Peterson Limited, Ponder Full Participant In Wednesday Practice

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 14, 2011 – 3:20 pm

The Vikings returned to the practice field on Wednesday morning as they begin on-field preparations for the New Orleans Saints. And with the return to the practice field comes the return of injury reports. It’s mostly good news for the Vikings on the week’s first injury report.

The only player who did not participate in practice was WR Greg Camarillo, who was held out with concussion-like symptoms. Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier said Camarillo came to the team with the symptoms on Tuesday, and he also said that Camarillo will be evaluated throughout the week.

Limited in practice for the Vikings on Wednesday were E.J. Henderson (shoulder), S Jarrad Page (hip) and RB Adrian Peterson (ankle). Frazier that Peterson looks to be much improved from even a week ago and it seems as if the team is optimistic that their star running back will be able to return on Sunday. CB Asher Allen (shoulder) and QB Christian Ponder (hip) were also on the injury report, but both were fall participants and are expected to play on Sunday.

For the Saints, the following players were held out of practice: RB Mark Ingram (toe), LB Jonathan Casillas (knee) and LB Jonathan Vilma (knee). Limited in practice was DE Turk McBride (ankle) and full participants in practice were CB Tracy Porter (wrist), DT Sedrick Ellis (hamstring), TE Jimmy Graham (back) and LB Scott Shanle (shoulder).

I hope AP is healthy enogh to play !!! Will Ponder start if healthy or is it Webb who will guide the team this week ?

  2. By Rogerthevikefan on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

I think the injury was hurting Ponder more then he let on and that is why he played like CR @P. Ash is just that burnt all the time even if healthy.

Well, it still is Fall for another week, and it’s actually still looking like Fall in Minnesota (BIG difference from the norm!)…so I guess you could say that everyone who participated today qualified as a “fall participant.”

This is the game we will all remember as the turning point toward our Superbowl dynasty.AP will rush for 130 yards, and Ponder will throw for 400. Vikings stun the Saints in a huge upset. You heard it here first.

ESPN First Take is an example of the the NFL’s fakery.

Skip Bayless must have it in his contract to argue with anyone and everyone.

Notice how all they really talk about on that show is the QB.
A little bit of defense, some WR, some RB, but mostly QB.

Have they EVER talked about offensive line? (I have only watched the show a handful of times over the years.)

WILL TIM TEBOW AND TOM BRADY HAVE A BETTER MATCHUP THIS TIME AROUND? H Y P E and ridiculousness!!!

I suggest that THEIR thinking is similar to that of the average fan, and THE VIKINGS EXECUTIVE BRANCH including Spielman!!!

    HIRE A GENERAL MANAGER!!!

  17. By Frederick Jones on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

    @Vikingsfool,

Saying that writing HIRE A GENERAL MANAGER!!! takes a lot of time is just an excuse on your part. It takes a lot more time to look up statistics and biographies and such.

It actually takes less time to do it the way I do, but who feels committed when you are 2-11.

  18. By Frederick Jones on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

If Spielman is the “defacto general manager” then we might a s s u m e that he is responsible for ALL draft picks, trades, free agency, etc.

There is nothing more important than the level of talent on the field, and IT is missing at many positions.

Yes, he made some good decisions in obtaining Peterson, and Harvin. But he also selected Rudolph and Gerhart, which were unnecessary picks. They should have been DBs or OLs. And the handling of Moss, and Rice was poor, at best!!!

  19. By Frederick Jones on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

At Shawn, an INT is short for Interception. lol

I do believe that we would get more of those if Marcus Sherels played more.

Some say Sherels has been beaten for catches, but I have watched a good portion of the games, and I have NEVER seen him get beat for even one catch!!!

  20. By Frederick Jones on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

Sherels has not done well on KOR, but is adequate on Punt Returns.

  25. By TITANIUM TITUS on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

Our offense has picked it up the past few weeks— and what I really like about these past few games is how we battle back from a deficit— in all the years I have followed the Vikes, they tended to be a team that once down, did not do well coming back. This team has shown progression as of late–

  26. By TITANIUM TITUS on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

I say bring in Favre next year to coach Ponder and Webb– then bring in Moss for his retirement years and shore up the O Line and strengthen the secondary– that would make us very competitive.

  27. By ursus on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

This is the first time the Vikes have had the Saints at home since before the blatant Favre bashing by their defense during the 09 NFC championship game. Boy would I love to be at the dome this weekend. . . . .

  28. By DRS on Dec 14, 2011 | Reply

The way I see it, Vikings will be up by three in the 4th quarter with 3 minutes to go, when they will lose the ball on the 1-yard line about to score and the Saints will run it back for a touchdown, winning the game, Saints by four, that is how this year has gone. Here is to hope. Go Vikings and get your third win.

I like what I am reading. True fans are coming out of the woodwork. DRS, you need to stop with the negative scenarios. This team of ours has shown heart– six turnovers and being slaughtered on the road, but able to come within inches of winning the game last week? And without AP. And with our backup QB who is only in his second year and hardly had played in any capacity all season? Seriously– look at Denver and Oakland? This team is fighting till the end. If Frazier has learned from this season and we improve the positions that are weak next year with new personnel- we should be a very good team next season.

I mean to say look at the Denver and Oakland games where we battled — especially how we came back at Oakland– even in Atlanta, we had a chance at the end. This team is improving– early in the season we had big leads, but we had no fighting spirit in the second half–

TITANIUM TITUS, that may be true, you must admit that it has been that type of season. I am not saying it is anyone’s fault, the team has found ways to fu the chance to win most of the games so far. Having fought hard after you have fu is nice, thou they would have not had to fight so hard if they would have done their jobs in the first place and not fu-ed. I feel the Vikings would be contenders now if the team had done their jobs in the first place. If you are a good team, you make do with what you have and not make mistakes. What gets me is they have been a team that could have won most of the games they have played so far, but have found ways not to win on and off the field.

Hate to be a Debbie downer fellas, but ewwwwweeeee the Saints are going to light us up like the 4th of July! They have as much or more offensive fire power than the Pack….with a better D!

@Fredrick Jones and the Host of Fan Blogers:

Percy Harvin is one of the most outstanding young players to get to the Vikings roster. He’s Strong can shrug off tacklers and run like a plow horse he has what it takes to win and his attitude shows it. These Things also apply to All-Day Adrain Peterson,We also need to put Joe Webb in at QB for the rest of the season so then the coaches have a good look at his talents.
But if we are going to win in 2012 we need to do the things that follow so we can draft an awesome list of players in 2012 but we have to work fast and it’s up to the fans that are at the few remaining home games.
We need to Stand united and present a petition to the Wilf Family with a list of Good GM candidates and head coaching candidates to even make them listen to reason you need at least 30,000 to 50,000 names of fans that want change within the organization. then maybe the Wilf Family would really heed the Fans but just Blogging it won’t help but you guys are true Fans just like I am, Distribute the petition around the stadium during the last homes games and I’ll give you my permission to sign my name to it just let me know in a blog reponse Fredrick, DRS, or Titanium Titus for I am a die hard Vike Fan of 50 years.

Dont AP, we need him healthy enough to trade him, We have dire needs that he cant overcome, use him to aquire a draft picks and get some defensive backs, a deep threat WR.
This team needs to think way beyond tomorrow. Ziggy stop trying to plug holes in this sinking ship with bubble gum.
Hire someone who can get you the players that will build a winner, what your doing now is not getting it done and you wont win any fans if you stay on the same path your on.

    To Fredrick Jones:

Petition the Wilf Family circulate a Petition during the last few home games that has a good list of GM candidates and Head Coaching Candidates. Such as Jon Gruden, Steve Marriucci, Denny Green, Tony Dungy, Brian Billick, or some other strong minded coach maybe even Chip Kelly of the Oregon Ducks his teams have fire in their bellies just as had the privious named coaches. they all can coach winners so my friends it’s up to you to get the word out to the Wilf Family in a Petitons as you said you would be willing to listen to a good Idea or two.
It takes just 30,000 to 50,000 names on it.

I will say it again…This is the most exciting 2-11 team in the history of the NFL!
My Holiday wishes for all my fellow Viking fans:
    1. You understand this is, at the base level, entertainment!
    2. The Vikings beat the Saints!
    3. You all are happy with that win :)
    4. All of your concerns-about the team- are addressed by next year!
    5. The Vikings hire a GM ( especially for you Fred :) )
AND FINALLY… You all have HAPPY HOLIDAYS & A WINNING NEW YEAR! Sincerely, The Montana Viking :)

Isn’t it funny how many coaches have left the vikings, got head coaching jobs and then won a super bowl.
That alone should tell you that there is a problem up front.
The viking offense is playing much better without AP. Feature Harvin, he’s a bigger play maker. AP is a weapon but needs to be used without 8 men in the box. Toby has been running as good as AP the past few weeks and Harvin is the reason for it. Reduce all the three and outs that you get from AP running all those negative carries. That will equal more offensive opportunities for the vikes and less for the apposing offense

What are you drinking in Montana? Tebrew? Vikings going to beat the Saints? Fred Jones will stop yelling and shouting for a General Manager? The Sun will rise in the West?

@Dennis…I agree with your comments 10000Percent..

The coachs always set up Peterson behind the QB what looks like about 10-15 yards back.. By the time Pete gets up to the line, he is met by a towering 500 lb Line Backer…geez!

  73. By KLAWZ on Dec 15, 2011 | Reply

Hey heres an idea….dont have him run up the middle… LIKE HE DOES EVERY TIME…..MAN! Teams can see us commin a mile away! Surprised he didnt get hurt before this and surprised he actually gets as many yards as he does……..

It will be interesting to see if Ponder shows his Metal and bounces back from last week. I want to see some fire from the young QB! I see Jared is fired up for this game – GOOD! AP and MR P (Mr P =Percy, because that kid is a Man) should give the Saints a What Dat on Sunday. We can score points on just about anyone, and have for the most part. I loved to see the Hit our secondary laid on MegaTron run last week – compliments of Mistral Raymond and J Sanford – that was a good one. Would like to see some more of that!!

How about hiring Rahim Morris as the D coordinator when he gets fired? Can’t hurt that is for sure.

Kudos to the offensive line in the last game for blowing open some big holes for Gerhart ! Add Kalil or Reiff to the Line to make a sound draft pick.

  83. By animal26 on Dec 16, 2011 | Reply

This is off topic, but good news everyone. Matt Kalil is coming out for the draft. Just have to hope the Vikings end up with the 2nd pick in the draft. hopefully the Vikings will be able to draft him in the 1st round.

  84. By animal26 on Dec 16, 2011 | Reply

will draft him in the first round*

The Vikings are the best 2-11 team in the history of the NFL. C’mon you guys, look at the facts. We have lost 8 games by 7 pts or less. 5 of those losses were on the final play of the game. So, the facts are, we could easily be 10-3 and that’s with a rookie QB and also AP missing some games. If we could just get a couple of good DB’s we can be right in the mix of things next year. I’ve seen a lot of bad QB’s on this team over the years, but guys, this one, Ponder is a keeper. As he matures, those mistakes will go away because he has some great skills that we haven’t seen since Fran Tarkenton. And that is , he is athletic, is smart, has a good arm, but most impressive is his ability to NEVER give up! I think we are just 2 or 3 of the right players away from a very very good ballclub. Don’t give up on these guys ! It’s obvious the way they keep palying that they haven’t given up. GOOOO VIKINGS !

  86. By SmileyStar on Dec 16, 2011 | Reply

@vikingfan4life Your right Ponder is a keeper, I mean with all those close games, if our defense was better we would have won. (sarcasm) Of course if Ponder didn’t turn the ball over so much, we would have won most of those games. It’s a little hard to win a game when the QB is scoring points for the opposing team . I really don’t see anything impressive with Ponder. 1 and 7 is not good. I still can’t quite wrap my head around why Webb was not the starter this year…but the thought has crossed my mind that they are working on Webb for the long term starting position and Ponder is just there to be a punching bag.

  87. By Regfan on Dec 16, 2011 | Reply

Instead of Peterson up the middle for 1 yard, how about Webb around the edge for 90

  88. By Deertracks on Dec 16, 2011 | Reply

@Regfan: THAT would be worth waiting for!!

  89. By Puckertrucker on Dec 16, 2011 | Reply

    Hey Fans:

The Best thing for this Team right now is giving J.Webb and C.Ponder a true fight for #1 QB next year let them both play 2 preseason games each give them equal time playing with the 1st team and get some better O-Line Players, and D-Line players, Cornerbacks, linebackers, and better Wideouts. but most of all get a better coaching staff on Offense and Defense. other wise we will not get many more wins than we did this year.

    To the Fans:
The only thing we are going to see this weekend is Ponder throwing an out pattern to our wideouts and the Saints taking it back to the house. I have watched with concern in Ponders playing he telegraphs ever pass he makes and He doesn’t have a strong enough arm to throw back accross the field. We put Webb in last week and He brought us to within one last play of winning. In my estimation that is why he is not playing this week he plays to well and Frazier wants us to lose. Otherwise Frazier would have started Webb at QB he is a better option against the Saints than ponder at this juncture at least we know he can run for TDs at the slightest hint of trouble with the defense gettiing to him. Don’t get me wrong but Ponder was thrown in the fracus to soon he may be the future of this team, but Webb hasn’t even had a good chance to show just what he is capable of doing. Even in the games he played last year and of those he at least won three games. I think he should be given a break and a chance to show just what he can do against the saints this week.
