Is going off-sides on the late on-side kick a demonstration of lack of discipline, poor head coaching, poor special teams coaching or simply a snapshot of substandard professionalism exhibited by the Viking players?

The Vikings have never had a team this bad in my 25ish years of watching. Whos resposible for this no talent squad of player? Wouldnt the VP of player pesonel be to blame for this mess?

@Mike Wobschall … why is Adrian Peterson best game this season the one game Sullivan didnt play?

Sullivan hasnt got Peterson to break 125 but Berger got Peterson 175 … shouldnt Berger get the raise?

Could this be another mistake by an oversized EGO that wont accept hes wrong?

We all know this season has been a downer for us vikings fans, but what we have to look forward too is that the top 3 pick in the 2012 draft, production of ponder in the off season, and hopefully some good free agent acquisitions. What are the things the vikings need to adress with the pick (WR,OL,DB) and what can they get in free agency? What are your thoughts on going in to the offseason?

  17. By Shawn on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

Will we bring in a big name DC and or FA this offseason?

  18. By animal26 on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

Why do the Vikings make poor decisions in the players personal department? Signing Sully to a contract extension and what has he done? Answer:Nothing. Sully is weak, small and like paper, defensive tackles rip right though him every time. Phil slowpoke, is just god awful. Herrera shouldn’t be starting in the NFL period, and Charlie Johnson is just bad. I would go into further detail about how just about every position on this team in general, is bad, but I don’t have that kind of time. We Viking fans know what the problem to this team is better, then the coaches and higher ups know themselves. it’s the hire ups in the vikings organization, players and the coaches. this franchise needs to be cleaned out from the bottom up; new player, coaches, GM, and owner. it’s going to take a long time, before the Vikings are even relevant in the NFL.

Rick Spielman 2009 draft … lets grade his performance

    1- Percy Harvin … A … ( good job/WTG Rick)

2- Phil Loadholt … D … ( has not gotten any better since day 1 / is a penalty machine and a major liability in pass protection )

3- Asher Allen … D+ … ( seems that opposing QBs look for him every play and the only reason hes not a failure is he can tackle)

    4- No Choice …

5- Jasper Brinkeley … D … ( the only reason hes not a failure is EJ Henderson hasnt let him fail, sure wouldve been nice to have an OL or DB )

    6- No Choice …

7- Jamarca Sanford … C … ( solid special teams guy, average base defense guy, liability in the passing game … this guy should be nothing more than a special teams ace)

    _____________________________________________________________

So Rick Spielman you get a D … only 1 quality player. The rest should be nothing but back ups and out of the league

Rick Spielman 2008 draft … Lets grade his performance

1- Trade for Jared Allen …. A+ ( great gift from the football gods )

2- Tyrell Johnson … F- … ( Ive never seen such a wasted roster spot, somehow he keeps getting opportunities to hurt the team )

3- No Choice … ( part of Jared Allen trade )

    4- No Choice

    5- John David Booty … F … wheres he ?

5- Letroy Guion … D … ( Hasnt really done anything couple of flashes then he dissapears for weeks and weeks )

6- John Sullivan … C+ … ( Im grading high because people tell me hes doing good, by people I mean Viking people have never heard any praise from outside of the organization and oddly Peterson has more yards when he isnt playing )

    6- Jaymar Johnson … F … Where is he ?

    7- No Choice

    _____________________________________________________________

Rick Spielman you get a C- , Jared Allen being a future HoFer and Sullivan at best a solid Center but nothing else

  25. By Jon on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

Webb is the true Quarterback of the Future, but he’s just going to keep riding the bench and practicing with the second team, because apparently you guys are just bound and determined to lose.

How much more losing football are you going to make your fans watch before you finally are able to admit that Ponder needs at least two years of clipboard duty before he’s even ready to be a backup QB on ANY NFL roster, and if Joe had been your starter all year, you would be a playoff team instead of an embarrassment?

Rick Spielman 2007 draft … Lets grade his performance

    1- Adrian Peterson … A+ … ( Gift from the football gods )

2- Sidney Rice … C- … ( Great when he healthy but the question is when is he healthy? )

    3- Marcus McCauley … F– … ( WOW where is this guy? )

4- Brian Robison … C … ( Solid back up DL who is starting for us )

    5- Aundrae Allison … F- … Who?

    6- Rufus Alexander … F … Who?

7- Tyler Thigpen … F … Is he in the league?

    7- Chandler Williams … F … Who?

    __________________________________________________________

Rick Spielman you get a C- , Better thank Adrian Peterson every day for this grade

I remember last year whenL. Frazier took over and he said…” i don’t know if Brett Favre is going to play next year, but he sure will not be playing here.” I thought to myself don’t be so quick to get rid of him. There was so many times this year where I know he could’ve made something happen. The coaching staff is to blame.

    Mike,
This is the southernmiss viking fan. Haven’t emailed you since the Brett Farve days and the almost super bowl season. I hate to say it but since following the vikes since the 70′s, the last couple of years have been very difficult to take for this viking fan. I’m afraid that we are in quite the rebuilding stage. Many NFL teams are years ahead of us and are on the upswing. Viking fans are going to have to realize that it may be five or more years before we field a competitive team again. I was afraid for years when I saw what we were paying free agents. I know we had some competitive seasons with this philosophy, but from a business long term viewpoint I was concerned. Most franchises that have been consistently competitive at a high level have drafted well. Lets face it, our drafts picks for the most part have not been competitive. I wouldn’t worry about trying to get high priced free agents. I would trade my 1st round pick next season for what I could get–maybe a late round 1st and two seconds–if a team is really wanting the 3rd overall pick (or better). Evaluate talent and build through the draft. Viking fans will have to be patient. 5-7 wins next year would be a successful season. I hate to sound pessimistic, but I’m afraid I’m right. We are in dire need in the O line and DB’s. Tell me your thoughts when you have a moment.

    Take care

    Lr

@ Shawn – I agree with you on the Draft Picks – I have looked over them also. Seems that maybe he should only be allowed to Draft in the First Round – which in judging by NFL 1st round track records is not too bad.

Mike – Is there any chance that I can draft a player for the Vikes? If not me, then maybe we should give the fans one pick – the 7th rounder. Let the Fans vote on the internet, give them 3-4 choices and Bang we will do it. You can call it the fans choice!!! What do you think?

  32. By mike b on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

After drafting from LSU to get DB and an OL man then they need to go to free agent after that we need veterans to play good next year not wait for rookies to learn….and send some of them coaches packin….bottom line is Vikings need to spend money on FA… Ponder can stay

I have been a Minnesota Vikings fan since the mid 70′s, even though I am not from Minnesota. What a shameful season we have had this year. We need a shakeup in the coaching staff and need to make some wise draft picks. Then maybe with some time we can rebuild a winning team. Why do they not let Frazier go?

Hey Mike – Are we going to hire more ex players from the 85 Bears team to Coach next year? I like Frazier and don’t think he should be graded on this season, but I am not sure I like too many Bears on my team. Seems like a Conflict of Interest.

Kevin from Ohio hey when are we going to release the whole O LINE with some people who would like to keep there QB protected?and some DB’s who will man up an stick there man?Why is frazire still here?

  42. By vikesfansteve on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

2-12, 6 losses in a row. Players on defense ignoring calls put in by the coordinator. 6 yds passing 7 mins into the 4th quater yet Frazier, Musgrave & Pagac still have jobs?!

Sorry but the Vikings just flat out quit today just like they did against the Packers. That falls all on Frazier.

If Wilf doesn’t want to pay for another fired coach then demote Frazier to a well paid defensive back coach again but as a head coach he has to be fired. No way around that now.

Musgrave has to go. Pagac is a joke.

    What a horrible team effort.

Hey Mike – Ponder looked a little gun shy today, seeing rush even when there wasn’t. Is that a product of the beating he has taken this year? I hope we fix that soon before he goes the way of a one David Carr. What are your thoughts on getting a LT and RT through draft or FA? Also, with the extension of Sullivan at Center what are futures of Fusco and Love?

There is a lot of work that needs to be done with this team. We look slow on defense in comparison to the Saints. Pick up affordable free agents but build through the draft. We must do a better job of evaluating college talent.

True. No QB is effective if he can’t set his feet. Ponder has been swallowed up numerous times this season before he can scan the field. Some if his turnovers is a result of a competitor trying to make a play for his team. Once he gets some protection, I think you are going to see a pretty good QB. I hate seeing AP’s talent wasted on a non competitive team. If we get better on the O line, our offense will make more plays.

Mike B– read your post on the other blog— my point was not so much that I am sold on TJack, but that we have to be careful with our judgments of future careers with young players and need to stay patient– I read so many people calling for Ponder’s head– the guy never had a chance. I don’t think what we saw today proves anything of where Ponder will be in 2-4 years.

As much as I hate to say it in order for the Vikings to be competitive sooner rather than later. The Vikings maybe be forced to part with a few of it’s stars so that they might obtain more draft picks and get a general manager worth their salt and a clue about drafting. The team has so many holes to fill and not enough picks to get the job done in just one draft and so it must acquire more picks via trades. I;m not implying give players away by no means. What is your opinion on this subject Mike?

  59. By mr smiff on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

WHY AREN’T THE VIKINGS COPYING FROM THE PACKERS? I know we hate them, but d@mmit, they have the right formula. Has anybody else taken the time to notice how that organization is run? How self contained it is? They don’t rely on so-called finished products from college, nor do they waste money and draft picks on free agents and trades. Instead, they take young guys who they believe have potential and strong work ethic, and TRAIN AND DEVELOP THEM IN-HOUSE. The benefits are expontial- a stacked, youthful roster, better camaraderie and team morale, and entire team buying into McCarthy’s philosophy of Packer ball, and a more disciplined, cohesive unit- a star team if you will, as opposed to a team of stars (e.g. the Eagles). For that to happen however, it would require having the right coaching staff and personnel. Before the Vikings can rebuild the team, they need to rebuild the front office. The first step would therefore be to get a competent and smart General Manager. So the real question is, will the Vikings hire a GM?

  60. By Viking33 on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

Hey Mike – Do you know and if you do know can you please explain the process of drafting a player onto our team. In terms of who drafts – who has influential input – who has the final say? It is actually confusing to average Viking Fan how this process flows.

Trading your stars is not the way to do it, unless you think your stars are at the end of their careers. All that would do is create another hole to be filled, you can’t rob from Peter to pay Paul only to now owe Peter…..Stars are what you need in this League, keep the ones you have and get guys that can help them. Even for as bad as we are, the difference between where we are at and being around .500 is not that far off. It is making 5-8 more plays a game, if that sometimes it is only one. That is what makes the difference between winning and losing in the NFL and what makes this game so great!!

  68. By Viking33 on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

3rd and 1 or 2 –> We pitch to Peterson going left. Wait the Tight End released without even chipping the DE who lined up over him and he catches AP in the backfield before he even gets a chance to get going. I didn’t get a chance to see who that was but he has to know he has to break off his route to at least try and block the guy in front of him on a play going his way. He is the point of attack, he is the edge, if not him then who could have made that play…..ya no one else. That is basic understanding of the play called , that is either coaching or execution – not talent.

  69. By Alex on Dec 18, 2011 | Reply

    Mike,

Why is Kyle Rudolph barely involved with our offense? I think he has more potential to make an impact on our offense than Shiancoe. It frustrates me that he’s not making catches on a regular basis, especially since the Vikings only have two wins on the season.

It’s unbelievable. NFC Championship game a couple years ago and now this! I don’t see this happening to the Packers or the Patriots or Saints, etc, etc? As a fan for over thirty years this is very painful to watch.
When Leslie Frazier took over everyone was so amazed that the plaeyrs took over his calm presence. Maybe that’s one of the problems. I don’t see any excitement or fire in this team.

I also agree that both Musgrave and Pagac need to go. It seems like the other teams know what we are going to do. We have been picking up other teams has beens and it’s finally caught up with us. The OL and DB’s are horrendous. They should be giving Ponder their game checks for the punishment he’s been taking. Maybe if you give hime more than 2 secongs to throw the ball he wouldn’t have so many interceptions. And I can’t remember the last time we had an interception. Over and over again I see 4-5 guys watching the receiver cath the ball and then we should try and tackle him.

If Indy and St.Louis can win a couple more games we can get additional draft picks for whoever wants Mr. Luck.

If you are going to lose then play your young guys to get them better for the future. The whole state is tired of seeing the Shenko’s, Klinesauuser’s and Williams in the game when we are getting whomped. Add the inept play calling and a coach who stands on the sidelines like a tree stump and the games are getting unwatchable. Don’t know what can be done but Ziggy do something!

Well, at least we know the Packers won’t go very far– the Giants had their number and now the Chiefs kept them to 14 points- HA! They are done. All great teams now have a blueprint. The Pack will have a very tough time against Brees and the Saints– if they do make it to the big one– Patriots will kill them.

We need a coaches that are strategists and have a winning background heading into the job, not ex players that think garnishing respect from from the players is all it takes to win. I mean, how many people in the world are football geniuses? I bet more than every staff member on each team in the NFL..Where are these people hiding? Why are EX players getting these jobs? WHY?! WHY?! WHY?!

born and raised in minnesota love the vikes but if you don’t fire frazier and put a real quarterback in not ponder. you will not get the fan and taxpayer support to support the renvue for a new stadium. Major head coach and quartback change in order to get the stadium passed by all of minnesotans is needed. The fans love the vikings but most if not will not pay to go watch a loosing team like the vikings this year. Think about what you really want wilfs..

Or is being the worst in the league an acceptable position in the current Viking administration?

Why does everyone want to have Luck? Yes, he seems to be legit, but you have to consider that his O-line and receiving core is far better than Ponder’s old and new line… That said, I think we have to build a “solid” O-line and a “solid” receiving core first to see how good Ponder really is.

  115. By VikeNasty on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

The problem with the O-Line is probably more that Defensive Lines can pin their ears back as they say since they know it’s going to be a pass. They know its a pass because the Vikings Defense gives up the lead early and in a big way. I think if they improve the D than the Vikes line will benefit when they aren’t being forced to be predictable.

  116. By VikeNasty on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

That being said if that LT Kahli or however you spell it is their on the 3rd pick it would be hard to pass him up even for that beast LSU Cornerback.

  117. By Brad on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

Is it true that they are going to fire Pagac and replace him with Singletary. We need an offensive line in order to make plays. It kind of looks like Ponder would be a better QB if he wasn’t running for his life after about 2-3 seconds from the snap. It also looks like Ponder really is not the same after the Green Bay Packers game (second game) as he was when he first started to take over the team. Why does the coaches fix the problem with the offensive line? They got to see what is going on and who is messing up. Why not put in the 2nd or 3rd string players for the offensive line in. We would not do any worse, heck we might actually do better-maybe.

  118. By mossforlife on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

You put Brett Favre ahead of the head Coach who built the team. You get rid of TJ, Sidney Rice, Matt Birk and Chester. As a team & State you got caught up that you were a QB away in winning the SB. This team rebuilted the same time GB did, however, they were much smarter. Now your in last place, and you still havent learned your lesson. The State of Minnesota Fans destroyed this team. Good luck. Now TJ torched Chicago! Didn’t Brad Johnson win a SB after leaving Minnesota. It’ll be some years before order is re-established.

  121. By goldeneagle on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

It is going to take some good drafts to get this team competitive again. Many people have mentioned the talent on LSU”s team. LSU is loaded with talent this year. I have watched them play several times. There is a reason why they are ranked #1. Alabama is loaded with top players. Arkansas as well. You can go all over the south and find great players. Southern Miss LB’s and DB’s set an NCAA record this year with 8 INT returns for touchdowns (they have even more with blocked punts, etc.). Check out what that D did to the undefeated Houston Cougars. Look down south to start rebuilding this team.

  122. By Matthias on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

Sanford is actually doing “fine”… Our DB’s and Asher Allen are pretty bad right now… Just 2 weeks and our season is over. Let’s see, which pick we will get.

  123. By goldeneagle on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

Sanford was a 7th round pick out of Ole Miss. He didn’t have the footspeed of the other top DB’s in the country, but made up for it with passion and a nose for the football. Our DB’s leave too much space for receivers. When you play zone you must lock down receivers that enter your space. The Vikes have not done that much this year. Of course, a good interior rush by the D line would help these guys. You can’t pull wagons with bunny rabbits–you have to have horses. We must do a better job of evaluating draft talent.

    To the Viking Fans:
We as Fans can no longer place the Blame on the coaches or the Players. The Blame rest Squarely on the Shoulders of The Wilf Family of Vice Presidents and Ziggy Wilf, Mark Wilf. They are the ones that hired Leslie Frazier, and approved his hiring of Pagac, and Musgrave, and the special teams coach and then bringing in D. McNabbwho just kept losing week after week until we were so deep in losses that we couldn’t help ourselves out of that deep hole McNabb put us in.
All we have listened to all year long is we’ve got to do a better job of coaching, And from Ponder I’ve got to do a better job of handling the ball and stop fumbling, throwing interceptions, and all the rest of the garbage from the Vikings coaches week in and week out. I’m Glad that I don’t live in Minnesota any longer so I can’t buy my season tickets any longer I thought Les Steckel was a bad coach but at least we knew he was bad and we got rid of him. Now if the Wilfs use the excuse of owing Chilly money as the reason for keeping Frazier past this year than The Wilfs get what they deserve and thats a lousy Team. They could turn things around by hiring a good GM and a top notch coaching staff even with the players we have now a good coaching staff could whip them into shape. with a Good GM and coaching Staff they could Draft good plays to help the O-line that leaks like a SIEVE and a D-line and secondary that can’t stop the run and pass plays. And give Jarred Allen some deceient help.

    Fire Leslie Steckle Frazier:

He has ruined this team all because he thought he owed
McScabb something from when they were both with Philly, he Stated so in one of his interviews. The one thing Frazier forgot was who he was working for and that was the MN Vikings, and the Wilf Family. He pulled the wool over Ziggy’s eyes Mark Wilfs eyes and the fans eyes. How he managed to get McScabb 7,000,000.00 bucks for 6 games is beyond me and how much of a kick back from McScabb did Frazier get. All I know is he has managed to put a young QB into a straight jacket of fear in only what 6 Games this kid will be lucky if he ends up a good QB in the future instead of a basket case in 6 gamesthey should of played Webb instead at least he had been through the mill once or twicefrom last year. and like I said Friday the only reason Frazier wouldn’t play Webb is because he wanted the Vikes to lose to the Saints. Frazier has finally show just how bad a coach he is and by the O-line, and D-line coaches he hired Pagac and Musgrave.

This is the worse team in the proud Viking History!! For the first time ever, I am ashamed to be a Viking fan, with the effort that this team has put forth!!!!! I don’t like what I see out of Ponder so far, but I’m not going to blame him altogether, because our offensive line stinks!!!! How in the world did Sullivan get an extension!!!!!! This is the worse center we’ve ever had, and we’ve had some good ones, with the likes of Birk, Lowdermilk and Tinglehoff anchoring the line for years!!!

Sanford is fine really what games are you fans watching. The guy sucks he’s slow and can’t tackle. And he’s never in position to make a play they torch him every week. Why is it that our corners look at him every time they get beat its obvious he’s always out of position and late every play so no he’s not fine he should’ve got bench to.

This organization continues to make alot of mistakes, and this last one, giving J. Sullivan an extension takes the cake!! You have to wonder, if this organization sees the same thing that we do as fans?? There is nobody on this offensive line that deserves an extension except S. Hutchinson, one of the best guards we’ve ever had!! We continue to make bad decisions here in Viking land because we just don’t have the right ownership and management to run it!!!!

i WROTE A LONG EXTENSIVE blog to a minniapolis sports writer. I explained to him why Fraizer wont start all of the rookies at this point. The reason is , is that Fraizer is protecting Spielman and Studwell. If fraizers plays all of the rookie draft picks, then the whole world will know that they are a BUST and dont belong in pro ball, So it further exposes just how inept Spielman and Stuwell realy are at there jobs. Once the Wilfs figure this out , They will all be fired. Lets hope sooner than later.

This team could get beat 100-0 and he would still sit there and tell them, good game guys, we did a lot of good things our here today, and we just have to continue working hard and well get it right. Right now, my confidence in frazier, the players, and the front office is about the size of a grain of salt. There is no true leadership on this team.

How many fans stop believe Ponder is our future? Do anyone remember how bad the Pittsburgh line was when Big Ben led the league in getting hit in multiple seasons, I know everyone remembers the David Carr era but what about Joey Harrington in detroit, the Bears with Cutler, the 49ers with Alex Smith, the jets with Chad Pennington who Ponder reminds me of. Our O line is bad at all five positions honestly and drafting one guy won’t change nothing when it comes to the O line it takes years to fix and were in a bad position dice we’ve been taking steps backwards. We have yet to draft a line who plays the position we drafted him in after Sullivan. Ponder has yet to prove he’s our future QB and with our O line he might end up a bust. Just because he’s smart in school doesn’t mean he’s smart on the field he makes the same mistakes consistently. Now all the talks about us reaching for him makes since he wasn’t projected to go that high just like t jack when chilly reached for him. I’m not taking anything away from Ponder but if Webb could perform better then him behind our O line then theirs no excuse maybe Webb fits our team better then Ponder so why not give him a chance. What is ponderdoing now that Webb couldn’t do last year when he had to step in. I really think we should’ve road Webb for the season and if he failed we could’ve drafted a QB this season look at the position were in now we actually have a chance to get Luck. Our O line won’t change by getting one player. The QB’s I listed either had the careers cut short by injury or constantly face injury and Ponder is known for injuries so who knows what will happen to him all I know is I’m not ready to suck for three to four seasons before we realize our mistakes. Webb fits the team so give him a chance he’s young with potential maybe he’s our true future QB were known for going in the wrong direction its time to change that.

Fire Pagac and make singltary the defensive coordinator he made the 49ers defense good then give Musgrave the boot or make him the QB coach, hire Danny Green or Mike Tice remember we had the top five offenses under them every year because they knew true talent, give Frazier one more season and if he fails then give Danny Green the HC job. Don’t forget to fire Rick Spielman fire him for all the terrible players he made us draft and sign fire him for destroying this team like he did at Miami fire Spielman.

As fans need to become more vocal about our needs, writing haven’t got us nothing nobody reads this but Mike W and he disagree with most of the things we write. If we want Mr. Wilf to feel our frustration and what we want then the best time to do it is during games, we need to start booing this team chant for a GM and fire Spielman and everyone else we want out Mr.Wilf is their every sunday so he will be aware of our frustration towards the peoples he put in charge of running our team. And if that don’t do the job maybe if more of us stop showing up to games he’ll definitely notice the empty seats and for an owner trying to get a new stadium he needs our support right now so we have the upper hand we just have to start realizing that. You can’t own a team with no fan support look at the Jags or Bills the Vikings will always be the Vikings we just need to start letting our action speak more so owners can feel where were coming from. Joe Webb is not the answer stop with that non-sense. I dont care who the quarterback is when you have a horrible offensive line. No secondary defense. Only two playmkers, Harvin and Peterson.

I agree this is the worst defense and offensive line i have ever seen. Get rid of Speilman he obviously doesnt know talent.

  177. By Viking33 on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

I just saw on ESPN officially we have the thrid pick as of today based on the fact the Rams have had an easier schedule to date than us. They have the Steelers and 49ers left while we have the Redskins and Bears – so it may tip to us at the end – if the Colts win again it might get interesting. Having the top pick is a lot of Pressure to have, I don’t know if we can handle it.

  178. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

@Vikings33 you are correct twice. Right now we would have the number 3 pick. As projected right now, however, with the records of both the Rams and Vikes remaining teams, the Vikes have a strength of schedule of about .566 and the Rams have about .588. Even in the worst case scenario for us, if the Rams remaining foes lose all of their games remaining (other than to the Rams of course otherwise the point is moot) and our remaining foes win all of theirs, the Vikes still have the easier schedule by strength of .574 to the Rams .584. So we are assured the number 2 spot if we lose out.

  179. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 19, 2011 | Reply

The colts strength of schedule right now is at .538, so if there is a 3 way tie with them at 2-14 somehow, we won’t be able to get the number one pick.

@Morgan: you are right Webb probably gives us a better chance to win RIGHT NOW because we do not have an offensive line, but that has been the problem with the organization for how many decades now? Patchwork QBs that are here 2 years at a time. We drafted for the future. Ponder has shown enough that he can be a good QB

@Vikings33- I like the idea of the fans’ choice idea of the draft~ One question do we have anyone in charge of player personnel? I like the idea of Frazier being a db coach, who else could do that job effectively? @ Mr Smiff, I’ve realized the Packer formula in the past, too~ I’m in no way, shape or form a cheesehead, their org. know what they are doing, however. They can plug virtually any guy in any position and be effective. I approve of the Marty Shottenheimer for head coach idea. I liked him when he was coaching Kansas City back in the mid 90′s. Studwell could make a fine GM. I’ve been wondering if we need Tice back to coach our o-line. When we finally got one owner of this proud org. nothing else developed from that, sadly. Rudolph, should be more involved in the game. More so than Shianco, I’d say. Packers should fall to an AFC team, hopefully. Via, Ravens? IDK. Gotta run. Thank you to all!!!

I have been a Viks fan since 1975 so I’ve seen many good teams as well as bad ones. I think you ALWAYS have to go with personel who gives you the best chance to win. Regardless of how you draft etc. Then for the coach to say week after week that we need to get Webb more involved AND THEN NOT HAPPEN. I would be satisfied if he got some carries/throws/returns ANYTHING. He gets nothing. What a shame. To see talent waisting away on the bench while our team goes 2-12 just makes no sense. It would be dif if we were 12-2 with lots of talent I would understand riding the bench…..BUT.

Ponder as 3 times the amount of reps and game experience than Ponder but Webb still out plays him. The o-line and defense get thrashed every game because our QB is horrible. Ponder plays poorly for a rookie!

Frazier was right he wanted to sit Ponder for at least one year maybe more. He does have the tools all rookies throw picks. He needs to get bigger and stronger to make it for a 16 week season. We have to be a little patient. He will get stronger and hopefully it helps him get a little more zip on the ball. We really have some good young and in there prime players. This goes back all the way to Culpepper and T-Jack not working out it sets back the franchise even when other areas so strong. Also free agents have hurt us. We fixed alot of problems with it. Sharper, Willaims,Leber, Winfield, Huchinson all really good players but you sign all these guys knowing that in 4 years you will have all these players on a decline and its to many holes to fill at once

Webb? At qb? Good idea for the rest of this dismal season but not for the future. At least he can run away from the rush. Webb is a terrible passer. Was in college and has been in the pros. I posted weeks ago when they benched McNabb that Ponder would not make a difference. A healthy Peyton Manning would not make a difference with this atrocious oline and secondary. Don’t know if Ponder is the future. Nobody should judge him this year though he seems to be getting worse instead of better. Fix the oline first. then we”ll judge. As for Webb at qb, (18 tds and 40 ints in the last 4 years) I do know he is not the future.

No way I’m ready to pull the plug on these guys yet. A coach in his first full year and a bunch of great player in there first, second or third year. The Vikes were a play or two away from beating the Chargers, Bucs, Lions (twice), Chiefs, Packers (first game) and Broncos. 1. A good draft, 2. some free agency moves, 3. another year with a lot of our existing guys having a chance to gell and 4. a few more plays breaking our way and this could be a 10-6 team in a year. We’ve all seen teams go from worst to first in a year. If nothing changes next year, blow it up, but I’d hate to completely overhaul the whole franchise now only to have to go through the learning curve from square one next year. I hope the core of this team is back next season with a litte more experience and some key roster additions.

Anybody who says webb should be the starting qb is out of their minds! the only reason he did well against the lions is they didn’t game plan against him. Watching him throw isn’t a pretty site. I think ponder could do a lot better if he had more than 2 seconds from the snap of the ball to when Loadholdt blows his block and ponder gets sacked. Watch any team with a successfull passing game and you will notice that they all have a good O-line the vikings have a terrible O-line hence terrible passing. Ponder has shown when he has time to view the field he makes the right choices unfortunatly that happens maybe about 1 time every 30 snaps and it only happens because the other teams d-line slipped on the hash marks and Loadholdt thought they had KFC in their back pocket so he jumped on them to get it and they couldn’t get back up Also i thought getting rid of Mckinny would be good but i don’t see how this other clown who took his place has done any better

  217. By Rick on Dec 20, 2011 | Reply

If you ask me i think the vikings should give up on making webb a qb he can’t throw. Find another way to get him out on the field. Then take Claiborne out of LSU (i believe) in your first round pick then take the best available wr/ol/db for the rest of the draft. Also sign the best available ol/wr/db available in FA. Fire pagec cause he is flat out clueless. I would give frazier and musgrave at least 1 more season just because changing either of them out would basically make this year a wasted year in developing ponder (Note sam bradford) Also with any luck the vikings will get the first pick of the draft which they could trade back to gain more picks

  218. By Wayne on Dec 20, 2011 | Reply

Defense, Defense, Defense. You can’t win games when you give up 30 to 40 points. Vikings are scoring 20 to 30 some points in most of their games, but the defense is giving up more points than that. A great defense will help make a great offense. The defensive secondary is hurting greatly to say the least. It does take time to develop a team with new coaches and young players, but 2 and 12 is hard to take. Get the team fired up, I see very little enthusiasim on the side lines from the coaches. Look at the 49er’s. Harbaugh is getting it done and he is a fireball. It is difficult to start fires with wet wood!!!!!

Fire Spielman get a real GM! Musgrave must go this is not high school football. Pagac also try to get the head coach from the rams for DC. There must be a quality OC out there that can use the weapons we have. New GM get the offence some weapons and O-Lineman. Get the Defence play makers on the back end. CB’s,NT,S and maybe a MLB that can stop the run and cover the pass middle of the field if we play that overrated cover 2. We have possibily 8-9 draft picks and some money to spend in F/A this is not rocket science get a clue Spielman.

I think you need to show the whole picture here because you are leaving out the fact that Webb scored 28 TDs rushing/receiving (college)in addition to the #s you threw out. I would not say that Webb will instantly turn us into winners but he would certainly contribute more than Ponder. At this point Ponder SHOULD be better because he has more time/games/reps under his belt than Webb but he is not. This conversation would prolly not be happening if the coaching staff would actually do what they say every Monday “We need to get Joe more involved”. What does it take? Folks seem to have a short memory of some of the clutch throws that Joe made last end of season. Has he thrown some bad ones? Sure has. How many bad ones has Ponder made? Lots. Give the man a chance!!!!!! He has earned total respect from his team mates, is confident yet humble, smart, has a lot of patients, and is backed very publically from Mr Favre (lol). Give him the same ammount of experience/time as Ponder and we would have a leader. If he doesn’t get a fair shake he will leave for a chance to start elsewhere. And I wouldn’t blame him. Our staff is just pathetic!!!! Were we better off with Chilly? I’d rather not think about that buuuttt!

Believe me, if I thought Webb could be the future of this team, I’d be all for it. I just don’t see it happening. I personally think he looks at one read (maybe) then looks to run. I really do want to see him play the last 2 games. He does give the team a spark but just like many backups do, I’m afraid he’d look real good a game or two and once the film on him was out there, go downhill. I like the guy, just don’t think he will ever be starting nfl qb material. If they give him his shot and he continues to get better each game, I’ll be the first one rooting for him. Like I said, I’m not sold on Ponder but it’s tough to judge anybody with this oline. Brady, Rodgers, Manning, the other Manning and Roethlisberger are some of the qb’s that have won superbowls of late. The only “athletic” type qb I can even remember winning a superbowl off the top of my head is Steve Young and he could throw a little too. :) We have the running game. Sure up the oline and db situation and give me a classic drop back pocket passer every time.
