Can Jared Allen Record His 100th Career Sack In 2011?

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 5, 2011 – 8:20 am

Through the first 7 games of the 2010 season, it looked like Vikings DE Jared Allen was at least a couple seasons away from reaching the impressive career milestone of 100.0 sacks. After consecutive seasons of 14.5 sacks in 2008 and 2009 to give him 72.0 for his career, Allen had just 1.0 midway through the 2010 campaign.

But then Allen went on a complete rampage. And he’s still going. Allen registered at least a .5 sack in 8 of the last 9 games of 2010, and he’s done the same in all 4 games of the 2011 season. His streak of games with at least a .5 sacks is at 6 now, and the franchise record is 8 (held by Jim Marshall and Carl Eller).

Allen began his career in Kansas City, spending 4 seasons there and accumulating 43.0 sacks. Then the Vikings acquired him via trade, and he’s come through in a huge way by tallying 46.5 regular season sacks in 3+ seasons, including 6.5 this season. So in total, Allen has recorded 89.5 career sacks in the regular season. When you add in his postseason sacks, Allen is at 92.5 for his career.

When Allen is recognized for recording his 100th career sack, it’ll be for his 100.0 career regular season sacks. Why they don’t include postseason sacks is a little confusing, but they don’t. That means Allen is officially 10.5 sacks away from 100.0 for his career, but technically he’s 7.5 away from 100.0 (if you include his 3.0 postseason sacks).

If Allen gets his 100th career (regular season) sack in 2011, it’ll be his 17th sack of the season, which would be a career high. But it’s not out of the question that Allen could record his career high in sacks this season, especially when you consider that’s he had 4.5 sacks through the first 4 games of the season just one other time in his career (2009).

Going back to the question…can Allen get his 100th career sack this season? He’s officially 10.5 away, with 12 games to go. Keep in mind the Vikings have 6 home games remaining, he’s on the best early-season pace of his career and he had the best training camp of any Vikings player. Also, I’ll throw in another factor: Allen has 5.5 sacks against Arizona in his career, which the most he has against any non-NFC North team.

What do you think Vikings fans? Will Allen get to 100 this year? I think he will, and I think it’ll come in the final week of the regular season against Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears.

Let us know what you think by leaving your thoughts in the comments section below this entry…

we can all see that the vikings are having another very bad year. That is part of being in the nfl – bad years between good years.

What I want to know is this: Why do the vikings suck so much at life?

Why would LA want this terrible excuse for a football team?

  5. By GM on Oct 5, 2011 | Reply

I think #69 certainly could as long as the lack of offense doesn’t suck the spark out of him.

As long as McNabb and Berrian keep starting, the defense will be on the field most of the game so he will have plenty of opportunity to rack up sacks.

Only 3rd in the Suck for Luck standings??? That’s an outrage! We want number 1!

As long as we keep Donny McWorthless as QB we’ll get that No. 1 Standing! Go Donnie!

    @Vikes Fan Forever,

I just watched the sports channels again for the 1st time in almost a month.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE !

They want you to watch the show. They are not going to talk about Offensive Linemen or even Defensive Linemen.

Why??? Because we enjoy watching the wide receivers, quarterbacks, and running backs.

We enjoy hearing about the ALL POWERFUL COACHES.

Brett Favre said it well in 2009-2010 when he said, “I usually have
a great statistical day when my team wins.”

That is why FOOTBALL is one of the greatest team sports of all time.
    IT TAKES A TEAM ! ! ! lol forever.

McNabb is not the greatest QB in the NFL.

We hope him to be in the top 15. Seriously.

The receivers are not getting open.
The offensive line is not blocking well consistently.
McNabb is not making the good throws when he does have time.

The defensive backs are not covering people consistently
which causes the defensive line to look bad at times.
    :) :) :) :)

Jerad Allen can make the 10.5 sacks by the end of the season. He’s a leader and loud voice to get this team on track. He’s going to make sure he holds his end on this. Good Article Mike W. Goo Vikings.

Jared Allen will get 100 sacks this year. And mcnabb seems to be heavily in favor for it. He’s is doing everything he can to help Jared reach his goal by keeping the offense off the field. It’s really a team effort.

I’m a Vikings fan for life and honestly after falling to KC who lost their best playersdue to injury this season I’m beginning to lose all hope for the remainder of the season. Jared Allen should be able to get 10.5 sacks or more as long as our offense keep going 3 and out like they been doing and I wouldn’t be surprised if he returns a few and get some int’s to.I remember last season how long it took to solve a problem getting rid of childress we waited till tue season was lost I wouldn’t be surprised if we do the same thing with Mcnabb this year and throw Ponder out their after the other players give up on the season leaving him with nobody motivated to play, that’s just how it is being a Vikings fan nothing is predictable other than their play calling.

  27. By Mike on Oct 5, 2011 | Reply

I have a question for Vikings fans. If we do end up with the 1st overall pick would you trade it for more and ride with Ponder, or would you draft Luck???

This will be my monday morning mail bag question so don’t use it.

  28. By Twoodsnvikes on Oct 5, 2011 | Reply

You get Luck hands down no question, Ponder is good and will do well but Luck is going to be an amazing NFL QB, but as I mentioned previously, what the Vikings WILL do is trade it away for more pics so they can pick up about 9 more DE/DT and LB since we don’t need them in very typical fashion

Then it is going to be marketing 101 stuff to keep the fan’s interest….. saw it all year oout of Twins. I HATE seeing this kind of piece so soon.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see pieces like “Vikings D, #1 in the league, 2 shut-outs in 4 games and a Super Bowl hopeful now looking like the favorite.”

OR, Donovan McNabb has his third 400 yd game, tossing 5 TD’s and running for one in their route of the Chiefs – Donovan is on pace to throw 6 TDs this season, and Adrian Peterson is on a record pace of 2,300 ud season.

OR: The ofenisve line has NOT given up a sack in 4 games so far. An impenatrable front, these five studs have stonewalled some of the best defenses in the league….

Nope, instead we are going to have bobbleheads of Toby Gearhart in week 8!

I can’t believe all of the fans on here who are constantly chanting for Andrew Luck… I’ve been a Vikings fan my entire life and I bleed purple. What you people have to understand is that 1 player is not going to fix all the problems we have. Especially a guy who played well in college… as we have seen, that doesn’t always transfer to the NFL. I’m not McNabb’s greatest fan but no quarterback will survive in Minnesota if we can’t give him protection.

I truly believe that AD needs to get the ball more because he consistently rushes for 100 yards when he sees at least 25 touches. I think that Devin is a better option than Berrian because he has better hands and runs better routes, and if we can get AD his touches those big plays will be there and it will in turn open up more holes for him so we’ll see his average yards hopefully increase to 150. The Vikings woes stem from the offense as a whole and aside from some inconsistent play by our DB’s, the defense is dominant. But they struggle when their playing for 20 mins in the second half. No more 3 and outs and AD will carry us to victory each and every week.

Wow! I’ve pretty much don’t know what to say anymore about this team. where would you start? I guess I would say strait out that this coaching staff and its ability to judge true talent is the worst i’ve ever seen. McNabb has absoutely no business being on the football field anymore. He was once a very talented player but that was a few years ago. What should have gone down this year was really? Joe Webb should have started this year, just based on the preseason alone. He is much more agile and nimble, his arm is live and his desire to win, he’s a hungry player flat out. to bad we cant go back in time, cause I bet you there is know way this team would be 0 and 4 had he been playing. I like the kid Ponder he also has some real heart. But like was saying earlier, nobody is home when it comes to recognizing what would be best for the team. To much politics! I mean for real, why on earth would not be putting that Calib King kid on the field? Then you release him HUH?! another hungry hard working player, out the door. It’s really so sad to see a team that has talent, dorsn’t even know it, and doesn’t know what to go when they have it. I grew up in the Mino, my step father god rest his played for the Gophers, and was good friends with Carl Eller. I was at the Hall of Fame induction with my son when Eller went in. I guess what I’m trying to say is that being a Vikings fan has been extremely rough over the past thirty some years. In the eighties we drafted Darren Nelson above Marcus Allen( love Darren was always nice to me and my family, so no disrespect is intended. hadn’t seen him in probly 16 17 years and he still recognized me and asked about my mother, when i ran into him at the Hall of Fame.), dont really know what were thinking then? Then there was the Herchel Walker destruction! wouldn’t really call it a deal, because i was flat out one of the most rediculous moves in the history of the game! I mean seriously historicaly speaking are record as a team has been well, above average. But I could go on and on about were this team has gone wrong. We need fire! We lack passion. We need someone to think right for a change. Who? Wish I could answer that? Maybe Mean Joe Green. But it needs to happen soon! Good luck tomorrow, hope Jared Allen can get his 100th sack, he deserves it, he’s one of the hungry one’s. much love, peace.

He’s already a wild man when he gets a sack! I’m looking forward to him reaching this milestone this year!
