Career Year Leads To Jared Allen’s 4th Pro Bowl Honor

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 28, 2011 – 7:54 am

No Viking has had a better season than DE Jared Allen. And Jared Allen has had no better season in his ultra-productive 8-year career. Allen’s peers across the NFL and his fans across the country have responded by voting him onto this year’s NFC Pro Bowl roster, marking the 4th time Allen has been named to the Pro Bowl in his career.

Allen has made a career out of terrorizing opposing QBs, and he had his best output yet in 2011. Through 15 games Allen has tallied 18.5 sacks, which is 3.5 more than his previous career high of 15.5 in 2007 with the Kansas City Chiefs and 4.5 more than his best mark with the Vikings (14.5 in both 2008 and 2009). Allen is 3.0 sacks away from setting the franchise single-season sack record, which is currently held by Chris Doleman (21.0), and he’s 4.0 away from the NFL’s single-season record, which is held by Michael Strahan (22.5).

Allen’s 18.5 sacks lead the NFL, and he’s also the NFL leader in fumble recoveries with 4. Twice this season Allen has posted 3.0-sack games, and since entering the league in 2004 Allen leads all players with 101.5 sacks. Allen also recorded his 4th career safety this season, which ties an NFL record for most safeties in a career.

Wow, the Bears allowed 26 sacks… Compared to our 45 sacks, they seem to have a probowl-caliber Oline.

Come on Jared, get your 4.5 sacks to set a new record!!

Nice work Jared – It was a good day for me when the Vikings traded to get you from the Chiefs. I hope you get the chance at another run at the title very soon to round out your great career!!

I know im gonna take some heat for this but Nobody is saying it. Can somebody tell me the last time Allen got a sack in the 4th quarter….you know, when it matters most? In the 4th he does absolutely nothing in regards to rushing the passer. I can understand not getting sacks, but he doesnt even get any pressure on the QB’s. Now you guys may say, “well he gets double-teamed.” But the great ones manage to overcome that and make a difference in crunch time. This season you can not possibly say hes been Great in the 4th.

The truth must be revealed Titus. Am I lying about anything I said? Not by a long shot. Jared Allen has Absolutely No Impact in the 4th Quarter. Why do people hate Lebron? Because he Never shows up in the 4th. How is Jared Allen any different Titus? Please inform me.

Allen is Good, hes not great. Im no troll I just tell it how it is. You guys claim hes sooooooooooo great but dont the great pass-rushers have a constant impact in the 4th? And I prefer Ware without a doubt.

F—–n He||……Ponder is probly gonna start on Sunday? What more does Webb has to do For F— Sake

  49. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Ponder is the QB of the future for the team and they are still evaluating that. I think that Ponder is a more natural QB and has a better QB skill set. He’s going to win more games in the long run. Webb is a talented play, and his skills open the game up. He’s a great backup QB and wildcat player. I think it is up to Webb if he’s content with the role he has, I don’t see Coach going in anyother direction.

  50. By SpenceEveryBodyLovesMe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

What has Ponder shown you guys? Hes a game-manager at best, a turnover machine, and possesses a Noodle Arm. Webb is Wonderful. Ponder is Pathetic.

  51. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Sorry Spence we disagree this time Webb = Tebow Webb has a better arm though. It may take more than a season and maybe more for Ponder to become the QB he is capable to be. Many want to give Coach Frazier another year why not Ponder. Seems fair to me.

  52. By SpenceEveryBodyLovesMe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Webb has only started like 3 games in his career. If he works on his accuracy then do you believe he should start? And also when he comes in did you notice how good the o-line looks?

  53. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

O Line looks better as first thing Webb does is move out of the pocket in to clear space so he can throw or run.

  54. By SpenceEveryBodyLovesMe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

This year Webb has only had 2 drives that didnt lead to 7 points….the blatant facemask at the 1 against Detroit, and the FG against the Redskins.

  55. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

OL issues will be address off season this year and it will probably look very different next year. We will have a full compliement of OTAs and a full camp, and I also think that Ponder is going to have to prove himself against Webb during the offseason. We are in a good place in QB to young players that will compete for the job next year. I just think Ponder is overall has the best QB talent. He has the ability to find the second or third guy. Webb is too eagar to head down field with his feet. I also think that Webb suffers from being a Childress experiement. We will see how it goes next year. It’s obvious Ponder is the guy now. Unless you all want to revolt against Coach Frazier.

  56. By SpenceEveryBodyLovesMe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

I believe Ponder is the guy for the future. But for this sunday I want Webb in there. 7 consecutive drives inside the opponents 10 by Webb speaks for itself. The offense WANTS to win for Webb.

  57. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

I think it may have been more about not losing for Peterson. I could be wrong though.

  58. By SpenceEveryBodyLovesMe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

You cant use that excuse for the game against the Lions…

  59. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

There is no arguement that when Webb comes in as QB there is more excitement on the field. He adds the dimension of having a 3rd RB in the mix. With Harvin, Gerhard, and Webb on the field it gives defenses fits. That in turn helps the confidence of the entire offense. It’s a Momentum changer.

  60. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Spence, PLEASE! I agree with Mike B. Ponder is the Viking’s future QB, they did not draft him in the first round to replace him with a WR/QB experiment. Again I will add that Webb deserves playing time-but not full time at QB, the league catches up to those QB’s in a hurry (M. Vick, T. Tebow) it’s only a matter of time. Everyone these days wants instant satisfaction, they have blinders on the sides of their heads just like race-horses. Take the blinders off and look at the BIG picture. Look at the team we have right now and realize QB is the least of the Vikes concerns.

  61. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

I think it would be wise to have Webb return kickoffs as well, just like Hester does. The more he is out there, the better it will be for the entire offense. It will also help Ponder’s confidence level-it’s hard to be a rookie starting QB and feel like you have to be looking over your shoulder from the get-go.

  62. By SpenceEveryBodyLovesMe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Yupp. What could ever go wrong having our Backup Quarterback returning kicks…

  63. By Deertracks on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Viking-ology…Webb return kickoffs? You want him mangled? I’m with Spence on this..I have been taping Viking games for years…I go back and watch gamws…Webb games did make mistakes, just like all the Big Famous QB’s….

Webb has NOT been given the same chance as fumble-fingers Ponder!Just what are you turkey’s afraid of? Webb just might prove you wrong? Not only you but that bigger turkey Frazier?

When the Chicago House-cleaners (Urlacker and Peppers hand Ponder his head, then watch Webb come in (again) to clean up the mess!..Ponder is good, Webb is better…

  64. By Deertracks on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

At least Webb throws to the people wearing the same color jersey he has…That is what fumble fingers means.

  65. By Saddy on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Just watched Fraziers press, He said he is starting Ponder because he gives us the best chance to win.

Here is my take on the that, Ponder gives us the best chance to have a top 3 draft pick, I can breathe now Webb is not starting, Vikings could have won with him and played a spoil sport on our top draft pick.

Just maybe Urlacker and/or Peppers might bring in Webb..

Don’t wish you harm, Ponder…But bring your crutches…

  68. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

My point with Webb returnin kickoffs is to get him on the field more often. You can get hurt anytime in any position. Vikes will need to look at a viable back-up QB so Webb can be on the field in other capacities- Blazer/RB/WR/Special teams. The more he is out there the better. Fumble fingers or not, Ponder should, in my humble opinion remain the starter. What if the Colts gave up on Manning after his first year, or Dallas with Aikman, San Diego gave up on Breez and look what happened there. If the draft goes well, we should have a younger and more talented team next year, then we will all have a good idea on Ponder’s development.

  69. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

BTW, I thought you-Spence and Deertracks would realize, I’m meaning next year when I said Webb should return kickoffs. I’m guessing they will have a different #2 in there to give Webb more onfield opportunities in multi-offensive areas, similar to what Percy “The Warrior” Harvin

  70. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

whoops! hit the submit button. …similar to what Percy “The Warrior” Harvin is doing minus QB-ing.

  71. By Viking33 on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Anyone who watches the game knows that Allen demands so much attention, espescially in obvious passing downs. As great as he is he still pressures the QB when he has three guys blocking and chipping on him. The question is, where is everyone else when Allen is getting so much attention?

  72. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

It does not matter. Nobody calls the rest of the guys on the D-Line great. Well some say Kevin Williams is but we Know he is Not.

  73. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Allen is a beast-he is having his greatest season while the team is having it’s worst. Great job JA!

  74. By Viking33 on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

After what Webb did last season he deserved the chance to play QB for us. Drafting Ponder killed that idea, it told everyone that Webb was not our guy. Right away you should have moved Webb to WR/KR, and not QB. You left a QB controversy on the table, and now it is the Elephant in the room. You can’t move him to WR/KR now, it is too late. New, different QB’s coming into the league – running QB’s, Tebow – Newton and Webb……?

  75. By Viking-ology on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Viking33 you make some good points-my take on the year was Ponder should have started from the get-go, with McNaab as #2. IThat would have given Webb other options at the offense. Frazier thought he was a genius bringing McNaab in, and when it backfired on him it set the tone for the rest of the season.

  76. By Immureglass on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Spence- you do realize that Ware only has 3 more sacks than Allen has in the 4th quarter. Ware 6- Allen 3. And you can’t even compare the two because the play two different positions. Allen is a great DE and Ware is a great LB.

  77. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Viking-ology probly wants Sage as a gunner on Punts.

  78. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

@Immureglass…………But Ware constantly causes pressure on the QB’s. JARED ALLEN DOESNT! WHAT DONT YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  79. By Immureglass on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

And 2 of those sacks come from when the team is down in the 4th. He’s pretty much the only person who tries to show up in the 4th for this defense.

  80. By Immureglass on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Spence- the difference between Ware and Allen is because Ware is rushing the passer from behind the front defensive line. The DE and DT on the Cowboys are get blocked by the opposing teams Oline so theres not that many people left to block Ware. Allen plays on the Defensive line so he has to deal with more people blocking him than Ware does. And thats why hes able to get more pressure on the Qb.

  81. By Viking33 on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

All I know is that last thing you want to do is waffle between QB’s – Lets not turn this into a Mike Shananhanigans team. We chose to go with Ponder, and I am not saying he cannot succeed because I think he can, and we know we have an excellent backup QB in Webb. That is important in the NFL, as we have seen this season from the Texans, Bears, Chiefs, etc. That is where we are at, we need to move on with building around these guys with more talent. OL – we are decent in the middle and horrid on the edges, that is first and formost. Then draft heavy defense after that, that will be a good start in the right direction.

Kevin Williams is a great defensive lineman, but he is out of sync this year as he doesn’t have Pat as his backup. I am wondering if Allen is getting doubled and trippled teamed where is b rob doing. There has to be holes out there if you are putting 3 on one guy.

  83. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Kevin’s foot injury may not be fully healed either and that is very painful to step on. I had that injury and didn’t even want to walk.

  84. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

@Mike B. Just stop it please. He is not playing Great at all. If hes great then Marcus Sherals is a better Punt Returner than Devin Hester!

  85. By Mike B. on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

How many times has Kevin been in the probowl? He is a great player. He’s had one bad year, so get of my case. I am doubting your ability to be objective on football .

  86. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

But at the End of the Day. You guys still havent proven me wrong. When I say Jared Allen doesnt show up in the 4th quarter all you guys did was provide excuse after excuse. Just face it, he gets his 1 or 2 sacks in the 1st half then does nothing when we need him the most. Hes a really good player, but c’mon I expect Great players to step their game up when the team needs them the most.

  87. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Thats what makes them great. When your team is down in the 4th you can rely on that certain individual to make that game changing play.

  88. By Touchdown on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Hey Spence you troll head, don’t you remember week 3 against the Lions when he almost single handley gave the Vikings the win. He was inches form having a safety after 2 false starts a sack and a tackle on the rb. That is called a great Dlineman.

  89. By Immureglass on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Spence- No its that you just don’t want accept facts that have been pointed out. And your just making up excuses to not want to believe it. And you really haven’t proved that he isn’t a great DE. And don’t use D. Ware as example because they play to different positions.

  90. By Touchdown on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

He did make a play but our O failed him

  91. By Viking Joe on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Spence, I mean Cali, you can’t argue with 18.5 sacks, that’s a great year !!!

  92. By Viking33 on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

All he gets is 1 or 2 sacks a game………………….Um – Spence, that is pretty good, check the stats of rest of the players in the league. He is just the best sack man in the NFL since he came into the league……but ya you are correct Spence, thats not good at all. Maybe if he could bake a cake for you in the fourth quarter that would prove his worth to you. I don’t know of anyone I would rather have playing DE for the Vikes other that Jared Allen.

  93. By Spence on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Ponder should not be playing this week

Finally, will you guys stop callin me Trolls? Dam. Im sorry that I expect “Great Players” to perform Great in the 4th Quarter.

Tony Romo is Great, Michael Vick is Great. Philip Rivers is Great. And Lebron James is just Brilliant I mean, a player can be Great even though they do shrink in Crunch Time according to “Vikings33, Touchdown,Immureglass,Mike B,Viking-ology”, and plenty of other Clowns.

Did you even read the article? Or just the headline? We all know why you take a dump on this website ever so often…You are a lonely person who needs the comfort of a battle of moronic ideaology in words…kinda sad really. Allen is better than great! You can call it what ever you want. The reason he doesn’t get as many sacks in the second half is because the team that they are playing against make adjustments to stop him.ala he gets chipped by another player. The boys move Ware all over the place so its difficult to chip him with the multiple rushing schemes they imploy. After you go back and actually read the article you can add the fact that Allen is also fourth on the team in tackles including 45 solo.

  99. By Immureglass on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

And Tebow is the greatest of them all by your logic. Its not just what happens in the 4th Quarter that makes a player great. Yea it contributes to it but its not the standard of greatness.

  100. By paul on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Jared Allen a Packer, it could happen…

Guys, guys, guys just because I dont think hes great doesnt mean I think hes bad…..Believe it or not I actually Jared Allen is really good. He shows some much heart and determination and at times it just unblockable, in the first 3 quarters.

I wasnt even trying to start any chaos or anything.

And for the last time, Im not a troll. Im just a frustrated die-hard Vikings fan.

  103. By Immureglass on Dec 28, 2011 | Reply

Spence – I guess we’re just gonna have to agree to disagree on what we believe makes a player great and what makes a player good. Its been a frustrating year for all of Vikings fans.

Mike – you need to check your arithmetic.
    18.5 minus 15.5 = 3, not 3.5 and
    18.5 minus 14.5 = 4, not 4.5.
    Picky, picky.
    Great job Jared.

Well deserved Jared. Wouldn’t surprise me if the NFC Defensive Player of the Year award was your next trophy for your mantelpiece. You certainly earned your paycheque and then some.

@spence….. dude facts are facts…… two biggest attributes of players such as allen, ware, and babin…. tackles and sacks…… allen has more in both categories over both of these players… seriously how do you not get this……. did you make it past second grade math?

  108. By KLAWZ on Dec 29, 2011 | Reply

I just feel bad for the guy….. cause besides that fact that he is flippin awsome…. hes got fire…. always getting his team and the fans going…. what more do you want from him….. h#ll, and he is hilarious!!

It never ceases to amaze me that you can have a player having a career season, leading the NFL in a positive statistic, being named by his peers to the pro bowl, the heart and soul of our team, a true leader, a tremendous defensive lineman who bats down ba lls, causes fumbles, makes tackles, plays his position better than anyone in the league and you still have some armchair i d i o t knocking what you have accomplished. Great job Jared you rock and you are one of the reasons that I have been able to continue to enjoy watching Viking football through this season.

  110. By Spence on Dec 29, 2011 | Reply

For F— Sake do you guys not listen to what im saying? I think Jared Allen is a freaking unstoppable beast at times. When hes on hes on, nobody can block him. He shows so much heart and determination.

My only thing is that We havent seen that in the 4th Quarter. Thats all to it. I think hes extremely good. But when the game has been on the line has he or has not gotten the sack or fumble in the 4th? No.

Period. I think you guys just want to start something now….

I appreciate ALL of Jared Allen’s contributions to this team. No matter what game they came in, or what QUARTER they came in. He has been a model for current and future players on the Vikings team, as well as for all teams. For some, nothing will be good enough. For me, I love having him! SKOL Jared Allen, and SKOL Vikings!!!!

hey spence guess what looked up stats for jarred allen julius peppers and damarcus ware the last 3 years for sacks in the 4th quarter

    peppers= 7

    ware= 14

    allen = 12
so obviously you dont know what your talking about cause he matches up with some of the best sack leaders in the game in the 4th quarter

    To all the wannabe Managers:
Jarred Allen has played with fire in his belly that no coach could teach. He has come to Vikings because he had prooblems with the chiefs not using him to his fullest. He by far is the Sack Master of the NFL and will continue to be in the Future all they need to do in the 4th Quarter is on certain plays let him roam as a free safty up and down the line and let him pick his spots to attack from. Then he could really cause problems for the O-lines of other teams. Try it you might just find another demension to Jarred let me Sack you Allen.
