Asked Frazier the same questain, that I have asked at least 87 times…Why is Peterson set up for his run what looks like 10 miles back behind the QB….

The linebackers are arguably the backbone of this defense, yet many quarterbacks find success throwing over the middle. Is there any plan to solidify this area? Could the safeties be brought forward to put them in better position to help the linebackers out?

    Coach,

It seems that the team is in a predictable pattern of running Peterson up the middle on first downs– and the majority of the time for little or no gain. Do you agree that this has become an odds-against strategy, and maybe we should vary the first down calls?

    Thanks–
    Steven

Sorry everyone– just mis-posted the question to the wrong link. Comment if you feel, however.

why do the vikings suck so much at life?

    Coach Frazier

Me and like every fan that comments on monday morning mailbagvhave been asking the same question since forever and were not getting a reasonable answer and I’m getting tired of watching my team get torch on sundays because certain players can’t play or just don’t show up. We have been talking about the defensive secondary week in and week out but still we continue to see players who aren’t making plays starting on the field our team is ranked 31st in pass defense and were seeing the same players get torch every week and they continue to start like it isn’t an issue. When you took the job you said we would be rebuilding in certain positions I for one believe DB should’ve been one of the primary position to start rebuilding on, our best DB is 30+ years old suffering injury our other starter just can’t get right after coming back from injury, and our 3rd DB has yet to prove he should be on the field he gets picked on anytime he touches the field but he keeps getting more chances while our young players rot on the bench at least they showed some promise and potential unlike Asher Allen and Tyrell Johnson ever since we drafted them, and Cedric Griffin after the injury. My question is when are we going to see some positive changes on the secondary?

Mike J…Save your time and effort, Frazier can not understand your very good comments, even if you hit him along side his head with them…

    @ deer tracks

I think if all of us fans start commenting and expressing ourselves they’ll have to listen that’s why I always write about what I like and don’t like about our team.

Coach is there any way to get the vikings secondary to step up when they need to. We need to make sure we win by ability instead of by luck.

  13. By Rod on Oct 31, 2011 | Reply

I think we should add some more screens in the game plan, percy harvin and aadrian peterson have the capability of taking it the distance everytime

  14. By Immureglass21 on Oct 31, 2011 | Reply

Rez507- They haven’t made a trade because the trade deadline passed a couple weeks ago. And also the Vikings don’t have alot of Cap Room to afford a good veteren cb. So we’re stuck with what we got until the post season or if the can find a good affordable CB on the waiver wire.

  15. By Immureglass21 on Oct 31, 2011 | Reply

Mike J- It’s not Coach Frazier who reads and answers the question in the Monday Mailbag. It’s Mike Wob. who answers those questions so that’s why we don’t get reasonable answers.

Say why not get T.O? he is free, probably cheap and a big target for ponder. He would also draw double coverage which would leave your tight ends and backs and wide outs more open?

  17. By okiewan on Oct 31, 2011 | Reply

Say, why not get T.O he is free apparently not loved and would probably draw double coverage and he is a big target for ponder. if he adds to the team any at all he should be worth a gamble?

    Coach,

Is there a reason the offense runs the quick hit pass to a receiver during the first series? Seems predictable and is almost intercepted or tipped each time.

I commend your decison to release BB. I know it must have been difficult especailly with his speed downfield, but he was not producing and it weasn’t just this year. I don’t envy you as you address the cornerback situation. In my humble opinion there are a couple of cornrbacks who need to be released, Cedric Griffin and Asher Allen. I know Chris Cook has some issue but I believe he can be reformed with your coaching.

Bottom Line: I have been a Vikings fan for over 30 years and it just seems like we cannot get it right on both sides of the ball. Either we are score 35 points but can’t stop anyone one or we only score 3 points and can stop them at 7 points. I trust you will get it together.

Some of the guys on here mentioned T.O. go and get him. Also i said in my last blog go get Leigh Boden. He can play and can most likely play better then Asher Allen.
Just do the right thing and do what is being said. If you guys do what is being said you will be winning games. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

can we expect to see joe webb more in our following games. maybe in a wildcat formation with a.p, percy and booker in the slot. i think it would be effective because all 4 can run and catch and webb is obviously a solid passer.

When are you going to teach the DB’s how to play fundamental football? On Sunday, Allen lined up against Smith and instead of trying to alter his route or slow him down he just let him run his route and score a TD. The vikings have quality players but they do not play fundamentally sound football.

Our pass defense made it on “COME ON MAN” the other day……thats a sign, we need change big-a-time!!!! But………happy to see Ponder still in, BB cut, and cook not on the field (even though he has done a schosh better this year)

The vikes secondary sucks, why dont we pick up Leigh Bodden??

  24. By AK on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

with the lack of depth at wide out… and seeing webb was drafted to potentially be a receiver… is there any thinking in the front office that moving webb to wideout would make a good move? seeing as he is often talked about as the best athlete on this team, is sucks to see him on the bench when there are so many options to have his hands on the ball… i can understand possibly wanting to keep him a qb, but with ponder blowing up as of late the option to have webb under center is looking slim to non unless two major qb injuries… as a huge vikes fan forever. can we please get webb wide right jenkins wide left and percy in the slot… please? ha

hey coach do you have a lan to fix the vikings secondary {safeties and corners} because what you have now is just awful and embarasing

  26. By Stoney on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

With the season over (lets face it, it’s over) the fans want to see the young guys in to see if they are any good. I’m sure the team wants to see that also. Why not play the young “D” secondary and WR’s (including Joe Webb), and “O” line guys. This is the perfect time to try. Hopefully next season we will be competing for a playoff spot! Thanx for letting us see Ponder, now we’re hungry for more!

  27. By Steve on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

Can AP function as a WR? Seems like the other teams would have to tie up 2-3 players down field to cover him.

  28. By Fran the Man on Nov 1, 2011 | Reply

Where the heck is Joe Webb? With our lack of a #1 WR why in the world is Webb sitting on the bench?
Also It is SO frustrating to watch a team that is so loaded with talent at most positions and then see us blow game after game through the incompetence of our secondary. Obviously Asher and Griffin are not what we need. Why not give some of our rookies a shot? They couldn’t do any harm at this point in the season and it would serve to get them some game experience and also tell us what we’ve got.

Coach, How does Donavan McNabb feel about coming to a new team and being benched after the first few weeks? How was his attitude been in practice during the week and on the sideline on gamedays?

Will the offense ever run the flee flicker play with AD and Ponder? I think Percy would be miles behind the defense if they did.

hey coach. against carolina our secondary looked really weak… is that just because we’re down on chris cook? our were there injuries? have you considered picking up a free DB?

  34. By Vikes Stink on Nov 2, 2011 | Reply

Hey Leslie, why are the Vikings not bringing in Pat Wiilliams and looking at Cornerbacks and Safeties? Can you explain why the safeties play so far away from the receive? Your coacking/staff stinks.

    Coach,

I know T.O. has some mouth issues that you don’t want to deal with but we need a deep threat!, we have no deep recieving core since you got rid of sidney rice. should of sent BB to seattle and kept sidney. Get us a deep threat as soon as possible, we are not spreading their defense cause every team knows we can’t go deep!

Even though the trade deadline is up I was wondering why not trade for the Eagles CB Asante Samuel would take. He seems to be a good fit for a soft cover two since he likes to jump routes. Maybe could’ve given up Greenway even though he helps with the run. The Eagles needed a LB and you guys need good zone cover corner. That being my only question I love your willingness to cut players who aren’t contributing or showing up. Everyone might be calling for some of these cuts premature but I get the evaluation process and the do what you can with what you have until you can do something about it.
