    Don’t you have to go above and beyond to get rookie of the week? Average play doesn’t excite anyone. I suppose when you’ve had mediocre play for two years anything is exciting in a “Yeeha” state. California is the place to be.

    Even as a Vikings fan, it’s hard to say that Ponder played better than Newton (who is also nominated this week). Of course I still voted for Ponder though!

    I can tell you that California is not the place to be because it is by far the worst state I have ever been in (I live there and want to leave more than anything else). California is in debt the last time I checked so why would they want another football team here. Don’t make any sense.

    Since this is the most recent blog, I’ll post this here. Bad news, Viking fans. The Minnesota lawmakers and Gov. Dayton agreed that there will not be enough support in the Legislature to exempt the Vikings Stadium from a referendum. Therefore, the Vikings must wait until November 2012 for any vote on a state or local tax increase. Until then ,the Vikings must either try to get money from the Legacy fund, petition for a casino being built, or expect a departure from Minnesota after February. Dark day as a Viking fan.

    It seems as if everyone feels the top weak area is the defensive secondary, closely followed by the Offensive Line.

    Is there anyone out there who feels that there are areas we need help with even more than the DBs or OLs???

    And if so why???

    This is funny stuff, I had thought the Vikings would have to bring this to the individual voters and Wilfs thought they could do as the Twins and avoid it. There is no politician with a spine enough to give the Vikings what they want. If you bring it to Minneapolis or St Paul maybe, but Arden Hills you have to ask the people of the state. Now that is gutless. It is exactly what I thought it would be between the people of MN and the Vikings and now it is what it is. So MN do you want NFL football or not it’s up to you. The Metrodome is not good enough even if you gave it to the Vikings. It’s your choice do you want a team or not. It will probably take a decade and you will be buying a stadium for another team to come here and at a lot more cost.

  26. By rye on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

    Ponder is the real deal! I’m very happy the vikings picked him up.

  27. By Mike B. on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

    No matter what the Metrodome will sit empty without a college team, without an NFL team, NO NBA team, and no baseball team. Better to build a new stadium for a team that wishes to stay in MN and reap the profits from that than try and hold out for getting by. Getting by means you get nothing.

    I voted for Ponder too! I read where someone said that Ponder gave a very average performance so why should he win? Obviously the person who said that does not know how good 236 yards, 1 touchdown, and NO turnovers is for a rookie who is playing only his second game in the pros. And with the lockout, practicaly no pre-season time to prepare. Cam has played all season, what is it….8 games already? Yea, I voted for Ponder, and Im proud of it because, all things considered, he gave what could be the best rookie performance of the week. I want the world to know….” I V O T E D F O R P O N D E R”.

    When you have a running back like Peterson any rookie should put 236 pass yards up. A good running game sets up the pass. Poor AP has been squandered by a poorly managed franchise. Too bad. All the lemmings are following suit in the Ponder craze. You could put Adolf Hitler in at quarterback and the fans in Minnesota would get down on thier knees and worship him. So fair weather. Wait until Ponder has a bad game, the tune WILL change.

    While A P is certainly good for Ponder, I think Ponder is going to be good for A P. I thought there was a very good progression from his first start to this one. His pocket presence, decision making, quick feet leave no doubt that he can play at a high level in the NFL. He is very smart and when he makes a mistake, he learns from it and doesn’t make it again. I love the way he handles himself on and off the field in interviews, boy it still is early but it sure looks like he is a keeper. Maybe it is making those Packer fans a little uncomfortable! One other thing if Newton doesn’t stop going airborne when he is trying to score a td, he isn’t going to live long in this league.

    I do believe Ponder could be one of the best QBs of all time. He will definitely be in the elite class of QB’s within 2-3 years, provided we give him a supporting cast of a great O Line and great WR’s.

    The reason GB fans are annoyed with Viking fans is the fact that they go Kardashian for players on thier team one week and the next stab them in the back. Example: Favre, Moss, Berrian, Rice… Then again when you ride the Viking rollercoaster who can blame them. I wish they would win a Superbowl just to stop the bleeding.

    I agree with you Titus. I think if we give Frazier a full off season and a grab a couple good players in F.A (if there’s enough cap room) and draft some player who’ll make an Impact. This team will make playoffs in a year or two.

  56. By Titus on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

    I bet we make playoffs next year for sure. I will hope this year as long as it is still possible— at this point it is– a bit of a dream maybe, but as long as there is a chance, I will hold on.

  57. By Frederick Jones on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

    @Titus,

    Regarding Packer fans on here, remember the saying:

    “What goes around comes around.”

    Ponder will be at least as good as Tommy Kramer, perhaps even better, like you said, IF he gets the supporting cast….defense, special teams, offensive line, wideouts, TEs, RBs, kicker, punter. We’re off to a good start.

    6-2 the rest of the way? I think more like 4-4, unless Dr. Love and the Monte Fusco are better than anyone thought.

    Then again we still lack strong defensive halfbacks….

  58. By Titus on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

    Fred– the next game will determine the final record. A loss will demoralize and we will probably be 6-10 or 7-9. A win and we win out.

  59. By JPNYC on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

    @Titus

    i agree. Ponder will be one of the elite in a couple of years. provided we have the supporting staff for him. did you hear what D Sanders and M Irving said? they said that Ponder, Cam, Dolton- are the next group of elite QBs. they alll think that Ponder has elite stuff if he stays healthy.

    The man Jared has to watch out for right now is Demarcus Ware of the Cowboys, who just snuck in behind Jared this week with 4-shots on Vick behind the line, giving him half a sack less than Jared’s 12.5 for the year. So keep it up Jared! You have competition!

    I also think you’re spot-on about Chris Johnson. For some reason, everyone seems to be giving him the benefit of the doubt and continue to say he’ll bounce back…next week. Just take a look at fantasy projections. He gets horrible fantasy numbers every week, but he is always projected to get around 20-points for a fantasy team. I don’t know who is in charge of putting those predictions up, but they need to re-evaluate their system. I’m just glad I took AP when I had the choice between the 2!

    @ Parody……..yeah your right, Ware is a beast and always have been, Babin is havin a great year as well!

    Arian Foster i think i hear about ALL THE TIME! I agree he is great, but he hasnt been in the top 2 or 3 in anything this year…… The vikes top players you will only hear about on their brodcast (when they are playing) You watch other football games you will hear about everyone , except top performers such as Pederson and Allen! I get tired of the no love, yes we tend to be jokes once and a while!

    Check this out…..we have no real deep threat…right? and Adrian is still leading the league………….thats hard to do period!!!! Alen also has 2 + ints! BAM!

    @Nova and Titus,

    Lots of imitators on here. It’s too bad people have to be so selfish. They ruin things for everyone else.

    How can we talk and debate if there are two Novas and two Titus’.

    @Titus,

    I would tend to agree with you that the Green Bay game could be a confidence builder if the Vikings win it.

    But it is a game where lots of injuries could take place as well.

    We’ll have to get to Rodgers quickly and often. Right now, I’m not sure how we are going to do that.

    Frederick, you know my voice. Tell me honestly, if you cannot tell who is real and who is not. Well, we have two weeks to prepare for Green Bay– Ponder will be at his third week and his second view of the Packers– so I think we have a shot. Hopefully, the Chargers will wear them down some on Sunday.

    Titus – I think you are being a bit too optimistic again. We had a shot against the Packers in the first meeting mostly because we had the homefield advantage. That makes a big difference. I’d love to see us win one in Green Bay, especially with a rookie at the helm, but the odds are much more against us than they were in our house.

    I read an article in yesterdays edition of the MN Star Tribune that stated if Winfield isn’t ready to go when we get back from the bye that their considering starting Allen over Griffin. I know that the general consensus on here is neither but who do should get the start if Winfield can’t go.

    *who do you think should get the start.

  122. By dave on Nov 2, 2011 | Reply

    Allen. he barely beats Griffin in the tallest midget contest.

    Ponder definitely is the real deal !!!! Remember the Vikings in their history rarely ever had 2 losing seasonsn a row. Time to draft a few good secondary players or get them in a trade. Vikings will be back.

    We need to win a superbowl, so lets go forward, not back to mediocrity. We’ve been to the playoffs enough just to give it up easy in the big game. We need a superbowl Period. Or go ahead and move to LA.
