Vikings Fans Encouraged To Help Tackle Hunger On Sunday

Posted by Mike Wobschall on November 19, 2011 – 12:01 pm

The Vikings are teaming up with UnitedHealthcare to host a Food & Fund Drive to collect non-perishable food items for hungry Minnesotans. Fans attending Sunday’sVikings-Raiders game will be greeted by UnitedHealthcare volunteers who will be collecting food and funds at all entrances to Mall of America Field prior to the game.

Food and funds collected at the game will be given to Second Harvest Heartland for distribution throughout its 59-county service area. Non-perishable and non-breakable food items can include such items as canned soups, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meat, boxed pasta, rice, and peanut butter.

Hunger in Minnesota is on the rise. In fact, visits to Second Harvest Heartland’s member agencies increased 82% in the last three years, from 943,000 visits in the first eight months of 2008 to 1.7 million visits in the first 8 months of 2011. Senior hunger in particular is on the rise. More than 136,000 seniors age 65 and older visited food shelves in Second Harvest Heartland’s service area during the first 8 months of 2011. That’s an increase of 50% over that same 8-month period in 2008.

The Vikings Food & Fund Drive is part of UnitedHealthcare’s “Do Good. Live Well.” employee volunteer initiative. For more information on UnitedHealthcare and its “Do Good. Final predictions, gentlemen?

  2. By TITANIUM TITUS on Nov 19, 2011 | Reply

I will keep with my first prediction, although, I think we might have a record setting day for scoring. 31-17 Vikings. AP will have a mammoth day– over 200 yds rushing. Allen 3 sacks.

You’re a moron Titus. Darren Mcfadden will have a buck 25. Palmer will throw for 300+yards with 3TD’s. We’re going against the FASTEST WR core in the NFL. Our DB’s will just get FLAT OUT BURNT! I got the Raiders in a Rout.

OK, my prediction: Vikes-34 Raiders-30. Allen gets 2 sacks; Peterson gets 150 total yds. with 2 TD’S

Nice, thank you Mt. Spence– you can go to the Raiders’ site to root for your team.

I will stick with my earlier prediction 31-17 Raiders,
Note: this prediction does not mean I am a Raiders fan, nor am I rooting for the Raiders to win…..just don’t see the Vikes winning based upon this season’s play.

Im just a realist Titus. If I werent a Vikings fan and somebody asked me who would win this game. I would say the Raiders. Just because im a diehard fan doesnt mean I have to pick them to win every game. The Raiders are better than us in EVERY phase of the game! The ONLY thing we’re better than them would be at RB( not by much) and pass rush( not by much)

I pick ‘em to win every game because I believe they COULD win every game. THAT’S ALSO WHY I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT THIS SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    But I digress…..

    SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I root for my team to win and believe in them no matter what. Imagine a friend who says, well, I am a realist, I don’t think you will get that job. Baloney. I am a fan.

    TRUE FANS UNITE!!!!

10-4 Joe, I like your prediction. Vikings by four, they score in the last three minutes to go up. Wish I could see it!

No offense Titus, you seem to be smart, but with your prediction rate, it is clear your knowledge of this team is limited…..
