Vikings Promote TE Allen Reisner To Active Roster

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 26, 2011 – 11:32 am

The Vikings have tweaked their roster in advance of Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

TE Allen Reisner has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. To make room for Reisner, the Vikings waived WR Stephen Burton.

With both Visanthe Shiancoe and Kyle Rudolph on the injury report this week, Reisner could be a factor for the Vikings on Sunday.

Why don’t the vikings think about going 4 wr plays..That bunched wr stuff just isn’t getting the job done..

“There are two games out there. The one that gets televised is the game with the ball. I may not play in that at all….I’m playing where the ball is not.”
Merlin Olsen, Hall of Fame DT for the Los Angeles Rams

Since there is NO ORDER among our VPs, which game do you think they are watching? You are correct, they are watching the ball.

Hence, Offensive Linemen did not get drafted as a high priority. Without a change

Expect the Vikings to be the new Lions.

Larry Csonka, Hall of Fame Fullback, Miami Dolphins

The Vikings need to hire a General Manager that has been there and will keep the TEAM in mind when it comes to drafting, free agency, and trades.

I don’t understand, why get rid of a WR when we could use one?

  7. By Mike B. on Nov 26, 2011 | Reply

The team wasn’t using Burton so it made sense to waive him. They can put him back on the practice sqaud if he isn’t picked up anyway. With Shank’s contract coming up this offseason, the team needs to evaluate Reisner incase they want to go with Rudolph and Reisner next year and letting either Kliensasser or Shank go. The move makes sense with Shank and Rudolph nicked up.

@ Fred you have no clue about personel none of those guys would make a good GM. Need a person with personel experience. I suggest dumping Spielman and promoting Studwell to GM. He has been a scout for a long time and knows personel. If Jack Del Rio is displaced I would use him as GM.

  9. By Mike B. on Nov 26, 2011 | Reply

@Fred sorry man too critical at the start of my last post. I don’t agree with your choices though.

  10. By Parody on Nov 26, 2011 | Reply

Waiving Burton isn’t going to hurt this team at all. He’s a 7th-round pick for a team that is at the bottom of the league. It’s unlikely that any other teams will even talk to him to see if he can improve their WR corps. He’ll go through the standard process and join the practice squad.

I like the move. With the contracts of Shiancoe and Kleinsasser ending this year, we need to find their replacements. I like Kleinsasser, but he is getting paid too much for what he is able to add to the team now. If Reisner can step up, his youth will benefit the team.

I’d like to see Shiancoe get a new contract, but it would have to be for the right price. He’s still a good receiving TE, but he may demand too much money, and he appears to be getting a bit more brittle these days. If we don’t get him back though, it will create that much more need for a true #1 WR in order to give the passing offense respect enough to open up the field for AP.

  11. By Twoodsnvikes on Nov 26, 2011 | Reply

I don’t see why they didn’t even try to give Burton a chance, never threw to him once

  12. By Parody on Nov 26, 2011 | Reply

Twoods – He’s a 7th-round pick. He was lucky to have even made the active roster in his first season. Give it time, and if he improves enough he will start receiving looks on offense, but he needs to earn it.

  13. By Twoodsnvikes on Nov 26, 2011 | Reply

Yeah I mean I know he wasn’t big time, but compared to putting in Arcenaux who most people thought should get promoted to active roster since he did good things in preseason, and then they don’t even get Burton involved when Manny could have made some plays, doesn’t make sense, but thats the Vikes for ya

i agree with the guy at the top saying getting rid of shank and kelinsasser but instead put kleinsasser at fullback instead of TE. Lets see what reisner can do. i believe that he can step up and become a big threat for us. he was good at iowa and i like him. but we should try to trade shaiancoe and mcnabb and i know no one will want him but we should try the jaquars or something and try to get a third round pick for them and keep rudolph and reisner as the TE and in the fist five picks in the first four rounds that we have we should get guard, two defensive backs, WR or two and olinemen those are the positions we need most for next year

What caught my attention was the idea our holidays are ruined because our football team is having an off year. Sorry, but I think I speak for a lot of Vikings fans– we are disappointed in the Vikes record, but our lives go on.

Then again, what else does a Packer fan do in life? Maybe sneak a peek in the neighbor’s barn?

Of the former coaches and players you mentioned as a possible GM, the only one I would trust to set a high enough standard and control the salaray cap would be Robert Smith. I would prefer to offer a couple of names for the GM post. Bill Cowher, or Vinny Cerrato. Cerrato was last with the Redskins, he grew up in Albert Lea, and played at Iowa State. In Washington Daniel Schneider meddled with the roster. The Wilf’s allow football people to control the football. Cerrato could be the guy!

I’m glad Reisner was activated. I felt he did a good enough job in pre-season to earn a roster spot. However, we’re attached to our veteran players, and we have a bloated payroll.

Whoever, is calling the shots on draft day had better be working out Mathieu’s or Claiborne of the LSU Tigers. Let’s get some players who understand football and have the athleticism to compete.

Because we’re very perplexed by your ignorance. Do you really have the need to get the last word in? Is that all it is? What possible motive could that accomplish? Does it give you that one last “victory” that you need over the people that you hate so much? Then by all means, show your restraint. Make your one last post in reply to my comment, get the last word in, and I’ll just ignore you. We’ll see if you have the ability to disappear.

even if he wanted to go to the bears i think doctors would say no, he was getting hit a lot with us imagine if he had the bears OL??? plus they have horrible WRs. I thought Orton would go there but to be honest their back up played well in the championship game last year.

  123. By Parody on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

Since when is Favre someone who obeys doctor’s orders? He finished the last two seasons with an INT. I’m sure he’d love the chance for one last shot at the Super Bowl, even if it were with a shaky offensive line in front of him. That’s why he came to us in ’09, returned in ’10, and is probably itching for the right team now to take over. The Bears are currently in first place for the NFC Wild card race, so now would be a perfect time for him to jump in and make his best effort to resurrect his reputation.

if i were farve and actually thinking about making a comeback houston would be the better option. 1) arguably a better RB 2) by far better WRs, andre johnson nuff said 3) Owen Daniels is good TE 4) the AFC south is weak so guaranteed playoffs 5) the NFC is much deeper than the AFC theres Balt, Pitts, NE and thats about it

Good arguments. Especially about the strength of the conferences. Three of the AFC’s top-4 teams are tied in the win column with the 4-teams who share third-place in the NFC. While Baltimore sits at the top of the AFC with only one win more than the next 3.

So after a 2-8 start and failed coaching and failed draft picks, The scape goat is now the shortend pre season practices. If Fraizier is able to sell this Garbadge to the Wilf’s, Then we can expect more failed Draft selections and a misserable 2012 season. Maybe just maybe the Wilf’s will realize what needs to change and be removed from the failed formula, Rick Spielman , Scott Studwell , Leslie Fraizier must be replaced for this team to truly have a great chance at rebuilding in 3 short years or Leave things as they are and still be rebuilding 5 years from now and a horriable team for the next 5 years and beyond.

  134. By truther on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

As a diehard Vikings Fan since 1961, I am extremely worried that Studwell, Spielman and Fraizier will continue to waste the Vikings Draft selections. With all of the probowl caliber College players for the 2012 draft from LSU ,Alabama,USC Stanford,Goergia,Oregon,Baylor,Clemson Auburn, Oklahoma, Oaklahoma State, Notredame, South Carolina, Just to name the obvious most talented players on these teams. You would have to be completely clueless Not to be able to draft future pro bowlers with 8 out of 10 of your draft selections. The 2012 draft is atleast 10 deep of pro bowl level players at every position and after that it drops a little bit to a Plethera of very good Football Players.

  135. By truther on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

The Vikings have lost there identity. From 1965 to 2001 we were the Black and Blue Division. Ew used to be Big Mean Powerful and Fast at most of our defensive positions all but our CB’s we have always been weak there. We were also Big, Mean and Fast on our entire offence. We used to be the Slobber Nockers of the NFC North. Now we draft athlete’s that are as fragile as thurough Breds, One tough hit and they are on IR for 4 or 5 games or done for the season. It realy has become pethetic and Embaraising. We must get back to our Franchise Identitty. We need to stop drafting the Dazzaling I candy Athlete’s that are not Durable enough to compete at hard nosed Football. We need to start drafting less athletic but more durable Hard Nosed Football Players.

  136. By truther on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

We had better get back to position specific drafting. The player is drafted to play one position and only that position. No more more of these Multi taskers that are drafted to play at 2 or 3 different positions. This is what has led to this Debackle of inferriorr players on this team year in and year out. This minset started in 2001 when Rick Spielman was hired to run our College draft system. This failed draft system is the mindset of Spielman. We have all heard him say on many occassions that he drafts the Best Athlete Available Regaurdless of our posional needs, Like Toby Gheirhart and so on. These types of picks are completely Foolish when our real needs are ignored. It would have only made sense if we were going to trade Toby to aquire multiple draft picks.

  137. By truther on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

The entire NFL system is a giant Chess Board. Every decision and move that is made is critical to the future and success or failure of the Team as an Organization. In the Draft, If the player you need for a specific position is Taken Just before your turn to select, Well, then you do take the best player available With the sole intention of trading that pick for multiple picks. There will always be a team behind you that needs the player you just selected. Thats how you are suppose to work the draft. It’s more about stockpiling one draft for the next draft. You are only going to be able to fill 50% of your needs in each draft and only if you choose wisely. You evaluate this years Seniors with next years Seniors, If next years draft looks to have better and more talent Then you use your #1 and #2 and 6 – 7 selection and trade your #3-4 and 5 for multiple picks for next year . It will also allow you to use your extra draft picks for the following draft to Move up in Rounds 1 – 2 – 3 and possibly 4 as well. A little Wise Patients pays off Huge.

yep Truther the draft record for paton/spielman/studwell is starting to go down hill real fast. Number 6 last year cut in training camp, Number 7 last year cut without a touch two days ago. Number 4,5 from last year(Love,Burton) questionable to make the team next year. Number 2 Chris Cook(plus draft pick lost to move up) probably lost until 2014 with off-field issues. Jury still out on Number 2 picks Gerhart and Rudolph

  140. By truther on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

We could completely rebuild this taem to SB contenders in the 2012 draft. One draft. One year. 2012 by trading Brian robison, Keven Williams, Toby Gheirhart, Percy Harvin and Chad Greenway. This 2012 draft is so loaded and deep with Pro Bowl quality players. This quality and depth of the 2012 college draft class only happens once every 30 years or so. This is the Vikings Time to go all in. This type of oppertinity useually only presents itself once in the history of a Franchise. The Vikings must stop patching up all of the Holes on this team and for once DO IT RIGHT and start the building of a Dynasty in 2012, PLEASE for the sake of everyone.

Make WEBB a WR once and for all, he will NEVER be a starting QB, but his supreme athletic ability translates well to WR. When you add HARVIN, JENKINS, RUDOLPH etc. it’s a nice start to the position(s)….I TOTALLY AGREE we need to make a couple trades for more picks.
Ms. McNabb will be gone and WEBB should be a full time WR so OBVIOUSLY we need another QB ro compete with, and beat out last years PANIC PICK…PONDER, who I actually like, he offers some serious skills in certain area’s, HOWEVER he has serious limitations to parts of his game and there are FAR BETTER OPTIONS where we will pick this year, R.G.3, BARKLEY, just to name 2. THEN DRAFT OL, DB, OL, DB, OL, DB, and then sign 20 O-linemen and corners and safties (DB’s) as rookie F/A’s. It would be a NICE START to turning this team around !!!!!!!

  144. By truther on Nov 27, 2011 | Reply

What i am saying is that with 3 -3rd and 3 -4rth round picks as well as our 1 an 2 These college players in this years draft are twice as good as the starters that i listed and they will be just as good in ther rookie season as these starters have been for 3 years. You dont seem to get it , these college players 1-5 in rounds 1-4 are all going to be pro bowlers by there 2nd or third year. You dont think it is worth giving up these starters for pro bowl calibur talent. You really should study the level and depth of talent in this upcoming Draft The depth of talented players in this draft is extremely rare. Doesnt happen but every 3 or for Decades. These starters that i listed for trade, wont be able to compete with these college kids in two years. If we hold on to these players and go cheap in freagentcy like always we will be 5 – 11 next year.
