All Hands On Deck For Battle Against Lions

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 25, 2011 – 6:39 am

The Vikings are at 0-2 after a pair of tale-of-two-halves losses to begin the season and today they have an NFC North matchup against the 2-0 Detroit Lions. On many different levels, this is a big game for the Vikings.

The good news is it looks like the Vikings will have all hands on deck for today’s battle.

The Vikings had 8 players listed on the Friday injury report, but 7 of them were given the “probable” designation and just 1 was “questionable.” CB Chris Cook is listed as questionable with a groin injury, but Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier said he made it through the week just fine and should be good to go for today.

A pair of starting defensive linemen – Jared Allen and Kevin Williams – were on the injury report, with Allen feeling soreness in his shoulder and Williams still dealing with a foot injury. Both players are probable for the game, and Williams was a full participant in practice all week while Allen was limited on Wednesday but was a full participant on Thursday and Friday.

WRs Percy Harvin and Michael Jenkins should both be good to go. Harvin missed Thursday’s practice with an illness but was back at full strength on Friday, while Jenkins is listed with a groin injury but didn’t miss any practice over the week.

The other 3 players listed were LB E.J. Henderson (knee) and CBs Asher Allen (toe) and Marcus Sherels (chest). Allen and Sherels both finished the week as full participants in practice and Henderson, who was limited all week in practice, is expected to play and start today.

the vikings need to win this game, if not then the whole mcnabb thing is over becasue he isnt owed any favors ponder should get to lay he is the future and i think would win alot more games he is the only vikigns qb not to throw a int in the preseason. mcnabb has yet to play good, i was in favor of him coming if he still had it. im not sure he does. with the talent the vikes have the coaches waist it by not playing to their abilities all the great coaches fit a scheme to the players not the other way around use webb as wr! give harvin and jenkins a threat to play with no one is worrried about berrian things need to change we need to win and keep winning if the vikes are to stay in minnesota skoal vikes!

@ Frederick Jones Thats a great idea, the only problem is there has to be someone rushing the qb first

    @ ripteflon………………………….you mean McChoke!

Put in Ponder and lets get it over with already! Sit McChoke……..start lookiung at some of our young players so going into next season we have an idea what else we need in the Draft!

We all need this game fellas. Long season ahead Yes, but, This is the telling factor. Harvin and Mcnaab needs a big game and IF Berrian drops anymore we all need to push for his replacement. same goes with tyrell johnson. Watch the line on offence. see how they stack up against this beefed up team. I hope Hutch has sueeeeeweeeee. I hope he shuts him down. that would be cool. Anyone see the saftey for lsu last night? we should target him in the draft. He is a CB but would be a great saftey. Have fun with the chips and dip fellas. Baaaaaaarrrrrrrrrooooooo!

I have read all the blog posts and have skimmed through a majority of the comments posted and for the life of me I cannot understand why no one is mentioning how Shiancoe is sucking this year. When given the chance to make a play (as with Berrian) he does not come through. Percy hands down is the most talented on the team with Adrian being second. Percy first because he is versatile. Vikings WILL win today, no need to worry about the season. They’ve made mistakes that caused them to not finish what they start but what we see in first halves can be them in ALL 4 quarters- and so we DEFINITLY have a chance at taking the division.

Dude, McNabb isn’t THE problem, but he definately is A problem. He is missing on his deep throws badly, regardless of defensive pressure. He threw a dirtball at a wide open Shank last week that left me speechless. After we lose today, and we are going to, I’d be all for seeing Ponder under center.

Ps. Please stop with the Webb-as-WR stuff. You are doing WRs a discredit to say that Webb could step right in and succeed at their position with no prior experience.

But seriously, don’t you want to keep track of what Brad Childress is up to? I find it a very useful tool to find Youtube videos of him polishing his dome and talking to himself in the mirror.

@Carl K … Your thoughts on the NFL Networks analysis on McNabb are literally insane. Mike Wobs gave us unbiased information which shows his growth as a writer … at least from what Ive learned about writing from Parody and Titus ….

Holding back the truth is something Dictatorships do … kind of like that dictatorship that told us Pat Tillman died saving his squad

  23. By Shawn on Sep 25, 2011 | Reply

most of us have been asking Mike Wobs to give us more truths and less rainbows and unicorns and hes been doing it probably to the best of his employed / fan ability

Chris Cook is playin. Hes our best bet at containing Calvin Johnson. You guys think hes a scrub, I think hes our best cover corner. When hes healthy hes scary good. His first NFL game was against Megatron and he held him to 3 catches. I have my faith in Cook. Lets get this W and move to 1-2. Then we have KC next week. Please, Vikes. Just win. I’ve been miserable these past 2 weeks.

    No more excuses for McNaab!!!!!!!

If Tyrell Johnson was on any other team, he would be benched the entire game-a double whammy, and he is still playing. If it was any other team, he would be benched.Other teams are keeping their players on their toes-Frazier needs to tighten up the reigns.

Don’t sugarcoat this game-it is a must win!

@shawn – I appreciate the unbiased approch to the Thiesman video.
IMO, the video is NOT tastefully done! You can find 2 plays from any Hall of Fame QB and make him look silly. I DON’T LIKE THE VIDEO.
Just because you are unbiased, doesn’t mean you should or need to post all the C R A P that is out there.

I am NOT a big McNabb fan… but I can smell that video all the way from Indiana.

why do the vikings go out and get QBs that are over the hill

  39. By Vikings1 on Sep 25, 2011 | Reply

No more excuses for the Vikings or the coaching staff and the powers that be couldn’t care less about the frustration of us fans, I doubt it very seriously if thay even look at the blogs and not to mention read them. I agree with most of the responses in the blogs, get rid of McNabb and either play Ponder or Webb and get somebody that can play in the secondary!

  40. By Jake on Sep 26, 2011 | Reply

@oldschool I agree completely! An intellegent coach would start testing our young players now and see where they fit and if they dont who can be taken out to make roster space for next years 1st round pick! We may even be surprised by a win or two. But it looks like we have a staff who is in shock and thinks this season is still salvagable. lets hope Mcnugget gets hurt, cuz thats the only way he will see the bench where he belongs.
