The Vikings are 31st in the NFL in passing yards per game and 3rd in runniing yards per game. Is McNabb’s passimg ability the reason for being 31st? Can the Vikings have a winning season with this passing statistic?

why is Frazire still our coach when it is very clear has no idea what he is doing plaese inform me of this because i as well as many viking fans whnt to no???????????????????get rid of him .we hate him…he’s a liar!

First let me congratulate Coach Frazier on making the best call of the season, benching Berrian! With that said, we need to move on! Is there some concern by Frazier if he benched McNabb that he would ruin someone’s reputation? Will McNabb already has done that himself, before he even came to Minnesota, McNabb’s ship is still sinking, but now he is taking you with him, Coach Frazier! Trust me when I say we won’t hate you if you pull him to put in Ponder. You’re on the right track, keep it going!
I know Ponder is a kid, but I think he can handle taking some hits.

Talks here already that Berrian is finished, done! I don’t think Berrian has any trade value :) what do you think they will do with him?

Mike I asked you during the game about Petersons game stalling in the 2nd half, you said it was, because the defense was keying on him more, can you contribute that to lack of a passing game?

    Mike Wobschall,

Clearly today has proven Bernard Berrian is useless. We have finally strengthened the weakest link. Aromashadu in his first game taking Berrians snaps outproduced Berrian’s whole year. In not even including the first 4 games which Aromoshadu with little opportunity still out produced Berrian.

My question is has Frazier figured it out or will he allow Berrian to continue hurting our chances to win in the future?

Mike, now that the coaches have seen the results of benching Berrian and once again witnessing poor play from McNabb. When can we expect a change up at QB?

    Mike Wobschall,

The idea for an organization is to improve from week to week through the season. We finally strengthened the weakest link and benched Berrian. Will coach Frazier continue to fix the chain because today one person clearly showed he does not deserve a starting job for an organization looking to win.

Will Coach Frazier open his eyes during the Donovan McNabb film study and see what the rest of us see?

Mcnabb is the weakest link now and needs to be replaced NOW !!!! Will Coach do the right thing?

    Mike Wobschall,

Donovan McNabb was 10-21 for 169yrds and 0TDs. I saw at least 5 pa-sses that were thrown in the ground in front of open receivers. One time the receiver was 5 yards from McNabb and the pa-ss landed 2 yards in front of the receiver.

McNabb is a 13ish year veteran that cant throw 5 yards …

Are Joe Webb and our 1st round pick Chri-stian Ponder that bad?

    Mike Wobschall,

When McNabb rolled out and Shiancoe was WIDE open and McNabb threw the ball behind Shank in the dirt why was McNabb laughing at being booed?

Why does Frazier allow our weakest link to show no concern for his poor performance?

Why is Donovan McNabb allowed to disrespect Frazier by not caring about failing on that play. I know donovan didnt care on that play because he threw it in the dirt and his reaction was to laugh because he was beeing booed…

WHY IS MCNABB ON THIS TEAM ????????????????????????

    Shawn

  45. By CanadianVF on Oct 9, 2011 | Reply

Coaches make decisions on who they think can give them the best chance to win each week. Mcnabb has a track record in the NFL while Ponder does not. I had hoped that Mcnabb would get better each week as he got comfortable with the offence, but it obviously is not happening. Watching Tebow finally get a chance and almost pulling out a win for Denver makes me want to see the same thing happen for the Vikings. Maybe it is time to start looking to the future.

  46. By Dirty Nasty Legs on Oct 9, 2011 | Reply

I wonder how much Vegas (the gambling city not vegasvike) has been paying Mcnabb to throw these games (No pro quarterback could really be that bad could they) and how much money he lost today because AP and the defense wouldn’t let him throw the game no matter how hard he tried.

Since mike wont answer you i will if i may.The owner,mr.wilf says to keep playing mcnabb, although he is on a short leash. The reason why mcnabb stayed in was to get him more reps with the offense, rem now we r paying him 5 million for this year. The owner does not want to bench a person 5 million a year unless he knows the season is lost. While fraiser is the coach, all go through the owner as decisions are made.Mr.wilf also wanted mcnabb also,he recommended this to fraiser.,not vice versa.Hopefully this will add some insight to all of you wanting mcnabb to be benched.

WHY IS DONOVAN MCNABB STARTING ?????????????????????

  82. By Viking Insider on Oct 9, 2011 | Reply

As someone else pointed out,the decision is up to mr.wilf like i also said. You do not bench a qb making 5 million/year unless the season is lost or mgmt.issues, aka see wash. The owner wanted mcnabb not fraiser. Also yes ponder is no.2,and webb is no.3 If you could see the pratices you would realise this,i dont but have people who do.Ponder will get starts, but mcnabb is not 100%of the problem either. Some of the other issues are being fixed, then mcnabb is not better,mr.wilf will consider this a bad sign and go with webb/ponder combo.

Here, let me throw a wet blanket on this party…

Unless Frazier starts Ponder soon (unlikely), he’s not going to have enough time to get settled before we need him in the second half of the season when the schedule stiffens up. This win just bought McNabb another few weeks at the helm, regardless of how bad he played. Our D might tee off on Cutler next week, but their D is going to load up on the line and force McNabb to throw under pressure. Going to be tough.

Wow what a win guys. I mentioned as early as Monday we will win this weekend. The team looked much better today. McNabb was throwing all over the field today. Some of his throws were not great, but didn’t hurt us either. Receivers were doing well. AP got his runs. The Defense what can you say they provide the spark for this win. Turn overs should equal touchdowns and it did today. Enough was done in the second half to keep the Cards from coming back. This was a complete game and 60mins were played. We go to Chicago and have to repeat this performance. A win against a division opponent will show if we have turned the corner or not. Congrats to Coach Fraizer and the Team Barroooohhh.

  199. By Mike B. on Oct 9, 2011 | Reply

@vikes rule The score may have not shown it but we didn’t quit in the second half. They played hard moved the sticks and kept the defensive line off the field enough to rest. The Defense stopped the cards on critical downs an only allowed 1 touchdown all game. That’s a complete game. I suppose the only way you would be satisfied if they scored another 28 in the second half. They played well enough to maintain the lead and didn’t make critical mistakes to give the game away in the second half again a complete game. Now you can get off my tushie. It’s a win and that’s all you need.

Fans for weeks has been saying Berrian sucks and Devin should take his place. Now weeks later Frazier is getting compliments on benching Berrian. Seriously? A blind man could tell Berrian is washed up and worthless. Frazier is a good guy, but no way is he ready to be head coach. Look, we all know McNabb will not last the season and eventually Ponder will start. The only thing is it takes Frazier twice as long to figure these things out. Watch game film, watch sportscenter. Everyone is already saying McNabb is done and the Eagles and Redskins were smart to get rid of him.

The Cards were not able to keep 8 in the box as much to cover the receivers. It is just as possible the offense is starting to gel. We got Chicago next week let’s see what happens. I liked what I saw today. I think we could be turning around the corner. It is possible later in the season when we are offically out of it we put in Ponder or Webb and see what they have till then I am willing to give Coach Frazier the benefit of the doubt. Does the vikings coaching staff watch video? Thank goodness they finally benched Berrian and started Aromoshodu! In one game Aromoshodu made more catches for more yards than Berrian has all season.

Now, if Ponder is not ready, it’s time to start Webb! 99% of fans demand it and almost all the anaylists see that Mcnabb is bad for this team. Nothing against Mcnabb, but a coach should be looking out for the entire team. If Ponder is not ready, there is no doubt that Webb is a more accurate and more athletic passer than Mcnabb.

It’s time for a QB change if the vikings are serious about turning this around!

Giants and tampa bay lost… they are both 3-2. This pretty much means the vikes are only 2 games behind these two teams for a wild card spot. ITS EARLY AND THERE IS HOPE.

    @Thai929,

I agree with you on the OL and DBs. If an NFL qb has time, has receivers open (most of the time, not necessarily all the time), he will burn your defense.

I don’t care if he is Charlie Whitehurst, Bobby Douglass, or Tiger Woods (okay maybe not Tiger Woods).

McNabb is not playing like a great qb right now, and he should be relieved when he cannot pass in the 4th period.

The Vikings need to DRAFT better.

  240. By Mike B. on Oct 9, 2011 | Reply

I think that Coach Frazier doesn’t want to add to this McNabb hating by putting in Ponder even with the big lead. The coach has loyalty to his players and doesn’t want a QB contriversy here. He let McNabb play out the game. If the Cards defense was getting after McNabb at that point he may have got pulled. I don’t see Coach going away from McNabb until we are eliminated from the playoffs. Just how I see it.

  241. By thai929 on Oct 9, 2011 | Reply

mcnabb is still starting just to line up the offense? Yeah, Peyton and Brady are only good QBs because of this. Everyone always compliments them on lining up the offense. If this is what mcnabb does, put a headset on him so he can tell Ponder.

Mike B– I agree, let’s see what happens in Chicago– what I am advocating may be a little different than the other bloggers– I am saying we should have played each of our backup QBs for a few drives in the fourth quarter when it was obvious our D and the score ensured we had the game in control– give them some playing time— perfect time, because the nest three games before the Bye could be very tough. Chilly put TJack in many times late in the game when Favre and Co had it won– give Ponder some snaps. Why not?

LOL most know here my thoughts on Joe Webb. He was brought in here by Childress as a WR and wildcat player. He has shown some talent as a QB last years training camp, co Chilly made him a 3rd string QB. Rosenfiels found another team so he’s elevated to number 2. He is another Childress experiement and I don’t think the coaches see him as a NFL starter. His what they want him for a Wildcat player. Has tremendous talent to get out of situations with his feet. He could be a good WR. Why do you go after a QB in the first round the next Draft, if you think you have your QB of the future in the house.. I do alot more than just watch the games. I read about the team all year.

Titus, Mcnabb hasn’t shined in 1.5 seasons of NFL football. Washington was not a joke. He is playing the same way he did there.

Webb closed out the season last year at 3-2 and is very athletic. If Ponder is not ready, it only makes sense to start Webb to give the Vikings the best shot at winning.

The fans are getting upset because anyone with a brain can see it. Mcnabb costs the team 3-6 plays a game. He misses Wide Open receivers that much!

@Webb he was the Number 2 QB after Farve last year and in fact Farve said he could play and was started instead of Webb. I still stand why draft Ponder if Webb is already on your team. I am spot on on this one. Obviously Coach Frazier wasn’t sold on starting Webb an entire season and wanted to Draft a QB of the future. Frazier even quoted that after the Draft. Also shows where Webb is at. We will see toward the end of the season which gets started. I am sure. I don’t think we will be able to get past these 4 losses. Till then I will stay on top of the rock. TJack and Webb are Childress experiments and I am not sold on either. Without Ferrote in 08 we would have never got to the playoffs even though chilly was sold on TJack.

First off it is great to see our guys get a win and our defense was top notch throughout the game. Our offense scored 28 points in the first quarter and six the rest of the game, is this an indicator that there are still some bugs to work out in our second half offense?

Also we went into the fourth quarter with a 21-point lead, which McNabb was an important part of attaining, but why not let him rest with under nine minutes to go and give one of our other guys (who are under contract past this season) a chance to take some snaps? After that point most plays were just giving it to AP anyways.

Okay i am going to be an eye opener for all of you. I Saw Ponder play in person last year and let me tell you he is not that good. He has no arm strength what so ever. I think his career long throw in a practice was 52 yards i can throw a football 63 yards down the field. If we have to bench McNabb witch we are not going to we will play Webb. I thought it was stupid that we drafted Ponder in the first round what a waste of a first round pick if you ask me. I thought that we need to get a wide out or a DB i wanted Amukamara out of Nebraska. Our DL is playing great we are getting to the QB just fine we need to stop the pass. We need to cut Berrian for T.O. and we need to play Aromashaghda more and i think we will be fine. If you guys disagree with what i said then feel free to comment but i know what i am talking about i had to turn down 2 scholarships for college football due to injuries and they were to big name schools. I played QB for 7 years. I had to turn down a full ride to Boise State, and Virginia Tech. So please take my word for it. Go get T.O. trade for a good CB or go get Moss back he would love to play with McNabb. You do these things and we will win games. GOOOOOOOOOOOO VIKINGS.

    Hi Mike,

A good performance yesterday from the team and a much needed win. However, how much was this due to playing a poor team in the Cardinals. I’d like to give credit to our players but 3 turnovers from poor Kolb throws and a ridiculous fumble is the main reason we won and i believe this W is just papering over the cracks. What do you think?

    Regards

The win was much needed , however that being said McNabb’s performance was terrible again, But as a result of the team winning the game he will undoubtedly start against the Bears. One thing is for sure if he plays the way he did against the Cardinals we will get destroyed. So I guess my question Mike is, why doesn’t Frazier see what the fans see or is he still watching old film on Donovan McNabb when he was an Eagle?

I don’t think it’s a matter of Frazier not seeing what the fans see. It’s a matter of Frazier believing that the mistakes McNabb is making are correctable and also believing that McNabb will indeed make those corrections. If that’s what Frazier believes, then I believe it, too. I support whatever decisions he makes.

My opinion is that McNabb should be allowed to start against the bears, but at the first sense of non-accomplishment, he should be replaced….and I do not see any harm in Webb getting a chance… Take a lesson from Denver. Tebow should have been in, way before they put him in.

I still have serious questions about our strategy to try and correct the mechanics of a 13 year veteran QB…….let’s see the mecahnics of our young QBs and try to make corrections with them…….

Great Win! The Team came together to pay past the 2nd half which leads me to this question. Since the offensive plan was to feed a very sucessful AD and limit the amount of passing from the QB, as the NFL analyst states it was reason to calm the Bench McNabb and the Ponder-backers. Why not put Ponder in? He could have done what McNabb was doing. I do not get it?

Im like everyone else,,mcnab is bad. But should we turn it over to ponder or give web a chance, he played well at the end of last year.

Hey U guys – How many interceptions did McNabb have??Did he do well to escape the rush and hit #19 back accrost the field…Does he get rattled and give turnovers?? give me a break,,,he’s doing better than anyone we have to put out there!!!

  348. By Bob on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

Mcnab does good the 1st half!! is he to OLD to go the “Distance” ?? can we put in “Fresh” meat the 2nd half ??? i.e. Webb or Ponder

  349. By Jeffbleedspurple on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

McNabb writes his own checks, that’s why he is still getting paid for doing nothing.

  350. By Jeffbleedspurple on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

@vikingrob22: when the ball is so poorly thrown that it goes in to the dirt, not even the defense can catch them does not say a lot and sorry to say, but so far McNabb is the only QB that’s been out there, this is what all the complaining is about.

    Mike Wobschall,

Mc-loser did not lead this team to victory it was AP & Allen, why you are on his side I do not know.

#1 question is what will the Vikings do when the state of MN refuses to help in getting the Vikings their new stadium?

  353. By vinny on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

after the ist period the offense didn’t do anything. the team needed to get the killer instinct

  354. By Tinkerbell09 on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

okay … let me get this right, we let Favre retire, then we pull in McNabb (Henceforth known as McBad), to do what be Favre’s 2010 replacement?? Webb, didn’t do to bad last season after Farve for all intensive purposes quit. We never need McBad, Why didn’t we start Webb, why did we sign McBad, And why in the Heck haven’t we seen Ponder? I want to know what this guy has to offer the team! Let the kid play! it is the only real way to learn!

We have been implementing new mechanism for Mcnabb while he is in the pocket, we are asking him to throw hail mary on all the pass so it will reach the receiver standing just 5 yards from Mcnabb. Apparently even Mcnabb’s hail mary pass is 1 yard short of the receiver, so we are considering some short pass options to the OL.

Think smart fans! We have a must win game next week in front of a national tv audience. Chicago’s Def front and linebackers are relentless at home. Not the ideal time to make a QB change. I will agree with Wobs on this one, let Frazier make the right choice

  357. By BC on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

McNabb’s numbers are NOT getting better. If they were, I would hold out some faith after Sunday’s win vs. Arizona. I’ve seen the throws everybody else has. Something is fundamentally wrong with his passing. You can’t keep chalking it up to ‘chemistry’ and ‘timing’ and things ‘to clean up this week.’ It’s obviously way beyond that. Coach Frazier must’ve had some faith in Ponder to spend #12 draft pick on him! Maybe Coach is not thinking with his mind, but rather his sense of misplaced loyalty to McFlab, or maybe a Childress-esque unwillingness to admit error. Anway, Chicago ain’t gonna be no Arizona.

  358. By Tinkerbell09 on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

Think smart … okay … we all know as said perviously that McBad’s number’s aren’t getting better, 2) my Husband and i both agree that i can throw a ball better than McBad, yes with all the nitty gritty details added in there. 3) you can sit there and say all you want that it’s not the right time to change a QB, my question to you is when is a good time?? maybe it’s when you 1-6, or 2-9 or maybe it’s the last game of the season and you don’t care. How are you ever going to find out who really has what it takes. Us as fans know that there are risks to everything, the McBad risk isn’t paying out, we see that and so should the coaches & Owners. If he can’t catch change to a running offence, or better yet sit him on the bench. Either way at this point what can it hurt? It can’t hurt as bad as 1-5 start.

correction 1-4 start… got ahead of myself there

Why does Percy Harvin only touch the ball twice in the last game? He is our second besy Off. weapon and not used at all. What a waste of this man’s talents!

  361. By sandiamond on Oct 10, 2011 | Reply

Tinkerbell we will still be in the wildcard playoff hunt next week with a win against Chicago. Why change the entire chemistry of the offense now with such a big game coming up? Surely we will slide Ponder or Webb in the game soon enough but not this week imo

  362. By McHam on Oct 11, 2011 | Reply

You guys don’t have a clue about winning football. Except for the 1st game your QB McNabb has played winning football. McNabb is a winning QB that plays the game the way it should be played. Don’t turnover the football and play field position. The Defense step up yesterday by don’t giving up the field position which McNabb has establish.

Tinkerbell….I am sure you make good points but I didn’t listen because I don’t listen to women talk about football.
Sandimond you are an idiot. We are 1-4….time to change QB. Time to try to build the future….wildcard hunt? The lions and packers are 4-0. McNabb can’t complete a pass. A monkey can hand the ball off.

  364. By Smarter then our staff on Oct 11, 2011 | Reply

    Pardon me they are 5-0

  365. By Tinkerbell09 on Oct 12, 2011 | Reply

Smarter .. not my fault i know more about football than you do, and it’s okay to be butt hurt, most men like you are.

Anyway. Now is the best time to change quarter backs.
    1) we have to win nearly every game for the rest of regular season, or hope that everyone else in the division decides to let their cheerleaders play.
    2) McBad will not be getting better and i can say that without some unseen divine intervention, we will not be going to the play offs.
    3) if Allen gets hurt, we have virtually, no glue to our defense. and it will be a downward spiral from there.
    4) It’s McBad for crying out loud … as stated earlier his season so far is just a repeat of Favre’s last season. Who wants to see that 2 years in a row.
    5) We actually have to show up to the rest of the game rather than just the first and maybe parts of the second quarter.
    6) This requires us to beat Chicago to begin with. So i’m gunna break this down the way i do for my 7 year old. Score the most points in all 4 quarters to win, Never let them get the ball, and when they have it … take it from them. “But mom you said i have to share!” So i told him Football is one of the few sports you don’t want to share. I really don’t see this happening much … The Vikings share more than they should.

Watching the pressers on McDrab I continually hear him saying “I don’t listen to the criticism, just focus on the next game”.He takes no responsibility for his throwing and my distinct impression and intuitive sense tells me he is just grateful that a team was dumb enough to bite by taking him and that he realizes his time is over,no legs,no arm.He doesn’t care about this team, just making a last season paycheck. He’s probably just as stunned as the fans that he hasn’t been pulled. And Frazier, how animated is he?!?!?Just stands there during the game,a blank page with no expression and sense of determination.I wonder how that translates over to the team.Ponder could do better. He has something to prove while McDrabb can’t prove anything.Yes Frazier will go down holding onto McDrabb.

This season is lost with McDrabb.
