Vikings Drop Opener In San Diego 24-17

Posted by Ryan Cardinal on September 11, 2011 – 5:18 pm

The game could not have started off better for the Vikings as Percy Harvin took the opening kickoff back 103 yards to put the Vikings in front.  However, the Vikings offense failed to get going all day long, and the defense wore down during the second half and the Chargers were able to pull out a 24-17 victory.

It’s Week 1 of the regular season but Mr. Hippe – (aka Director of Operations-Team Travel) is in mid-season form of course. He’s checked in with a weather report for today’s opener against the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium.

Mr. Hippe says it’s 72 degrees and sunny with a light west-to-southwest breeze at 5-10 miles per hour.

A perfect day for football.

The early group of Vikings team buses has arrived at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, as the Vikings and Chargers near kickoff of their season-opening contest today at 3:15 p.m. CT. We have clear and sunny skies with warm temperatures and little wind right now, perfect weather for football.

Take A Moment To Pause And Reflect Today

Posted by Mike Wobschall on September 11, 2011 – 10:14 am

Today is one of the most exciting days of the year for football fans. It’s the NFL’s regular season opener. As excited as we are and should continue to be throughout the day, I also think it’s important to take a moment to pause and reflect. Today is the 10-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The Vikings play a mid-afternoon game today in San Diego, so there are a bunch of games that will begin before the Vikings take the field. You’ll likely see a lot of acknowledgment of the 10-year anniversary in other games, and I think every second spent doing this is appropriate.

This day means something different for everybody. We were all impacted by the events of that day and the 10 years following that day, but we were all impacted in our own personal way. Today is a good day to reflect on that, and to be thankful for those who protect our country, our cities and our communities.
