Who in their right mind hands off to the 2nd rb on 4th & 1 instead of qb sneak or play action. The first seems obvious. Maybe Musgrove & frasier should be CUT (in both senses). Extremely heated fan …..

ATTENTION VIKINGS FANS OF MINNESOTA: AT FIRST I WAS AGAINST THE PROPOSAL FOR A NEW VIKINGS STADIUM BECAUSE I FELT THE “METRODOME” SHOULD BE FIXED UP WITH THE MONEY INSTEAD. I NOW UNDERSTAND AND SEE THE VISION THAT THE WILFS AND THE VIKINGS ORGANIZATION HAVE FOR THE STADIUM. THE WILFS WANT TO BUY SOME LAND TO BUILD ATTRACTIONS AROUND THE STADIUM- IT WILL TRULY BE A VIKINGS LAND. NOT ONLY WILL IT CREATE MANY JOBS AND I CAN’T PUT ENOUGH EMPHASIS ON MANY, BUT IT WILL BRING HOPEFULLY MUCH NEEDED POSITIVE EXPOSURE FOR OUR GREAT STATE AND POSSIBLY EVEN NEW FANS. IF WE LET OUR VIKINGS LEAVE PEOPLE WILL RESPECT OUR STATE EVEN LESS THAN THEY DO NOW. LET’S GET THIS DONE PEOPLE PLEASE!!

Vegas – I highly doubt that will be the case. Even IF Indy is able to win 3-games, (they just lost handily to the easiest opponent they had left this week) we’d be better off trading the selection than trying to trade the player. I’ve read that the selection is worth multiple first AND second round picks. It would really help to build the team. But Indy is going all out to ensure they get him, and they are well on pace to be the second 0-16 team in NFL history.

  14. By VegasVike on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Yeah we probably can’t catch Indy, hopefully we can trade back to get more than one above average player as it seems we need about six to eight. Didn’t see the game today but I would venture to guess our secondary and O line was our weak points?

  15. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Twoods – I think Toby is better than you give him credit for. He’s averaging 4.9 yards per carry this year, and that includes the subpar performance today which happened to come against one of the best run defenses in the NFL. He’d be a starter on many other teams, but with AP around he’s not getting the reps he deserves. 2.6 targets per game (his current average after getting the start today) is far too little for a second round draftee, especially considering the fact that we traded up to get him.

Personally, I think we need to stop wasting his talent. He probably will have decent trade value after this season, so unless the coaches decide to start using him alongside AP in 2-back sets, we should get what we can for him. Booker is a capable backup for AP, and a much better choice for the amount the team will spend on him.

  16. By Twoodsnvikes on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

I will agree with trading him and being able to get some value for him

  17. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Vegas – Considering the fact that we were playing without our top-2 corners, and a third (Allen) left with an injury early in the game, the secondary did pretty decently. They gave up some big plays, but held Atlanta to the second lowest score that the team has allowed all year (granted 24-points isn’t all that low).

I think the biggest problem this week was the suspect play calling. The game started out with all targets in the first drive going to Harvin, then all targets in the second drive going to Gerhart. Then later drives found a successful play, and then ran it a second time hoping to duplicate the success, but just made the offense painfully predictable and resulted in wasted plays, often with lost yardage.

In short, if the offensive play calling were more creative, we would have gotten a lot closer to winning this game. We had some good fortune too. Harvin returned a kickoff 3-yards short of the endzone, but the predictable playcalling went 4 and out. And the punting team was able to recover a fumble, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Musgrave’s lack of imagination.

  18. By VegasVike on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Or make a Hershel Walker (plus) type trade for AP???

  19. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

AP’s not going anywhere. I think we should start asking teams for a 2nd-round pick to get Gerhart, but settle for a 4th-round offer, if that’s the best we can get.

  20. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Either that, or get some young DBs with potential in the trade.

No 34-10 viking win over denver prediction yet?…this team has some major decisions to make…are we going for a rebuild or keep the core and add free agents…we are just not loaded with young elite prospects that will get better in the next few years…..i have little confidence that the present management has any idea on rebuilding this team no matter what route they take…if spielman is back next year it will be a sad decision

Thanks for the rundown Parody, sounds like it was a good watch. For those of you that say we draft poorly, we’ve been the recipient of the Rookie of the Year award TWICE in the last four years. That’s pretty strong odds, 50% out of 128 opportunities (32 teams X 4 years) so I wouldn’t say our war room is doing that bad, with the first pick anyhow.

  26. By Arrow86 on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Jared Allen showed greater versatility today, filling in as our long snapper. That’s not an easy job. On the one punt, I wish the Atlanta return man hadn’t waived for a fair catch. Allen was the first one down and ready to unload the diesel!

    @David P:

Obviously, NOT!! I still say we take the state championship coaches from each class in Minnesota and have them coach this team. An athlete like Webb would be on the field in some capacity. Bring in Billick as coach, and Dungy as GM. Heck, see if Tarkenton / Robert Smith / or Vinny Cerrato would be interested in the GM chair.

The offensive line is so inconsistent, one week they can run block, but can’t keep the quarterback up right. The next week they can some what protect, but can’t get any push off the line. Why is that? It goes beyond what the talent of the players, I think Coach Frazier needs to take a good look at his coaching staff, and himself. Why did he let Bevelle go to just to downgrade to Musgrave?

Why is this team so undisciplined? The db’s don’t know left from right and I don’t think they could cover me after I finished eating Thanksgiving dinner. Why is Benny Sapp back on the team? He go waived the the Dolphins for one good reason, he can’t cover.

Who do you think the worst db in the NFL is? I think Asher Allen and Benny Sapp would make two good candidates, with Cedric Griffin not too far behind. Honorable mentions would be Jamarca Sanford, Tyrelle Johnson, and Hussain Abdullah. These guys couldn’t cover a piece of paper with their hand.

Where is the game planning? Musgrave isn’t really playing to the strengths of our offensive weapons, or lack there of. Running of first, second, and third down doesn’t really work if your offensive line can’t even push a shopping cart out of the way. Has it come across Musgrave’s puny offensive mind that spreading our wr’s out and putting Ponder in shotgun so he has half a second more to throw might actually work? Getting everybody tight and sending someone in motion is not doing anything.

I like how Kevin Williams and the other dt’s are starting to get pressure form the inside, but where did Jared Allen and Robison go? NOW more than ever is the time when the defensive ends need to get pressure off the edge the most.

I could point out many, MANY more mistakes, inconsistencies, and just flat out stupidity, but frankly i’m just irritating myself now.

With as sporadic as Denver is right now, I don’t think they even know why they’re winning. Our D can’t figure out a predictable team that has a plan, I’m not sure they can beat a team that shoots from the hip.

  34. By Mike B. on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

The team as a whole plays inconsistant sometimes great and many times not. That is a direct reflection on the coaching. The team is not playing as a cohesive unit. That need to come from the coatches. The supporting cast is not there with the talented players that is personel. example of supporting cast is the LT, DBs, Nose Tackle RT. These players aren’t playing to their potential. Even Cook stopped the long catch, but allowed the short to intermediate missing tackles it’s awful. It comes down to bad fundamentals and poor coaching. Lack of plan when deciding to cut players. Coaching and personel. Time to clean house.

    @Vegas Vike:

When Holtz put him (Cerrato) in charge of recruiting at Notre Dame. Notre Dame went to the top. At the Redskins, Snyder was always wanting free-agents who didn’t fit the system. I think Cerrato deserves a shot at it. Head coach Billick. I hope our next coach instills a sense of punnishing toughness in his players. Lets start by drafting the LSU secondary and safeties.

  36. By Mike B. on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Wilfs need a fresh look at how to put this team together. Maybe Fred is right to get a GM to control coaching and personel. Someone with neutral eye and has experience building a winning team. It’s just as good to get a Head Coach and head of personel that will bring in fresh ideas. Either I am for.

The Bronco’s win ugly. The Vikings play ugly. Next week, activate all linebackers off the practice squad and play a 4-7 defense on the option. We can’t do any worse than our current secondary. (Sapp did break up a T.D.) so I need to give him credit on that.

  38. By Arrow86 on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

I like the idea of working a trade for A.P. By the time we get a decent line around him, he’ll be too beat up to play at the high level we’ve become accustomed too. We need the payroll and picks to build something.

  42. By Mike B. on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

@Arrow86 No team is going to put out a banquet of picks for a RB anymore. That happened with Herschel Walker and everyone found out how that went. The trade deadline is past so we would have to wait till the end of the season. The Vikings now understand the OL is not working and will be actively making it better next year. I think we will see marked improvement at OL next year.

Maybe they can do as well as the Ravens. Oh wait who was the Center and LT playing for before they went to the Ravens.

  44. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Mike B. – That Center left because of the coach that was too inept to lead the team. Birk was from Minnesota, but couldn’t stand Childress so much that he felt a need to find a different team! It’s likely that McKinnie’s resurgent success is due in large part to the fact that he is reunited with a probowl leader at center.

  56. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Vegas – I agree with your point, but since we just gave him a 7-year extension, it is extremely unlikely that we’ll be trading AP any time soon. The signing bonus is money that the team HAS to give to AP regardless of whether he remains a Viking, and it is more than $5mil a year that counts against the salary cap. So it would be stupid for the team to trade him away unless a desperate team makes an even more momumental offer than the result of the Walker trade.

  57. By Eric on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Poor coaching across the board. They refuse to give Ponder max pass protection. They don’t know how to pick up the blitz. Not one Viking coach considers using an extra guard for pass blocking and run blocking like other teams are doing. The Oline stinks, Loadholt in particular. Varied shifts, blocking schemes and over loads may help against eight in the box. No one is held accountable. I am just a guy watching on TV, why can’t the Vikings coaching staff get it?

Vikings Play calling has been so predictable. Its one of the most basic offensives I’ve ever seen. I think my 105 pound tackle football team had more plays. That was back in 1975. Watch, once Adrian Peterson gets back in…they will Run up the middle all day. Peterson is needs to be going off the edges or running wide. Adrian was setting records when he changed direction or went wide. Now all we see is up the middle. Every Defense is playing 8 or 9 men to the middle. He has no where to Run. If I was a Defensive Coordinator I would do it too. Let Ponder beat them. Don’t get me wrong, I like Chrisitan, but he’s young. If the Vikings don’t get more creative and execute we won’t win another game.

I’ve been to 3 Vikings Road Games and I’ve never seen my Vikings Lose. I’m going to see the Vikings at Washington this year. I watched them win last year. But I know better this year. I hope my perfect Record stays intact. But, I’m prepared to finally see them lose. I HOPE NOT.

    GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WIN……sometime soon

    @Parody,

Currently my goal is to try to get the bloggers to work together.
Perhaps my idea of getting a General Manager is not the best idea out there.
Whatever it is, we MUST strive to work as ONE to achieve the goal to save the Vikings.

I have asked the question MANY MANY times. What idea is better than hiring a General Manager?

Sure Firing the coach has worked a few times. But losing franchises are noted for hiring and firing a coach year after year. Sometimes teams fire 2 or 3 Head Coaches in a season. THAT’S NO WAY TO BUILD.

You put Billy Bilichick as Vikings Head Coach…it’s still a 5 year building plan!

So other than firing the HC, what are you going to do???

Question: Who is responsible for telling Frasier whether or not to throw a challenge flag. According to the post-game interview, he can’t see the replays from the sideline and can’t make the call himself. It was quite clear on the replays I saw that Harvin scored on third down. Sideline administrative management issues seem to be a problem for the Vikes and this is clearly NOT a player execution issue.

Well, the last time we had a player taken in the top 7 we took Peterson. I guess we are getting higher round selections than that and therefor our GM will have it easier to evaluate and draft talent. Please, start to play Burton to see if he is good or not.

He probably is our best player and the face of our franchise. That is the reason why we shouldn’t even think about trading him.

When is this team going to play with heart? When are the coaches going to remove their heads from their a$$$ and learn how to coach? When is this team going to resemble a team that at least seems to know what is going on? I know, when he^^ freezes over.

I would like to know how it can be said that the vikings have done well in the last decade of the draft. Other than the obvious talent high in the early rounds of the draft, The vikings have consisstantly passed over the better player for a work in progress type player, only to cut or release those types of players 2-3 seasons later. Meanwhile the better players we passed on are second year starters on other teams and of those starters most of them are some of the best players in the league at there position. Just do the research as i have and you will find this to be a fact. This taem will not get back to its dominnance of the NFC North until Spielman and Studwell are replaced.

Call Brian Bellick up this morning, add Cower to the list. Vikes you want a first rate stadium get us a first rate coach first. About Peterson a trade is not way out of line. Remember Herschal? Dallas made there team for years on that trade. This team has so many holes a blockbuster move is the fastest way to fill some of them. Either AP or Allen are the only ones with any trade value. Toby, a dime a dozen back.

  88. By Mike B. on Nov 28, 2011 | Reply

@The Brain The problem with an AP trade everyone knows what happened to the Vikings due to that trade. They were an average team for almost 10yrs because of that one trade. No team is going to sell the farm for a running back and now since the trade deadline is past the value for AP is much less. AP is fastly becoming the heart and soul of the team and trading him away will tear the guts out and cause issues for several years anyway. Just the thing you are trying to avoid.

First things first!! I’m absolutely shocked that Percy got caught from behind on that kickoff return!! I knew he needed to score with our inept offense and offensive play calling!! Now, I know I’m not a rocket scientist, but when your down by 10, which means you need a touchdown and a field goal to tie, why did you not kick the field goal when they stopped you on 3rd down?? There also, should have been a challenge on Percy’s run, which showed he had scored?? Where is the coach during all of this? This guy looks lost out there!! The NFL stands for, NOT FOR LONG, when you coach like that!! As Herm Edwards said, “you play to win the game”!!! Someone needs to tell our coach this!! This is the worst coached team in Viking history!! We need to pull a Les Steckel on this guy and fire him after one season!! No more hiring guys named Les!!!

  90. By 61vikings on Nov 28, 2011 | Reply

Stop the trade talk of AP!!!!!!! He’s the best player we have and it will keep defenses honest, which means it should open the door for Ponder to make some plays!! The smart play would be to trade down in the first round, which will give you much needed additional picks to start rebuilding this team!!

    @ Fire Rick Spielman
Really? Stop listening to Bud Grant? I highly doubt there taking any advice from Bud Grant, other than, where’s the best places to hunt and fish!! And, by the way, we see how hard it is to get to the SuperBowl in this league and he did it 4 TIMES!! Unfortunately for him and the Minnesota Vikings, the AFC dominated the league in the seventies!! The NFC only won two SuperBowls during that time!!!! We could only hope to have a guy like Bud Grant coaching us now!!

  92. By 61vikings on Nov 28, 2011 | Reply

    @ Fred Jones
I agree we need to hire a new GM, but in doing so, he will want to bring in his kind of guy to coach the team!! Leslie Frazier like Norv Turner, are guys who are great coordinators but not head coaches and leaders of men!! The guys we passed on here when they were coordinators, Dungy, Billick and Tomlin are great leaders and motivators of men!! When asked what makes these guys such great coaches, most of there players would say, they just know how to motivate and lead the team and had them ready to go for every game!! Our coach just doesn’t have that!!

  93. By 61vikings on Nov 28, 2011 | Reply

I don’t care if we lose the rest of our games as long as we beat the Broncos!! Living in Denver for 23 years, all I ever heard was how great the Broncos were and Elway was the best QB ever!! It was so great when they got destroyed in those SuperBowls prior to 1996!! I’m just glad I moved away from there in ’95 when they beat the Packers in ’96 and the Falcons in ’98, which by the way, should have been our SuperBowl!! Minnesota will get off the losing streak by beating the Broncos, 27-17!!

Wobbs is an employee or contractor… And in order to maintain that relationship amoung all the politics abounding, cannot be forthright as you or me.

The coaching is not fine Fred. If you can build 3 score leads, you have players. If you cannot maintain 3 score leads you have poor coaching. The season start set the tone, and the current state of the symphony is evidence.

In as much as T-bow is finding ways to win, Vikes are finding new ways to loose. The superbowl and nfc championship dissappointments have found their way into the regular season. The Mcnabb waste, and lack of interest in db or oline FA’s during when we were swimming in the FA swapmeet may or may not be the GM. The ties between Phaser and McNabb are evident.

I still don’t understand why we are not playing our Canadien free agent Manny and some of the draft picks we have? I heard rookie WR Burton was maiking strides – but we waived him for TE Reisner? Are we re-signing him to the practice squad? Clearly we need to focus on next season at this point – so I say get these guys on the field and start earning your Coaching paychecks and Coach em up!! Our needs are obvious, but they were the same obvious needs we had last year too. I think that is why all Vikes fans are nervous about the upcoming draft, that is what I am nervous about. I will be shocked if they do the right thing and trade away their pick for more value. Denver will be lookiing for a top QB – I am convinced that is why they started Tebow ( backfired ) – but Elway wants a QB like Luck or RG3 – he will give it up for a chance to get one of those guys.

First- Ponder deserves a hand for staying in there and doing all he can despite the lacking O-line. He did a great job. Our defense is despicable. Lastly- our offensive play calling on the goal-line was pathetic. I think Ponder ought to start calling his own plays when such idiocy comes through his helmet speaker… Take a lesson from Favre on that one. Frazier, you lack of emotion says it all.You anc Chilly have one facial expression and the fact thatyou can’t show us fans any emotion for the game tells me that so far you are not the fit for this organization. Very disappointed. I thought the Vikes had found a solution in Frazier, but that is so not the case… Denver is going to be interesting. 2 chaotic teams trying to find a way to win…. should be fun to watch, but with all of our injuries, I am hesitant to say we get the win… Keep bleeding purple my friends…

Is there an Over/Under on the penalty yards Loadholt will be responsible from week to week? Combining that with the Sacks he gives up per game and I bet he is responsible for -40 to -50 yards a game of offense. Maybe we can let him go to the Ravens too, I wouldn’t stop him. ( I have watched a couple of Raven games and McKinnie is not helping them ) Also – I am not sure how creative you can be as a coordinator when your DB’s and O-Line are so sieve like? You can’t blitz when you would like to and you can’t throw to any WR’s with regularity because you have no time. I am not sure it was creative to put Harvin at Tailback and have him try and punch it into the endzone after he clearly had nothing left in the tank after that run back. He did set a record though for the longest play in NFL history without scoring @ 104 yards – why do we hold these obscerely bad records – 4 SB’s no win – Ran a TD the wrong way – longest play without scoring – I am sure there are more. Here is to a good draft class in 2012 – better go OL – DB – OL – DB – OL – WR(fast) – LB – DL(Pat Williams)

I would trade the Broncos for our draft pick – our 1st round pick for their 1st and 2nd and 4th or 5th PLUS Erik Decker! That kid is a beast – I was disappointed we did not draft that kid, who knew better than the State of Minnesota what a talent that kid was? I am telling you Elway wants Luck for sure or RG3 if he can get him.

Oh and another obscure record we are tracking for this season – We have yet to stop a team on a 3 and 1 all season……. I heard this last week from the announcers and I have not researched it all the way to the beginning of the season yet, but so far it looks true. We had two cracks at it yesterday, and were 0 for 2. If that doesn’t show problems, nothing does.

They shouldnt even be on the team.

Our whole secondary stinks they should all be fired after this season and start over. It couldnt be any worse! Put windfield as a safety other than that get rid of all of them including the Henderson boys. Where always 10 yards away from the reciever and when they do press coverage they get beat, enough already.

Frazier is suppose to know defense well maybe but he sure doesnt know talent!

Whys is it that our linebackers are always out of position 9 out of 10 times. They make one good play and its like there wonderful, but weveryone ignores the other 9 that they missed.

    @61Vikings,

Thank you for responding to my craziness, and agreeing that we need a GM.

I found your explaination of what makes a great coach interesting, and without merit. No one can really define what makes a good coach, they just know that when they are winning….he’s a great coach. LOL x 1,000,000!

What we need to do more than anything else (and I am SO SURE about this) is
GET SOME TALENT AT OFFENSIVE LINE, DEFENSIVE BACK, AND NOW WIDE RECEIVER!!!

How do we go about it? I say hire a GENERAL MANAGER to clean up the mess left by the current FRONT OFFICE administration since 2003.

Too many Chiefs, not enough Indians WILL NOT GET IT DONE.

I don’t believe in co-coaches. Someone has to be in charge of any organization. Right now, that is in question with the MN VIKINGS.

Why are the Vikings not using Joe Webb at all, especially when our offense is struggling as much as it is. I thought he was drafted as an athlete pretty much, not for his QB skills. It seems we clearly do not see him as a QB with Ponder being selected. Webb is a very tall, fast, and a strong athlete who has superb leaping ability which are all things you look for in a WR. We should try using him the rest of the season as a full-time WR because Ponder doesn’t have a big WR who can stretch the field. Not saying he’s a lock to be a star, but who knows he could end up becoming one with some practice. What else do we have to lose?

  113. By CanadianVF on Nov 28, 2011 | Reply

Yes, lets trade A P for multiple draft picks so we can draft offensive linemen and defensive backs, that will be fun to watch. Or maybe we could do a Tim Tebow and turn Ponder in to a running back, quarteback and let him carry the ball all the time and once in a while hand off to Gerhart that would be fun to watch. Or maybe we could make Webb into our new running back now that A P is gone run the Wildcat offense or whatever we call it and he could do it for the whole game, that would be fun to watch. Or maybe we could …….. unbelievable ! When you have the best running back in the league and someday will be remembered as one of the best to ever play the game, I think that is a piece of the puzzle we may want to keep.

OK boys and girls keep Ap and Allen , but get used to 4-12 or 3-13 for the future. We have way more holes to fill than we have draft picks. And don’t forget the lifespan of a back in the NFL. Also put aside the fact that rhe best teams in the NFL are passing teams, oh forgot we have no recievers. But lets do nothing and have the best running back who runs for 85 yards but we loose 27-10 each week. Trade Luck you say? Have you all forgot Indy. You think they will pass on Luck? HA HA

Fire Spielman get a real general manager. Keep fraizer. Fire Musgrave and find a offensive coordinater with an imagination that can get alot of play makers on the field at the same time. Trade Toby Gerhart for at least a 2nd and maybe 3rd round draft pick. Then go out and get one of the elite Wr’s in free agency then go and in the draft 1st R Kalil OT 2nd R Gilmore CB, 2nd R A Lester S 3rd R Mcnutt WR, 3rd R A Jenkins WR 4th R Fletcher CB 5th R Nix OG 6th & 7th R toss up.

I am all for keeping the entire coaching staff… give them a chance guys. If I were going into battle and my leader was all emotional… I would freak out too… frazier is a nice, calm, cool person no matter the situation. Musgrave has good ideas and plays. I have seen more combinations and different packages in one game than I did in all of Childress’s career. Tough to do anything on any play when your o’-line struggles to push a shopping cart.
Next I think we should dig into free agency for a veteran safety and an 0-lineman or two that are young and have a big upside. Maybe even pick up vincent jackson for a big play reciever. THEN draft a big play WR, Stud CB, Oline and what not…

Fellow bloggers ponder this: Frazier comes from the Childress line, which comes from Reid-none of his crew has won a Superbowl. Bellichick, and Payton come from the Parcells line which has multiple Superbowl wins. There are execptions, but my point is it is my opinion to CLEAN HOUSE and get rid of all of the leftovers and really turn the page to a new beginning for our Minnesota Vikings.

  125. By CanadianVF on Nov 29, 2011 | Reply

At Viking-ology, I am with you on your points. Look at what drafting Dalton and Green the wideout has done for Cincinatti this year. We have not replaced Sidney and so Defenses play us differently because they are not worried about us going deep. The elite recievers make the big bucks because they score in the red zone. How much better would Ponder be in the red zone if he had an elite reciever to throw to, he already has good stats there without one. If we really want to turn this around we have got to get an established coach with a proven track record. Steve Fisher anyone ?

Rick Spielman has to be let go at the end of season bring in John Dorsey for GM. Your team needs to be built around Draft picks not Free Agents and once the Draft picks in their prime trade them for high picks no point in keeping a player till they retire because once a team knows how to stop that player its over for example Adrian Peterson look at his rookie year other teams didn’t know how to stop him but look at him now they all do
