Looks like we will see how well the secondary looks without Asher Allen. I didn’t hear if it was injury related, he did get an injury last game.

I think the Vikes have a great chance to win today. If they don’t do anything good it’s defend against the run. Tackle well & they’ll win.

Good idea for a poll. Hard to respond quick enough.

The Vikings just kick their first FG.

I say the halftime score will be 7-5 Denver.

  55. By Parody on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

I’m not liking all these throws behind or at the line of scrimmage. The defenders are playing them too tight, not giving them room for yards after the catch. It equates to a lot of plays for no gain or a loss.

  60. By Parody on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

7-5 at the first quarter. I doubt we’ll go the entire second quarter without any more points though. The offenses need to get into this game. So far the score is 9-3 Defense.

    Marc,
You are correct the oline is by far the worst in all of football at any level. The neccessary attributes needed to succeed at qb for the Minnesota Vikings:

    1) Must get rid of ball in 1.2 seconds
    2) Must have the accuracy of Aaron Rodgers
    3) Must scramble like Mike Vick
    4) Must have the intelligence of Peyton Manning
    5) Must have arm strength of John Elway
    6) Must have vision of Tom Brady
    7) Must have size of Ben Roethlisberger (in order to take on untouched blitzing linebackers coming at 35 mph.

There’s only 7-picks in the draft. You have to account for the RBs, WRs, QBs, DLine, LBs, DBs and special teamers too. If you spend 1-draft pick on each area, then you use all the selections you get in a year.

I think the coaches wanted SPEED on the field on that last offensive play anyways. They had to take one shot at the endzone in 7-seconds or less without a timeout. Harvin may have been able to get in there…but is he tall enough to be a factor in that situation? Meanwhile, TE’s usually are the slowest receiving options you have on the field.

  230. By Parody on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

CJ0K is a good RB, but he has too many up-and-down games, especially this season, to be considered better than AP. He’s been able to knock himself out of the top-10 for the year. Until he can return to being consistantly explosive, he’ll be in a class below Peterson.

i watched the titans game last week, Chris Johnson was running through huge holes. Even Javon Ringer was averaging about 6 yards a carry, if AP had those holes to run through he’d be doing 2000 yards

Well if we’re only focusing on the first 3-rounds, then it’s safe to assume that we’re taking special teamers out of the comparison all together, which means that we should be selecting a lineman once every other year. We got one in 2010, but have been pretty quiet other than that. You have to account for the fact that we had McKinnie, Birk and Hutchinson in recent years where we weren’t taking early olinemen. Maybe that was enough to convince the coaches that it wasn’t a big concern at the time.

2009 had 3-pro bowlers on the line. For some reason they let one of them walk, but he was a 6th-round pick being replaced by a 6th-round pick…

The team showed, with a lot of young backup players, that they can play competitively. Add a few good players in key positions (most notable OL) and we could see a huge turn around in the next year or two.

    1. A.P. starts to decline like all of the great RB’s do at that point in their career.

    2. We still are last in our own Division.

    3. We end up drafting another QB because Ponder is “ALRIGHT” but he’s not great or will he ever be a Aaron Rodgers or even a Cutler/Stafford type.

Frazier you’re too nice, get more aggressive! I better hear that you’re putting the players in full pads all week, I don’t care if you get fined for it! The pathetic tackling, coverage, and effort I see late in games is due to lack of discipline, and that comes back to the coaches.

This team is not playing to the level of the talent on it. What is the reason a team can make 32 points then lose by 3? Poor coaching and poor playing in key areas. These areas are obvious in the game. The secondary is poor. The OL is spotty, but did ok in second half. Why should be expect anything other than another loss. I will stand with my comments from last game. Fire Frazier and rest of his coaching staff and take Speilman with them. Hire a GM and start fresh. Time to clean house.

Ponder did a pretty good job today. If it weren’t for him, this team would’ve had no points. You guys have to take into consideration that Ponder put up 380 yards and 3 td’s against a very good defense. The only reason why the broncos have been winning games is because their defense has been putting them in position to do so. They did it again today. Tebow on the other hand, played against for sure the worst secondary, and probably the worst defense in the NFL. C’mon, tebow went 10-15 for over 200 yards and 2 td’s. Thats embarrassing. That’s 20 yards per attempt. The defense failed again in the second half like they have been this year.

  581. By Mike B. on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

@xvike Ponder threw 1 int when it would have been points on the board and then threw on at the end of the game which would have either got us points or kept us in for a tie. The OL during the first half was bad so it was both sides of the ball to contribute to this loss.

  582. By DesertViking on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

Who is coaching the special teams? When the kicker is he one that has to make the tackle to save the touchdown on back to back kickoffs, there’s a problem there.

Our special teams take the momentum away from our team so quick, we might as well tell Longwell to kick the ball out of bounds through the sideline.

  583. By Parody on Dec 4, 2011 | Reply

I’d liked Ponder’s presser. He did what he could to avoid handing out excuses, gave props to his teammates, didn’t try to blame anyone but himself and then ended with a strong soundbite: “Stats are stats. They don’t win ball games. I’d much rather have a win and throw for ten yards.” [In response to a question about whether he takes solace in the fact that he threw for close to 400 yards today].

I don’t advocate losing…but I’m happy about this game. We saw that Ponder is taking huge steps in his production as a starting qb. Even though he threw two interceptions that arguably lost the game, I liked his poise to come back after a pick six and lead a 95 yard scoring TD to Kyle Rudolph, who impresses the hel out of me. I’m excited for the future. It’s clear we need offensive line and CB/Safety help so let’s get it done and compete.

As I said last week, lack of talent explains only so much of this. The OL has not been able to pick up a blitz for years now and the defense just runs around in circles like a bunch of 6 year olds playing soccer. They have been blowing coverages, missing gap assignments and tackles all year long, whether we were playing good teams or bad ones. That’s on the coaches, period. Even if we have 3rd string cast-offs at some key positions, a good coach like Bill Cowher or Bellicheck would coach them to play their position to the best of their ability and they would be competitive. Under Chilly, Frazier didn’t do that, so why would we expect him to do it as head coach? I wasn’t in favor of hiring him back then, but now we are stuck with him. Hopefully he has the good sense to at least replace his coaching staff with some guys who think a whole lot differently than he does..until then, keep the bar well stocked guys..we’re gonna need it..

@Old School I must disagree with you as there is a lot of talent on this team, but they are not playing to that talent or playing as a team. I also disagree that Ponder is not a great QB, esp only after 1 year he is a smart person and a good head on what’s happening. I think we need to come back in a couple of years and revisit your comment. Rodgers spent a years under Farve and has a good offense to play with. The issue is still open on Stafford and Cutler.
Coaching, OL, and Secondary i can’t argue with that. This can be fixed by getting a new coaching staff, getting rid of most of the secondar and OL, and revaluate how our personel department is evaluating talent.

Parody it was a fumble. You have to be down for the ground to not cause a fumble. Tebow wasn’t down.

I agree that you should just let them score at the end. Hoping for a fumble or blocked punt is almost never gonna work. Harvin has a better chance of returning the kick for a TD than the Broncos not making the FG.

Great game by Harvin and Toby. Baffling that the Vikings never tried smashmouth earlier this year.

Maybe if you clean up your word usage they might allow it.

I also said that Tebow would have 200+ yards passing yesterday!!!!!!!!!

I should move to Vegas and just bet everything Viking related!
