Peterson Thanks Fans And Discusses Rehab Process

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 13, 2012 – 4:21 pm

Don’t miss next Tuesday’s Wobcast, which features Adrian Peterson, plus 2012 NFL Draft and Pro Bowl talk. You can find all Wobcasts and subscribe to via iTunes by clicking here.

It’s been two weeks since Adrian Peterson underwent successful surgery to repair his knee, and already the NFL’s best RB is offering reason to be encouraged and optimistic at his chances of returning to form.

Peterson, sporting a Jim Kleinsasser-like beard that any true Minnesotan would appreciate, was joined by Vikings Certified Heat Athletic Trainer Eric Sugarman in meeting with reporters inside the Winter Park field house on Friday to provide an update on his knee and the rehab process. You can watch the press conference in its entirety by clicking here.

Right off the bat, Peterson displayed exactly why he’s a fan-favorite and one of the NFL’s best superstars.

“I want to say thanks to the fans for the outpour of support that I’ve been receiving,” Peterson said. “Fan mail, some tweets, just so many different sources. And I just wanted to tell you guys that I really appreciate it and I’m working hard to get back as soon as possible.”

Peterson went on to explain that he was able to accept the knee injury “pretty quickly” and move on to focusing on overcoming the next challenge – the rehab process.

“The beginning was tough, just mentally, accepting it (the injury) for what it was,” Peterson explained. “Then sitting on it for a week before having the surgery, I had time to ask myself ‘Why this? Why that?’ But ultimately, I was able to look at it for what it was, put that behind me and get my mind right for this challenge that’s ahead of me.”

Sugarman called last three days of Peterson’s rehab process “awesome,” saying Peterson has been riding a stationary bike and that he’s accomplished every task expected of him to this point in the rehab.

The natural concern when a player, especially a RB, suffers a serious knee injury is whether that player will ever regain his form. But is Peterson concerned?

“Not at all. I’ve not thought about that once. I’ve been through a lot in my life, and I call that to a higher power and I put my faith in Him. I know that anything I put my mind to, I’m going to be able to accomplish. I feel like I’m going to come back better than before. I know people might laugh at that or think otherwise. But you know what? It doesn’t matter what they think or how they feel about it. Only thing that matters is how I feel about it and what I believe. And I’ve been able to go through the sacrifices and whatever it takes to get to that, and I’ve already started that.”

Friday’s press conference wasn’t about announcing any good or bad news. It wasn’t about showing off the fact that Peterson is no longer leaning on crutches or that he has near full range of motion back. But listening to Peterson speak and watching him project confidence and optimism about his recovery is a great sign for Vikings fans, and reason enough to anticipate a full recovery.

Ponder cant run an offense when he doesnt have time to run a play he only has time to run. And yes Webb can run better than Ponder.

The Final 11 Games when the Secondary was down to 5 Guys on I.R=31.2 points given up per game.

Peterson is the best RB in the league

Jared Allen is the best DLmen in the league

Percy Harvin is an up and coming pro bowl receiver

Chris Cook is a pu’nk and I hope hes cut

    The secondary is awfull

  27. By Shawn on Jan 13, 2012 | Reply

TRD … Morris Claiborne would be a great pick. We would finally have a young CB that wants to play football instead of being a thug. Our secondary really needs some talent and Morris Claiborne would be my second choice behind Matt Kalil

  28. By Spence on Jan 13, 2012 | Reply

The secondary has been suspect in the past. But this year when they were healthy they werent THAT bad. Draft o-line, o-line, and so more linemen. I never said Clairborne wouldnt be a good fit, but we have more pressing needs..

  29. By TheRealDon on Jan 13, 2012 | Reply

No Spence Chris Cook was the only player I seen that did anything worth talking about.

  30. By Spence on Jan 13, 2012 | Reply

As a collective whole they were not horrible. The only person who Pathetic was Cedric Griffin. I’ll never understand why he was on Megatron in OT against the lions week 3. Cook had the best game of his life against Megatron yet Cedric was matched up against him. This coaching staff is a joke!

Sanford and Abdullah would be solid back ups

Ced Griffin is a warrior to come back from back 2 back blown knees

Winfield id getting old an frail

Chris Cook would rather live the thug life than a football life

Sherels, Burton, Asher Allen , and Sapp would be solid depth but not starters. Even though all four were better Minnesota Vikings than Chris “I got other things to do ” Cook

Unfortunately, this is how I see this pan out. Given the Vikes current ‘in limbo’ situation with the stadium issue, the fact that they were 3-13 with a coaching staff in disarray, I think the Vikes will sign Castillo (another Philly leftover) as D coordinator…flash foward to this time next year…Vikings clean house and start a new order with Bill Cowher as new HC of the Vikings as they await the building of their new stadium.

You’re a moron. 3 of those were given up by Cook. And 2 was when he was in Zone. Against Bowe he only allowed 2. Against Fitz he only allowed 2.

How ’bout this scenario- since no one is willing to come to Mimnny to be D-coordinator, Speilman asks Bud Grant to coach the Vikings in 2012 allowing Frazier to assume D-coor. position. Singletary holds title of LB coach only and Pagac can take Dunbar’s place. Patchwork accomplished!

  128. By TITUS THE GREAT PREDICTOR on Jan 13, 2012 | Reply

I really struggled with that one– my gut says Saints, but I think the Saints may have trouble outside of their dome– if the niners defense shows up and the niners can run the ball well– which has happened a lot, then they can keep Brees from torching them. Saints have an edge in coaching and quarterback. But not an edge on the location, field surface, crowd, and they are playing a very good team– a team that kept Pitt to 3 points-

  129. By Swedish Viking on Jan 13, 2012 | Reply

5-3 away from home isn’t to bad. Pittsburgh is aging and had alot of injuries this year. I personally don’t think the Broncos have a chance, but stranger things have happened.

I’m pretty sure we’ll have two compensatory picks at the end of the 4th-round, so some of the positions you are projecting for can be moved up a couple of spots and you can draft better players with them. I would prefer to see a guard and LB with the compensatory picks. Guys good enough to become starters by 2013 if they get the right coaching and work ethic.

I think Dwight Jones would be a more ideal pick at that point. He has the height and speed that we’re looking for, and he’s projected to go much earlier than White. Maybe you’re familiar with what White can add to the team though?

One of the things that has always impressed me with Adrian is his character. “Sir”, “Ma’am”, “Please”, “Thank you”. In a society where manners and good character are all but extict, and in a position where it would be very easy for him to forget them, he continues to impress me. In the NFL, I hold him accountable to his numbers. In life, I only hold him accountable to his character. His is quite an example.

Peterson will do fine, he just has to be “quiet” for some time.

    Offtopic:

The first 4 rounds should be addressed with either OL, CB and Safety (Maybe a great run-stuffing DT or a fast LB as well).

This year year Everson showed that he can translate his speed, quickness and coverage skills to the pro leauge. After my opinion he should be as a blitzing LB or in coverage. As a DE he is simply too fast. But I have to admit that he improved at the DE position. I guess we will see him as a LB next season.

Griffin is almost a done viking. I can’t tell if his injuries bother him that much that he stops trying to tackle the guy he is supposed to tackle 20 yards before the endzone… And for the guys hating on Sanford. He at least tried to stop the recievers of the opposing team. My conclusion is that Sanford will stay, but either Griffin and Johnson will be cut this season.

Chris Cook probably won’t be a Viking, and might not even be in the

Brandon Burton is a project, and could be good. Marcus Sherels SHOULD be allowed to challenge here.

So we MUST draft, trade, or purchase two GOOD defensive backs.

To tell you the truth, Cedric Griffen will be either be let go or get traded before week 1. Cedric Griffen career is over even though he is from Texas like you all think high of him because of the school he went to. He can’t keep up with any other good WRs that the NFL has had for him. Unfortunately I know Chris Cook got in trouble with laws but you have to remember what Ray Lewis, Stallworth has done with the laws before as in Manslughter charges. They both has helped the team becoming contender in playoffs. Now just because Chris Cook has problem with his g/f, what makes you think hes as bad as these two felons? Chris Cook is going to get a mismandors and I dont see how you wannabes vikings fan want to get rid of him when he is 10 times better than Pac Man. You guys are a fool, and dont have a clues of what you guys are talking about! Now for draft, to the real Vikings fans that I am speaking to, We need to find the best pick to take over Charlie the LT, and another pick to take over Anthony Herrera, RG. Chris Cook is a pretty good Center so I wouldnt complain along with Fusco. The rest will be the Defense such as DB,SS,FS. Our linebackers is in good shape along with our defense line. This will cure the problems for the vikings. Have a good speedy recovery to AP. Wish him well. Skol Vikings~

  250. By Frederick Jones on Jan 14, 2012 | Reply

    @TheRealDon,

Thank you for giving me the reasoning behind the switch to a 3-4 defense.

That’s exactly what they said in the 1970’s and the Vikings have pretty much stayed with the 4-3 ever since.

I am for anything that puts pressure on the QB. It makes the Tom Brady’s look like the Brady Bunch, and the Aaron Rodgers look like Mr. Rodgers and the Neighborhood. Putting pressure on the QB is #1 for defensing the P a s s!!!

Even if Everson Griffen can play LB, we would need more LBs. Right now I still believe that the OLs and DBs must be fixed first. You cannot have a good 3-4 with our d-backs. In fact you couldn’t run a 3-8-4 with our d-backs…lol

Your point is very valid, however.

Who has made the Viking organization look bad? Why is Chris Cook getting praise from Spence and Larson ? All he has done is hurt the team …

  253. By TITUS THE GREAT PREDICTOR on Jan 14, 2012 | Reply

Well Shawn, they probably believe you should get paid as a one percenter because he is a great role model for the children. Seriously, all these football players are in the one percent club– any salary over the 320K range is in that club. As long as he performs on the field, who cares about character? Hm?

Wow you guys is a joke. You obviously dont watch the games but to busy glueing your eyes on the posts and wanted attention. You need to learn to quit attacking people’s opinoins and accept their opinions whether they are true or not. We are the vikings fans, not judging based on their langauges, opinoins, and english. No wonder Vikings never win because they judge based on their characters and not their talents and skills. Well heres the deal, I am hoping the politican send the vikings to LA so you guys can sit on the couch and think about how much it has hurt you for not having a professional team and live with it, because the fact is Vikings doesn’t deserve a fans like you guys for curising people’s opinions. You guys attacking people’s opinions is much worse than having Chris Cook choking his wife. Same conclusion just different laws. Go ahead and attack these people and if that makes you feel good just like chris does to his g/f, so be it.

Shawn, I was, of course, being sarcastic. I believe character matters in sports, in politics, in whatever. The stooopidest thing I have ever heard is when people vote and say they do not care about a person’s character. That is the core of that person. I certainly am all for second chances– God knows we all need them. But for the time being, until Cook has been mended, let’s leave him off the team.

BTW Ced Griffen Had one bad season after back to back knee surgeries … and was a solid Minnesota Viking on and off the field for 3 straight seasons is trash to you.

To people like Spence and Larson … attempted murder is forgivable and deseving of a second chance but to get injured and work hard to make it back is unforgivable and deserving of a firing. No. Cedric Griffen used to be great until the major surgeries he had it is almost likely his career is over. I’ve been in the games and I’ve watched him played. I watched how he chased the WR like a turtle. He missed alot of coverages, and he can’t read zones anymore. He is to busy worrying about his knees and trying to limit himself in the field and recive an easy paychecks. He has been benched several times last year. Chris Cook wants to play but he can’t due to his suspensions. I am not a thug, I am white and I am a former QB in Faribo. Critizing people a thug, or judging people will gets you. I do believe in karmas and I wouldn’t mess with it. You need to watch your mouth and keep your fingers off the keyboard. You obviously dont know what you are talking about. PERIOD.

Moss has done lol more than you know and than I know. Why do you think alot of teams dont want him? Is it just because of his lack of playing? Is it really because of his mouth? Or was it because of everything he has done outsiders has bothered the team and the owners? Moss and Cook is pretty much almost the same except the gun part that you’ve stated. I dont think that is what happened. Cook and his g/f got in a fight and that was Demostic Assault and it can reduce to Misamandor. That a cheap shot unlike all women is a BYTCH anyway. He will learn from his mistakes and he will move on unlike Pac Man, he never learns because Cowboys does not have the guts to suspend him like we cant to Moss because of the money. Yeah its money. Chris Cook happen to be cheap and we could punish him right away before he becomes expensive to suspend him. Chris Cook is worth a look for a CB. Cedric Griffen has to go, and I bet you no teams wants him anyway because he sucks.

Sandiamond, to be honest, the Saints have me concerned– I went back and forth on that pick,.

Giants have a real good shot. They are use to the outdoor, cold conditions. They are seasoned in the playoffs. They are on a roll. They have one of the better QB’s. And their defense, when in sync, can be ferocious. Plus, they have the confidence of knowing they nearly beat the Pack a few weeks ago.

Let me help pick your brains Shawn. Ray Lewis- Best MLB in NFL brought his team to Superbowl. He was charged for manslaugter and that is a Class B Felony. Stallworth, Was the best WR for England, he also helped the team to win Superbowl with Tom Brady. He was charged for manslaugter and again that is a felony. They both are criminals and they are still the best players in NFL. Just beacuse your opinions of criminals and how you want to get rid of them is not going to help your team to win Superbowl. The reason Cook is suspeneded and Lewis, Stallworth is not because Cook is cheap. He makes 556k a year. At the time Lewis and stallworth they make millions. Their teams cant suspended them and they allowed them to play. While they did allowed them to play, they have become a superstars. So why dont we allowed Chris Cook play and have a superstar CB than having a sucker CB name Cedric Griffin from TEXAS, whoopo a do if hes from Texas he still sucks.

It is a fact. Moss is worst than Cook for behaviors and attitdudes. It is Cook first offense for the Vikings while Moss gave us tons of em. We just couldn’t suspsended Moss because we couldn’t afford to. He is worth 100 millions while Cook is worth 556k. Of course we will suspended him, for one, we can afford it, for 2, discipline him now than sorry. Since we couldn’t disclipine Moss, we regretted it.

For the record, Larson said this… ” You guys attacking people’s opinions is much worse than having Chris Cook choking his wife.” ……Now,correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t one of the ideals that you (and Canadians) find so worthy to protect, that we are constantly speaking of……The Freedom Of Speech, Oh yeah, they call it the first Amendment, something that both Canadians and Americans have fought and died for. Apparently the Larson Family feels that (And I paraphrase) ” Freedom of speech is much worse than having Chris Cook choking his girlfriend” …..I am ecstatic that I don’t live next door to “TheLarsonFamily”, but somebody probably has to.

Maybe some of you wont end up like Chris Cook, maybe some of you might end up worse than Chris Cook. Its all depends on the situation where you comes from. If it happens to me who knows what i’ve done to my wife. Theres bunch of people who couldn’t handle the anger when it occured to them. It happens, life goes on. For the Team of the Vikings, he is very important player for the Vikings. But the good news is that the Vikings punished him for his mistakes and he is learning his lesson from it. So be grateful for that he is being punished and give him another chance. If it happens again then we can talk about how he needs to get the f out of the team. Right now, its his only 1 mistake he has made so get over it.

So just stop responding to Larson. Leave the garbage empty, and maybe the rodent will go find someone else to annoy.

  411. By Parody on Jan 14, 2012 | Reply

Sandia – Who would be your DT selection? I went with Ta’amu because it looks like he’d be the best choice available in the second round to fill our need at DT. We have at least a couple guys on the team who can be pass rushing DTs, but we need one who can be the big blocker-demanding, run stuffing man in the middle, like Pat was when he was here. Ta’amu has the size to do that. Ayodele was signed in free agency last year to fill that void, but he couldn’t produce, so I’d like to see us get someone this year who can take over that role for a good 5+ years.

  412. By Parody on Jan 14, 2012 | Reply

Swedish Viking – I think the Saints are going to start cleaning themselves up and take this game back. They’ve already given up 5-turnovers, but are only down by 6-points. If they can scrèw their heads on straight in this second half, they’ll come away with the win.

Any time I watched Mallett, he was making stupid decisions, throwing interceptions in big games. I didn’t want to have to put up with him as a Viking. I’m happy we didn’t take him. But Ponder doesn’t appear to be much better of an option. He’s just got a better character to him.

  527. By Spence on Jan 14, 2012 | Reply

Yea Parody, he did have a habit of that. But people also said Jake Locker had bad accuracy. But once he came in the NFL, hes actually proving to be an accurate passer in this league.

  530. By Parody on Jan 14, 2012 | Reply

It doesn’t look like Locker has done much. He’s averaged under 7-attempts per game in the 5-games he’s participated in. That tells me that he’s been playing clean-up against the less than spectacular opponents. Jackson’s ’09 stats were just as impressive, under the same conditions.

But I still expect more of Locker. He was projected to be the first pick had he declared for the ’09 draft, but his stock fell a bit after a poor season the subsequent year. He still went in the top-ten. So he ought to turn into a good QB.

Mallett, on the other hand, had issues that caused him to drop into the 3rd round. I’m not saying he can’t overcome them, but I think it is less likely.

Shawn – I would just think that Bellicheck would want to pass some film around the league with Mallett running his offense. You gotta figure that Brady is still good for another 5-years or so, making Mallett a good trade option if he can show that he has the first-round quality that the draft specialists were talking about.

Bellicheck has made a living from convincing other teams that his backups can be their starters. If he was afraid to try to do that with Mallett today, I can only assume it’s because Mallett isn’t living up to expectations.
