been a WWF-type deal for nearly a decade now.

There are a lot of fake things in our society.

The QB domination nation is one of them.

We do not need Peyton Manning!!!

GDP still not likely to happen. NE has two picks ahead of us plus three other teams may want Barron in that area of the draft. Spielman has been trying for 5 years to land an elite corner in rounds 2,3. We don’t have the luxury to pick a safety that early_unless we land the CB in free agency first!

“Stationing the Vikings in Duluth is economically advantageous and will help further supplant the message that the Vikings represent all of Minnesota and are not exclusive to the metropolitan areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul,” Reinert said.

    RAMSEY COUNTY’S PLAN

User fees at a new Vikings stadium and surrounding 170 acres of private development would raise the money to cover its share. Revenue would rise 2 percent per year from $16.3 million in 2016 to $25.5 million in 2045. Based on 2016 estimates:

    – Parking revenue on 19,000 spots would bring in $5.4 million

    – Parking lot naming rights, $2 million

    – 3 percent admission surcharge, $1.62 million

    – Hospitality taxes at the stadium site would mirror rates charged at the Metrodome and in Minneapolis. No dollar figure given.

    Source: Ramsey County

    WHAT IT WILL COST

$1.1 billion: Total costs for a new Minnesota Vikings stadium in Arden Hills

    $425 million: Team contribution

$350 million: State contribution, likely through electronic pulltabs

$300 million: Ramsey County contribution through user fees

    $38 million: Other sources

    Source: Ramsey County

How many years are they going to talk before the Vikings give up and move? How many ideals are they going to go through? All the while the Vikings will have to play in the dome or move. Minnesota you have not learned a thing, do you remember what happened to the Lakers, the North Stars? Come on, get the bill done, and start building the new stadium!

Doleman is fourth on the NFL’s career list with 150 1/2 sacks. His 21 sacks in 1989 stood as the Vikings single-season record until this season when Jared Allen broke it.

To me it sounds like Jared Allen is another Doleman. Now we need to get more players to complement Jared Allen’s abilities during this year’s draft and FA.

Hartman writes that the new stadium would be “modeled after” Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, a domed facility which has a retractable roof. Before it can be built, however, Hartman says that the Minneapolis City Council will have to cooperate.

With no other viable proposals currently on the table, lack of cooperation from the City Council could be the catalyst for relocation.

Governor Mark Dayton puts the chances of the project at 50-50, largely due to the fact that it’s an election year. He’s hopeful that, if it doesn’t happen in 2012, it’ll happen in 2013.

Hopefully, the Vikings will still be around by then.

Free agency doesn’t start until March 13, but the Minnesota Vikings might have a chance to address one of their most glaring needs before then.

Stanford Routt’s agent told ESPNDallas.com the Vikings are one of four teams that have shown interest in the veteran cornerback, who was released by the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.

Reinert submitted the proposal to DFL Gov. Mark Dayton, who has been leading the push to build the Vikings a new stadium in the Twin Cities. Vikings owners and state leaders have yet to find a workable site and a way to pay for it.

Dayton and legislative stadium backers want a vote this session, but so far they have not introduced a stadium bill for legislators to consider

The Duluth proposal is highly unlikely to happen — it is a great concept and with the new railroad I am sure many Twin Citians would make a week-end getaway out of it. It would be nice for the economy in that area, but the cities do rule the state– just a fact–
