Vikings Activate Williams, Waive Awasom

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 20, 2011 – 12:22 pm

The Vikings have made the return of DT Kevin Williams from a two-game suspension official.

He’s been added to the team’s 53-man roster.

To make room for Williams, the Vikings waived DE Adrian Awasom.

The v ikings wave a defense end who has way more potentiat than BB, Allen or Cook. This team does not surprise me anymore. Let’s keep players that cannot play and cut players that can. Go figure.

Mike W: I watched the Williams presser and at the end of the Vid, he was asked a question, about if he felt that if he was playing those 2 first games that he would had been a difference maker, the vid was cut short so I didn’t get to hear his answer, SO!! what was his answer?

Another dumb move by the Front Office. They waive a guy who actually had potential on the team. Idiots I tell you and to also note that Kevin Williams is not 100%. Whatever man, if this experiment fails I hope the whole office gets fired.

@Digger David P has a point Awasom has potential as a player. Cook and Allen have yet to prove they are NFL corners plus they have been on the roster much longer and should have already done so. Fans are unsettled and entitled to their opinions. Think about that before requesting someone to shut up.

  12. By Mike B on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

I haven’t heard if TO is recovered from his injury yet there VA Vike Fan. That said I don’t think the team is looking outside for a WR now. I agree with you they should be doing that right now. Take Care

That sucks. I liked Awasom. He put some heat on the QB’s. He may be back with an injury.

Is Berrian dating the owners daughter?

  15. By Carl Brodin on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

The Vikes should just out right cut Berrian. Get Arceneaux off the practice squad and rotate him with Aroshamado in Berrians spot i think one of those two would produce or at least try this until we find some one in free agency. Berrian has to go. Letting Awasome go is a critical mistake. Another player that needs to go is Tyrell Johnson. This team has to many options in some spots and they dont know how to use who we have. Keep Sanford in the game cut Johnson we cant afford his mistakes.

What do the rest of you think?

  16. By VegasVike on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

10-4 Carl, we need a Moss-Rice type WR. Just not Moss or Rice. Notice there was no Tampa fans creeping on our blogs with taunting? Nice to see some teams have class unlike the chargers and packer fans

  17. By Saddy on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Seriously Vikings, this is the dumbest move ever, I hope Awasom gets signed somewhere and prove these idiots wrong, he was the best in the pre season , brian robison does not even get close to touching any QB…

    Why not BB?

    Hate this organization…

  18. By Nicholas on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

    @ Carl Brodin

I agree with you 100% about BB being cut for Arceneaux and just plain cutting Tyrell Johnson. We had too high of hopes for Johnson.

I’m still crying about our team letting Sidney Rice go as well….yes I’m still stuck on that. For B-Squared to take his roster spot…WTF??

  19. By Nicholas on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

I’m not giving up on this team until its absolutely necessary though…We have a true test next week with Detroit. If we can overcome that….I think we may have a season just yet.

Man i really liked Awasome high upside i think they bring him back some how! . YES we need to get a wide out with some Balz ,skills & savy to beat 1 on1 coverage ,wow 9 in the box and we can’t get open ? hey call philli. about Asnte? lets go and get all aggressive on the rest of their NFL ASSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!

  22. By Derik on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Asher, T Johnson, and Berrian are the ones who deserved to be cut. Not Awasom. Still think we should cut BB and bring up Arceneaux. I think both him and Aroshamado are better. Also, they need to give TJ’s spot to Raymond.

    @ Nicholas,

I totally agree with you, if we can win the next game, then we might well have a shot at doing something this year. I know last Sunday I was bout ready to rage quit for the season, but come on, lets wait a few more games, and if we lose those games, then we can give up for the year.

  27. By The Saz on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

I agree with what everyone is saying. I was extremely disappointed to hear that they waived Awasom, and players like Tyrell Johnson and Bernard Berrian have been lacking in on-field ability at the moment, as have the Vikings as a whole. It’s easy to become frustrated with this and make only semi-informed judgements on the situation. Yes, Awasom appeared to show promise, and yes, Johnson and Berrian haven’t done anything impressive yet on field.

But it is possible that in practices and out of game situations that things were not looking as good with Awasom, and perhaps they have been looking better with Johnsons and Berrian.

From what we as fans can tell, yes, Awasom is far superior to the other two players, but there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

That being said, fan judgement is considerably high on the coaching staff and front office during a time when the vikings can’t win games, which is understandable.

We will be fine. Beat the Lions up at home, gain some confidence. Go on the road, wipe out the Chiefs, and momentum builds. The team discipline will evolve and we will be 5-3 at the Bye.

  36. By Mike B on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

@arizvikefan you are right on there. Also if we don’t have a deep threat passing game. Our opponents shut down the running game and that kills the short passing game. You need the deep ball to keep the secondary back and provide our own soft middle. Take care

Mike B there are NO WR’s on the waiver wire. Comb thru and find out for yourself. Brandon Stokely the last one signed that could help any team

  38. By Mike B on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

@sandiamond Do you know where TO is with the knee injury. I am thinking that he should be ready pretty soon. The other option is to check with Moss’s agent as he might want to retire a Viking. Not my best choice though.

  39. By Mike B on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

I put a caveat on saying Moss I don’t approve of the things he had done. I am only looking at his playing ability. The Vikings are sorely missing that big play receiver without Rice.

  40. By sandiamond on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Someone spotted Moss this weekend and asked him about coming back and he said he no because he is retired from football. I agree TO might help but let’s face it the vikings organization is too conservative for a wr pick-up of this sort. I also think the vikes will wind up benching BB but not cutting him till the off-season.

  41. By NovaScotiaVike on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Berrian couldn’t catch a pass, even for a Klond1ke bar.

  42. By Mike B on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

@sandiamond I will agree with you the Vikings personel and coaches wouldn’t make a move. The Wilfs might. I am sure the coaches feel they have their deep threat reciever, but after the last two games and Berrian’s play last year I doubt it.

  43. By sandiamond on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Mike yea this situation with Berrian is hard to fiqure out. We cut other dead weight and high salaries off the roster but the coaches must have had full confidence BB would have a stellar year? huh lol

  44. By Titus on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Sandiamond, the question to Moss was if he would return to the Patriots because Moss was spotted in Massachusetts. The report said Moss would not elaborate. One could imply he might return to another team. Not elaborate is a term that you have to read between the lines– there is more there than what you see.

On a positive note we now have a secondary that equals the packers. They have been torched two weeks in a row and S nick collins is gone for the year. The panthers have lost 2 starting LB’s for the season. It makes sense why we are keeping LB’s on the PS

  47. By Mike B on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

What I don’t understand they didn’t really get in a bidding situation with Rice. It appears to me is that here’s our offer you can take that or you can go elsewhere. That doesn’t make sense looking at the players we had availible. Everyone on the blog and elsewhere said the Vikings needed to keep Rice to content and look at where we are now. The coach now wants us to have patience. Come On Man.

Sandiamond, you need to read beyond the page. They asked– Are you coming back to the Pats, and Moss said, No, I am done. That was the dialogue. Then when it said, Moss did not elaborate, it means he might play elsewhere. Otherwise, that phrase would not have been in there– the journalist asked Moss if he would return to another team– I can bet you on that.

Sandiamond– I have a lot more expertise in writing than in football. I can guarantee you that after Moss was asked if he was in the area to talk with the Pats and come back– and Moss said No, the journalist continued with questions– it is fundamental to the career of a journalist. I can bet you in follow -up, the next question would be– Do you have plans to join another team, or are you returning to the field or are you never playing again, etc– Moss did not elaborate tells me without doubt that Moss is not through yet.

Titus….they started in Laval (just outside of Montreal) on the 17th.

  233. By Woodboat on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

We don’t need Moss. He would just get frustrated with the lack of production that would ensue, and start causing problems. I don’t think our receivers, other than “Brickhands” Berrian, are the issue. Jenkins can catch and can wiggle free, Harvin does the same. We have 2 good receiving TEs.

What we need is for the O-Line to pick it up several notches, and for McNabb and the receivers to work on their deep routes. Donovan hasn’t even been close to making a downfield ball catchable. If he can’t get the ball to the deep receiver, we are toast. It turns the entire field into the redzone if the DBs realize we can’t beat them deep.

  234. By RunRunPassPunt on Sep 20, 2011 | Reply

Maybe if we taped Berrrian’s paycheck to the football, maybe just maybe he would catch it for a change.

Nap time for Rocksalt and Shawn, just awful.

Titus when you think of bringing up Moss just sound your horn instead.

We can’t pass. Just give it up and go smashmouth with AP and Toby. Have Harvin/Booker in the backfield also. Always have 2 TE’s and 2 RB’s on the field. Why is everyone so scared of D’s cheating the run? If AP gets 3 steps he can take it to the house easier.

AP will convert more 3rd and 6’s then the passing game. It stinks but it is the truth in my opinion.

    I feel it!!!
Come on guys we won with the division with Gus and T Jack when Rice hadnt blown up yet, before farve, before Percy, if we did it then we can do it now. Any given sunday we can win.
We are not going to win every game, we may not win any games but you have to go into every sunday thinking your going to win. Theres no other way. I dont care if its the Patriots or anyone else I truly believe we will win that game.
I hate seeing all the negative fan’s comments. At the end of the day you guys dont matter, I dont matter, not even the players matter cuz eventually they will retire and the vikings will still be there. No one is bigger than the purple and gold

I’m frustraded just like everybody else but take a deep breath and lets see what happens. The Viks with the new coaches, system players and quarterback are taking a litle time to get things all worked out. Now with Kevin back and another week to practise lets see what happens. We played 2 really good teams great for a half so my guess is the talent is there. Let hope for the best but if things continue to go bad lets get Ponder started so next year he will already of had some experiance. Get a nice reciever with the first round and fill in the other position tht are weak with the other rounds. We have gotten younger and the skilled position except wide reciver are in good shape.

I think they should cut Tyrell Johnson. I guess going out and drinking till 200 in the morning is more important than getting a good nights sleep and being sharp at practice. I bet Ap was not out drinking. I mean he is not the starter and maybe with his lack of dedacation this is the reason. Cut him and send a message that if your not doing everything to help the team you will be gone !!!!!

It is really frustrating being a Vikings fan. Am I the only one that things the Vikings constantly whiff on available talent and give scrubs roster spots? BB is useless, Cook was a 4th round corner we reached for, and McNabb throws at people’s feet. AP can’t do it alone. Harvin can throw the ball to himself either. Hire me please.
