Vikings Lease At Metrodome Expires Today

Posted by Mike Wobschall on January 1, 2012 – 11:18 am

Today is the last game of Jim Kleinsasser’s career, but it’s also the last game under the Vikings lease at the Metrodome. That means that after today, the Vikings are essentially stadium free agents, which adds even more importance to an already super-important stadium issue in Minnesota.

Vikings Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development Lester Bagley took several moments before kickoff of today’s game to discuss the current state of affairs with members of the local media.

“Thirty great seasons at the Metrodome,” Bagley said. “This is the last season on our lease. It’s been thirty exciting seasons, and we appreciate our State leaders putting the stadium issue into play. Our lease expires after the game today and we’ll be the only NFL team without a lease. There’s urgency to resolve this issue, but we’re encouraged by out State leadership and where they are, and the business community and organized labor. We think we’re in position to get this resolved.”

That is good news to hear, and hopefully over the next several months there is more and more positive momentum generated to get the stadium issue resolved and to keep the Vikings where they belong – in Minnesota.

Click here to view a PDF version of an ad from today’s Vikings Playbook that touches on the stadium issue and the lease expiring.

*** “I am a better coach when I have better players. There is no coach who makes all the difference in the world. You must have some degree of talent to get the job done.” Bill Kenney, Offensive Line Coach @Penn St.

So it’s not time to fire Leslie Frazier.

Give him some talent in the defensive backfield and on the offensive line.

Hire a General Manager to make the personnel decisions or let Frazier do it.

    Be smart MN Vikings

Pathetic, if Minnesota blows it with the Vikings..Most places would kill to have a nfl franchise. No brainer..just pathetic

I guarantee that each head of the six-headed VP monster acts independently.

    We all do!

So we need one very good personnel manager/general manager/head coach to be in charge of the deals and draft!!!

How do you think Belichick, Shanahan, Parcells, etc. won all those Super Bowls?

They did not get there by asking people if it was okay to do this or that!!!

    SOMEONE MUST BE IN CHARGE!!!

Right or wrong it’s better than anything else suggested so far. It don’t not never matter whether you like Webb or Ponder. Whether Peterson will come back. Whether the Coach or Coaches should be fired. Or even if it’s an OL or a QB that we need in first round of the draft!

HIRE A GENERAL MANAGER!!! IT’S BY FAR THE BEST MOVE!

Joe Webb should be the favorite to start at QB next year. He has a larger UP side than any quarterback in the NFL!

With Chicago’s average OLine he would ultimately be better than Rodgers!!!

We need running backs it’s true. Wide Receivers, Defensive Tackles, etc.

Keep pressuring the VIKINGS draft team to get Offensive Linemen and Defensive Backs.

My ratings for these two groups:

    1. OLine Run
    2. D Backs versus Run
    3. O Line Pass
    4. D Backs versus Pass

There is not much difference between 3 and 4 !!!!!

Either that or they think that we, as fans, can’t effect them through our blogging efforts.

But for sure, we can effect each other.

Information on how the fans feel is important and powerful.

In any case I am not going to do nothing. I do not want them to ignore the OLine and Dbacks like they did last year. SOMETHING HAS TO HAPPEN FOR ME TO QUIET DOWN. (Then I will find something else, I suppose…lol)

I thought this was about a new stadium…. Call your legislator if you want a new stadium. Be prepared to spend $200 a ticket to go to the game. My prediction is football games will all become pay per view within 6-10 years.. played on tax payer funded ball fields. Then who will you root for? Not the millionaires I hope.

Glad to see the lease at the Metro Dump/Cement Dump with the tent roof expire. The football Gods spoke last year when the roof collapsed. Bring back outdoor football to Minnesota. Say no to a dome stadium. Let the NFL threaten to move. The economy is on the verge of going from a recession to a depression. The greedy owners have no where to go. What is Buffalo, Jacksonville, and Minnesota all going to move to LA? Don’t let them sell you a bill of goods. Cincy is not selling out and they have a new stadium. In Philly we paid for a new stadium and practive facilitiy and we still have not won a Super Bowl as the team promised. The owners threatend to move and we gave in and now we are held hostage by seat licenses. Stand firm Minnesota. The only stadium you will support is one that is outdoor that gives the Vikings a competitive advantage due to weather and is more affordable than a dome Stadium that you may be lucky to get one Super Bowl. Question you have to ask what is more important Hosting a Super Bowl or Winning a Super Bowl.
Game on Minnesota. America is watching. Are you soft or the hardy outdoor type that I have heard about. Bud Grant is watching
