Vikings Arrive At Ford Field

Posted by Mike Wobschall on December 11, 2011 – 9:43 am

The Vikings have arrived at climate-controlled Ford Field in chilly downtown Detroit for today’s NFC North showdown with the Lions. The picture below is the view from the KFAN broadcast booth, where I’ll be sitting next to play-by-play talent Paul Allen and elite football mind and radio analyst Pete Bercich to co-host the vikings.com Live Game Chat. Be sure to join us for the chat, which will start right around kickoff (12:00 p.m. CT).

Typically at this time of the year it’s the Vikings who are making a push for the playoffs, with Detroit playing the role of spoiler. But this year the Lions are on the playoff path and the Vikings have an opportunity to play spoiler.

The big issue surrounding the Vikings right now is the status of two key offensive players – RB Adrian Peterson and QB Christian Ponder. Peterson has missed the last 2 games with an ankle injury and Ponder suffered a hip injury during last week’s game against the Broncos. Both players were listed as questionable – meaning a 50-50 chance of playing – on the Friday injury report.

The Lions are a bit banged up, too, with several defensive players either already declared out or listed as doubtful or questionable. Also, the Lions might be missing Kevin Smith, who has filled in nicely for starter Jahvid Best. Stay tuned to vikings.com because we’ll have all the inactives at 10:30 a.m. CT.

:( I was kind of hoping to see Joe Webb start today, create some competition at QB; Ponder is pretty good I guess but I think it would do favors for him to come to the understanding that he isn’t guarenteed the starting position at QB on this team just because he was drafted in the first round.

We shouldn’t win the game. We’re too far off to be any kind of a meaningful spoiler. The Lions and Bears are in their own league now.

I like Webb but he right now is just a huge arm. Ponder has showed alot of promise and with a good (not great) OLine he could win alot of games.

A interesting draft day trade idea would be the Dolphins trading LT Justin Long and a 1st or 2nd to the Vikings for their 1st rounder. The Phins could draft Qb Robert Griffin III and the Vikings could draft CB Morris Claibourn in the 1st or CB Stephen Gilmore in the 2nd while getting one of the best young LT in Long.
