Mr. Hippe’s Weather Report

Posted by Mike Wobschall on October 2, 2011 – 10:53 am

The Vikings play at one of the loudest outdoor venues in the NFL today, and that means we must rely on Mr. Hippe for a weather report.

He’s checked in with a report of 74 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze.

Great weather for football. Almost kickoff!

0-4 if this game continues. 12 games to a Vikings move, and still no new stadium.

  12. By Michael on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

Another LOSS….Wow…What did we pay mcnabb for? We could have gone 0-4 with webb or ponder as the qb…actually we would probably have at least a 1-3 record and an excuse of having a rookie qb…Fire the coaching staff and sit mcnabb on the bench if we are going to have another losing season lets get our rookie ponder in there and give him some experience. VIKINGS SUCK! I cant understand why I have been the fan of this losing team for soooo long….Lose to the Chiefs?….LMAO No wonder MN rather move the team to LA they suck.

  13. By purplerainman on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

McNabb is not the answer. I really hope that Frazier gets the message. The offense has no fire. Our defensive front applies some nice pressure but our secondary needs a high school lesson on cover 2. It’s terrible to watch. I really, REALLY hope they play Ponder for the rest of the season. If you hired any other Quarterback and they lost 4 games straight (3 of which were due to the fact that there was no second half offense) they would be done. PLAY PONDER – give the kid a crack at it. That’s why you drafted him at 13. Take a risk. It might be the start of a dynasty for the future rather than an awful experience in the present.

This year, the Vikings won’t play anywhere well period with McNabb at QB. I have said it before and will continue to say it, we cannot win with him period!

This probably won’t help anybody, but I ran into an old newpaper clipping from 1987. The Giants had won the NFL title in 1986. They started out 0-5 to begin the 87′ season. They were 6-4 the rest of that season.

    10-6 in 1988
    12-4 in 1989
13-3 in 1990 and NFL Champions again.

There is great talent on this Vikings team. What are we missing? Maybe not as much as many of us (including me) seem to think.

I believe that the Vikings will win some games this year. Coaching, Quarterbacking, Receiving, etc. are only part of the problem.

    ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING ! ! ! :) :) :) :)

Vikings, do you really expect that you deserve anything special, like a new stadium? You show us something…anything… and then maybe we can support you in good conscience. In the meantime, it is nothing but a losing season and a lot of embarrassment. I’m not sophisticated enough to analyze whether this is a coaching problem, a quarterback problem or a rest-of-the-team problem. All I know is that a team who sucks big-time but makes ridiculous professonial NFL wages is not a team that deserves ongoing support.

I turned the game off in the third quarter and turned instead to “Golden Girls,” because the “Golden Girls” are less of a disappointment..and I knew today’s game would be just like last week and the weeks before. We don’t want sappy weekly excuses for your losses, we want some wins and less embarrassment. Honestly, the joke is that you guys couldn’t beat the St. Agnes Catholic high school in St. Paul!

Is there something about that that you don’t understand?

Why on earth would anyone (Spielman) think that bringing in a veteran QB that was washed up with 2 teams prior, come in and have any vested interest in how this team does? I, like most Viking’s fans, was very surprised that Ponder was the pick at 13, but excited at the same time for the future of this team when I saw the Rudolph pick follow. PONDER should be at the helm – ready or not – He’s a smart kid – let him learn there is no way the Vikes will when this division or even a wild card spot given the division and their schedule. LAST YEAR: Joe Webb played against the Bears in their prime last year and got spanked – but at least he had the experience.

Also – Our secondary is a joke. Winfield definitely looks his age out there and I have sadly watched Cedric get burned 4 or 5 times that last couple of games and not for small gains (in some cases game changers).

I have a feeling Frazier is going to realize what the problem is while he’s cashing his unemployment check and Fred is running the team. He really needs to make some big moves. I am glad he at least acknowledges that there is a problem now. Frazier you have to sit Donny! If anything just to prove a point. Play Ponder or Webb they can beat the Cards. Now’s he chance. Don’t let another washed up, half a$s QB ruin this team.

This was a players loss. Poor execution at critical times. This wagon is not permenantly broken. Changes need to be made. We need to get the ball down field and McNabb isn’t getting that done. The secondary is still giving that soft middle area which cost us at critical times. Bowe’s touchdown was bad as he should have been tackled twice even though Griffin was beat. The coaches need to look at their players and plays and adjust to the talent they have. You have to have all three p a sses though short medium and long or as you saw the other teams don’t respect your ability to get down field. Tough loss to watch but they were trying to fight back all game.

Why can’t the Vikings ever get any free agents? Why weren’t they in the sweepstakes for Johnathan Joseph or any other corner? The Vikings have some pieces in place to be really good on offence but they need more pieces. Percy is amazing, AP is amazing, and Kyle Rudolph looks like he is going to be really good too. One more good deep threat and a promising young QB and this offence could be dangerous. Thats why they need to groom their young talent and STOP playing that loser McNabb. If Frazier starts McNabb next week he deserves to be fired because it makes absolutely no sense in the grand scheme of things. We have a realistic shot at a top 3 pick next year

Rocksalt, I fear this as well, and I will mourn the end of the Minnesota Vikings, if and when the move dose occurs. I fear a 0-16 season and a move out of the state of Minnesota coming this season for the Vikings. I do not think our coaches are any Bud Grant who can turn a team around. I know some out there hang on to their faith but at one time dose reality come crashing down around them?

  131. By Parody on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

Now is the time for Ponder. McNabb had his chance, and has failed four times in a row. He’s too old for us to expect him to learn anything now, so it’s time to begin rebuilding. For this team, that begins with Ponder.

Berrian also needs to receive his walking papers. I was bewildered when he came up with that 4th-down grab in traffic, but less than befuddled by his play for the rest of the game. The one other catch that he WOULD have had was while he was completely wide open with a soft throw right at him. Even then he didn’t attempt to get an inch after the catch. He just Casually stepped out of bounds. I don’t care if he saw the penalty, he needs to play his heart out until the whistle no matter what.

Then there was the throw to him at the end of the game that bounced off his shoes. He BARELY bent over in an attempt to catch it! Is that the type of player you want sitting in your #1 slot? The game is on the line and the team has every chance of winning! Dive for the ball and try to make something of a poor QB!

Sit Berrian. Bring Jenkins into his place, and work Aromashodu and Camarillo in the other spot. A loss wouldn’t bother me nearly so much if more players showed the heart to convince me that it bothers them!

    Alex-
I agree with you that our O line issues need to be addressed. But I think you should not berate others for pointing out some areas to improve, like QB or WR

@Alex that issue isn’t the trenches Chiefs had 8 players constantly in the box to stop AP. They have no respect that wel can move the ball down field. We need a deep pass presence to keep other teams honest. At issue is our team is based of the performance of AP which on paper or conversation sounds great. It is in fact easy to defend for. You need to use the whole field to open up the game. Why with 3rd and long do you have two running backs in the shotgun with Mc Nabb. The other team is rushing and not we need those to RBs as blockers. Need to open the air game when teams get in tight with you.

    Mike,

We need those two extra rb’s in the backfield because our five offensive lineman can’t block their four pass rushers. You have to be in denial if you’re willing to tell me that our offensive line isn’t the reason this team is struggling so badly. It’s hard to convert third downs in the second half when you have less than three seconds to throw or little to no push for running room. Please Vikings, draft someone who can make Peterson happy.

What do y’all think about our coaching?

  141. By Mike B. on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

We need the 3 and 4 reciever sets instead of that 3 tight end set. We need to be able to attack the whole field at any down. Once other teams think that they will stop lining up 8 or 9 tight. If it’s an OL issue then get it changed. It appeared to me most times Mc Nabb had enough time.

  142. By Parody on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

Alex – I think the OLine has been improving. They’re still collapsing every now and then, but not nearly as much as they were doing last year. Many plays gave McNabb a good 4-seconds to scan the field and get the ball to a receiver. Last year, the QB was getting hit as soon as he secured the ball in his hands. We have some promising youth at the OLine, who can hopefully develop into starters to replace a couple of the weaker links we have currently.

But right now, we don’t have anyone who can help take pressure off the line. Assuming that Ponder is the future, an all-star deep threat wide receiver would be the best thing we can do to make that future successful.

  143. By Rocksalt on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

KC’s D line played much better than our D line. Pressure up front makes the DB’s much less vulnerable. Our Linebackers got pushed around. Our O line did give Mcnabb some time. but did not open holes for AP……..

@Rocksalt I think it’s pretty poor as they are not adjusting to the players not making the plays at critical times. Offense is better today, but where is the adjustment to 8 or 9 in the box. AP couldn’t run anywhere. 5 OL can’t block 8 or 9 guys all the time.

I never said this was the 1960s or 70s.

Check Bud Grant’s wiki…he won a bunch of CFL titles and then his first year with the Vikings they were 3-8-3. Then in 1968 they went 8-6, and made the playoffs.

DRS, you can check other coaches records if you want, but I’ll tell you what you will find…it takes some time to build a winner.

I’ve seen all four games on tv. They appear to be playing hard, and want to win.

Coaches tend to keep a player until they can find someone better to take the guys place.

Fans like us CAN point out what they did wrong, and also what they are doing wrong. And in many cases we will be right. But we do not see the whole picture.

  185. By Carl K on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

@ Webb – I like the idea of drafting WR Alshon Jeffery in the first round. That would allow us to take OT Andrew Datko from Florida State in the 2nd round. Datko is a 4 year starter and a solid run blocker. He has done a great job protecting Ponder’s blind side in the past.

I think the first thing that needs to be addressed next year is finding a # 1 deep recieving threat because teams do not respect our team being able to stretch the defense. Every week their game plan is first and foremost stopping Adrian Pederson. We can always use upgrades to the offensive line but when you have a bunch of defensive players in the box, you cannot block everybody.

How about them Cowboys! Do you think their fans are happy with Tony Romo after todays game? But they have two more wins than we do.

Nova … what really sucks is we are here screaming the same thing as last year, nothing has changed except statistically we got worse defens was 10th last year and in the 20s this year

Nova, a good coach could have seen all that (I agree 100% with you). This coach just keeps saying ‘we have to execute ect. ect.

I think often times it is a mistake to promote a coach(Frazier) from the existing regime(Childress). Instead of a fresh approach coming in to change the direction of the team, you just continue the problems that you had. We should have hired a new coach from outside the existing organization. I believe that the Detroit Lions are an example of that and their new coach has been able to change a long standing losing culture into a team that is now on the rise.

Has anyone considered our WRs suck and our DBs suck but since they go against each other in practice the coaches think they see good things?

During practice Berrian gets covered by a bad DB and looks cant say good but he looks better than #258 in the league …..

Our corners are covering Berrian so they look good ….

Alex Lawson sorry bud I didn’t realize you were such an expert. I just don’t understand football? Yeah our offensive line sucks but if you think thats the only reason the offence is sputtering then YOU don’t understand football. You’re probably a McNabb fan. There were a couple times today when McNabb had all dayand still threw it in the dirt or overthrew a reciever by 10 yards. Ben Roethlisberger only won 2 Superbowls with a less than stellar O-line. Detroit’s O-line is trash and they’re 4-0, why? Oh yeah because they have a QB and a deep threat. Sorry expert but if you’re drafting Olineman over game changing receivers and franchise QB’s then you don’t understand football.

  265. By Cali Packers fan on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

The Lions are the example of what happens when you’re lucky. The cowboys shot themselves in the foot, with romo pulling the trigger. The Packers are the example of how a time can be elite. You team is not there. It will NEVER be there. No matter what changes your team makes, you never match the Packers greatness.

MT Viking & Shawn…. I am looking at this from far away, compared to you guys. One thing that keeps coming up in my mind, and I’ve loved these guys since /68, is this: If the Vikes really suck this year, does that give your elected politicians more ammunition for not having a new Stadium? Please excuse my ignorance of your political situation, I try and forget my own.

  267. By Shawn on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

you always draft best available … whether its OL DB WR or QB

at least smart teams do …

you might reach a little JUST A LITTLE for a QB but thats the only exception

  268. By Mike R. on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

I’m disappointed that the Vikes lost but I made sure I checked the box score to see 1. Vikes didn’t have a decent half time lead (check) 2. They scored a touchdown in the second half finally (check). It is tough that they are 0-4 but I think this game was easier to take than the three games that they literally did nothing as the other team came back for the win. Just a thought from the Keystone state…..

  269. By SaskatchewanVikesFan on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

Recipe for success – New O-Line, PONDER at the controls, new D-Backs and a LEGIT deep threat WR. Add that all up and we win the rest of our games!
Oh, and get the NFL to shorten games to 30 minutes from 60 minutes and we would be 3 and 1 already!

Nova our politicians are the most unproffessional people in at minimum the country … we choose between to corporate puppets and the red puppet will find out what the blue puppet says and then figure out what is 180 degrees differant … they will fight for the exact opposite

it has nothing to do with anything but saying ” our ” party won … they dont care about the people and have 0 integrity

So what do we lose by benching McNabb and Berrian? I mean can we possibly do any worse than we are now? Who knows, maybe we could complete a couple of deep p@sses down the field to open up the running game a bit. I don’t know if anybody’s noticed but very few teams are still trying to survive with just a running game. Maybe there is a reason why the rest of the League has gone P@ss first to open up the run rather than the other way around. Of course our secondary looks bad. They get left out on the field all game since the offense can’t sustain drives because they don’t have a consistant p@ssing game to convert 2nd and 3rd downs. So again I ask what could we possibly lose by benching McNabb and Berrian?

Her’s a suggestion. We have Emmanual Arceneaux on the practice roster. This guy IS a LEGIT deep threat receiver. He played with the B.C. Lions in the CFL and was a killer receiver (beat my Sask. Roughriders on several occasions). I know for a fact he’d be way better than Bernie! Time for a shake-up anyway!

LOL Canadian Vikes Fan…your really going to tell me that an offensive line isn’t important in football? Whatever, you’re not even worth my time. Some fan’s are only interested in the flashy aspect of football, but the truth is championships are won and lost in the trenches.

  288. By Alex Lawson on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

I’m just saying I think the Vikings should look to free agency for a deep threat receiver who has established himself, and draft a top rated offensive lineman because the transition is easier for lineman than it is for receivers.

You guys suck. Simple as that. Can’t wait till we play you in a few weeks. Last time we beat you your coach got fired. What’s next. We’re too much for you. 0-4, goin for 0-5, then 6, 7, 8, and so on. GO PACK GO!!

Alex Lawson I never once said the O-line isn’t important, obviously it is. I’m just saying, imagine if right now with this exact roster except instead of Charlie Davis at LT we had Jake Long, would our record really be different? Maybe we would have 1 win, but the Vikings are really lacking at the skill positions. Obviously I would love to draft a big O-lineman in the next draft but I’m just saying no matter what its not as important as QB or receiver. If our QB was Aaron Rodgers and we had the same garbage O-line we had right now, do you think we’d be 0-4?
