All Systems Go For Peterson; Henderson Expected To Play

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 30, 2011 – 11:53 am

Both LB E.J. Henderson (knee) and RB Adrian Peterson (calf) appeared on the week’s initial injury report, and it sounds like both players will also be appearing at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday to play the Chiefs.

Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier indicated that there are no concerns about Peterson’s status for Sunday. He was kicked in the calf during last week’s game against Detroit but made it through today’s practice with no issues. Henderson has a sore knee that’s been bugging him for a few weeks, but Frazier said it’s expected that he’ll be able to play on Sunday as well.

No word on the other 6 players listed on the Vikings injury report this week. But if anything major develops we’ll be sure to let you know.

@Thai – Peterson has not been the problem in the second half so far this season. Almost everything else has. How can you blame or question a guy who only got 5 touches in the 2nd half last week?

3DONTHERADIO, I think Thai’s point was: will the Vikings LET him get involved in the 2nd half.

I watched an inspiring segment on Yahoo Sports a couple days ago- forgot his name, but the analyst said the Vikes are not out of this in any way- no way. He went on to say he was on the Titans team when they were 1-4 at the start of the season, and they ended the season playing in the AFC championship. It ain’t over. Go Vikings!

    NovaScotiaVike – Just an FYI – 3D is simpler and shorter when you reply. That’s what most of my fellow Twins tailgaters used this past season. Still hoping that the Vikings season turns out much better than the Twins’ did. I’ll probably be on here more often now depending on my schedule so I just thought I’d let you know. 3D out Nova ! :-}

bench mcfatty and send in ponder. He’s had three weeks and still not a leader. His passing is a major issue and that is not an issue with giving him more time….let’s get ponder and webb in there and maybe mcnabb will then see the light that his career is over.

But from what I’ve seen so far, I just don’t believe the QB or the OL is good enough to win games for us and we are not deep enough on defense to shut other NFL teams down late in the game. I hope I’m wrong but the final is gonna be KC 20 MN 17. Drink heavy dudes…its gonna be a long season..

It’s both, but it’s moreso Berrian. He has dropped multiple passès this year. He doesn’t make an attempt at ones that are thrown a little short or long. How can a guy with the3 accuracy of McNabb continue to waste chances on this guy? He needs guys with heart and sticky fingers, or his stats will just get worse. Berrian has neither, so McNabb is playing it safe and looking for the other guys.

I haven’t been able to watch any of the vik’s games so far,so i have been reading the blogs of our game performance’s. Wow were most fan’s way off base. I watched game replay’s today and i had a completely different take on our game’s. First off Mccnabb has had great protection for the most part, The reason he is getting preasured from outside is because he is dropping so far back and not stepping back up in the pocket so that he can set his feet and throw accurately, He is dropping way back and staying there thus the ends are collapsing on him. If he would just step foward three feet when the outside preasure gets close, He woul have another 2 secounds. Most of the time our O line is giving him 4 secounds if he would utilize the pocket that our O line is creating for him. He has got to get his head out of his butt and stop paniking like a rookie. 2ndly our D line has played light’s out for 3 quarters of each game. They have tired a bit in the 4rth Q and that’s because our offence is not susstaining drives. Our secoundary is vastly improved, They have played realy solid except for a few plays. The problem has been our lineBacker’s they have played Horrible against the screen pass and the short passing game over the middle. only 2 problems on offence , the QB play and Recievers half to get more sepperation, That’s it. On deffence it is the Horrible short pass deffence of our LineBacker’s Period.. Prognosiss, It all comes together in KC. Oh and yes the Coaches had better improve the play calling by stretching the field to keep KC’s deffence ohnest and they had better finaly come with 2 game plan’s one for each half. I believe they will. Prediction KC 10 Vike’s 46 and the rest of the season will be fun to watch. We just might win our division after all. This is not a joke of a team as many have suggested, They are learning an entirely new offence and deffencive scheme. We will know come Sunday. All is not lost, It’s just the begining. Purple and gold will crush there Skull’s. Go VIKE’S.

Put berrian on the pats I bet he would get a 1000 yard season, I’m guessing the coaches there know how to develop players.

  52. By Webb on Sep 30, 2011 | Reply

You put any receiver on the pats they would make plays, its just this offense is not aggressive and coaches are holding down players, even harvin is not even effective the coaches and mcnabb are totally out of sync, put harvin on the packers they would drive him every play too bad this coaching has too much compassion for the opponents musgrave sucks.

Webb played pretty well against the Eagles last year. And he is no longer a rookie– I hope Frazier lays down the law and tells McNabb to be humble take some coaching and play better — or if you fall apart in the second half, you are replaced.
Honestly, with all the naysayers, if you look at McNabb the last two games in the first half, he played well. But why throw away the season for one guy? We have two talented young QBs waiting to get in.

  127. By VegasVike on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

Haha! That is a big one.
If Moss takes half the plays off, and the Vikes only play the first half… Does that mean Moss will only play 25% of the time?

  128. By VegasVike on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

Furthermore, in theory… If the offense is on the field 50% of the time that pulls Moss down to 12.5%!! which is seven and a half minutes..?? Is that right? Where is a college scholar when you need him? Eyes only gots my GED…

GREAT CLIPS OF VIKINGS COME BACKS OVER THE YEARS; THE 1969 SEASON PLAYOFFS AGAINST THE LA RAMS AND QB ROMAN GABRIEL. WHOSE SIGN WAS THAT” “TODAY IS THE FALL OF ROMAN’S EMPIRE”! THAT IS A CLASSIC VIKINGS VICTORY STATEMENT. I HAVE RUBBED THAT IN TO MANY RAMS FANS OVER THE YEARS!! I GET AN ADRENALINE RUSH EVERYTIME I WATCH THAT CLIP OF THE ’69 SEASON.
DON’T FORGET THE 1980 SEASON HAIL MARY AGAINST THE BROWNS INTO THE END ZONE BY TOMMY KRAMER, CAUGHT IN A LITERAL CROWD OF BROWNS D-BACKS BY AHMAD RASHAD. I WAS YELLING LIKE A MAD MAN!! JUST LIKE FAVRE’S LAST SECOND BOMB TO LEWIS IN THE END ZONE TO BEAT THE 49′ERS IN THE 2009 SEASON. GO VIKES, STOMP THOSE NINNY CHIEFS!!!

  130. By CALVIKING on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

I SEE A VERY GOOD VIKINGS TEAM THIS SEASON; THEY JUST HAVE TO STOP GIVING THEIR VICTORIES AWAY!! WE SHOULD BE 3-0. WE WERE WINNING, WITH A SIGNIFICANT LEAD, BUT GAVE IT AWAY IN THE 2ND HALF. BUT THE “SILVER LINING” HERE IS THAT WE HAD THEM BEAT, EACH ONE OF THEM.
ALSO, WITH THE PASSING RULES FROM THE LATE 1970S, THAT THE NFL PUT IN PLACE TO FAVOR THE OFFENSES AND THE PASSING GAMES, DEFENSES CANNOT SHUT DOWN OFFENSES LIKE THEY USED TO, WHEN THE VIKES WENT TO THE 4 SUPER BOWLS.
IF OUR PASSING GAME FINALY GELS THIS WEEK, I CAN SEE THE VIKINGS AS A PLAYOFF TEAM, AND JUST MAYBE WIN THE DIVISION, IF THE OPPOSITION TAKES SOME LOSSES. BEARS ARE SLIPPING ALREADY. GO VIKINGS, KILL!!

  131. By CALVIKING on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

AGAINST THE CHIEFS, THE VIKINGS HAVE THE EDGE IN MOST CATEGORIES. THE VIKINGS HAVE PLAYED QUITE SMART SO FAR IN NOT COMMITTING TURNOVERS TO LOSE GAMES. THE FIRST INTERCEPTION AGAINST THE CHARGERS WAS STUPID, TRYING THAT TYPE OF PLAY SO CLOSE TO OUR END ZONE. THAT’S WHY I HARP ON TURNOVERS. CHANGED THE MOMENTUM RIGHT THERE.
THE FRONT FOUR NEEDS TO LAY THE WOOD TO CASSELL, WITH ANOTHER 5 OR 6 SACKS, AND HOPEFULLY A FEW TAKEAWAYS. SPECIAL TEAMS MIGHT GET ANOTHER TD RUNBACK, AND I AM STILL HOPING FOR A COUPLE OF BLOCKED KICKS. A DEFENSIVE SCORE CAN GET US A WIN ALSO; I WILL BE YELLING FOR THE VIKINGS HERE IN THE CALIF. MOUNTAINS!! GO VIKES!!!

It’s been to long since I been able to jump out of my seat and yell with excitement over a great pass or reception. Coach is making a terrible mistake not sitting McNabb and Berrian, is there a rule in the NFL that says a coach has to turn a blind eye to its players and not see what us fans see? makes me wonder! 1 catch at 1.9 million a catch! that’s insane.

  134. By Thai on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

Calviking…. We do have the edge in most categories except the most important one. Coaching. Without good coaching a team can not go anywhere. Look at all the great teams this year. The head coaches ate the reasons they are winning. Sean Peyton, McCarthy, bellicheck, tomlin, Rex Ryan, Reid. Our players names can be in the same conversations as Johnson, foster, ware, freeney, but our coaches aren’t close to being in the same league. I love Frazier but he’s in over his head. I like singletary too and look how that turned out. We need a big name coach and sorry but Frazier ain’t it.

Can someone show this to Vikings organization, why are they not making any move on butter fingers berrian.,

Let’s get Webb in there, he has the speed, streght to fight the defenders and get open,

It’s not about Berrian is working hard or not, it’s he doesn’t have the ability to fight defenders to catch the ball.

I just watched a telling ESPN video on whether McNabb faces his last stand on Sunday— go take a look everyone– just google “news for McNabb” and you will find it. They all agree he still has the skills– just where is his passion, where is his leadership? They are baffled — because I think we all thought McNabb would come out to prove his naysayers wrong.

Shawn, do not be so quick to judge what they see and don’t see. Just because they are not jumping when fans scream jump does not mean they are unaware of what THEY DO FOR A LIVING. They do this full time–chill out. If Moss could magically appear on the field in purple with a contract and right team attitude, well, so be it– but there are a lot of decisions and logistics going on behind the scenes– Coach knows what needs to be done and he is working hard and I trust this organization. Enjoy the game tomorrow– Vikings by 30.

Animal26, I took the liberty to reprint the article that you provided the link to, for those Berrian supporters who couldn’t bring themselves to click on it……………………………Because, hey, when you have one more reception through three games than the overwhelming majority of people who read this blog on a daily basis, it’s clear that you’re not the problem.

“I’ve been doing the same things I’ve always been doing,” Berrian said. “I’ve been getting open. It’s just that we haven’t been able to connect. I’m doing all I can do, really.”

    Dude. . .really?

Michael Jenkins doesn’t seem to have any problems “connecting.” Percy Harvin doesn’t seem to have any problems “connecting.” Hel1, Berrian has one fewer catch this season. . .and 30 fewer receiving yards. . .than Toby Gerhart. In Berrian’s last 17 games (14 last year, 3 this year), he has 29 receptions for 269 yards and no touchdowns, so apparently he can’t “connect” with Donovan McNabb. Or Tarvaris Jackson. Or Joe Webb. Or Brett Favre. Or anybody else, apparently.

Of those 29 receptions and 269 yards, nine of the catches and 89 of the yards came in Minnesota’s comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals last season. So, in the other 16 games. . .basically one full season of football. . .his numbers drop to 20 catches and 180 yards.

Ladies and gentlemen, the “deep threat” for the 2011 Minnesota Vikings.

I’m just tired of hearing the excuses for this guy. He hasn’t gotten decent separation from a defensive back in a couple of seasons, but Leslie Frazier has insisted on keeping the guy around for some reason when he has younger, hungrier receivers as an option on the bench and on the practice squad.

Thankfully, after this year, he’s going to be someone else’s problem. . .if anyone else will sign him

McNabb can get it done… but he needs to stop being so risk-averse and take some shots downfield, and Halleberrian needs to do some soulsearching and ask himself why 2 successive HOF qbs aren’t trusting to make plays. I expect Jared Allen to really show up and show out in this game.

  194. By Titus on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

Mr Smiff, besides Favre, who is the second HOF quarterback? Successive? Do you mean TJack or McNabb?

  195. By AnotherWearyFan on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

I’m still unsure when it comes to Musgrave and his play calling, but let’s face it, he can’t take all the blame when no matter what play he is calling, we just don’t go out and execute. (in the 2nd half at least) but if it is his idea to not give the ball to Adrian, then I don’t understand what page he is on.

  196. By AnotherWearyFan on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

As for being predictable, that is something that he must take the blame for.

  197. By mr smiff on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

I knew someone would ask that :). Thing is Titus, while McNabb was an Eagle, the terms “iconic” and “future HOFer” were constantly being bandied about by the media and sportswriters, who decides who goes to Canton. While his play has struggled since leaving Philly, he still remains the Eagles most successful qb, and can get in on that alone. It’s true that less people now think he’s Canton-worthy, but I’ve seen less deserving former players get in (Troy Aikman), and more deserving former players stay out (Chris Carter, I feel for you, man).

I too have watched Eagles games and have seen his moments of inaccuracy and inablity to hit receivers in stride. Andy Reid did a capital job of masking McNabb’s faults. Now that he no longer has Reid covering for him, he does need to step up and own his faults- all of them. And yes, you are also right about the name. I saw that Allen interview– Allen had been napping — the bed was in disarray, his hair was matted down. Allen was hilarious at the end- he told Wobbie, thanks for sitting with me on my bed.

If we were to play the second half even close to the way we play the first half, we would be considered a superbowl contender…the problem is we don’t have killer instinct..we have fear…and a team that does not have killer instinct is like a shark with no teeth…but winning cures all weakness…we just need our team to realize that they are better than they think they are

Even I won’t touch that straight line.

  222. By NovaScotiaVike on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

Just the opposite with McNabb, we need him to realize that he isn’t as good as he thinks he is.

Berrian could perceive himself as Jerry Rice, but he still wouldn’t get open.

    Bernard Moss. Donovan Favre. Hmm.

OKAY– FINAL PREDICTIONS. Seriously, I say this week is it- we finally see a complete first half , I mean whole game. Vikings 42, Chiefs 21.

  226. By TheRealDon on Oct 1, 2011 | Reply

all jokes aside if vikings can play a whole 60 mins..should be an easy big win..

It’s just so hard to not get a case of the shattered nerves lately if we get a decent lead. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Or for the next Berrian drop…………sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Has anyone noticed a Winfield blitz this year? Why not ? We are 0-3 …

Has anyone noticed a slant pass this year? Why not? We are 0-3 because we cant get a 1st down … instead on 3rd and short McNabb is throwing 40 yard incompletions

Can McNabb throw a slant? We already know Berrian cant catch one …

  230. By Purple Paint Chips on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

I hope they go with things that work, like Everon Griffen in as an extra pass rusher. Hopefully with some twist stunts with Robison and Allen. I saw Kleinsasser and Jenkins holding their blocks while many others turned around when their man got by, and watched the backs get stuffed. tHEY SHOULD coach these guys tio go after anyone if theiir guy gets by. Moss is a veryt bad idea if you want blocks, also Berrian is poor in that department. Percy and Jenkins should be blocking downfield if you want some explosive runs.

since Vegas has a line on everything, I wonder what the odds are that the Vikings do it 4 weeks in a row.

The vikes had better bring the right cleats…..they will be playing on real turf

  233. By Rocksalt on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

realistically, a 6-10 season will be tough

  234. By standerwick on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

What the vikes really need to do is just stay on the field during half time so they don’t lose that fire they have in the first half. They need to do this till the learn how to finish games. Once they learn how to finish games they could be the best team in the NFL.

I think this is the week for the coaching staff to feel that sense of panic building. If McNabb continues to miss on the deep throws (and he is missing as bad as anyone in the league), he needs to take a seat. Cam Newton is making those throws, for crying out loud. If McNabb can’t get his head straight, bench him.

Ponder might not consistantly lead this team to victory, but I’d rather lose with him than with Donovan.

  236. By Woodboat on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

As far as Petersons second half stats go, its not hard to figure out why he isn’t having success. The O-Line wears down and isn’t getting the blocking they were in the first half, and the opposing defense is tired of getting abused by 28 so they load up to stop him. They are daring McNabb to beat them and he can’t.

What did Frazier say this week when asked about the QB status for today??

  238. By sandiamond on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

Why are’nt we rotating in some young players on the OL? They need bullet experience this year!

  239. By Woodboat on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

@ Titus… :) We ARE the team to beat in our division, you are correct sir. Its pretty obvious that teams can look at our squad and think “Yeah, we’ll beat that team…” LoL

We are going to sweep the Packers? Really?

  240. By Woodboat on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

I’m not sure about the Frazier QB status thing. His rhetoric is starting to get old… haven’t watched his presser from this week.

  241. By Woodboat on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

I don’t think you can rotate O-Linemen like you do on the other side of the ball. I believe you have to know exactly what the guy(s) next to you are going to do in certain situations to be able to do your job correctly. Now, if they just want to outright replace a few of the guys that just can’t get it done… coughcoughcoughloadholtcoughcough…. sorry, something in my windpipe there…

thanks woodboat just checking for any chance at Ponder in the game. still on boycott for watching this game and expecting the vikes to take care on business

The state and citizens of minni stabbed the wilfs and the Vikings players in the back.

  251. By truther on Oct 2, 2011 | Reply

I cant watch the predictable play calling anymore, and our recievers cant beat man coverage, Eight defenders in the box = no runing game. Why complain , it will get worse as the players lose hope in this coaching staff. It’s going to get real ugly. Maybe this is the wilfs pay back, Bring in the worst QB in the league and hire the worst group of coaches ever assembled. 0-16 Garuntees Andrew Luck to the Vike’s and then Move franchise to L A. Sounds fair to me after the new stadium deal stab in the back by the citizens and state of minny Pulled on the Wilfs and Vikes players. The Wilfs and Vikes deserve a state that will support them. From 1961 to date the Vikes have brought 100s of Billions of Dollars to the Citizens , Bisinesses and state of the ungrateful Minnesota.
