Sorry to hear of the loss, I’m gonna watch it anyhow. Sounds like it was a good game. Congrats to all the players that gave it their all, sounds like we had some good plays.

  11. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

Musgrave is such an idiot for real, Frazier better get rid of him. Even the announcers were like “why aren’t Kyle Rudolph and Percy Harvin on the field” when we were at 3rd and goal and Ponder ended up having to just throw it away, yeah lets take out all of our talent Musgrave good idea

  12. By CaribooBill on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

Can you please expain why Chris Cook is on the roster and not playing? I know about the legal issue, but why can’t he play?

  13. By Mike Wobschall on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

I never said Joe Webb couldn’t play WR. In fact, I think Webb could become a good WR. But a lot of people think it’s as easy as one week playing QB and then the next week going out there and playing WR. It’s just no that easy. Also, Webb played WR on Sunday on less than a handful of snaps. That’s a hugely different story than playing WR regularly, which Webb most certainly did not do on Sunday.

It was great to see the Vikings get Webb out on the field in some capacity and I hope they continue to do so as the season goes on.

  14. By Mike Wobschall on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

He can’t play because he has to focus on his legal issues right now. It’s more important for him to get that straightened out than it is for him to play football.

  15. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

He showed he can play better than most of our receivers, Musgrave just doesn’t know how to utilize talent whatsoever, it needs to be his first and last year here

The Green Bay Packers are 12 and 0. Who would have thought.

  17. By Mike Wobschall on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

I don’t agree on Musgrave. I think he’s done a nice job with the offense since Ponder has been in the game. Percy’s production has gone up each since Ponder has been in the lineup, and today we had three offensive players tally career highs – Ponder in passing yards, Harvin in receiving yards and Gerhart in rushing yards. We scored 32 points today on offense, that is enough to win ballgames.

  18. By Viking33 on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

They can’t remove Cook from the 53 man roster because he would never clear waivers to get to the practice squad, and they did not get a special excemption for him, so he has to stay on the 53. If he clears up his legal mess and gets his head on straight he will be fine.

When will the Vikings get a player who can cover the other team’s receivers?

When will the Vikings get O-Lineman and when will the Vikings get a GM?

  20. By alex on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

How many times is ponder going to be hit hard before the teams tries new Offensive linemen? And does the secondary actually plan to cover the receivers in the next game? Or are they going to leave them wide open again?

  21. By Viking33 on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

The guys played their hearts out today, hard to say our defense needs to get better with the depleted secondary we are playing with. A lot of miscues at some bad times, led to big plays by the Broncos. Harvin showed he was a beast again, and Gerhart played a good game. I didn’t understand that personnel package either with 8 seconds to go…..guess I never will though.

  22. By Puckertrucker on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

    Mr. Frazier:

I’d like to know why you had Ponder throw an interception on the first play of the last drive of the game with only what 1min. 44secs. left, you could have disquised the loss a little better than such a blaitant interception like he did. I’m glad that Ponder set a rookie team record, but if your going to throw the game away why not lose in over time. Also my brother from indiana would like you to play Joe Webb at QB next week and if you lose the game he said he would come to Minneapolis and buy you a steak dinner, but if the team won with Webb at the helm, he would like two tickets to a home game of his choice. He thinks the team could win with Webb playing QB.

The one and only PuckerTrucker!!!!!!!! Skoll Viking Fans.

  23. By CanadianVF on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

I really hope that this latest incident with Cook will be a big wake up call for him. But those charges sounded pretty serious and he may not get the chance to make ammends. Of all the things that have happened during the season, I think this was one that really hurt our secondary because he was really coming into his own as a shutdown guy which we desperately need.

  24. By DRS on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

But Mike Wobschall we need a defense that can stop the other team from scoring more point then us! Do not tell me that they did a good job to win games, if this would have been the case we would be winning now.
When will the Vikings stop making dumb mistakes, when will they start play like pro’s and not the like the practice team they are now? When?????

  25. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

You can say what you want about Musgrave, he does not have an imagination. He is only letting Ponder throw since AP is out, if he would have let him go earlier in the year and open things up for AP things might be different

  26. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

But that’s hardly our biggest problem with Griffen deciding not to cover receivers repeatedly

@ Mike stop making up excuses if the coaches thought Sanford was just a special teams player he would not be battling for the starting spot or be on the field. How are we lucky for having him what has he done that’s so special for you to say that. You just like sweeping our problems under the rug its the same thing you did last season with the Childress situation you backed him up even while every fan wanted him out then when he got fired you stop supporting him. I’m a true fan and I want to see my team succeed if you don’t want the same just say that because you continue to support the negatives.

  29. By CanadianVF on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

@ DRS, I think what he was getting at was that the offense did a good job today and if our defensive effort was better we would have won. I do think our offense was impressive, the last number of weeks that Denver defense has played extremely well, true Von Miller didn’t play today but they have a very good defense and we lit them up.

  30. By DRS on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

Mike W. when will the Vikings become a team and not a bunch of over paid under achieving football players? When will the coaches teach their players discipline on and off the field? Or are our coaches unable to teach at all? Is it not time to look at what this team is doing and think about a new way of doing things?

  31. By Viking33 on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

We could get that Awesome Canadien League Free Agent WR this year – I think his name is Emmanuel Arceneux, or something like that. I heard he is awesome, lets get that guy!!! What?? We already did get him last year and he has been on our Practice Squad all year??? Well I hope we won the pretigious award for having the best Practice Squad in the League……..

  32. By CanadianVF on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

@ Twoodsnvikes, until we get our system we play in the secondary rectified on Defense it won’t matter who we draft or what free agents we bring in. Yes we definitely lack talent but the zone defense thing we play is useless. There is a reason we have been near the bottom of the league in pass defense for a number of years and I think it is combination of talent and system.

The offense did play well today – the Defense and the Ponder INT’s lead to our demise. We have no secondary though, that is apparent when Tebow throws for his Career high in passing too. Ponder stayed in there like a champ though, he was beat up bad especially in that first half.

  36. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

@canadian: It wouldn’t matter what system they are in, Sapp, Griffen, Sandford, Johnson, A. Allen, couldn’t cover anyone and would never EVER be considered a good DB, end of story. I agree the system 5ucks, but we need talent

  40. By Twoodsnvikes on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

The one major problem I have with Frazier is it seems like he just said to Pagac, “here’s my playbook, run these plays”. Which worked well enough for us in years past with different talent and a great Dline, but he needs to get a DC in there that will have his own system and is known for his great defensive schemes

Ponder has looked good for a first year qb..qb in the nfl is one of the toughest positions to play as a first year player….next four games will be a learning experience for some of our young players…sadly the secondary will have a couple of much worse games than today…we are looking at 3-13 i believe with a win over the bears…still no excuse to go to this type of season from 2 years ago…bad management decisions should cost spielman his job…

  44. By John on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

@ Twoodnvikes your right about that but its clear that only us fans notice it. Asher Allen has never been good for us but he’s still around, Sanford was ok on special teams but he became the coaches excuse for not signing or drafting a safety and he sucks, benny sapp is our best corner on the field but couldn’t get play time in KC and got cut in Miami so that shows how horrible we are. Abdullah got a concussion for making no contact these guys are soft just like their Head coach Frazier.

  45. By CanadianVF on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

@ Twoodsnvikes, well we couldn’t defend the pass when he was the Defensive coordinator aswell, so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised we are getting the same results. A few years ago it probably didn’t seem as bad because we had better talent back there which goes back to your original point.

    M.Wobschall:

What do you think of Griffins play at Cornerback today? I thought his play has gone to the dogs and that the Vikings should release him and get some better corners than what you have playing now even Asher Allen isn’t worth a hoot. get rid of the dead wieght players and coaching staff, hire a good GM and maybe Brian Billick,Jon Gruden, Steve Mariucci, or Tony Dungy even Denny Green “thought they were what they were.” And he had fire in his guts but all you see on the side lines from the coaches is dead pan looks and not fire. go a different direction next year or the Vikings will be perenial wannabes.

Repeatedly firing the coach is the easiest way to lose in the NFL.

I will say it again I think we have enough talent that if we have a great draft we can turn this thing around quick and get back in the hunt. But the problem is have a great draft. I am just not sold on the coaching staff or our people who will be making the decisions at the draft table. I think we need a sweeping change to get there. My vote is for bringing in Cowher as the G M and Steve Fisher as the head coach. But realistically we probably cannot afford them even if they would come. O well I can dream. Peace Out !

Remember football is played in the trenches.

The above has been the saying since football began.

Trying to utilize a 550 pound QB when your linemen only weigh 98 pounds will not work, no matter how talented the QB !

And…if the RB weighs 650 pounds and the linemen average 98 pounds, sorry you’ll be no where man ! ! !

You can draft, trade, and buy 18,000 defensive linemen, THAT WILL NOT GET YOU A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

FIRE ALL OF THE VIKINGS VICE PRESIDENTS AND HIRE SOMEONE WHO WILL PUT THE TEAM BEFORE HIS EGO ! ! !

    HIRE A GENERAL MANAGER!!!

  56. By robert hurst on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

the vikings secondary has to be the worst in the nfl, and has been for years. who ever is in charge of talent and scouting should be fired, and get someone who can analyze players and make smart draft choices.
you can blame all the different players, but it starts with the organization having people who know what they are doing for player development.

At the end of the game, was it ever considered to allow the Broncos to just score a touchdown in order to get the ball back with over a minute left… instead of allowing them a field goal with no time left on the clock?

I know there is a chance of a block or fumbled snap or missed kick, but it seems like we would have a better chance to tie it and go to overtime than to rely on a missed FG attempt.

At least, all these losses … there is good potential for the near future and a better position for the draft next year. So, I’m looking forward to this team.

For all those who said Adrian peterson is the heart of our team and that I was dumb for suggesting that he should be traded, How many games could we have won if our defensive backs were even just good, they are terrible but we cant get any good ones with our draft pick of late.
Now we have Ponder as a Long Term QB, trade peterson for a first and second round pick in the upcoming draft. We have a strong back in Gerhardt, Booker and King on the practice squad. Use the draft to get a O line man, and the rest spent on Secondary players who can cover more than the ground they are standing still on.
Move Webb to WR fulltime and emergency QB, with the emergence of #19, Harvin and Burton we could have a good core with a deep threat if used to its potential.
We would have a solid team, but trying to focus on one player such as Peterson limits a team with what they can do.

Trade him while he can get us something for the future of this team.

Pagac & Musgrave are not doing well. Are the WIlf’s going to fire them? Can Frazier last past the final game of the season?

If the keep them next season at this time they will probably be 0-12 instead & then will be fired.

  84. By Animal26 on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

it’s inconceivable to think you’re going to have a greater chance of scoring when you take out 2 of your best players out of the game on an obvious passing situation. Frazier basically set Ponder up to fail in that situation. What was Frazier’s reasoning behind that move, because it simply made no sense

Believe it or not Brad Childress built a powerhouse football team and now Frazier and the staff have ripped that team apart I supported Childress every body else wanted him to be fired just because he had a bad season but that is old news. The Vikings need to fire Frazier because this Vikings team is in the worst mess that i have ever seen them in.

    Mike,
I thought the offense was finally beginning to click between execution and play calling. The one exception was the red zone play with Harvin & Rudolph on the sidelines. If we can eliminate turnovers we win.
Defensively I’m mystified. It’s obvious that we have no replacement for Pat Williams and our run defense suffers for it. Lots of missed tackles by the Linebackers because of overpursuit–pressing to hard?
However, the Secondary–yikes! I don’t think it’s the schemes or Pagac. Cedric Griffith cannot play 5 yards underneath the receiver even if he does have safety help–that’s technique. Jamarca Sanford looked absolutely lost out there. The only bright spot was that I saw Mistral Raymond flying around everywhere. I didn’t see him hit anybody, but at least he was in the picture. An experienced safety–a hitter–could improve this secondary tomorrow. We could sure use a Darren Sharper–now.

Good news everyone – By virtue of a change in strength of schedule, the Vikings just moved into the 2nd position of the draft! It may not change much in who we draft, but it gives substantially more leverage in an early trade. Supposedly, the #2 pick in the draft has a value of about 16% more than the #3 pick.

When will the Vikings learn how to pick up the blitz; when will they learn how to tackle? As far as the defensive coordinator and special teams coaches go; they are unspeakable!

Why is Leslie Frazier on the side lines shaking his head like he does not know what to do? I as a fan can shake my head and say “oh no”.; not the head coach on the side line. When will Frazier learn how to make game time adjustments to win the game?

The man running this thing won’t answer these questions

I said the vikes should of picked up offensive lineman instead of rudolph and gebhart

How many offensive lineman that are either a 1st or 2nd round draft do the vikings need (I think two)
If chris cook comes back we will only need one more corner (a free agent or 2nd or third round pic)
the other guy with the knee issues becomes a safety

which means we need one more safety although I think mistrial will train hard all yr and get NFL Good

on defense we need one defensive tackle

as far as wide out webb can probably play wide out hes 6 3 runs a 4.45 and can jump not sure if he can catch

really happy with sherels he has amazing moves and quickness as return man

trade gebhart for a first or 2nd round pic if you can

we have booker and a guy on practice squad

and get the canadian wide out bring him up too

anybody with a clue about safeties and corners please inform me

again the guy with the knee operations move him to safety

if cook comes back we need one young strong corner and one more safety

I think mistrial will train all year and get better and better

  93. By DWang on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

What’s Sherels doing returning kickoffs? I realize that with AP out they wanted to keep Booker fresh to take snaps for Gerhart or in case Gerhart goes down, but I’d rather have Camarillo downing punts in the endzone then seeing Sherels get dropped at the 10.

    Dear Mike W.
With all the Turmoil that the Vikings have experienced this season.. the losses, the arrests, the dud-playcalling, the obvious lack of over-all talent for all three phases of the team…. DO you agree, with what many fans think, that the Vikings should prusue a qualifying candiate for a true GM position?? And weather you do or do not.. would you at least agree that it would be a move to help position the Vikings to move in the right direction for a future where the winning ways return and presist?
One last question.. Are you aware of when Rick Speilmen took over the Drafting process for the Vikings and how many players drafted that still hold rooster spots.. no practice squad players.. and which round they were draft??…
I only ask because it seems that Rick has been arround for what ??..?? 6Years and i can’t remember the last quality 3rd, 4th, 5th round pick the Vikings have selected that has made a lasting IMPACT on the team…. which leads me to believe he doesnt do a great job evaluating collage talent and how it well translate to the Pros and more importantly how these players would FIT into the Vikings offensive and defensive systems??…. Only a few stars drafted AP/Harvin/Kyle R…. J.Allen(Trade) in recent memory.. not enough to justify Quality drafting.. 1st rounds and 2nd rounders are SUPPOSE to upgrade your team period.. it’s in the later rounds where teams turn average roosters into Championship caliber roosters…. Would like the Vikings to beable to do that this coming offseason where they should be in great positions EACH and every round to get very good talent barring bone-head trades.. such as the one for TobyG/T.Jack/Moss…
PS No offense meant for Toby, but the Vikings simply needed something better then a back up at where you were drafted..
    Thanks Mike V.W.

Doesn’t anybody see how TERRIBLE the number 23 Griffin is? He can’t tackle and appears to be lost on EVERY play. The odds of stopping a drive with a zone defense obviously isn’t working. After a team gets past Jared Allen, it’s almost a guarentee that they will score. Our defensive is pathetic. What happened to our Linebackers for god sake. I would fire the ENTIRE coaching staff and EVERY defensive player except number 69 next season. What ANOTHER disappointing season. After 43 years I’m tired of losing. Come on man!

What was up with the secondary in this game? I don’t think there was one play where they were on coverage and actually doing their job. Backup or not, that was absolutely ridiculous.

  101. By vike0din on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

@twoodsvikes, I like option 1, I think we need finnegan and landry is also a great pickup, the o-line needs young talent and the secondary needs some established players, we already have some emerging talent (sherels, raymond, burton, maybe cook if he isn’t convicted, and i was proud of benny sapp yesterday) I only ask don’t we need a center?

  102. By DrinkHeavyVikingFans on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

Forget the OL for a second, which has been unable to pick up simple blitzes for years now (just ask Brett Favre)…but you would think that with guys like Frazier and Singletary as coaches, we would at least see signs of an aggressive, bust-your-face-up defense. THEY PLAYED IN THE 46 DEFENSE FOR GOD SAKES! Instead we see weak cover-2, defensive linemen blowing gap responsibilities, linebackers who can’t wrap up and tackle and a secondary that isn’t even in the picture frame on most plays, let alone big ones. Frazier, Singletary and co. have not been able to teach or inspire this team on either side of the ball. This team plays afraid to lose every weekend and it’s not just because of talent. These guys have been playing football their whole life. They were the best athletes in their town and state. You can’t tell me they are all so bad that they are uncoachable. So C’mon Leslie, if you want to stay in this job, grab the coaches and team by the throat! Go Vikes!

@ PuckerTrucker.. I was just thinkin about Dungy, and Billick being coaches for us last night, I really miss Tomlin, he knew how to prepare a defense and discipline as well~ I was also wondering if Singletary was still a coach for us… I hear he is. Before the p/u of Ponder I was pumped about some possible trick plays that could actually work…yia options, reversals, and/or wildcat formations. It stumps me that the Vikes, coaches, and org. in my mind were hardly ready for this year~ For years and years it seems that most players on this team are playing for themselves. There is little teammindedness at hand. That is a horsesh!t way to look at things~ You’ll never win games with that mindset~ Maybe I’ll have more later~

Nice to see some emotion out of Frazier in the post game presser – you have to look close to see it but it is there. It was disgust in his defensive secondary, I for one an tired of hearing every week the quote from the in game announcers “You see in the Cover 2 Defense there is the void in coverage between the Linebackers and Safety’s……blah blah blah” Everyone knows this Defense – You want to know what really wins Championships in this league – INNOVATION AND DIVERSITY!! Going against the grain is risky, but when it works it is BRILLIANT, just ask Walsh / Bellichick / Parcells and now Fox(Tebow) Doing what no one else is doing and keeping the other team guessing = HUGE ADVANTAGE!!! Offensively and Defensively

  107. By NDVike on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

I tend to agree with soldier. Look at Green Bay, how do they find these RB’s who contribute big time. Starks and that Saene dude yesterday. AP is the greatest, but he can’t carry the whole team on his back. Ponder will be a great QB. He has made some mistakes, but he is tough, smart, athletic and resilient. There are a lot of RB’s out there who can do the job is my point.
One note to Musgrave: if I am on defense, it’s so incredibly obvious when the Vikes are going to run. I thought you were supposed to be so creative? Rudolph – he is another Witten, Gronkowski…he can be a difference maker. One play a game??? Come on man

I think I could pass for over 300 yards against this Pee Wee secondary.
Taking veterans isn’t this answer either.
Go into the draft with the mind frame of drafting some talent in the secondary.
Also Ponder cant do it, no excuse for those 2 ints he threw. Both were at critical times in the game, not too mention the fumble in the red zone.
This team is just bad, face up to it. In which what i’m triing to do,just deal with reality.

Hey we didnt lose because Ponder threw an interception the last minute, we lost because our defense is terrible. A rookie quarterback is going to make mistakes and in my opinion is looking very good for only starting 5 games. Look around and the other rookie quarterbacks in the league.

He already looks better than McScabb every did.

Remember he doesnt have any weapons but Percy and he still have over 300 yards!

i know the staff probably never reads these comments but what a joke frazer is. he’s excited about everything even though we have lost every game except for two. we have a chance of getting an amazing coach that could take us to superbowl and we stick with another brad childress. come on man!!! we don’t need a sissy as a coach who thinks everything is ok and dances around the questions. we haven’t done anything this year our whole team is rudolph, harvin, peterson and jared allen. and last but not least get a g.m. and get rid of speilman he’s another wussy. take a look at his track record with miami. they canned him after a year because he made that team go down the toilet with his bad drafting and horrible choices. we all saw the mcnabb choice and picking washed up qb;s or old men over 35. him and frazer don’t even know what a football is. what a joke, no wonder our fan base is dropping and people laugh. clean house!!!!

  116. By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

Uh, yeah, let’s trade AP for a couple of draft picks, that way when he plays us he can set NEW single-game rushing records against his former team. THAT should be some kind of record in itself!

Better idea, let’s have a yard sale and get rid of the used up secondary, and buy some talented CBs and Safeties, then get back to the playoffs next year.

  117. By Dave on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

I understand we will have to live with Frazier and Musgrave for another year but what is the likely hood of Singletary being promoted to Def Coordinator. Also, what about moving Musgrave to the Crow’s nest?

I know the Vikings have a number one draft pick. Do they have a number two pick or did they lose that to New England in the Randy Moss deal? Can you post what pick they have currently. I feel with the players they have now, a good draft this year should put them in a great position for next year.

So let’s see it took Green Bay 50 seconds to go 80 yds, We have a min. 40 sec we make one play an are done!! We are so far away from GB it will take 3-4 yrs an some injuries to GB players to have a chance, An in 3-4 yrs Peterson will be done with us, Allen will be done, Harvin will be done, The chemistry is just so wrong should have had a rookie 2 yrs ago then they would all be in sinc today!! So sit back an enjoy 3rd or 4th place for a couple more yrs!!! The bright spot we will have good draft picks for the next 3-4 yrs!!!

The vikings Suck but i still like then they should get these players so they can be good in 2012 matt hasselbeck QB and get Sidney rice back WR and Santonio Holmes WR and draft Jonathan Martin OT and they will be pretty good in 2012

  122. By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Dec 5, 2011 | Reply

Stani, we are scoring enough points. We just can’t stop the other team from scoring. That means our defense needs to be fixed, not our offense.

What happened in ’98? We set a single-season record for points, and we lost it all at the end. Same thing in 2000, the Giants beat the &&&& out of us because they figured out our secondary was Swiss cheese, and they lit us up through the air. Guess what? We’re STILL using the same coverage scheme. It doesn’t matter how many points we score if we can’t stop the other team from scoring.

I think that we will have a shot at Finnigan and Porter. I also think that McKenzie would fit in this system we as well. I dont for see us getting Lick in this draft we have the second selection in the draft right now any ways we need to think hard. I think we could us Malcom Floyd in this offense as well. The Chiefs will resign Bowe so count him off the list i think that if we focus on these we will do just fine. Also pursue Deshaun Jackson and Asenta Samuels as well they wont be with the eagles next year.Forte would be a good back up to All Day Adrian if he dont get a new contract. we need to focus on our DBs this year work them in and fix the problem or i will apply for the Head coaching job next season.

@NorthwoodsVikesFan, I hear ya ’98 and ’00 were not real cool~ I wish the Vikes could have good balance on defense, as well as offense. From what I remember we’ve always been lop-sided, one way or another~

  126. By NorthwoodsVikesFan on Dec 6, 2011 | Reply

Yup Jeremy, For about 15 years it’s been all about the offense, drafting positions where we already had good strength.

It’s fun to watch AP run, and it would be exciting to see more Randy Moss-type deep TDs, but we’re scoring enough points now, and history has proven time and time again that defense wins games.

Ponder has all the potential to be our QB of the future, so we shouldn’t even waste any thought of drafting another QB.

DBs, O-Line, THEN add a deep threat WR.

And yes, I do like what I see from, Ponder~ The Vikings org. shouldn’t have to put winning on such few shoulders~
