Mr. Hippe’s Weather Report

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 16, 2011 – 6:21 pm

The Vikings are playing an outdoor game on the road tonight, so that means we must call upon our friend Mr. Hippe for his trusty weather report. With tonight’s game in Chicago, the weather becomes even more of a factor than in most locations.

Mr. Hippe’s checked in with a kickoff report of 54 degrees and northwest winds of 10 miles per hour, gusting up to 15 at times.

Sounds like a pretty good night for football. Let’s play!

I have a feeling that either McNabb has a big game tonight, or we will see Ponder make his regular season debut. I don’t know.

I’m not going to panic yet. That dropped pass was on Shaincoe. But the problem I see is that Jared Allen is getting double-teamed, which is no surprise considering the Bears are avoiding a disaster.

our pass D has been suspect since as long as I can remember…….I was concerned about this, but was hopeful and silent………well, this TD was too easy for CHI………

I think we need to get used to being in last place and forget any thoughts of having a championship season for a long time. Our secondary sucks, we are in dire need of a QB, our O-line is getting old/slow, and the coaching sucks. I am not sure what needs to be done, but we are definetly done for years to come. It will take us YEARS to build a championship team. I think the Vikings need a total rehaul from the top to the bottom. This team has become a joke from the executive office down to the players. Their is no leadership and desire anymore. I think they should move to Los Angeles… I am turning off the television…. Good night…..

@SmileyStar. Thank you for the sanity. McNabb ain’t exactly a ball of fire but this team is terribly coached. Musgrave looks befuddled on the sideline and Frazier looks, well, Frazier looks the same as always. No emotion and arms folded. What we have on this team is a great rb (AD) and a great pass rusher (Allen). Other than them and Greenway, I say clean house. I do think it’s time to throw Ponder to the wolves and see what he’s got. McNabb is old and Webb is just flat out terrible at throwing the football. I honestly don’t expect much from Ponder but I’m ready to start rebuilding right now. P.S. – Great job letting Sidney Rice get away vike management.

His poise alone in soldier field says something about his character. I really think we should play this kid for the rest of the season. We might be looking at the next Tark here with that footwork. Please let Ponder be the starter from here on out. He looked so much better back there. Even when he was getting incompletions, he was giving his players a chance to catch the ball – or he was making it clear that he was throwing the ball away instead of pretending to try to get it to someone and throwing it 5-yards short.

  469. By Jeffbleedspurple on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Frazier is a %*#^ #&% hole, take out McNabb, put in Ponder and then takes out the rest if the starting offense weapons, I was wondering why suddenly we were also seeing Camarillo. Ponder looked good even without the starters.

Sorry to say it but these clowns continually show the fans that they have no focus. They shank punts, give up a safety, give up 5 sacks, drop would be interceptions, commit false starts on field goal attempts, get turned around in coverage, give up 98 yard kick returns, Hey Spielman I heard they need a manager at a Subway in my neighborhood. Why don’t you apply?

  472. By rye on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

    Ponder needs to start.

    He is better than Mcnabb.

This has nothing to do with whether or not the season is over. It is obvious, the vikings have a better chance of winning with ponder.

Ponder had two drives and threw for 99 yards!!!!!

  476. By Brad on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

At least Ponder can hit his target when need be unlike McNabb with his favorite receiver, the one and only “ground.”

  477. By Twoodsnvikes on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Ponder is great, lets get Blackmon in the draft next year and give him a true #1 receiver

  478. By SmileyStar on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

We don’t use Percy for kick returns, when we need to score fast? Berrian is our target when we have Jenkins and Devin? We run the ball, even when the opposing team is putting everyone in the box? Ponder is going to be eaten alive next week, he’s not ready for our o-line and our horrendous game plans. maybe all the starters for the pack will get a food-borne illness. PREDICTION: Webb will be the starting QB by the end of the season

  479. By Parody on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Maybe it was because Ponder has been practicing with all the backups for the past 5-weeks, so he’s more familiar with their style of play. Get him some reps with the first team, and maybe the coach will feel comfotable with him throwing to the first team in the game.

Anyone see Mcnabbs mom get up and leave? She couldn’t see him implode anymore… It is about time this change occured. Ponder is going to do well. Berrian actually showed up…. wow… freakin miracle …. Now, if we could just get our pass defense to show up…

  489. By Twoodsnvikes on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Take Emmanuel Arceneaux off the practice roster and give Ponder a speedy, reliable deep-threat to throw to. Arceneaux played in the CFL for two years and was a headache for opposing teams.

Do we get two 1st round picks next year for losing Sidney?

  493. By Parody on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

From what I saw tonight, our biggest concern in the draft should be the OLine. We have good enough receivers now that if we can just get Ponder some protection, he has the skills and intelligence to start ripping defenses apart.

  494. By Twoodsnvikes on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

And this is just my opinion because I know Oline is very important and there’s a big difference between good and bad Oline men as our team clearly shows, but it seems like it’s easier to make a 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounder Olinemen good and get a very talented WR than the other way around, because clearly our WR core is embarrassing right now as well, we need to be able to score….

  496. By Parody on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

@troutdaddy – I predicted Berrian would *almost* show up this week. 5 catches for 60~ish yards was my prediction, and I think I counted 5-times that he caught the ball. Just enough to keep the problem on the field for a few more weeks instead of moving the team ahead with the younger, more talented receivers.

DRS– don’t put words in my mouth. I never said we would be 8-8. I am either all in, or all out. I give it one more game. After we beat the Pacers next week, I think we will all feel a lot better.

  500. By mr smiff on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Ponder looked good, albeit in a garbage quarter. He eluded tackles, made plays, and drove the ball well. He definitely outplayed McNabb tonight. However, until this o-line is revamped, I am not comfortable with him or Webb playing. Such a dilemma…

  501. By stew on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

@two i figured oline in the 1st round because we need the best of the best, someone who can come in and start right away. You can have the best wrs in the NFL but without oline they are useless.

  502. By Twoodsnvikes on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

  507. By Twoodsnvikes on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Yeah I think it’s a toss up stew, with Ponder’s wheels if he had a big wide receiver he could just chuck it to that it would be great, but at the same time if he had all the time in the pocket and we had say, Harvin, jenkins, arom, camarillo, areceneau, shank, and rudolf to throw to that Ponder could do some real damage, so I see it both ways

  508. By DuaneN on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

There goes Titus with his “wasted my time” stuff. I love that.

Okay time for Ponder, changed my mind about Webb, forgot how bad Webb is. King of the overthrow.

That safety should be the end for McNabb. Such a baby terrified of getting hit.

Cutler played well. Wasn’t hard to see coming. Happens every year lately. Bears get owned last week and then do everything right against the Vikings.

Best post here is “Of course it’s wide.” Nice one SaltyDog.

  509. By SmileyStar on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

I would have been impressed if Ponder could find the end zone. TDs in the passing game is what we are missing. If completions meant anything Mcnabb would have job security. We just don’t rely on our passing game, it’s too easy for other teams to stop us. How do you stop the Vikings? You stop AD. We have no answer for that. Frazier will be gone if we get toasted at home next week.

  510. By mr smiff on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

I just watched Frazier’s presser the day after the Arizona game.

He did not say even ONE WORD about the offensive line !

It seems that our coaching staff is like the worst fan, they don’t regard the offensive line as being important !

If that is true, it explains why the Vikings are 1-5 at this point.

  517. By Mike B. on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Wow what a loss that was in your face you guys aren’t very good type of loss. Frazier said it well we did not play good. He didn’t commit to QB change and McNabb thinks he’s definately the starter. At this point I wouldn’t see the team aquiring anyone through the draft. One exception might be an offensive lineman if they were on the block. No point to get Moss or TO as we are not going to be in the playoffs. Time to set McNabb down and tell him we are going to start our #1 draft pick and give him the option on what he wants to do. I am not sure how good of mentor he will be. I thing Berrian played well enough, but I would see if there was any interest on the trading block. I would bring the CFLer off the practice squad and put in him. I think Cris Cook has played well enough that he should be a full time starter. I agree about mixing the other guys. I am not sure what’s up with Griffen. Time to go into rebuild mode. Take care Hope to win in the Dome I hate the Packers.

Now it’s probably too late to get another good offensive lineman to

Ponder’s scrambling was amazing. But a lot of bloggers did
say Webb or Ponder should start from the beginning. Waiting may have
helped Ponder, but hurt the team W-L wise.

@ Fred We have been using that TE bunch so many times this year that the crossing routes are handled by the TEs. All that TE bunch does is move the Defense in as they know we are going to run the ball and most of the time the TEs have to keep back to block and can’t get open. The offensive coordnator should be fired it’s too predictable even Al Michals could tell what we were doing.

  536. By Mike B. on Oct 16, 2011 | Reply

Ponder played the perfect example of throwing the ball all over the field. He looked found open receiver and threw the ball. No over thinking. I think McNabb over thinks the game and not willing to just throw the ball down field.

stew – No, the first round tender did not hold up. The new CBA allowed players to become unrestricted free agents after their third year.

On the positive side though, we are likely to get some compensatory picks this year. From the loss of Rice and Edwards, and to a smaller extent, TJack, we should be getting at least a couple of later picks in the 5th or 6th round. It’s too bad that other players like McKinnie and Madeiu Williams were just straight out cut though. I’m pretty sure that compensatory picks don’t factor into players who didn’t complete their original contracts. I think both of those players are full time starters in their new teams, which would have given us even more selections if their contracts had been managed better.
