Frazier Looking To Send Off Kleinsasser With A TD, Win

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 29, 2011 – 8:34 am

Vikings TE Jim Kleinsasser will complete his 13th and final season on Sunday, and Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier would like to send the burly-but-affable TE off in style.

“No doubt about it,” Frazier said at his Wednesday press conference. “I’m not letting out any secrets there. If we get down to the one, Chicago, you better stop number 40. We’re going to find a way to try to get him in the end zone if we can.”

If the Vikings are able to get Kleinsasser in the end zone one last time, it’ll be the 8th TD of his career. That’s not a gaudy number for a 13-year veteran TE, but as all Vikings fans know, Kleinsasser’s value to the team is not defined by his line in the box score.

“He’s a guy who has been one of the best, if not the best, blockers in the entire league for his entire career,” Vikings Director of College Scouting Scott Studwell said. “Even in his thirteenth year, he’s still one of the best blockers in the league.”

Given Kleinsasser’s background, it should come as no surprise that he has been able to maintain his spot on an NFL roster in three separate decades. A Carrington, North Dakota native who grew up on a crop and beef farm that his family owns to this day, Kleinsasser revels and excels while working in the trenches.

And it’s when Kleinsasser works in the trenches that the Vikings excel. The 6-3, 272-pound tight end with a Paul Bunyan-type frame and hard-nosed nature has helped pave the way for 7 of the top 8 single-season rushing marks in Vikings history, including Adrian Peterson’s team record and NFL-leading 1,760 yards in 2008. He’s also helped 10 different players rush for 100 yards in a game 62 times.

“He’s meant so much to our organization and he’s meant a great deal to me,” Frazier said. “He’s one of those guys you count on. He’s one of our leaders on our team and just a loyal, hard-working guy, tough as nails and someone you can always count on. You know he is going to come to work prepared, ready to do his job, a tremendous example for any young player coming into the League, just his work ethic and the way he approaches things. Just a team player and it would be great for us to send him out on a winning note on Sunday and I told our guys, if you want to thank him for the teammate that he is, let’s find a way to get this ‘W’ in his final game as a Viking. Tremendous person, tremendous player and he has been great for our organization.”

One more hole to fill in the off season,

I wonder if Coach Frazier can guide the Vikings thru the Draft, and free agency this year. Can he get the team to fill its holes and needs or will they go with that same old worn out thinking of let’s get the best player available no matter what are needs are?

Let’s get a GM, New Stadium, O-line, a defense, and some better coaches under Frazier!

    God Bless U-All.

    Dear Coach Frazier,
Beat the Chicago Bears! Kick their butts! I’m real upset, the VIkings have won only 3 times! Please, beat them! Hog the ball! Run and get a touchdown. I miss my dad all the time. My folks love the Vikings, my dad and me and all my folks.

Bud Grant for GM, the only coach to get the Vikings to the SB.

    Have a great day.

Sure, Frazier..give the plan away to the enemy! Wouldn’t be the first time, huh..

While you are at it, have a Doctor on the side line to fix up Ponder after Urlacker or Peppers come roaring thru the same spot Kleinsasser (Flying Saucer) blocked…

Better yet, just send Loadholt over to the Bears camp with the Play Book..They won’t use it, as they already have enough Toilet paper…

  5. By DRS on Dec 29, 2011 | Reply

Vikings should win if the Defense shows up and plays. If the O-line dose its job, and if the coaches come prepared.

Have a great day and bye for now.

Sorry that should have been, no matter what our needs are, not no matter what are needs are.

Tobay and King…Might as well stay in the Club House…Frazier has a New Running Back (Flying Saucer)

When the Vikings get to the 1 yard line…You mean our goal post or theirs? Either way don’t think we will still have the ball…
Ponder has to perfect his throwing arm to other colored Jersey’s

Jim, thank you for your years of service. Players like you are often overlooked, but you’ve always been part of the backbone of this organization both on and off the football field. I wish you the best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

It’s a shame that some people are using this post to vent their uninformed, nearly bandwagon opinions that are so riddled with spelling and grammar errors it makes them look like a junior-high Packer fan.

Time to be a real Viking fan and cheer for the team and the group of guys we all love, no?

One of the most stable and reliable Vikings. Sad to see him go, but he has a lot to be proud of. One thing this organization has to be better at, though, is honoring all of these talented players by getting them a ring. He was in two NFC championships. We need to get players like Jimmy to the Superbowl.

We all get upset when the Vikings lose and we all have our grievances but at the end of the day all that matters is the team. Good or Bad, Win or Lose, always cheer for OUR team because thats what they are. I hope Jimmy is recognized in the future for all his hard work. Definitely a throw back player of the old school.

You know it would be a better idea to have webb start n play the whole game andtell the bears upfront this so they can prepare for Webb! Why do I say this? First of all everybody including Webb himself, needs to see how he handles a whole game from scratch to finsh. Second let the bears prepare for him like they would for any starter quarterback in order to see how he handles that for a whole game. After all, that is what it would be like for any quarterback. If he comes out shinning thru all four quarters when the opponent has preped for him, then you have to hope he can maintain that level of consistancy thru a whole season of 16 games. Lets remember something here folks; Poder and Webb both didn’t have enough preseason training, and Ponder had the added advantage of “proving” himself thru eight regular season games where Webb did not and Webb Still played better and kept the whole team in supierior playing mode. Hard look? Someone better take a long hard look at Webb! Just sayin*

Ideally we need for him to have an outstanding game( 4 td, 400 yards, etc) and create a frenzy for other nfl teams to offer trades for the #3 pick

The Vikings Organization has zero concern for the draft slot next year with all the focus being on the 1st win against a NFC North team and build confidence going into next year

Spence, Webb is a viable backup. but if a team knows he’ll start they will game plan for him. Teams would spy him with a LB or a S. Give Ponder a full preseason and a decent to good O-line, the sky is the limit. Don’t put to much stock in arm strength, one of the greatest QB’s whose name is Joe Montana had average arm strength, though he had pin point accuracy within 30 yards, by the way Tarkenton had an average arm at best, so don’t read into the arm strength to much.Regarding Sanchez I personally don’t think he’s good at all.

Frist off to all those who hate Frazier as a coach…Don’t forget that there was a lock out and we almost didn’t have football this season. For a first year coach that doesn’t know his team. Frazier did a pretty darn good job coaching what he had to work with. Second, a new coach gets on average three years to prove they are a good fit for the team. To fire Frazier because he may have had an off year that was cut short because of a lock out is just stupid and for that to actually happen would hurt the team more then help it. Third, Thank You Jimmy for all You have done. I played TE in high school because of you, you will be missed by everyone in the Viking Nation. Fourth, Joe Webb is the best QB we have right now. Why no one sees that i don’t know but he has the potential to be the best QB in Vikings History. He was better the Farve, better then T-JOKE, better then Mc Choke(McNabb) and is now proving he is better then Pounder. He is better then Luck will be and better then Griffen III will ever be. WHY NO ONE IS GIVING HIM A CHANCE BEATS ME BUT WE COULD OF HAD A BETTER SEASON IF WE HAD…We are starting to become the Raiders and Bears of old…The team that ruins players careers because we have people who know jack squat about football running our team…Shoot I bet over half of the couch coaches and arm chair coaches no more about football then the owners and people who are running our team…Shoot over half these people know that it would be dumb for us to go after Luck and not go after up grades on our defense and o-line… We also need to stop being a run first pass never team…Its funny how all the announcers say that its easy to pass then to run now because of all the rule changes…hmmm there is a hint for you coaches out there…anyways have a good New Year and SKOL VIKINGS

    To The Vikinngs:
I have finally figured out the problem with the lack of fire in the players bellies, and its the coaches.
After watching both Pagac, and Musgrave it’s easy to see, If the coaches don’t have fire in their Bellies how can they instill that in their players their weekly talks with the media, shows both coaches have a milktoast attitude and couldn’t fire up a gorilla much less a team the players need to get fired up before a game not listen to some slow mouth drivel from mealy, mouthed coaches. Look at all the great coaches, Ara Parsigian, Lombardi, The Tuna, even Jim Harbaugh. they have instilled fire in their Players and even more so, a lets go out and getem attitude.
Now look at the Vikings they don’t play with fire because of the bad coaching over the season. They Need coaches with fire in their own bellies to instill rough and ready attitudes in their players get new blood in the coaching staff the ones you have have not proven they have that winning attitude that is needed to win, get the fire back now or your team is destine to be wannabe winners the rest of their careers.

The One and Only PuckerTrucker!!!!!!!Skol and Happy New year to the Fans.

As a fellow Dakota boy, I have watched Jim Kleinsasser plow down football players just as easily as he plowed down weeds as a farm boy. You make all Vikings fans very proud Jim. Whatever you do, you will do well. Hope you come back as a coach for the Vikes!!!

Right or wrong it’s better than anything else suggested so far. It don’t not never matter whether you like Webb or Ponder. Whether Peterson will come back. Whether the Coach or Coaches should be fired. Or even if it’s an OL or a QB that we need in first round of the draft!
HIRE A GENERAL MANAGER!!! IT’S BY FAR THE BEST MOVE!
